Test Residence

It was into the evening of the afternoon as Lila Test hummed to herself as she drove into her driveway, the mother of three children and wife to Hugh Test, she expressed a bit of a chipper attitude as she parked her car in the driveway. She and Hugh had greeted the new neighbors not too long ago after the kids left for school, and it was agreed they would treat the O'donnells to the neighborhood.

Knowing her husband, he was probably making meatloaf again; Lila really wished her husband would try other meal recipes, it was getting too repetitive eating meatloaf every other day. Why, just last night, he made meatloaf burgers…or maybe that was the one time he actually made something other than meatloaf?

"Oh who am I kidding?" Lila told herself as she exited her car and took with her her briefcase from out of her vehicle to carry with her into her home, "My taste buds have probably been so drenched in meatloaf, everything is starting to taste like meatloaf." she remarked in some humor. She'd probably have to ask her daughters if they could check her tongue out or something.

Entering her home through the front door, Lila sniffed once, and smelled something off, "Is that-" she began to ask, before Hugh peered from out of the kitchen.

"Hey honey!" He greeted as he walked over to give her a smooch on the cheek, to which she returned back, "I'm making tacos tonight to impress the new neighbors!" he said proudly while thumbing at himself.

Lila offered her husband a polite small smile however, "That's great honey!" she remarked, before a frown found its way on her face, "But then why do I smell meatloaf?" she asked him, prompting Hugh to rush back into the kitchen to see where he went wrong.

"Oh crap, I used the wrong seasoning!" Hugh's voice rang out from the kitchen, earning an amused eye roll from Lila.

Behind her, the door was opened by her Son Johnny, making her turn around with a concerned look, "You're home early." she noted.

Johnny simply smiled up at her while Dukey walked in after him, "Yeah, about that! You never guess what happened at school!" he answered her with a follow up question of his own.

With a raised eyebrow, Lila questioned her son with an uncertain tone, "Do I even want to know?" she asked him, right before Johnny handed her a note.

"It's all in here!" Johnny explained as Lila took the note and waited for her son to finish talking, "Some mole rat king breached the surface of the playground, so I used my super farts to blow them back into the ground! Soo…now my school is being cordoned off by the government!" he finished explaining with a broad grin.

"Why am I not even surprised?" Lila asked herself with a deadpan look on her face as Johnny ran up to her room with his dog Dukey.

""I'll be up in my room mom!" Johnny's voice trailed off as he and Dukey entered his room and slammed it shut.

Lila sighed as she palmed her hip and used her other hand to massage the bridge of her nose, "I really should get a private tutor for that boy! The number of times he skips school!"

Meanwhile, at Dexter's home

Kath hummed to herself as she worked away in the kitchen, a delighted smile on her face as she pulled out the Lasagna she cooked for the nice Test family next door; while they insisted the husband Hugh was willing to treat them with his cooking, she highly doubted he could beat her cooking. Lifting the pan of lasagna up to settle atop the stove, Kath took a quick whiff of the smell from the lasagna and smiled to herself and gave herself an a-ok sign.

"Perfect!" she told herself, before walking away from the stove to begin cleaning some dishes. It wasn't long before she heard the door of her home open up, followed by the sound of her husband Jeff's voice speaking through the home, "Is that Lasagna I smell!?" Her husband asked with excitement in her voice, making her proud of her cooking.

"It is honey!" Kath responded as she continued finishing up cleaning the rest of her dishes, her yellow rubber gloves an ever present sight on her hands of being a germ-a-phobe. At least her son had a better reason for his way of wearing his purple gloves, the dear smart son of hers worked with what was probably caustic stuff with those experiments of his in his lab.

Her son's lab…

Oh don't even get her started when she found out how massive that former secret lab was; She still can't comprehend how that son of hers managed to have that entire place hidden inside a wall.

Course from what her Husband was glad for, was the government back paying them for all the experiments their son sold off to them to pay for the massive electricity bill the boy's lab incurred.

Then her son left muttering about finding endless energy so he didn't have to pay such an amount of electricity bills.

Shrugging at the memory, Kath was greeted to the voice of her Daughter Dee Dee as she marched herself into home, "Hey mom, when's dinner!? Dee Dee asked, before she entered the kitchen.

Her eldest child Dee Dee walked in with a chipper tune of a hum as she trotted along inside the kitchen the teen's puberty years on the young girl gave her some definite height to almost reach her mother's height, another year or so she might be as tall as her mom. "Oh dinner will be soon, dear, we'll be having dinner with the neighbors next door, and I decided to bring my own over as well just in case!" she answered her daughter.

"Oooh!" Dee Dee said as she sniffed the air and looked over to the lasagna sitting on the stove, "That smell delicious!" she commented, while earning a smile from her mother.

"Oh why thank you!" Kath responded back to her daughter as she turned around after finishing the dishes to speak directly with her daughter, "Where's Dexter?" she asked, certain that her daughter was able to drive him to school, as well as be picked up by his sister as well until he could get his own license and car.

Before Dee Dee could say anything else, Dexter slammed his way into the house, "Dee Dee, don't even try to dodge me! You ran two stop lights!" Dexter's voice rang out, earning a giggle from Dee Dee.

With an amused smile, Dee Dee stood on her tip toe while lifting her other leg like her many ballerina lessons, and cupped her mouth, "They were yellow before they turned red when I went under them Dexter!~" she giggled back, while Dexter could be heard grumbling as he stalked up to his room, before slamming his door shut.

Kath rolled her eyes at her children's behavior, and shooed her Daughter, "Now be off with you, I need to wrap the lasagna up, and have it ready to be taken over for the Dinner with the Test family!"

"Oh, nice!" Dee Dee replied as she left the Kitchen for her mother to get things ready.

Later

Hugh was a bit worried but not too much, perhaps the neighbors wouldn't mind meatloaf tasting meat in their taco shells; afterall, he already chopped the lettuce, grated the cheese, cut the tomatoes up for the tacos, with a side of sour cream and refried beans.

The doorbell dings, prompting Hugh to exit the kitchen while brushing his hands against each other, "I'll get it!" He hollered, while he approached the front door and opened it. There stood on the other side was the family of four, which he greeted with a smile while he heard his wife exit out from her small office room she set up for a home at work sort of thing. "Hey there!" he greeted.

The husband and father of the family smiled back as he reached out to shake hands with Hugh, "nice to meetcha again, Hugh, sorry I had to leave in a rush, my work at the branch of this city demanded my presence for a meeting within an hour at the time!" he reasoned.

While the adults had met formally, and exchanged names, it was agreed they'd talk more later after work hours.

Hugh smiled back as he shook hands with Jeff, "Oh it's alright, my wife is the same thing at times!" he laughed and commented while his wife walked up beside him.

The mother and wife of the family frowned a bit, as she sniffed the air somewhat, "Is that,...meatloaf…." she asked while holding a pan of something.

Hugh nervously laughed while rubbing the back of his neck, "Yeah…about that…" he nervously answered, before the mother Kath cheered up and smiled as she held up her own dish.

"Perfect! I cooked some Lasagna. It might not go great with meatloaf, but it's worth accompanying a dish!" Kath remarked, while Hugh swallowed down his nervousness.

From the sides of the doorway, his daughter peered out from the frame, somehow bypassing his hearing of them ever descending the stairs, "Hey Dexter!" They greeted in unison.

Dexter in response greeted the sisters with a small smile, while correcting his eyeglasses over his eyes, "Hm yes, last we talked, you said you'd show me your own lab, I am very curious how massive it is." he remarked, while earning an eye roll from his mother.

Both sisters looked puzzled, "Massive?" both Mary and Susan asked.

Dexter lifted a brow at that, "mh, yes, I mean, don't you use a quantum computation hammer space irregularity, to serve as the means to add additions to your lab for each experiment you finish?" he inquired.

Dee Dee stood forward and gestured with her arms, "You should have seen Dexter's old lab! It was gigantic! As far as the eye could see!"

With a deadpan look on his face however, he grimaced, "Yet, half of it had been destroyed in the process, requiring me to repair it each time you destroyed something in it!" he grouched.

The Test Sisters however smiled at Dexter, "Oh, we know how you feel." Susan spoke, and allowed her sister Mary to speak next, "Johnny always comes into our own lab and sometimes causes a mess in ours!"

Hugh clasped his hands, letting the conversation be steered towards letting the family in, "Well let's get you folks situated in! I'm there's lots more to talk about than simply letting you all just stand outside!"

Jeff smiled back at the other man as he stepped in first, followed by his family, "Say, do you watch much sports?" he asked as he entered the home.

Hugh kindly smiled back, "A bit of hockey and other ice rink related sports." he responded, earning an appreciated look from the other man.

"Oh good! I was hoping to have another neighbor with a love for sports!" Jeff responded while the two men entered the living room while the two wives entered the kitchen as Lila led Kath to where she could place her lasagna.

"...oh my…" Kath remarked as she saw that there was no meatloaf, and was in fact meat that smelled like it and was meant for taco fillings, going by the array of Taco stuff on the island counter.

Lila apologetically smiled towards the other woman, "Yeah…Hugh likes his…meatloaf a bit too much…"

Kath however smiled as she moved over to the island counter to place her lasagna down, "Well then it's a good thing I cooked this ahead of time!"
