Chapter 6: A Restaurant's Dark Secret

XXXXXXXXXX

THE NEXT MORNING

when the manager came to open the place, he saw that Andrew's car was still in the parking lot, but the man himself was nowhere to been seen in the building, only his guard's hat was found in the security office alongside the now broken security tablet. He new what that meant of course and immediately called the current owner to warn him of another missing guard.

Hours later, said owner finally came to get the result of the search organized by the manager and the rest of the staff, per his orders, but just like so many times before, nothing. This is the 26th time they've been looking for a missing Night Guard. Each and everyone that they've hired to work at this location all disappeared under the same mysterious circumstances in the past 10 years, and just like the other times they found nothing, no clue as to suggest if it was foul play or what.

Owner: *On the Phone*... No, no Mrs Gouberman, the last time anyone saw him he was getting in his car and driving away, are manager and a few day shift workers coming to open the place said so themselves, i have no clue where he can be right now... Of course Mrs Gouberman, if i know anything about your son's whereabouts i'll let you know... Oh no, wait a bit before calling the police, i'm sure he's ok, what kind of trouble could such a nice kid be in?...

Sees the manager coming in the Office

Owner: Now if you'll excuse me ma'am, i'm late for a meeting with my staff... Don't worry i will, have a good day Mrs Gouberman *Hangs Up* So, is everything i told you to do done?

Manager: *Sits Down* I moved Gouberman's car to the storage warehouse behind the restaurant, i'll properly get ride of it tonight. And everyone that participated in the search can expect a bonus on their next paycheck for their silence.

Owner: *Smile* Wonderful, now all that we need is a new Night Guard and we'll be golden *Gets Up* i'll leave that and the rest to you Roger, have a nice lunch rush.

The owner was about to leave, but half way across the office he was stopped by Roger the manager, who got up and grabbed him by the arm.

Owner: *Turns to face Roger with a mixture of confusion and annoyance* Is there a problem, Roger?

Roger: *Scowls* 26 Night Guard Bertrand, 26 disappearance in a decade, not to mention a group of 4 teens that vandalized and tried to robe the place during the period we didn't hired another guard, that's 30 unsolved disappearances connected to this restaurant, it's a miracle the police hasn't come down here to investigate.

Bertrand: *Pulls his arm away from Roger* Not a miracle, Roger, its my money and connections that's preventing the cops from coming down here and closing the place. As such, i really don't see why you're so worried about it, it's all fine.

Roger: *Scowls more* Well it might not be ''fine'' for much longer. The day before Andrew disappeared, we got a visit from a Private Investigator hired by the Wife of the last Night Guard, to find some clues about her missing husband. He asked a lot of questions, i managed to answer most of them without giving anything away, but i could tell he's suspicious.

Bertrand: Well then get ride of him! Give him a false trail to follow! Bribe him! Something! Here *Takes out his check book and a pen* give me a number and i'll write you a check to give him.

He was about to write the check here and there, but Roger stopped him.

Roger: Don't bother, i know that type of guy, no amount of bribes will make him stop. *Sigh* I hate to say this Bertrand, but we're down to are last resort *Looks him straight in the eye hard* We have to scrap the Animatronics and relocate somewhere else.

Bertrand: *Angrily* Absolutely not, are you out of your mind Roger?

Roger: It's the only way we can save the restaurant AND avoid going to jail.

Bertrand: If we scrap the animatronics, there will be nothing left to save, they're the face of the franchise.

Roger: Order some new ones, ones that won't kill are night staff or gouge out the eyes of are customers(1).

Bertrand: I CAN'T, the guy that created those guys kicked the bucket years ago and there's no robotics engineer out there that can make animatronics as advanced as those. *Crosses his arms* No, they're staying.

Roger: *Growls* Damn it Bertrand, if you don't get those things scrap soon i'll... i'll go to the police myself and i'll tell them everything.

Bertrand: *Eyes wide in shock* You wouldn't. You'll just end up in jail with me if you do.

Roger: At the point where we are Bertrand, i don't really care anymore, i wan't this whole mess to end, one way or the other. *Softens* Please Bertrand, if not for my sake or the sake of those working here, at least do it for your own, and the restaurant you are so desperate to keep open.

Bertrand was so not happy about any of this, glaring at his manager for a solid minute while trying to find a retort for how it still was a bad idea to get ride of their animatronics, but couldn't find any, none that will convince the stubborn man anyway, so with a heavy sight, he conceited.

Bertrand: Fine, you win Roger. We'll talk about it more tonight at Olive Garden for dinner, my treat?.

Roger: *Smile* Thank you Bert, and sure got no other plans.

Bertrand nods to Roger silently with a small smile before walking to the door, but then stopped again and turned back to Roger.

Bertrand: By the way, did that detective left a business card or his phone number by any chance?

HOURS LATER, AFTER MIDNIGHT

Two men were at the locked doors of the restaurant, from the inside, trying to open them. It was Roger and the Detective from the other day.

Roger: *Worked with the detective to force the doors open, but failed and now slammed his hand on the glass* DAMN IT.

Detective: *Slams his hand on the glass to, then turns to Roger* You're the manager of this damn place, don't you have keys.

Roger: Bertrand took them from my coat pocket when he drugged be, that son of a bitch.

A son of a bitch indeed, the only reason he caved to Roger's threat earlier, is because he already came up with a solution to remove all of his current problems: Feed his manager and the noisy detective to the bots.

FLASHBACK, THIRD PERSON'S P.O.V

First after leaving the restaurant, he called the detective with the business card he left Roger, asking him to come to his house, saying he wants to help him solve the case of the missing Night Guards. But the moment he stepped foot in his house, while his back was turned Bertrand injected a potent sedative in his neck, knocking him out. He then stuffed him in the trunk of his car and hide the Detective's car in his garage for the time being, before getting ready for tonight.

A little after nine, when the Pizzeria closed and all the employees left, Bertrand made a quick stop there to lock the still out cold detective in the building, dragging him through the front door to leave him sitting near a wall before taking steps to be sure he won't survive the night before locking the front door again and leaves for Olive Garden where Roger was waiting for him.

They spent a good hour shatting about potential location they could move to and where they can find robotics experts that can craft them new animatronics over Chicken Alfredo pasta and red wine, when Roger had to excuse himself to the bathroom, that's when Bertrand made his move and slipped a few drops of the same sedative into his glass, so when he came back and took a few more zips, he appeared very drunk and had to be driven back home. Bertrand called a cab in order to cover his tracks, and secretly bribed the cab driver with a 1000$ so he would drive Roger's near unconscious form to the Pizzeria and leave him at the back exit, and lie about where he brought the man if ever he was asked.

After paying for the whole meal, he quickly drove to the Pizzeria, unlocked the back exit door, dragged the knock out Roger inside and quickly left by the same door, locking it back on the way.

END FLASHBACK

A couple more hours later, both men woke up in the dark, confused and groggy do to the drugs and wondering a bit in the place before finding each other. They wasted no time trying to find in exit, which takes us back to the front doors where they still try to break it down.

Getting pist off now, the detective went to get a chair and use it to try and smash the doors open, but they wouldn't budge and the door's glass was barely scratched.

Roger: *Grabs the man as he was going to swing again* Don't bother detective, the doors are sealed with a magnetic lock and the glass is bullet proof.

Detective: *Looks at Roger incredulously* Magnetic Locks and Bullet Proof Glass!?

Roger: I know, I know, it seems like overkill for a Pizza Place on the decline but trust me- *Suddenly hears what sounds like metallic foot steps heading their way and pales* Oh no, they're coming.

Detective: *Heard the steps to* They're coming? Who are you talking about?

Roger: *Grabs his arms and runs* No time to explain, we need to get to the security office, it's the only safe place.

But alas for the 2 men, Bertrand knew that little detail as well, so when they finally reached the office without opposition, they discovered that the security doors, which normally can only be closed from the inside, were somehow closed and sealed off.

Roger: *Runs his hands on the door in panic and disbelief* Wha? How? This isn't possible, THEY CAN'T BE CLOSE FROM THE OUTSIDE.

While Roger was having his panic attack and trying in vein to open these doors, the detective spotted something on the other side of the darken hallway, illuminated by a single light. It looked small, no taller then a 8 or 9 year old kid with big pointy ears on the top of its head and a fluffy looking tail behind it.

Detective: *Turns to grab Roger and shakes him to make him stop freakin out* Will you quit it you idiot and run *Points down the hall and runs in the opposite direction without waiting for him*

When Roger looked, he palled recognizing Tails silhouette and ran where the detective was going. But when he turned down the Hallway, he tripped on something and fell hard on his face. Moaning in pain, he tried to turn on his back and get up, only to be met with a large hammer to the face that knocked him out before he could see it coming.

WITH THE DETECTIVE

The man continued running down the Hallway until he spotted a closet door. Thinking he could hide in it until dawn, he made a B-line for the closet door, opened it, got in and slammed the door closed.

Detective: *Turns on the Light in the closet, breathing heavily* Ok Danny, you got this, stay out of sight from whatever is out there, and you'll be fine *Rubs away the cold sweat from his face before it changes from panic to rage* Shit Defago (2), if we both get out of this alive i swear i'll kill you and your asshole of a boss.

Sadly for him he'll never get the chance. Seconds later, he felt a finger tap on his shoulder, making him tense up sense he's suppose to be alone in this closet. He slowly turned around, and let out a blood curling scream just before the sounds of what others would assume to be a vicious animal attacked, caking the closet window in blood out turning out the light by breaking the light bulb. It all lasted for a good couple of minutes before the world returned to silence, i the closet and the restaurant.

To Be Continue...

Point (1): It explains my version of the ''Bite of 87'' called the ''Gauging of 2013'', which happens not long after the ''Disappearing Children's Incident''. Knuckles the Dread's own malfunction caused him to gauge out the eye of a client with the tip of his Cutlass, starting the slow decline of the Pizzeria for the next 10 years.

Point (2): It's the last name of are dear manager, Roger Defago.
