"Humans are full of tricks aren't they?" The Nadder asked.
"I suppose you can call it that." Hiccup said. "It's more about survival really. With each species of dragon being so different humans have had to learn what to do against you guys. So what we can't do in raw strength or speed or smell, we do with our smarts. No slight to your intelligence but the way humans solve problems tend to be in ways that no other species can. That's just how it is. So when that ability to problem is applied to dragons we find ways to combat you. Find your species' basic weaknesses and find ways to exploit them."
"You humans will be the death of us." The Nightmare said.
"Not all of them." Toothless said. "Many will never forgive us. Many will spread their hate for us. To others, to their kin. And their kin will do the same. But some. Some will be able to see through what they think of us as. And as long as we can show them we're not the monsters we once were then there will be hope.
You lot should know by now that Hiccup holds no hate for us. Even though he's been hurt just as much as the rest of us. One of our kind took his mother. Stole her away from him and yet he still opens his heart to us. Not only him but all the humans here today. All hurt by us in some way…"
"Yes, yes we've all heard your speeches." The Nightmare interrupted. "But surely you don't believe that one village of humans will save us all."
"My father's village holds a lot of power and influence. Once we know what's happening with this Bewilderbeast and figure out what we need to do about it then we can refocus on the humans. But I assure you, if I was able to convince my father then the other village chiefs will follow. Not everyone will be convinced. But I think we can convince enough people that we can keep at least the dragons that live in this part of the world safe."
"And what? You can guarantee that?"
"I'm dedicated to making sure that dragons live on. Whether that be just leaving you alone so that you guys can just live as you do now. Or we come together and we find a way to live and work together.
I know that sounds crazy but we can find ways for this to work. We can create those bonds and friendships. We can find ways for you to work with us to gather resources, allowing all of us to benefit.
I just need time. But right now we have to deal with this Bewilderbeast. I think we need to come together. If we force it to come here to attack, maybe we can overpower it. Drive it off and make sure that it knows that it can't take people from us without a fight."
"What if that doesn't work?" The Changewing asked.
"Then at least we go out with a fight." Toothless nodded.
"Will it even come here? Even something that big will have a hard time getting through that fog."
"I don't know. We might just have to move everyone here and force it. If it needs people and there's only one place to find them, it'll have no choice."
"Now you want all of us to move our flocks here?" The Nightmare asked.
"It's just an idea." Hiccup put his hands up. It would just be a way to put us all in one spot and be able to hopefully overcome it with our numbers. Plus it would allow us to get used to each other so if we do have to fight we aren't fighting each other." Hiccup paused. "Although thinking of that, I could mark my people somehow so they would be able to see it and know right away." Hiccup started to walk away, thinking more on it.
"Where are you going?" The Nadder asked, to which Hiccup ignored.
"Let him go. You're not going to get anything out of him now. You'll just finish this conversation with me." Toothless explained.
"He lets you speak?" The Changewing jabbed.
"I speak for my people and my mate when needed." Toothless sat up straight. "Now, I'll keep this short. Do what you think is best for your flock. Do not worry for your land, but your people. You may move them here without question. But if you do, you and your people are under our leadership. You may speak for your flock and their needs but you will make no decisions on how our home is run. You and your people will be treated as our own. As long as you're doing what is expected of you nothing will come of you."
"And if we don't follow?" The Nightmare asked.
"Then you and those who don't wish to help will be forced out to defend for themselves. All we ask is that once settled in, you help gather what we need to survive. More mouths to feed means more work for everyone. Now, you are dismissed. Make your decisions, and if you decide to come to us, you will be welcomed as one of our own."
Toothless nodded to the other three alphas and walked away.
"Well, I guess they're done talking." Stoick said while following Toothless. Astrid followed along.
"What even was that?"
"It was a meeting of the minds. From what I understand, those others were also alphas from other packs. One of them got attacked, and lost people. Bad news at a time like this isn't great." Stoick pulled at his beard. "The offer to bring them all together makes sense. But with each night getting colder, the freeze is soon to come. I'm wondering if Hiccup took that into consideration. Fishing should be fine, but I wonder if they're over fishing trying to feed everyone. Keeping this many mouths fed must be hard at the best of times. Though given what Hiccup said when they took over, the population here was already quite large. But they've added a lot since then." Stoick continued to grumble to himself. "I suppose I could let them fish in our waters. The far out spots don't get touched much."
The group moved along and found Hiccup writing in a journal.
"You know, you shouldn't just leave things like that. They're going to think you don't care about what they have to say." Toothless scolded. Hiccup finished what he was writing and closed the journal.
"I know. I had intended to come back but I couldn't find one of my journals so I had to get a new one and I was thinking about something but couldn't remember what it all needed." Hiccup focused himself. "Sorry. I'll make sure to apologize when we see them next. Mating season's coming soon, we'll probably see them there. I can apologize before the speeches."
"Hopefully we'll see them sooner than that. And with what's happened do you think going out there will be safe? That would be a great time to attack." Toothless sat down.
Yeah well, probably not safe to keep everyone here during that. There's enough fighting on the island during that. Can you imagine it all stuffed in here?"
"What do we do then?"
"I don't know." Hiccup sighed. "Send scouts out a few days before maybe? Give them a way to signal for danger?"
"Well we've got to figure something out. We've taken so much from them already, we can't be taking away the mating season too. Not everyone is as lucky as me and has someone who wants to mate all the time."
