The Battle Chateau
The next morning at the Camphrier Town Pokemon Center; Lincoln and his friends got out of bed and went to the cafeteria for breakfast.
"Yesterday was pretty interesting." said Trevor.
"Glad we were able to help out with the Snorlax." said Serena.
"And I'm glad my Riolu evolved." said Lincoln.
"Maybe he'll be a big help in your next gym battle." said Tierno.
"We'll see." said Lincoln.
After the group finished eating, they get their Pokemon back from the nurse, grab their things, and start heading out of Camphrier Town.
They soon cross the, formerly Snorlax-blocked, bridge, and soon arrive on Route 7.
"What kind of Pokemon do you think are around here?" asked Trevor. He got his answer when the group sees a firefly-like Pokemon with a purple head that had a thick red collar around it, along with yellow and black-striped antenna, as well as a purple and yellow-striped body.
"What Pokemon is that?" asked Shauna. Lincoln takes out his pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Volbeat, the Firefly Pokemon. It communicates with others by lighting up its rear at night. It loves Illumise's sweet aroma." said Lincoln's pokedex.
"I'm gonna catch this for my collection." said Lincoln.
"Go for it!" said Tierno as he does some dance moves.
"Okay, Dunsparce; use Rollout!" said Lincoln, making his Dunsparce tuck himself into a ball and rolls into the Volbeat; doing super effective damage; the Volbeat responds by releasing a bright light from the bulb on its rear, blinding everyone.
"My eyes!" said Serena. Shauna stumbles around before she bumps into Lincoln, making both of them fall to the ground; Dunsparce tries rolling at Volbeat again, only to miss due to his vision being affected by Volbeat's bright light.
"It's hard to see right now." said Trevor. The Volbeat flies at Dunsparce and rams him.
"Dunsparce, try using Rage!" said Lincoln. Dunsparce becomes very angry, and lunges at the Volbeat, managing to land a hit, knocking it to the ground.
"Catch it, Lincoln!" said Trevor. Lincoln nods before he takes an empty pokeball out of his pocket and throws it at the Volbeat, managing to hit it, even with him being unable to see very well, thanks to Volbeat's light, hitting it, and sucking it in; the pokeball wiggles a few times before clicking.
"Yes! I caught Volbeat!" said Lincoln. Soon, everyone's eyesight cleared up, and Lincoln blushes when he sees Shauna on top of him; Shauna blushes when she notices this also.
"S-Sorry!" said Shauna as she quickly gets off Lincoln.
"Don't worry, I know you didn't mean to." Lincoln replied as he blushes some more, making Serena, Tierno, and Trevor laugh.
"What now?" asked Tierno.
"Maybe I can stick around here for a bit and train up my Pokemon." said Lincoln.
"I think I will also." said Tierno. The group suddenly hears rustling coming from some flowers; they look to see a light blue, ducklike Pokemon sticking its head up from the flowers.
"What's that?" asked Shauna as she takes out her pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Ducklett, the Water Bird Pokemon. When attacked, it uses its feathers to splash water, escaping under cover of the spray." said Shauna's pokedex. Shauna puts her pokedex away and pulls out a pokeball.
"I'm catching this one; Plusle, go!" said Shauna, throwing her Plusle's pokeball, and releasing her. "Plusle, Quick Attack!" Plusle charges at Ducklett with incredible speed and rams it, knocking it back. The Ducklett forms a ball of blue water between its wings and it launches it at Plusle, hitting her; she begins stumbling around.
"I think that was Water Pulse; now Plusle's confused." said Trevor.
"Plusle, try using Nuzzle!" said Shauna. Plusle fights through her confusion and begins rubbing her cheeks until static electricity comes out of them; she runs at Ducklett and rubs her cheeks against it, dealing massive damage, and knocking Ducklett to the ground where it begins twitching.
"Ducklett is paralyzed; I think now's the time to capture it." said Trevor. Shauna takes out an empty pokeball and throws it at Ducklett, hitting it, and sucking it in; it wiggled a few times until it clicked. "I caught Ducklett!"
"Way to go, Shauna." said Lincoln. Ducklett's pokeball vanishes and gets transported to storage due to Shauna already having six Pokemon. Shauna takes out her pokedex to look up her new Ducklett.
"This says Ducklett's a girl, she knows Water Gun, Water Sport, Defog, Wing Attack, and Water Pulse; she has the Big Pecks ability which prevents her defense from being lowered." said Shauna. She tosses Ducklett's pokeball and releases her; Shauna takes out a Potion and a Paralyze Heal and uses them on Ducklett, healing her wound, and curing her paralysis.
The group spent most of the day, training their Pokemon.
Lincoln's Bagon got stronger, his Braixen learned Fire Spin, his Panpour learned Bite, his Dunsparce learned Ancient Power, his Lucario learned Power-Up Punch and Swords Dance, and his Flabebe got stronger; Flabebe suddenly began to glow.
"Flabebe's evolving." said Lincoln. His friends gathered around him and watched as Flabebe began to grow; when she stopped glowing, she was now twice her height, a long, green, leaflike extension over each of her eyes, a yellow ring around each of her ears, a spade on the end of her tail, and she was carrying her flower by its stem. Lincoln takes out her pokedex and points it at his newly-evolved Flabebe.
"Floette, the Fairy Pokemon and the evolved form of Flabebe. It flutters around fields of flowers and cares for flowers that are starting to wilt. It draws out the hidden power of flowers to battle." said Lincoln's pokedex.
"Congratulations, Lincoln." said Serena. The group soon returned their Pokemon to their pokeballs and they continued walking down Route 7. As they did, they see what appeared to be a large mansion.
"What's that place?" asked Lincoln.
"That's the Battle Chateau, Lincoln." Serena answered.
"I saw that on my way to Lumiose City sometime after I washed up here in Kalos." replied Lincoln. "What's it like?"
"The Battle Chateau is where trainers can go to battle each other and earn rankings." said Serena.
"Rankings?" asked Lincoln.
"There are several rankings; for males, the first ranking is Baron, then if you win enough battles, you rise up to Viscount, then Earl, then Marquis, then Duke, and finally, Grand Duke." said Serena.
"What about females?" asked Shauna.
"Females start with the Baroness ranking, then Viscountess, then Countess, then Marchioness, then Duchess, then the highest ranking, Grand Duchess." replied Serena.
"Let's check it out." said Lincoln.
The group walks over to the building and head inside; once they do, they are approached by an eldery gentleman.
"Greetings, children." said the gentleman. "I am Turner; a Duke here at the Battle Chateau."
"Hello, sir." said Lincoln. "My name is Lincoln Loud."
"I'm Shauna." said Shauna.
"I'm Serena." said Serena.
"I'm Tierno." said Tierno.
"And I'm Trevor." said Trevor.
"What brings you children here?" asked Turner.
"I just heard about this place and I came to see it for myself." said Lincoln.
"Are any of you Pokemon trainers?" asked Turner.
"We all are." said Tierno.
"Would some of you would like to partake in some battling?" asked Trevor.
"I wouldn't mind." said Lincoln. "It'll give me a chance to give my Pokemon a warm-up before my gym battle at the Cyllage Gym."
"Very well." said Trevor. "Because you are new to the Battle Chateau, you do not have a rank yet; but we will find a challenger for you to battle in order to earn the rank of Baron."
"Awesome!" said Lincoln. As the group head outside through the garden of the Battle Chateau, a man with dark skin, black hair with red, blue, and yellow stones in it, wearing a black, long-sleeved shirt, grey pants, and black shoes, was hanging from a nearby balcony, observing them.
The group enters a small room where lots of other trainers were standing around, talking to each other.
"Welcome to the Battle Chateau, everyone." said Turner. "For those of you who do not have a rank here, we will have each of you face off against one another in a Pokemon battle in order to earn one."
Turner then goes on to assign each rankless trainer there an opponent; Lincoln was given a boy with well-kept brown hair, wearing a red blazer over a white dress shirt and black necktie, black dress pants, and matching dress shoes; Lincoln goes over to introduce himself.
"Hi, I'm Lincoln Loud." said Lincoln.
"Don't socialize with me, commoner." said the boy.
"Hey, he was just introducing himself." said Shauna.
"Yeah; no need to be such a snob." said Serena.
"I am Jonathan Nathan Remington the Third." said the boy now identified as a boy with an unnecessarily long introduction. "I will fraternize with someone in a lower class of society."
"Well, if you want the title of Baron, then you have no choice but to at least battle me." said Lincoln.
"I suppose that is true." said Jonathan. "We will meet on the field of battle." He then turns and exits the room.
"What a jerk." said Shauna.
"I hope you teach him some manners." said Trevor.
"We'll see." said Lincoln.
Everyone goes out to the battle area where several trainers battle each other; the winners were given white capes, indicating their new Baron Ranks.
Soon, Lincoln and Jonathan were preparing for their battle.
"You ready, Jonathan?" asked Lincoln, pulling out a pokeball.
"I suppose." replied Jonathan in an uninterested tone while pulling out a pokeball. "Absol, do come out." Jonathan tosses a pokeball and releases a quadrupedal Pokemon with white fur covering almost its entire body except for its face which is dark blue, a scythe-shaped horn on the side of its head, and a scythe-shaped tail. Tierno points his pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Absol, the Disaster Pokemon. It senses coming disasters and appears before people only to warn them of impending danger." said Tierno's pokedex.
"Go, Bagon!" said Lincoln, throwing Bagon's pokeball and releasing him.
"Absol, do use Quick Attack." said Jonathan. Absol charges at Bagon with incredible speed and rams him, knocking him back.
"Bagon, Focus Energy!" said Lincoln. Light blue energy surrounds Bagon.
"Absol, do use Pursuit." said Jonathan. Absol charges at Bagon and rams him, knocking him back.
"Bagon, use Headbutt!" said Lincoln. Bagon charges at Absol and rams his head into it, landing a critical hit, and making Absol flinch. "Now use Rage!" Bagon charges at Absol and rams into it, knocking it to the ground with swirly eyes.
"Lincoln won." said Shauna.
"In your face, Jonathan!" said Tierno. Jonathan sneers and returns Absol to its pokeball.
"It seems you have bested me, commoner." said Jonathan before he hands Lincoln a large wad of pokedollars.
"Whoa." Lincoln said as he eyes the money he was given. "That's a lot of money."
"Of course that would be a lot of money to a commoner." said Jonathan. "But that's just half my weekly allowance."
"Congratulations on your victory, Lincoln." said Turner. He then gives Lincoln his white cape, indicating his new Baron rank.
"Thank you, sir." said Lincoln.
Later, Lincoln and his friends were walking around, looking at the buildings decor when someone calls out to them.
"Hello, everyone." a familiar voice calls out, making everyone look to see Viola walking over to them.
"Hey, Viola!" said LIncoln.
"How have you been?" Viola asked the group.
"Lincoln just got his first rank here." said Shauna.
"That's great." said Viola. "I have the Duchess Rank here myself."
"Really?" asked Shauna.
"Yes." Viola replied. "I'm here to challenge Grant in order to help me work my way up to Grand Duchess."
"Who's Grant?" asked Tierno.
"He's the Cyllage City gym leader." said Viola, surprising everyone.
"The Cyllage gym leader is here?" asked Lincoln.
"He's around here somewhere." said Viola.
"Can we watch you battle him?" asked Lincoln. "It would give me a chance to learn about what kind of Pokemon he uses."
"Sure." said Viola. Everyone heads out to the battle area where lots of people were already gathered.
"Attention everyone." Turner says to those who were there. "We will be having another battle between Duchess Viola and Duke Grant."
"Good luck, Viola." said Serena.
"Thank you." said Viola as she puts on a red cape and steps out onto the battlefield.
"Now where is Duke Grant?" asked Turner.
"Up here." a voice calls out from above and behind Lincoln and his friends; they turn and look up to see the man who was watching them earlier, hanging from a balcony.
"What are you doing up there, Duke Grant?" asked Turner.
"Just 'hanging around'." said the man, now revealed to be Grant.
'And I thought Luan had bad puns.' said Lincoln as he looks down with sadness at thoughts of his comedian sister.
"Would you please come down to the battle area?" asked Turner. "It is time for your battle."
"Sure." said Grant. He then lets go and lands on the ground in front of Lincoln and his friends; Grant puts on his red cape, and heads out onto the battle area.
"I hope you're ready, Grant." said Viola with a smile.
"I always am up for a challenge." said Grant.
"Then let us begin." said Turner. "And whoever wins this battle will rise to the next rank." Viola and Grant each take a pokeball off their waists; Viola tosses hers, releasing her Surskit, while Grant tosses his, releasing a Pokemon that looks like a snake with a segmented body made of rocks, and a protrusion coming out the back of its head.
"What's that?" asked Lincoln as he points his pokedex at Grant's Pokemon.
"Onix, the Rock Snake Pokemon. Burrows at high speed in search of food. The tunnels it leaves are used as homes by Diglett." said Lincoln's pokedex.
"Grant must use rock type Pokemon." said Lincoln as he makes a note of it for his upcoming gym battle.
"Surskit, use Bubble!" said Viola. Surskit releases bubbles from its body and they hit Onix, dealing super effective damage.
"Onix, use Smack Down!" said Grant. Onix opens its mouth and a golden ball of energy forms in front of it; Onix launches the ball at Surskit, hitting it, and dealing super effective damage; Surskit struggles to remain standing.
"Surskit, use Ice Beam!" said Viola. Surskit releases multiple light blue beams of energy at Onix and they hit it, dealing super effective damage.
"Onix, use Rock Tomb!" said Grant. Onix jumps up above Surskit and multiple rocks appeared around Onix; they fall onto Surskit, dealing super effective damage, and knocking it out.
"Whoa; Grant's a strong trainer." said Lincoln. Viola returns Surskit to its pokeball.
"You did all you could, Surskit." said Viola. She walks over to Grant who was patting his Onix's head. "That was a good battle, Grant."
"Thanks, Viola." replied Grant. Moments later, a maid was putting a purple cape around Grant's shoulders.
"Congratulations on becoming Grand Duke, Grant." said the maid.
"Thanks." replied Grant. Later, as Grant was leaving the Battle Chateau, Lincoln and his friends run over to him.
"Hey, Grant." said Lincoln.
"Hello." replied Grant.
"My name is Lincoln Loud; I hope to have a gym battle with you soon." said Lincoln.
"I'm looking forward to it." said Grant. "I hope you train real hard until that day comes."
"I will." replied Lincoln. They watched as Grant leaves the Battle Chateau. "I'll be sure to be ready for him."
Lincoln and his friends have experienced the Battle Chateau and met the Cyllage City Gym Leader, Grant, as well as witness him rise to Grand Duke. What else will Lincoln and his friends experience as their journey continues?
