Harry Potter and the Champions Closer Ties

In fourth year, when Ron PROVES to be a disloyal fair weather friend who doesn't deserve Harry's friendship by not standing by Harry 1000% after Harry's name comes out of the Goblet of Fire, a more mature Harry has enough maturity to have the backbone to NOT forgive the traitor or accept him back. Harry then builds stonger friendships as well as closer ties with the other champions

11. Dobby's Delivery

On Christmas morning, Harry was awoken by a familiar non-human male voice.

"Merry Christmas, Harry Potter sir," said the voice.

Harry rose and saw Dobby now sitting in his bed holding a small, wrapped present.

The wrapping paper was a plain red and there was a green bow on it.

Harry opened the package to find two mismatched socks. One sock was bright red with patterns of broomsticks and the other was bright green with patterns of golden snitches.

"Thanks, Dobby," said Harry politely.

"Harry Potter, sir, can Dobby talk to you for a minute and a nanosecond?" asked Dobby.

"Yes," agreed Harry.

"Dobby has heard it through the grapevine that the champions are taking a stand against the contents of the Second Task as currently constructed. Dobby understands that the champions object to hostages being used," explained Dobby.

"We plan to tell the organizers of the tournament that we are willing to pay the price of losing our magic in order to resign as Triwizard Champions if the contents of the Second Task are not changed. We still have a few months to decide if we are actually willing to pay that price, if it comes to it," Harry informed Dobby.

"Dobby has been doing some research," piped up Dobby, "Would Harry Potter like Dobby to go wake up the other champions?"

"No," replied Harry calmly, "Let them get up normally. I will share whatever information you provide me with later today."

"Very well then," continued Dobby, "Dobby has been researching the ancient history of the Triwizard Tournament. Dobby has discovered that the champions magical contracts, while normally magically and legally binding, are automatically magically terminated if any one of the judges or organizers of the tournament breaks or violates any wizarding law through the course of conducting the tournament."

"Does that mean?" inquired Harry, "That if any of the judges or organizers break wizarding law through the course of conducting the tournament, then the champions can in fact resign as Triwizard Champions without losing their magic?"

"Yes, Harry Potter," declared Dobby.

"Kidnapping is against wizarding law," realized Harry, "Therefore, if hostages are taken for the Second Task, the organizers will in fact have broken wizarding law."

"And it is also an ancient law governing all Triwizard Tournaments that no exceptions to wizarding law can be made for the purposes of executing the tournament," revealed Dobby.

"I, Cedric, Viktor, and Fleur will inform the organizers that we know that our magical contracts will be automatically magically terminated if they take hostages and that we will resign from the tournament if the hostages plan for the Second Task proceeds," said Harry clearly,

"Dobby also suggests that the champions make it clear to the organizers that they will face litigation if they take hostages. If the hostage plan is carried out, the hostages themselves and their families should sue the organizers of the tournament for kidnapping and if minors are involved, child endangerment as well," piped up Dobby fiercely, "These lawsuits should actually happen if hostage taking really occurs."

"We've got the organizers good and cornered now," said Harry in a satisfied voice, "Either the contents of the Second Task will be changed, or this tournament is over, and the organizers can enjoy their days in court. The changing of the Second Task is the ONLY way that the Triwizard Tournament will continue now."

"Dobby needs to return to Hogwarts. Dobby is needed in the kitchens to help prepare Christmas dinner. Harry Potter is welcome to call Dobby at any nanosecond."

And with a crack, Dobby was gone.

Harry grinned to himself. The news he would be sharing with Cedric, Viktor, and Fleur when everyone was out of bed was the best Christmas present, they would receive.
