Episode 408: The Floaroma Town Contest
As the days have come and gone, Kairi is making preparations for her next Pokémon Contest. After much consideration, she has decided to use her Bibarel for the Contest.
"Okay, Bibarel! Aqua Tail!" Kairi ordered. Bibarel swings his tail around as it emits water. "Great! Aqua Tail while in the air!" Bibarel jumped in the air with Aqua Tail. "Try these!" Kairi threw some crystals Kairi has made from her magic. as the Beaver Pokémon smacked them with Aqua Tail. "Water Gun!" Bibarel fired Water Gun at the crystals, making them shine brightly upon contact. The crystals were illuminating light from inside. The crystals gave off a beautiful shine.
"That's awesome, Kairi. I didn't know you could make crystals shine with water," May said.
"Neither did I, May. I kinda found that out by accident when I dropped one in the fountain," Kairi said.
"I gotta say, it's not surprising to me since you can use crystal magic, but you sure it's a good idea to be using your magic?" May asked.
"May, I'm using my magic for the Contest, just the crystals that I made from my magic. I found out that I can make things from my magic, and I thought it would be a good idea. But I've saved the best for last. Bibarel! Use Crunch on the crystals!" Kairi ordered. Bibarel rushes over to the crystals and began to chew on the crystals with Crunch, making them into different shapes. May was amazed by what she just saw.
"Wow, this is so very cool, Kairi. How did you figure your Bibarel could do that?" May asked.
"I found that out from watching those Bidoof chewing on solid rock when they were building that barrier when their home was threatened by that Steelix that one time time. So, I figured crystals are included in the mix since they're rocks, too. But I wasn't so sure at first, but Bibarel maneged to get it done. It took some practice for a few days," Kairi said.
"It looks like all that practicing has had off, Kairi. If Drew were here, he would be amazed," May said.
Meanwhile, over to Sora and Pikachu, he exchanged his Hippopotas for Burmy since he wanted his to evolve into a Mothim. He had Burmy go on a sparring match against Shinx.
"Okay, you guys, let's some practice done. Shinx! Tackle!" Sora ordered. Shinx charges at Burmy with a Tackle. "Okay, Burmy! Protect!" Burmy forms a protective barrier to block out Shinx's Tackle. "Great! Shinx! Spark!" Shinx charges at Burmy with a Spark. "Burmy! Dodge it!" Burmy dodges Shinx's Spark. "Tackle!" Burmy lands a Tackle onto Shinx. "String Shot!" Burmy fired a String Shot at Shinx. "Try to dodge it, Shinx!" Shinx manages to dodge Burmy's String Shot. "Keep firing String Shot and Shinx, keep dodging!" Burmy keeps firing String Shot at Shinx as he keeps dodging. It keeps up until Shinx is caught in Burmy's silk. "Great job, Burmy! Bug Bite!" Burmy moved in to deliver a Bug Bite onto Shinx. Burmy then began to evolve. "Yes! You're evolving!"
"Pika!" Pikachu said.
Burmy has evolved right into a moth-like Pokémon with two pairs of wings, one pair larger than the other is. The wings are primarily tan with an orange, oval marking on each. The tips of the wings split into small, orange squares; there are three on the larger pair and two on the smaller pair. His head has orange semi-circular eyes with gray, orange-tipped antennae running along the edges before extending and widening at the top. His body is black with a patch of orange on the underside and a gray stripe down his back. He also has four gray legs and a small black tail that splits into two squares.
"So, that's a Mothim, huh? Better have a look into this," Sora said, taking out his Rotom Phone for information.
Mothim, the Moth Pokémon
The evolved form of the male Burmy
Type: Bug/Flying
Mothim is a nomadic, nocturnal Pokémon that always remains on the move, searching for flower honey and nectar. It has often been seen traveling in fields and mountains.
"Wow. All that hard work has paid off," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"Mothim," the newly evolved Mothim said.
"Hey, that was really awesome the way you were training your Pokémon," a voice said. Sora saw a girl in pigtails.
"Um, thanks," Sora said.
"Say, I was wondering if you would like to view the flowers with me, and maybe we could hold hands while we're at it," the girl offered as Croagunk came out of his Pokéball and used Poison Jab on her. She winced when she felt the paralyzing effect. "But I think I'll be doing it from where I lay." Croagunk then chuckled.
Meanwhile, Wes has took Togetic, Misdreavus and Murkrow out of their Pokéballs. Wes has taken out a Shiny Stone and two Dusk Stones.
"Time for you to evolve," Wes said as Togetic, Murkrow, and Misdreavus touched the evolutionary stones and began to evolve. Togetic has become a Togekiss as Misdreavus became a Mismagius, and Murkrow became a Honchkrow. "Dunsparce, Yanma, Gligar, Sneasel, Stantler, Aipom, and Ursaring are next."
"So, you decided to have them evolve, after all, huh?" Rui asked.
"Well, I figured it's best to get it over with. I couldn't get on with it and not think Organization XIII forgot about it. I could have done it during the Pokémon Stadium Cup, but there was some materials that cannot be found in Kanto," Wes said.
"I do agree, Wes. Go for it," Rui said.
With that said, Wes has gotten work on having his Pokémon to evolve, using his Pokémon Box. Aipom has successfully learned to use Double Hit to evolve into an Ambipom and had Yanma and Piloswine learn to use Ancient Power to evolve into a Yanmega and a Mamoswine. He gotten Dunsparce to learn how to use Hyper Drill, and became a two-sectioned Dudunsparce. Wes had learned that Stantler can evolve into a Wyrdeer when using Psyshield Bash 20 times in Agile Style as Ursaring can evolve into an Ursaluna with a Peat Block during a full moon. Wes has come across a wild Scizor. Wes stood right in front of Scizor, grabbing its attnetion.
"I've got you now," Wes said, taking out a Pokéball and threw it. "Espeon! Go!" Espeon came out to battle against Scizor, so it came at Espeon with a Metal Claw. "Psychic!" Espeon uses Psychic on Scizor, slamming it on the ground. "Psybeam!" Espeon fired Psybeam, hitting the Pincer Pokémon on the mark. Wes took out a Great Ball and threw it at Scizor, making it flow inside it. The Great BAll wobbled around and around. Stars swirls around the Great Ball to confirm the catch. Wes sends Scizor with his other Pok 233mon.
Back in Floaroma Town, Bibarel makes good use of his Water-type attacks with the crystals.
"Great job, Bibarel. Here, you've earned yourself a Poffin," Kairi said, taking out a Poffin for the Beaver Pokémon to eat. Bibarel happily ate the Poffin, enjoying the taste. "You've earned it, Bibarel."
"Hey, that was awesome," a familiar voice said. Kairi, May, and Angel turned to see Kenny coming toward them. "I figured I would see either you or Dawn here. Where is Dawn?"
"She's training," Kairi said. Kenny then sets his attention on May.
"Hey, I know you. You're May, aren't you?" Kenny asked.
"Yes, I am. And who are you?" May asked.
"My name's Kenny, and I'm a Pokémon Coordinator. And I have to say, it's an honor to meet the Princess of Hoenn," Kenny said, making May blush.
"Princess of Hoenn? Me?" May asked.
"Is everyone calling her that?" Kairi asked.
"Vee?" Angel asked.
"You kidding? May is pretty famous here in Sinnoh," Kenny said.
"I had no idea that's what everyone is calling me. This bit of information will kill Harley to a tea," May said.
Meanwhile, Harley gave off a light sneeze, having a feeling someone was talking about him.
"Is someone talking crack about me? I know someone is talking smack about me!" Harley exclaimed.
Back in Floaroma Town...
"Well, Kenny, since you're going to be in the Contest, I just wanted to say, good luck," Kairi said.
"Thanks. Same to you, Kairi," Kenny said. He then looked at May. "And it was nice meeting you."
"You too," May said as Kenny took his leave. "He seems nice."
"He is. He has known Dawn, Lucas, and Barry since they were little," Kairi said.
"When you told him that she's training, does that mean he..." May paused.
"Knows about the Keyblade? He does. That was when were attacked by the Heartless, along with Lucius, Kanako, and Silver Moon. Dawn sudden;y gained a Keyblade of her own," Kairi explained.
"That's right. You think he might be a candidate, too?" May asked.
"I'm leaning in that direction, May," Kairi said.
It was the very next day as the Floaroma Town Pokémon Contest is now officially underway. Sora, Brendan, May, Pikachu, and Angel have taken their seats as Marian has made her entrance.
"Miles and miles of beautiful scented flowers, intermingling with miles and miles of excited Pokémon and their Coordinators, can mean only one thing: it's time for the Floaroma Town Pokémon Contest! The one event on the Contest calander that promises to blend nature's wonders with the wonders of the Pokémon world, in all its radiant glory!" Marian announced as the crowd all starts cheering hard as the Contest was about to begin. "As you all undoubtedly know, the Coordinator who wins at five contest locations throughout the Sinnoh region and gathers five contest ribbons, will then be able to stand proudly on the stage to compete in the prestigious Grand Festival!" Marian holds out an orange ribbon. "And here is one of those five spectacular ribbons for all to see! The fabulous Floaroma Ribbon!" The audience all roar as they saw the ribbon.
"Okay, shouldn't Kairi be up first?" Brendan asked.
"She should be. She did say I would love it as clear as crystal," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Sora said.
"Trust me, you will," May said.
"Now for our judges. First is our Conest Director, Mr. Contesta!" Marian announced. Mr. Contesta stepped up.
"Yes, thank you! I welcome each and every one of you to our contest in this beautiful city of flowers!" Mr. Contersta said.
"Next, Mr. Suziko, from the Pokémon Fan Club!" Marian announced. Mr. Suziko walked up.
"Remarkable! Thank you!" Mr. Suziko said.
"And finally, the fantastic Fantina!" Marian announced.
"Merci, mon ami! Let us have a spectacular Contest, shall we?" Fantina asked as she stepped up.
"And now for the first round! Where Coordinators get to show their Pokémon in their best light! So, let's get this show on the road!" Marian announced. Kairi steps in as the first Coordinator. "Stepping in first is Kairi! Let's give her a big hand!" The crowd all cheer for Kairi as she entered. Kairi took out a Pokéball in a Ball Capsule with a Star Sticker D.
"Bibarel! Go!" Kairi called out. Her Pokéball opened and her Bibarel emerged from inside with a large burst of blue stars. Kairi took out the crystals she created with her magic. "Aqua Tail!" Kairi threw the crystals as Bibarel uses Aqua Tail, batting the crystals. The crystals began to give off a bright shine, much to everyone's awe.
"Wow! I was expecting Bibarel to give us a water show, but Kairi has some crystals that can shine! I wonder-" Marian paused.
"Use Water Gun!" Kairi ordered. The Beaver Pokémon has let out a Water Gun, making the crystals shine even brighter.
"Incredible! Those crystals are giving off a beautiful shine! It looks so magical!" Marian announced.
"Now, use Crunch on those crystals!" Kairi ordered. Bibarel ceased Water Gun and uses Crunch to carve the crystals as they were made of wood. Bibarel has made them into different shapes.
"Bibarel has given us a fantastic finish by using to carve those crystals into different shapes!" Marian announced.
"I was absolutely astounded by the performance her Bibarel has given us! I would never have believed it if I had not witnessed it for myself!" Contesta said.
"Remarkable!" Suziko said.
"I agree with monsieur Contesta. I have never witnessed a Bibarel being to gnaw on solid crystal. And when the crystals have made contact with the water, it was illuminating. Very magical," Fantina said. The crowd cheered for Kairi as she bowed along with her Bibarel.
"Wow, May, you weren't kidding," Sora said.
"I told you," May said.
"I have to admit, that was very awesome. I wonder how Kenny will be able to top that," Brendan said.
"I guess we're gonna have to wait and see," Sora said.
Backstage, Kairi and Bibarel came back as Kenny who now wore a short teal jacket with gold trim and shoulder pads, a teal vest over a white dress shirt with a dark teal tie, a pink belt, teal pants with gold vertical stripes, white leggings, and dark teal shoes.
"That was an awesome performance, Kairi. I can see why you won the Jubilife City Contest," Kenny said.
"You're very nice, Kenny. I'm looking forward in seeing what you got," Kairi said.
"Oh, you'll see," Kenny said.
The contest went on as more of the Pokémon has shown off their talent. A Koffing letting out some white smoke, a Hitmontop spinning through empty soda cans and forms a Hitmontop smiley face, a Sealeo balancing a ball on its nose, and a Kricketune displaying its cutting ability. And next is a man who plays a flute to charm an Arbok. He is dressed in Arabian clothing and a turban. His Arbok moves around as the man. Arbok used Poison Sting and Dark Pulse just by how the flute is played.
"That was a wonderful performance by Raj! Now next up we have Kenny!"Marian announced as Kenny walks on stage.
"Alakazam! Hit!" Kenny shouted as he threw his Pokéball in a Ball Capsule with a Fire Sticker A. His Alakazam makes a burning entrance. Alakazam twirls its spoons.
"And Alakazam makes a fiery entrance!"Marian announced.
Use Light Screen!" Kenny ordered. Alakazam forms Light Screen all around itself in a golden box.
"That Light Screen's totally boxed Alakazam in!"Marian announced.
"Now, use Shadow Ball!" Kenny ordered. Alakazam forms Shadow Ball by placing its two spoons together. The Shadow Ball engulfs Alakazam inside it. "Use Teleport!" Alakazam uses Teleport just before the Light Screen box explodes. Alakazam reappears, astounding everyone. "Now Hidden Power!" Alakazam's body becomes outlined in yellow and it points its spoons in front of it. Multiple light blue circles are then released and circle around Alakazam.
"Now there's a classic Psi Pokémon action for you! Beautiful, powerful moves that make you feel just like when you a young kid watching a magic show!" Marian announced. Sora, Brendan, May, Pikachu, and Angel were all amazed by the display Kenny's Alakazam was showing off. Alakazam's Hidden Power vaporates into small sparkles as the crowd applauds.
"Kenny's been working hard, showing off those moves," May said.
"And not to mention, that Alakazam is pretty strong too," Brendan added.
"Okay, with that we wrap up our first round! Now, let's make a brief pause and let our judges do their thing!" Marian announced. After a few minutes of waiting, the judges have made their decisions. "Alright, we're set! So here are the judges' results for the first round! Eight impressive Coordinators will be moving on. And here they are!" Concratulations!" Kairi and Kenny both made it to the final eight.
"Kairi made it in! I knew she would," Sora said.
"After that stunt with Bibarel, it's no wonder," Brendan said.
"Time to find out the Round Two match-ups!And you all know how we do that! our computer gives it a random shuffle!" The computer shuffles the eight finalists as Kairi is in the first round as Kenny is the fourth round.
"So, which Pokémon will she be using?" Brendan asked.
"She told me she was sending out her Pachirisu. I guess it's because Kenny is sending out his Prinplup," Sora said.
Kairi brushes the elesquirrel Pokémon's fur as she got ready for her upcoming battle.
"Are you ready, Pachirisu?" Kairi asked.
"Pachi!" Pachirisu said.
"Hey, Kairi," Kenny said. She turned to Kenny. "Break a leg out there."
"You do the same, Kenny," Kairi said.
Kairi and Kenny had their battles and won. Kairi won against a Coordinaotr with a Dustox as Kenny won against a Nidoking. Kairi's Pachirisu had won over a Bagon as Kenny won over a Coordinator witha Solrock asfter battling a Sneasel.
"Alright, now it's time for the final stage," Marian annoucned. The crowd cheered. "And here are our dueling Coordinators! It's Kenny on the left and Kairi on the right! To those who forgot, the matches are five minutes on the clock! Let's go!" The clock starts running as Kairi and Kenny made sent out their chosen Pokémon. Pachirisu's Pokéball was placed in a Ball Capsule with a Electric Sticker A on it.
"Go! Pachirisu!" Kairi called out as Pachirisu came right out with a blue electric spark.
"Prinplup! Now, let's hit it!" Kenny called out as his Pokéball was placed in a Ball Capsule with a Star Sticker D. Prinplup came out with so large blue stars coming right out.
"There you go! It's Prinplup against Pachirisu! Will Pachirisu defend its honor as an Electric-type or will Prinplup win over its weakness against Electric-type attacks?" Marian asked.
"Pachirisu! Use Quick Attack!" Kairi ordered. Pachirisu ran across the stage to land a hit.
"And it's Kairi who starts things up with Quick Attack!" Marian announced.
"Prinplup! Drill Peck!" Kenny ordered. Prinplup heads right towards Pachirisu to deliever a Drill Peck hit.
"Now Prinplup is coming right towards Pachirisu with a Drill Peck! How will Pachirisu stand against this?" Marian asked. Once Prinplup got close enough, he dodged Prinplup's attack and does a little twirl.
"What the?!" Kenny exclaimed.
"Pachirisu! Use Electro Web!" Kairi ordered. Pachirisu forms an electrified web and hurls it right at the Penguin Pokémon and got tangled inside it. It cost Kenny a huge sum of points.
"Wow! Pachirisu was leading Prinplup into a trap! How unfortunate for Kenny and Prinplup!" Marian announced.
"Prinplup! Break your way out of that! Use Metal Claw!" Kenny called out. Prinplup uses his flippers to cut out of Pachirisu's Electro Web.
"And now, Prinplup is out of the Electro Web and ready to come back with a vengeance!" Marian announced.
"Pachirisu! Discharge!" Kairi ordered.
"Get ready, Prinplup!" Kenny said. Prinplup got ready for Pachirisu's attack. "Metal Claw!" Pachirisu shot out Discharge all over the stage, captivating the audience as everyone saw how beautiful it was. Even Marian was impressed.
"That is something I wasn't expecting! Pachirisu has sent out a breathtaking and electrifying Discharge, striking Prinplup in the process!" Marian announced. Kenny loses some more points along the way. Kenny was shocked, and not literally, to witness the EleSquirrel Pokémon give off a display.
"This battle is something else! I can see why she won the Hoenn Grand Festival. But I'm not going to go down that easily. Prinplup! Bubble Beam all around!" Kenny ordered. Prinplup fires Bubble Beam all around and Kairi loses some points from each hit. Kairi's points were quickly dwindling.
"Kenny is making a fierce comeback with that Bubble Beam! And we're halfway done with this battle!" Marian announced. The clock was pass two and a half minutes. Kairi knew she'll bounce right back.
"Pachirisu! Quick Attack!" Kairi ordered. Pachirisu ran across the battlefield. And heads right towards Prinplup.
"And what could Kairi be up to?" Marian asked. Pachirisu gets close enough to the penguin Pokémon.
"Now use Sweet Kiss!" Kairi ordered. Pachirisu blows a kiss at the opponent, releasing a pink heart at it. When the heart hits Prinplup, becoming totally confused.
"Pachirisu planted a Sweet Kiss onto Prinplup, making it totally confused! And it's going to cost Kenny some points!" Marian announced. She was right because Kenny lost some points when Prinplup smacked itself in its confusion.
"Electro Web!" Kairi ordered. Pachirisu forms a web of electricity and traps Prinplup once again. Kenny loses some points from that one.
"We're now down to thirty seconds left on the clock!" Marian announced.
"Prinplup! Metal Claw!" Kenny ordered. Prinplup tries to get loose, but ends up getting smacked in its own confusion. Kenny lost some more points.
"Discharge!" Kairi ordered. Pachirisu gave Prinplup another Discharge and has earned a knockout with ten seconds remaining.
"Kenny is all out of points! The winners of the Floraroma Town Pokémon Contest are Kairi and her wonderful Pachirisu!" Marian announced. The crowd goes wild for Kairi on her win. "And now, Mr. Contesta will the prestigious Floaroma Ribbon to our winning Coordinator, Kairi!" Mr. Contesta hands Kairi her second Contest Ribbon.
"Congratulations! You have come a long way since your very first Contest, and you have shined in many ways since then," Mr. Contesta said. Kairi accepts her Ribbon.
"Thank you," Kairi said.
"And that ladies and gentlemen has brought us to the end of this year's flowery fragrant Floaroma Town Pokémon Contest! And don't forget, there are more exciting events on this year's calendar, but we'll see you back her next year!" Marian announced.
After the contest, Kairi changed into her regular clothes and rejoined the others as they prepare to leave for Eterna City on the next day.
"Hey, Kairi, congrats on your win," Kenny said.
"Thank you, Kenny. That was an impressive battle, and I'll tell Dawn you said hi when I see her," Kairi said.
"Sure thing," Kenny said. He then smiled. "But the next time we end up in a Contest battle, I plan on beating you," Kenny said.
"I'm looking forward to see what you have up your sleeve next time," Kairi said.
"Hope so," Kenny said.
The group went for the Pokémon Center to spend one more night before they took off for Eterna City.
After resting at the Pokémon Center, Sora, Kairi, Brendan, May, Pikachu, and Angel have left Floaroma Town and began to head for Eterna City.
Shortly after making their leave of Floaroma Town, Kairi has come across a Pokémon with a spherical, purple body. It has two stringy arms that have yellow, heart-shaped hands on the ends of them. At the base of its body is a frayed protrusion that resembles the tied end of a balloon. In the middle of its face is a yellow tape-like "X" mark, which contains its little mouth in the very center. Located on either side of the "X" are its small, black eyes. A white mass of fluff that resembles a cloud sits on top of its head.
"Better have a look into this," Kairi said, taking out her Rotom Phone and scanned it.
Drifloon, the Balloon Pokémon
Type: Ghost/Flying
Drifloon is filled with air and can either expand or shrink to express its feelings. It also likes damp weather.
"It looks like your Normal-type moves won't cut it against Drifloon, but I think I have one whose moves can," Kairi said, taking out a Pokéball and threw it. "Starly! Go!" Her Pokéball opened and her Starly emerged from inside. "Use Wing Attack!" Starly flew at Drifloon and smacked the Balloon Pokémon with her wings. Drifloon fought back by using an Ominous Wind, but due to Starly being a Normal-type, it has no effect on her. "Aerial Ace!" Starly lands a hit on Drifloon. It fought back by using Gust against Starly and that does hit her. "Aerial Ace on her again!" Starly beans another Aerial Ace on Drifloon, knocking her out. Kairi took out a Pokéball and threw it. Drifloon flowed inside it and the Pokéball wobbled around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. Kairi's Pokéball goes off asking her if she wants to keep her new Drifloon with her. She chose to send Drifloon to Professor Oak's lab. "Great job, Starly!"
"Starly!" Starly said when she started to evolve. "You're evolving!" Kairi's new Starly has become a Staravia. Her Staravia has her spot on her forhead smaller than Sora's. "You're a Staravia, now!"
"Eevee!" Angel said.
Now that Kairi has two Contest Ribbons under her belt, she only needs to retrieve three more. And not only that, but Sora will need to train for the battle at the Eterna City Gym for Sora to win his second Gym Badge in Sinnoh. Stay tuned for more excitement.
