The sun was setting over the far off mountains. The two boys sat side by side on the rim of the wall of the city. There were people walking in and out of the gates. Some of the people were pulling carts. Other's were pushing great broad backed beasts of burden. Some were holding their lover's hands. Other's were walking with children on their hips. The tradesman were leaving the city for the night. The farmers were taking the long walk back to their homesteads. Some coin's jingling in their purses. A pair of bored looking guards were leaning on either side of the gates. Only giving the barest glances at anyone who walked past. You could go in and out of the great city of Omashu with ease.
Bumi offered Kuzon a stuffed dumpling. The shorter boy took it and nibbled. He pulled a disgusted face and spat the chunky remains out. He wiped at his mouth in disgust and glowered at the grinning Earth Kingdom boy.
"What's in that thing?"
"My latest culinary invention! Licorice mixed with solid soup! It's spicy! It's sweet! It puts hair on your balls and then curls said hair!" Kuzon groaned and rubbed at his chest.
"I feel like I'm having heart palpitations." Bumi snorted in delight.
"That's probably the pepper! Or the mushrooms, apparently if you eat enough of them you start to hallucinate." The bug eyed wild haired boy gave his nasally snorty laugh and slapped at Kuzon's back. Causing the boy to wobble on his perch. The Fire Nation lad pulled back from the ledge with a scowl.
"Would you be careful! We're high up!" Bumi looked over the edge with the casual air of a suicidal lemming iguana.
"Well so we are." He chuckled and then sat back. He pulled out another bun from the small satchel on his side. He munched reflectively and stared upwards at the bright clear evening sky. The comet was long gone. Almost a weeks worth of stars had been passing overhead. The two boys stared at the glorious sky and waited. Patiently. Expectantly.
No air bison had broken the great monotony of the skys. Not after that first one. Or as some were calling it, that last one. The poor creature had come bellowing out of the south. Weaving erratically through the skies. Thick slabs of hot burns splashed on its great pink skin. It's white fur a mish mash of missing patches and cuts and whip marks. A thick metal wire had been wrapped around one of it's legs. Another leg ended in a fresh stump.
The great beast had come to a crashing halt in the center marketplace. Right at the height of the trading time. People had been stunned. Nothing could hurt an Air Bison. Since the dragons had died they were the largest thing in the sky. But here was one. Racked with gouges and cuts. Burnt to a crisp. Eyes thick with white cataracts. It had bellowed and screamed, it's limbs scrambling impotently at the slick cobblestones. Froth billowing from it's split lips.
It had crash landed on it's side. Let out a single howl of pain and confusion and frustration. And then it had died. Just like that. An old man and a young woman were on it's back. The woman had a spear shaft sticking from her side. She had slipped from the side of the Air Bison's back. Cradling it's head and cooing softly as it had died.
Neither of the Air Nomads had lived much longer afterwards. They only had enough time to tell of an invasion. Of an attack by the Fire Nation. Of their temple wiped down, all the way to the infants in their cradles. Slaughtered, murdered, burnt to a crisp. All of them.
The old man only had time to ask for a glass of water. He had perspired from the three inch burns on his chest and hands afterwards.
Ever since then the city was on edge. Everyone walking around cautiously on their tip toes. As if expecting the Fire Nation to come streaming out of the shadows. Or bursting out from beneath the cobblestones. Or exploding over head in a howling fiery fury. But all remained silent. Apprehensive. Everyone waited for more Air Nomads. For them to trickle in in ones and twos. To glide overhead on their beautiful orange gliders. To sprint in on empty lungs and tired feet after running faster then the wind itself.
But none came. And the day's passed. And everyone nervously looked around. And wondered what was happening. And where was the Avatar.
"There was a royal decree. From back home." Kuzon finally spoke to Bumi. The young earth bender was chewing at his second culinary abomination. He glanced at his foreign friend with a twist of the head.
"They are ordering everyone home. Everyone from the Fire Nation. They need to report back to the capitals. There are a few rumors of travel visas. And also of talk of some people being moved back to the coast of the Earth Kingdom's."
"Sounds like an invasion force." Bumi pointed out smartly. Kuzon frowned and shook his head. He punched his friends shoulder in response.
"Don't be a jerk. It isn't an invasion. The Fire Lord just wants everyone back in the Fire Nation. He want's to keep us safe from any retaliatory attacks. I'm sure that he will explain what happened at the Air Temples soon. I doubt that it was an actually sanctioned attack by the Fire Lord. Maybe there was a coup attempt. Or maybe some bandits all attacked the Air Nomads. Fire Lord Sozin just wants to keep everyone safe. Once we're back home he will let us back out into the other nations again." Bumi frowned at all of that.
"I don't know. It sounds more like your people are gearing up for something bad. Which if you are just let me know. I would hate it if we had to fight against each other." The two boys felt the wind drift across them. They glanced back up towards the still empty sky. They kept on waiting. Kept on expecting. Aang definitely had to be out there somewhere right? He couldn't just be gone. He couldn't have been killed by the Fire Nation. He was the Avatar for crying out loud! He could definitely take any Fire Nation goon in a fight. Fair or otherwise.
"Omashu is also talking about closing their borders and securing their gates." Bumi said in his typical conversational manner. It took a lot to rattle the guy. He would say the most outlandish things without a care in the world. As if what he had just said didn't sound terrifying.
"Secure your borders?" Kuzon asked in confusion. Bumi looked at his pal grimly. Grim did not fit the fun loving mad genius's face.
"Expelling all of the Fire Benders and Water Benders. Kicking out anyone who isn't a natural born citizen of Omashu. Expelling anyone who doesn't have relatives in the country. People have been whispering about it all over the place. And the two old ladies are getting antsy. They were good friends of the Air Nomads. So only seeing that burnt bison is getting their panties in a twist." The queens of Omashu had served for over sixty years at that point. And they were completely unapologetic about how they ruled their city and surrounding country. They did not take kindly to questions of their competence.
The one positive trait that the lovers had was that they were completely and utterly devoted to each other. Most people remarked upon that. Sure they were anal about the mail delivery carts being on time. And insist that the military drill more then any other Earth Kingdom. But they were also constantly putting on art shows, attempting to one up the other with grand romantic reveals, and opened up parks in the other's name.
It was a mixed bag.
"Expelling? Isn't that going to be difficult? Most of Omashu's goods come from trade with the other Kingdom's." Kuzon pointed out. Bumi waved the accusation off.
"True but this is one of the great walled cities. It wouldn't be the first time that our little city state hunkered down." Kuzon took another offered bun. This time the soup wasn't as strong this time. So the flavor of the candy stood out more. He chewed reflectively on the tasty bun. The skin was doughy and light. With the vaguest hint of a crunch.
"I doubt it will lead to anything major." Kuzon stated simply. "I bet that it was all a giant misunderstanding. That Fire Lord Sozin will explain everything. Then Aang will show up and set things straight. He will bring balance."
"The Avatar usually does." Bumi agreed. He was staring out towards the horizon. Looking glum, serious, introspective.
"Still. I feel like something big is on the horizon. Like something bad is going to come rolling through soon." He turned to study Kuzon a little bit.
"You be careful out there okay? When you get back to your Fire Nation you make sure that they don't brainwash you or nothing got it? Just because you're from there doesn't mean you need to agree with everything they say." Kuzon rolled his eyes at his friend's paranoia.
"It won't be like that Bumi. Besides I'm sure that I will be able to convince everyone to just stay calm. Within a few days Fire Lord Sozin will explain what happened. Within a few weeks I will convince everyone back home that we don't need to worry. We can still give our feedback to the Ministers and Magistrates you know. And Within a few months I'm sure Aang will be back and we will all be laughing about this." Bumi smiled sadly. As if his friend was being far too optimistic and naive.
"I hope you're right." Bumi held out a hand. Kuzon clasped it and squeezed.
"Bumi. Buddy. Brother. Everything is going to work out okay. I'm sure of it." Kuzon grinned broadly. Bumi forced his own smile. His missing teeth standing out sharply compared to Kuzon's well groomed looks.
Five Years Later
Kuzon marched with the rest of his unit. Almost one hundred men strong. Marching in rows of five. They snaked down the dust coated highway. The trees to the side burnt to their stumps. The remains of their leaves drifting past in the breeze. Kuzon attempted to focus on the man's back in front of him. On the boots marching up and down again.
He felt that needling madness at the back of his brain and turned his attention elsewhere. They were not permitted to look left or right. Their fellow soldiers as blank and impassive as their neighbors. The bright Earth Kingdom sunlight beat down above them.
Just because they were from the Fire Nation didn't mean they were immune from the heat of the day. Kuzon felt sweat sliding down his face. The dust clung to it. Making a filthy mask that hung from his nose and the tips of his lips. He panted and kept the pace. Not too fast. Not too slow. The same beat that they kept back at the training grounds.
Three years he had been in the military academy. Learning his drills. Being pushed to his very limits. Emotionally, mentally, physically. He was in the greatest shape of his life. His muscles hummed and sung with exertion. And he was dehydrated and exhausted. They had been told that there would be no breaks that day. No food. No water. No rest. No shade.
Twenty five men had already fallen from exhaustion. They had been dragged to the side and flogged with boar bull whips. Punished for their laziness. Kuzon had not looked at the men's faces. Or at their arms and backs. He had just marched. That was all there was to do. March. The weight upon their backs, the armor on their shoulders, all dragging them down into the dust of the road.
They were maybe a weeks march from Omashu. The great walled city was one of the gems of the Earth Kingdom's. It was strategically paramount to conquer it. The trading network expanded all the way from the coast to Ba Sing Se and even into the wild deserts and the untamed spirit swamps. If Omashu was taken then the rest of the Earth Kingdom's would fall in line soon enough.
If they knew what was good for them. If Omashu fell then this war might finally be over.
Kuzon smiled at the thought of it. He could finally go home. Maybe make an honest woman out of Xu Pao. He had been saving and studying. He was not going to be a military grunt for his entire career. He was definitely going to go far. He would impress the higher ups. He was already rubbing elbows with some of the finest that the Fire Nation had to offer.
Fire Lord Sozin's first born son and heir was even a member of his brigade. The young man was younger then Kuzon. But he was fierce and he was decisive. He was also an affectionate older brother and constantly talked of his younger brother Azulon. How Azulon was a bending prodigy. How he had mastered more then just breathing and basics but even the more complex moves. How Azulon would make a fine commander in his own right when he was an adult.
Kuzon was impressed, all of them were impressed. A boy that young being able to command such levels of respect and power. They were all looking forward to when he took the throne.
The regiment came to a shuddering halt. Their arms still at their sides. At the front of the lines a man held up his fist. He glanced left, he glanced right. Something was not right. Kuzon stood up on tip toes. Trying to figure out what was going on. The road and the burnt stumps were empty, the environment was almost peaceful.
A bird let out a little whistle. And another answered all the way across the road. Then another answered. And then more and more. Kuzon snapped to attention and glanced to where the first whistle came from.
"Ambush!" Kuzon shouted. Shooting a fire ball towards the dusty hill to his side. The earth exploded and a shrieking army of men came pouring down. In yellow and green stripped armor. Their flat pan like helmets cracking together as they jostled for space.
Kuzon found himself swamped. Within moments the lines were broken. The ground beneath his feet was collapsing. Secret tunnels and pits opened up beneath him. The avalanche came all at once. Of men and stone and an organized yell.
Kuzon attempted to pick out a man, any man, someone to attack, someone to take down. His fire burst out of his knuckles. Cracking at long drooping mustaches. At scowling broad faces. At proud noses and angry hands.
Kuzon swept a man's feet out from under him. Pounding his blazing fist into the man's neck. Leaving that man ablaze Kuzon turned to the next, and the next, and still the next again. The entire attacking party seemed to be bursting up and down the line. Attacking each group of fine on their broad side. The unexpected ambush broke them. The Fire Nation scattered. Arms above their heads, screaming in horror.
Kuzon saw a man's head crushed under a stone. He saw another man go down ablaze. And still another man collapsed clutching his chest. An unexpected heart condition destroying him.
"To me! To me! Backs together! Keep the line!" Lord Iroh shouted, his broad smart face flashing. A bright blue flame burst from his fists as he encouraged his men together. He let loose a bolt of lightning that left a blot of burnt ground and men across the road. Most of them were Earth Kingdom men. But a few were fire Nation soldiers caught in the crosshairs.
Kuzon turned and sprinted towards his awaiting leader. His breath catching in his chest. He was going to get to that man. He was going to join his Fire Lord. He was going to survive this!
Someone tackled Kuzon from the side. Dragging him down in surprise. The man had no helmet, or armor. He was nude to the waist and roped in thin muscles. His shoulders were broad and eyes were blazing.
The two rolled down the incline. Away from the line. Towards the empty wilderness. Bursts of fire and explosions of earth burst from behind them. Kuzon bit and scratched and scrambled at the half nude man. The two yelling into each other's faces. Kuzon's eyes widened in realization.
"Bumi?!" He shouted. Bumi grinned in delight as realization dawned on the young man's face.
"Heya Kuzon!" The two yelped as they rolled down another incline and found themselves in a small gully. Water pouring down them and cooling the two scrappers off.
Kuzon sat up, his helmet coming off at a weird angle. Bumi stood up with a chuckle. A large red gash across his chest. One nipple hanging on by a thread. The Earth Kingdom boy grinned and offered a dirty bloody hand to his old friend.
"Well slap my salami and call me calamari! If it ain't the Fire Nation nerd! How ya been buddy?" Bumi then scooped the surprised Fire Nation warrior and gave him a back breaking hug. Kuzon stumbled and stared at the lop sided, bug eyed, wild haired warrior. Bumi had a small scruff of hair on his chin. It looked like he had chopped off the tip of a poodle monkey's tail and slapped it there with sap.
"Bumi…"Kuzon said, touching a hand to his round surprised chin. Bumi smiled in surprise. Eyes still wide and teasing.
"Kuzon? You alright? It looks like you just saw a ghost!"
"I feel like I have." Kuzon stumbled, his uniform was slick to his chest and back. Bumi smiled and clapped his hands together. Two thick stone stools shoved themselves out of the ground. At the perfect seat level. Bumi took one and offered the other to his friend. Kuzon sat down heavily with a sigh.
"The attack…." Kuzon felt concussed. And Bumi? Well he looked like Bumi. Grinning, like the world was his own private joke. One that he was not going to let you in on. Kuzon wiped his face. Bumi bent right over and just washed his face in the small stream.
"It will be over soon. And the Fire Nation will retreat. How have you been? It's been what? Five years? Bet that you've kept busy." Bumi glanced Kuzon up and down critically. Kuzon frowned and touched the armor on his chest.
"Its…mandatory. All citizens must serve the Fire Nation during a time of war. It's just what's expected of our people. The only way for the royals to rule is if we serve."
"Sounds like a poor use of your time. Why don't the royals serve and you all rule?" Bumi said with a grin. Kuzon rolled his eyes.
"And why don't you wear hats on your feet and shoes on your head?" Kuzon said with an irritated frown.
"Well why not? Who is stopping you?" Bumi said and leaned back. Kuzon shook his head in disgust again. Bumi was always a headache to deal with. He was a mad genius. And also an exhausting one.
"Bumi….We can't pretend it isn't all different." Kuzon gestured back towards the road. The sounds of fighting were dying up there. The occasional flung rock and the odd burst of fire was starting to dissipate.
"What makes it different?" Bumi said feigning confusion.
"We're on different sides Bumi." Kuzon said softly. Bumi snorted in dismissal.
"So? I'm still your friend. Just surrender to Omashu and we will take you back to the city. Then you can turn on the Fire Nation and everything will be back to normal." Bumi said as he picked his ear and tossed a large glob of ear wax and dirt into the water.
"Bumi….The Fire Nation doesn't accept desertion."
"The Fire Nation is attacking my home Kuzon." Bumi said gently but purposefully.
"We're just expanding. The heir is in that army up there. I am getting close to him. I've been impressing him. I'm sure that within a few months I can convince him to turn the war around. It must have been some sort of misunderstanding." Bumi tossed his head back and laughed. He cut himself off when he saw the other young man's face.
"Oh…You actually believe that." Kuzon frowned and stood.
"Who are you to lecture me on seriousness? On what my nation is doing? On loyalty to a country? All you have been loyal to is your next big idea or next big thrill. All you've been is a little street rat looking for kicks." Bumi frowned at the low blow. His houselessness was primarily by choice. And the fact he was an orphan. No other reason.
"I am not the one attacking another country Kuzon. If you can't see what your nation is doing is wrong….then I can't help you." Bumi and Kuzon frowned at each other. Kuzon looked away first in disgust.
"So this is it then eh?"
"Seems like it."
"We part as enemies? The next time we see each other we try to kill each other?" Bumi stood and cracked his back, bending way backwards. He was almost as flexible as an Air Bender.
"Seem's like it." Bumi snarled back. Kuzon looked at the wirey young man. He had grown into his height and his muscles. He had filled out. Kuzon sighed and looked at Bumi sadly.
"I don't want it to end this way."
"Then don't let it. Come away with me. We can find a place for you in Omashu. We can fight against the Fire Nation together. We can end this war with a few violently placed attacks. You can be responsible for ending the war." Bumi said offering up a hand. Kuzon glanced at it and then away.
"I will end this war. But I will end it on my terms. By convincing my nation to end it. Not by betraying my Fire Lord." Bumi rolled his eyes at the childish naievete of the other man. He snorted and spat.
"Very well then. The best of luck to you….But tell me….Have you seen him? Have you found Aang out there?" Kuzon sighed and gazed down in disgust.
"No. You?"
"Not in years." They both sighed.
"Let's part on happier terms at least. If this is the last I am to see you….let it be with good news. Have you found anyone? Romantically?" Kuzon asked with a grin. Bumi snorted again and quirked an eyebrow.
"My willy has never once been wet. I've got more important things then to stick my cock in someone. How about you? Find a cum dump?" Kuzon looked at Bumi in disgust and then let out a chuckle.
"By the spirits you are crass. Yes. Her name is Xu Pao."
"Is she cute?" Kuzon blushed and rubbed the back of his head.
"She is the most beautiful woman I've ever known." Bumi smiled. He clapped a hand to Kuzon's shoulder and squeezed.
"Luck to you my friend." Bumi said softly. Kuzon returned the nod.
"And to you."
Five years later.
The two dozen men stood around the small table. The scale model of Omashu sat in the center. Heir to the throne Iroh stood with his long black hair in a neat crop. He was one of the few men in the royal family who wore it in the neat trimmed military fashion.
Iroh pushed a small group of wooden pieces across the board. It was similar to a popular board game called Pai Sho. He rubbed his bare chin and glanced towards his advisors.
"Well? What do you think Kuzon?" Kuzon stared at the model and frowned. The young aspiring scholar stroked his cheek as he studied the map. They had been digging in and around Omashu for years now. They were permitted brief periods of rest, most of them he spent back in the Fire Nation with Xu Pao, who was growing round and beautiful with their first child. Kuzon found it tough to focus on the war at times. His final year in the war was fast approaching.
Although he had risen up rapidly in the ranks, he felt no great draw towards the military. Once his mandatory years of service were over he was retiring back home. He had saved up a healthy amount of money, and he had given time to get on the good side of many of the upper military leaders. He had even gotten the chance to meet some of their parents.
Eventually he hoped to retire and start a school. A place to bring all members of all nations together. To educate them in all the cultures. He felt as if Aang would have wanted that. Aang would have wished for the nations to get along.
"The plan is ambitious. But it lacks a central force. If we continue to spread ourselves this thin they will merely knock us down one at a time. The inhabitants of Omashu can easily reinforce the walls and their army. If we instead sunk in here and here we could install trenches. If we starve them out then we can go further. We merely need to go forward. It would be slow progress, but it would cause fewer casualties."
Someone snorted dismissively at the lower ranked suggestion.
"We would be stuck here for months! Years! Decades even! A decisive victory over these rock eaters will gurantee the wars swift end." Iroh rubbed his chin. Ultimately it would be his choice. All of the choices of the army came down to him.
"A quick end. A longer but safer war. A tough choice. Which will cause fewer deaths? That is the question. Will this be fast enough? Will that go correctly? I believe….we shall push far into the interior once we take Omashu. We shall push further and further…..Eventually we shall reach the other shore of the Earth Kingdoms." Lord Iroh frowned and thought. The tent was silent.
The wind seemed to die down. The entire army seemed to wait on baited breath for his decision. He smiled knowingly and turned to Kuzon.
"I have made my decision. We shall go as far as we can and build the trenches—"
"This is far enough." A voice said from behind him. The spear moved fast. Not a single man moved. Iroh stumbled, blood bursting from his mouth. A sickening sucking noise came deep within the tall man's chest. The thick metal rod shimmied in his back. He stumbled forwards. His leg hitting the table.
Bumi crouched in his hole. It had opened up silently behind them all. No one had even heard him, no one had even noticed the ground shaking. He stared purposefully at the Fire Nation soldiers. Then he grinned, his gap teeth mocking the Fire Benders.
Kuzon didn't even have time to shoot a fire ball. One moment Bumi was peeking out at him from the hole. The next minute the entire tent was lifted into the air. The earth quake was sudden, giant spires of stone shot into the sky. Tents were destroyed. Fire Nation recruits were scattering. Screams and crunches and tossed boulders bounced around them.
Kuzon howled and flung a fire ball at a hole that opened up in the ground. He knew it was futile. He knew Bumi was toying with them. He knew that he had failed. His Future Fire Lord was dead. And he had been standing right beside him. Kuzon raged and bellowed and tore at his uniform.
And still the ground shook. As if Bumi was laughing at him.
Fifty years later.
Kuzon sat at the Pai Sho board. The small town in the Earth Kingdom was built in the industrious Fire Nation style. The small tea shop was not a popular hot spot for travelers. The food was bad, the tea watery, and old men tended to gravitate there to talk for long hours.
The Fire Nation colony had been set up almost twenty years ago. The Earth Kingdom laborers and shop keepers had grown used to their overlords. And the Fire Nation magistrates and soldiers and assorted merchants had grown used to their workers. So it was no surprise to see two old men seated across from each other. Drinking tea and playing Pai Sho like two old friends.
Which they were. No one recognized Bumi. After all what would the king of the city of Omashu be doing all the way at the coast? And seated at a small unassuming tea shop to boot? Bumi rubbed his chin and moved a piece. Kuzon moved another piece in retaliation. The two moved a few more pieces.
Soon the pieces resembled a flower unfurling. A white lotus in bloom.
"How far along is the academy?" Bumi asked conversationally. Kuzon grinned softly. His eyes were growing whiter every year as the cataracts bloomed.
"We have accepted one hundred new students this semester. And I have identified over two dozen who would possibly make for strong members of our little club." Bumi nodded. The two had cooked up the idea of the White Lotus during one of their many games of cat and mouse across the Earth Kingdom. It had been a tough time, but the results were worth it.
"I've reached out to the North and South. We might get a few more from there." Bumi rubbed his aching shoulders. Arthritis might be setting in already.
"We could very well see the reunification of all three continents." Kuzon said with a content smile.
"And that wife of yours? And the daughters? And granddaughters?" Kuzon chuckled in delight.
"Still as beautiful as a flower garden. And still growing like weeds. A few of them even want to follow in my footsteps and work at the academy when they finish their service to the Fire Nation." Kuzon winced. No matter how many times he advocated against it, no matter how much proof he presented, Fire Lord Azulon still insisted that every single able bodied man and woman serve the Fire Nation military or navy.
That had been one of the spurs in Kuzon's sides. Once he realized that he might loose one of his children to this endless war. That had made him wish to change it. Bumi rubbed his scraggly chin and chose another piece.
"Excellent. It seems as if the White Lotus might just live on after you."
"After us you mean." Kuzon said testily. Bumi chuckled and snorted.
"Oh I don't intend to die yet. Maybe when I reach two hundred. But not before then. I'm interested to see what is next in this world. I'm sure my reincarnation will understand." Kuzon shook his head at the audacity of his old friend.
"We don't get to choose when we leave this plane and enter the cycle." Bumi looked up sadly. His heart fully displayed.
"Six lumps?"
"Nine last count. All under my shoulder. The doctors say I have a few months left. I will set up what needs to be set up. But I will never know if the lotus blooms after I am gone." Bumi studied the pieces. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. Fighting the tears there.
"I will miss you. I joke about living forever. But losing those you care about….I don't know how I will deal with the sorrow." Kuzon chuckled and shook a finger in Bumi's face.
"That's what you get for never finding a nice girl or a nice guy and settling down. You could have had children and grand children and great grandchildren to care for you in this life. Instead you insisted on being a loner. Don't you care about your legacy?"
"Legacy? My legacy will be the works and efforts of my life. My actions will stay on far after I die. And as for children and a spouse? My willy hasn't gotten wet in over fifty years, and it hasn't gotten hard in the last thirty. So no I am not too interested in breeding a legacy. Leave that to the royals. I am fine with my actions."
"I hate to break it to you Bumi. You are a royal."
"Yes but I proved myself to my country men and they voted me in. I was voted a royal. I had it thrust upon me. And that was mostly just on account of that unpleasantness with Lord Iroh….Didn't your Fire Lord name his first born after his brother?"
"Yes. Little Lord Iroh. The dragon's egg. We all have high hopes for him when he takes the throne. He is…gentle….Intelligent. He was a very kind young toddler when I got to meet him. I hope….Perhaps he will be the one to end this war."
"You Fire Nation folks. Always leaving it all on the shoulder's of Irohs." Bumi chuckled and stood. Kuzon embraced his old rival, his old enemy, his oldest friend. The two squeezed each other tight. The breeze stirring their robes. They watched as some leaves danced down the street. Very similar to how an old friend of their's would.
"The world lost balance when it lost Aang." Kuzon said sadly. Bumi frowned and ground his teeth.
"And it's up to us old folks to put it back." Kuzon nodded. If the Avatar was not going to be around to save the world….then by gum it was his friends job to finish it. The two founders of the White Lotus secret society bowed. Each knowing this was the last time they would see each other.
Bumi turned and headed towards the interior. His city needed him. His people awaited his orders.
Kuzon turned to the sea. He walked carefully. His eyes squinted. His wife and children and school waited for him. He had much to do before he left this mortal coil. He held no regrets, besides maybe taking so long to reconcile with Bumi.
And not seeing an airbender again. That stuck with him.
An old man shoved past Kuzon. Causing him to stumble. He stunk of furs and mud and the woods.
"Excuse me." The man said gruffly. As if he was not used to speaking. Kuzon rubbed his eyes. He had to have been seeing things. He thought for a brief moment….He'd thought he saw a blue arrow on that man's hand.
Editor's Note: So just to recap, Bumi and Kuzon were friends. Then they were on opposite sides of the war.
Creeply: Yep
Editor's Note: And Fire Lord Sozin had two sons. One named Iroh one named Azulon
Creeply: Yep
Editor's Note: And Bumi killed the older one Iroh which is how Azulon inherited
Creeply: Yes
Editor's Note: Kuzon went on to build a Fire Nation academy, and Bumi earned his right as King. And then both went on to find the first iteration of the White Lotus
Creeply: That pretty much nails it on the head.

I do not do pedophilia, all characters are aged up in this stuff or aged down depending on the character, no loli, no yaoi, no shota, I don't do watersports (Shit/Piss/fart fetish shit)I don't do stuff like vore or entire bodies getting shoved into places (Shrink play) I don't do blood play or torture (Ball/cock crushing etc) or certain old people, (Yes I am a fucking hypocrite) . Also if you ask for something in reviews that normally means I won't do it. So anyone who asks for that will be disappointed. If you have questions/requests/suggestions PM me instead.
Also have an ao3 account under the same name. and same titles.
