The following Monday, after meeting Kevin's fiance and line dancing, they also celebrated a very fun and spontaneous Valentine's Day weekend, Laura was getting ready to leave her intern job as Steve was going to meet up with her at the OBGYN doctor office for their first ultrasound and prenatal appointment. The older ladies in the office teased her as over the months had built up Steve's status in that office on how great of a husband her was. Even none of them had met Steve yet, he was pretty popular at her work as the older ladies wished their husbands would treat them like Steve worshipped Laura. She was not bragging nothing like because she would even tell them all his silly qualities to them too. "Tell Mr. Loverboy we all said hi!" One paralegal, Gladys, said to Laura, only making her roll her eyes but with a smile.
Once she made it to her doctors office Steve was already there pacing back and forth outside the building. Laura got out of her car and walked up to him, once he notcied her, he stopped and smiled. Steve then came to her side, gave her a quick kiss on the lips, and put an arm around her waist. "We a little nevous right now?" Laura asked giving Steve a smile back.
"Maybe a little, but I'm all better now that you're here." Steve gave her a wink as he opened the door for her. Laura loved how just sometimes he always said the right things, well most of the time.
"Good, because I'm a nervous wreck..." Laura announced but Steve stopped her and stood in front of her. "What are you doing?" She asked looking at Steve with confusion.
He stepped closer and just hugged her. "Better?" He asked as he slowly pulled away. Steve saw her smile and nodded.
"Much, you are really something else Steven Q. Urkel." Laura told him as Steve was right by her side again, but now she held herself closer to him.
"Well I married the girl of my dreams, now carrying our child, so I have to make sure she deserves the best husband possible. Not perfect and sometimes does not have best moments but he tries to be." Steve was really on his game today or Laura was being more emotional today then usual because that statement alone got him a big kiss on the lips.
To people they would have thought they were a young newly wed couple just how they acted most of the time. Not two people that have known each other since they were six, who slowly gained a friendship, which changed into best friends, that formed into a romantic relationship, and finally to this. A couple who had been married for three years and expecting their first child together. Well thats the looks they were geting anyways in the waiting room. Some of the looks were an "eww" look to an "aww" look all because the affection they showed to one another.
The couple made it up the the reception desk and Laura checked herself in. Once paperwork was filled out, shortly after Laura was called back as Steve followed. The nurse led them to the ultrasound room. Steve sat in a chair as Laura went to change into a hospital gown.
Laura walked out of the restroom, Steve went to her and helped her onto the exam table. Laura sat and Steve strod next to her. "So Sweetums, are you ready to see are itty bitty Bambino?" Steve asked feeling the nerves hit him again.
"I think so, just going to be odd seeing there is an actually baby growing inside me. I know I'm pregnant but I don't think reality has sunk in yet." Laura confessed as they both gave each other anxious smile as they held hands.
Just then the ultrasound technician came in and introduced herself, shortly after a midwife came in and introduced herself also. The midwife explained everything to Laura and Steve what was happening during that visit, and then the technician took over. She had to use the transvaginal ultrasound due to their baby being too small for a regular ultrasound. Laura held Steve's hand tight as they were filled with anticipation. As soon as the image came and the sound of a fast heartbeat filled the room, both Laura and Steve held back tears. It was hard to see at first but once the technician pointed their baby out they could not stop watching the screen.
Everything seems right on track and from the ultrasound thier baby looked healthy with a verys tring heartbeat. The sonogram was printed out and handed Laura. Steve could not stop grinning ear to ear. Once the technician was out of the room to go get their midwife, Steve gave Laura a big kiss on her lips and began dancing around the room, "Laura Winslow is having my baby, Laura Winslow is having my baby!" Then danced back over to Laura who was rolling her eyes, shaking her head, yet was giving her signature smile to her husband.
"Guess what?" Steve asked her as Laura was sitting up slightly now on the exam table.
Laura eyed her husband with a smile, "What?" Then he gave her a kiss.
"You, Laura Lee Winslow Urkel, you are having my baby!" Steve then took the sonogram picture and just sat down and stared at it.
"Babes we have known for that for awhile..." Laura said as she called Steve by the only nickname she ever called him. She took his free hand and just held it.
"I know that, but hearing his or hers heartbeat and just looking at this picture just makes everything a lot more real." Steve began as he now was looking at his wife, "I've been over the moon happy since we have found out but today just feels like a different kind of happy."
Laura pulled him closer to her as their foreheads were pressed together. "I know what you mean." Then they pressed their lips togehter and enjoyed a long lingering kiss before the midwife came in.
After Laura's exam, her midwife was happy with everything and seemed Laura was in perfect health. But as Steve and Laura did drive separately, Laura headed home as Steve went to go pick up dinner. Once Steve was home, they ate their Chinese food take-out and watched one of Laura's favorite tv shows, Girlfriend's.
The next couple weeks were very busy as Steve was working hard on his new invention with Kevin and other lead scientist and was preparing a two week work trip to Tokyo, Japan. Laura was busy with her one week class, her intern job, and Steve helping her study for the Bar Exam. They were also busy with their friends and family.
March 8th, 2003
Laura was at her twelve week mark and officially out of the first trimester. Tonight they decided to take the family, along with Mother Winslow and her husband Fletcher, out for dinner. Laura even invited Maxine as she wanted to announce to her best friend she was not only going to be an honorary auntie, but also the baby's godmother.
But before they met up with everyone, Steve had to run over to his work. Kevin and him had to make some adjustments before taking the prototype over to Japan. Laura then decided to join Max for lunch. Max had called her as she had something to tell Laura before they all went to dinner together.
They met at their favorite diner and hugged. They ordered ther food and sat down at a table. "So what is so important that could not wait until tonight?" Laura asked with an eyebrow raised as she sipped on her drink.
Max let out a long breath and hopefully the nerves went away. "Well you know I've been seeing someone for a few weeks now right?" She watched Laura nod and continued. "And you have been curious on who he is. And I get that and last time I told you its someone you knew, well we got into a fight over Curtis."
"Well if your telling me you are dating another one of ex's it better not be Ted, that jerk doesn't deserve you. After flirting with me as a married woman, the man screamed desperation." Laura said giving her friend a deadpan look.
"Oh no its not him." Max said with a laugh. "After you told me what he did, I wanted to go down there and tear off my nails and give him a peace off my mind."
"I would have applauded you if you did..." Laura gave her beat friend a grin. Then smacked her arm playfully, "Now tell me who is he if I know the guy!"
Max then took a deep breath as she was scared to see Laura's big smile fade away into her anger face. "First of all we are not that serious yet. We are taking things very casual as I just ended things with Waldo again and well he is going through a divorce..."
Then it hit Laura like a ton of bricks, what Max was afraid of as her smile did fade. "Are you telling me you are seeing my own brother? Edward Winslow?"
