Chapter 521 Afterglow

Scarlett had never felt love before that enveloped her both physically and emotionally. Jax was a strong, tough man capable of great violence, but he had been so tender and gentle with her. She would never forget being with him for the first time. Every single second was perfect and filled with love and pleasure.

It was strange to find herself with Jax. After Violet told her how handsome, sexy and charming he was, she'd rolled her eyes. No man could live up to that except of course the man himself.

She couldn't shake the feeling that Violet wanted her with Jax. There was just something about the way she would talk him up to her. Violet knew that she was wary of men since her psycho ex and needed a guy that could deal with that. Scarlett believed that Violet realized that because he was an outlaw biker, he would be able to handle her past. He wasn't the sort of man to let a psycho ex scare him away.

If Jax and Violet had been together, she would never have given Jax a second look. She was old school. If a man were married or engaged, he might as well be dead for all the interest she would show him.

She felt Violet around her and knew that she was happy that she and Jax were together. Her eyes filled with tears as she felt the loss of her sister. She could confide guy stuff to her. She could talk about her psycho ex to her in a way that she couldn't with her father because he blamed himself for not seeing that her ex was psycho. .

She would have loved to have talked to her about Jax. She had tried to help Violet realize that she needed to put a higher value on herself. It broke her heart when Violet told her she slept with a guy on the first date because if she didn't, he wouldn't ask her out again. She'd told her sister that she was worth more than the cost of a meal, but she'd shrugged.

Her father had tried to help Violet too, but she was a teenager by then and wasn't interested in listening to anyone. What made it worse was her mother took Violet under her wing and they chased men together. After her mother's death, Violet lived with her and her father for awhile before she moved in with a stream of violent, abusive, drug/alcohol addicted men.

In the last two years of her life, she became a nanny. She might have had a terrible childhood, but she was a great nanny. When there was a position in Charming, she'd jumped at it because now that she'd straightened herself out, she wanted Clay to pay for killing Scarlett's mother and her best friend.

Her sister was the only reason she was still alive. Clay would have choked the life out of her just as he had her mother if Violet hadn't gotten her away. She owed her sister.

"I will find who killed you," Scarlett whispered under her breath. "And I will get justice for mom."

She grabbed boxes of tea lights, placed them around the living room and dining area. She'd just finished lighting them all when Jax appeared looking a little rumpled from his nap.

His eyes lit up when he saw her and his lips turned up into a smile.

"Romantic."

"I wanted it to be nice since we're only having sandwiches."

He came up behind her slipping his arm around her waist.

"All I need is you."

He moved her hair aside and began to kiss her neck.

"Don't worry. I've got one arm around you in case your bones melt."

"You're a cruel man, trying to melt my bones."

His lips felt like magic on her skin burning her and stirring up her desire for him.

"I'm hungry," he said in a low growl.

"Dinner's ready."

"I'm hungry for you," he said before he gently bit her ear lobe.

"We could do something about that right now."

"How's your back?" he gently touched her lower back with the fingertips of one hand.

"No problems."

"Remember what I said?" Jax asked.

Jax had told her that they should start slow until they knew whether her back was going to be OK. To that end, he decided they needed to limit themselves to twice per day.

"You could change your mind," she said as she turned to face him.

"I'm not willing to chance doing damage to your back. You remember telling me that you can do things that hurt your back but don't find out until later"?

"That's how I ended up like this. I didn't realize I was messing my back up," she said sadly. She knew Jax was right about taking it easy, but he'd gotten her all stirred up.

"Let's eat," he said kissing her on the forehead.

As they ate their sandwiches, Scarlett wondered what her psycho ex was doing in prison. Probably fantasizing about killing her. She wasn't scared.

He was locked up and he was never getting out.
