Chapter 16: Eda's Old Friend
It was a normal day that the Owl House. Eda was looking over a to do .list when she heard something going on.
It was Luz and King doing hanging sit ups using Eda's staff while Mina. Toru and Ochaco all cheered them on and helped.
That was when she heard Luz ask what King would do when he met his dad. He listed off various things.
It hurt Eda… however that was when the conversation changed.
"Have you told Eda about your surprise?" asked Toru.
"Not yet… it's a big thing and I don't even know if he would like it." Siad King.
"She's going to love it." Said Luz.
"why are you calling it a surprise?" asked King.
"Because it is… and if anyone hears it might get Back to Eda." Said Toru.
"Like Hooty." Said Mina.
"You've been trading gossip with Hooty" Said Luz.
"Yeah… but I haven't told him this…" said Mina.
"You better not! I don't want Hooty to know before Eda." Said King.
Eda closed the window not wanting to hear more, after all it was supposed to be a surprise.
To get her mind off the upcoming surprise she noticed a lute and played it, she was surprised by the glowing and the floating but stopped playing when she noticed horrible corruption started to effect everything.
Sometime later Eda had the news on a crystal ball while she looked over things and some of the teens hung out in the living room.
The news turned to the fact that the Bard Coven had a new head… one with ironically stage fright.
"A bard with stage fright." Said Eda with a fond tone in her voice.
"Do you know them?" asked Jiro raising an eyebrow.
Eda just brushed her off.
That was when Luz came in with a very full back pack that was floating on a strange.
"Yaomomo… can I have another backpack and a bunch of barf bags." Said Luz.
"Of course." Said Yaoyorozu who decided it would just be easy easier than to find a backpack… especially the other one was clearly filled with vomit.
"So what's the obsession with flying?" asked Eda.
"They're practicing for the Gland Prix." Said Toru.
"The winner get an interview" said Mina.
"I'm hoping if I get interviewed I might be able to find my dad." Said King.
"Really?" asked Eda.
"Yeah… but the main problem is that well… King isn't going great with tight turns." Siad Luz.
"There's. reason why I'm help." Said Ochaco.
"Yeah. Her quirk can make her vomit rainbows!" laughed King.
"King!" said Ochaco blushing bright red.
King just laughed.
"So I think you can get why we're doing this." Said Luz.
"Yeah, yeah." Said Eda, "Wait… why aren't you work on the Echo Mouse?"
"Oh Koji took over… since you know he's good with animals… plus he's able to help relax the Echo Mouse after what happened with Hooty."
"Wait… what happened with Hooty?" asked Eda.
"I think you know what happened…" said Luz.
Hooty ate it, thankfully he did coughed it up.
"Oh there's something I wanted to talk to you about." Siad King.
"Is it the surprise I heard you talking about?" asked Eda.
"You didn't hear what is was? Did you?" asked Luz.
"As long as it's not you planning on ditching me for your father I'm all for it." Said Eda.
"So hypothetically if it was the exact opposite of it you would love it?" asked King.
"What would be the exact opposite?" asked Eda.
"Tada!" said King taking out appears from somewhere.
He handed them to her.
"What is this?" asked Eda.
"Paper work to legally change my name to King Clawthorne. Everything is filled out, you just have to sign it." Said King, "You're the one who found and raised me. You're my mom and I want to make it official!"
Eda was shocked but in a good way…
"What… what about your dad?" asked Eda.
"Like I said you're the one who raised me and maybe you can work out a joint custody agreement like what you did with Luz's mom." Siad King.
(Flashback)
Luz set up a video call so that her mom and Eda could talk.
"Don't worry about it." Said Eda.
As Luz left Camila picked up the call.
"So…" said Eda.
"Your Eda who's been teaching Luz magic." Said Camila .
The two chatted for a while.
"You really care about Luz." Said Camilla.
"Yeah, I do she's a great kid." Said Eda.
"You should teach her on weekends when she comes back." Siad Camilla.
"Really?" asked Eda, "Why not the whole week?"
"Well you know… laws about school here on earth." Said Camilla.
"Ah… that's makes sense…" said Eda.
(End of Flashback)
"That was just us talking about Luz." Said Eda.
"Yeah… keep telling yourself that." Said King.
However Eda couldn't help it, she started to cry. Everyone could tell they were happy tears.
"Were you worried that King was going to ditch you?" asked Jiro.
"Shut up… I wasn't worried at all." Cried Eda.
No one dared to comment that it was clear that she was scared that King was going to leave.
"Hey… you're going to get me to start crying…" said King.
Of course he started to cry.
The two hugged and cried for a bit, of course she signed the papers, however he still has to get back to training. And with an agreement to celebrate after the Gland Prix, Eda headed to a bar to do her own celebrating.
"I'm officially a mom!" cheered Eda.
Much of the bar cheered.
"Wait you were pregnant?" asked one of the patrons.
"No… I officially adopted King… Honestly he was a little kid." Said Eda.
"Oh! That makes so much sense now!" said another of the patrons.
And so the patrons cheered again.
However the good mood was interrupted by some coven scouts arresting a purple haired witch for being a Wild Witch.
Of course being a Wild Witch herself Eda didn't want to take it laying down.
"Add it to my tab." Said Eda.
The bar tender just sighed as Eda had never paid her tab.
She went outside and knew she had to stop them.
"Hey! Let her go!" called out Eda.
"Back off Owl Lady!" said one of them.
"Yeah! No coven wants a powerless witch!" said the other.
She then punch one of them out.
"How's that powerless?" asked Eda.
The crowd gathered "oohed" as the Coven members readied for an attack.
However that was when music started playing and they all turned to a group playing music, even using their Bard Magic (as it was clear they were bard) to cause a light that made things around then float. All of them were wearing masks that resembled bats.
The leader who was playing the viola began to speak.
"Look at the emperor's lackeys… trying ug…" said the leader who seemed to be embarrassed, "Do I really have to say this?"
"We agreed on the script!" said one of the other members playing the tambourine.
The leader sighed.
"Trying to mute the magic of our hearts…" sighed the leader.
Eda looked at the group and realized something about them… and knew what she had to do…
She went into a manhole to wait for to the group to be cornered.
After all she knew that if the Coven members were serious they would try to corner them and capture them.
And of course the group with their flowery speeches that the leader was unsure about sent the coven members away making them puppets to their music. However more showed up wearing earmuffs to block their music.
Eda let herself be known to the group.
Thankfully they were able to create a smoke screen and make their way through the manhole and out of the city.
"End of the line… word of advice next time you put on a show, make sure you have exit strategy." Said Eda .
"How we can ever repay you?" asked the tambourine player.
"You let me help your team." Said Eda.
The team gasped.
"Look the Emperor's Coven is up to something big and I'm an agent of chaos." Siad Eda, "I can help you strategize and get help from my sister who had ideas before she had to leave the Emperor's Coven."
"Sorry but we're not accepting new members." Said the leader.
"Is that anyway way to treat an old friend Raine Whispers?" asked Eda.
Eda removed the mask indeed they were the new head of the Bard Coven.
"So the new head of the Bard Coven is pretending to be a rebel." Said Eda, "Too bad they're not very good at it."
"Eda! You're embarrassing me in front of my crew!" said Raine blushing.
The team was confused. However…
"It's okay the Owl Lady is an old friend." Explained Raine.
"Nice to see you again." Said the tambourine player.
She was someone that she, Luz and King freed from the Conformatoriuim when Luz first got to the Boling Isles.
"So is she going to join our group?" asked one of the members.
"No… I can't." said Eda, "I'd just become an advisor…"
"That doesn't seem like you…" said Raine.
"I just became a mom today." Said Eda.
Rainie started blushing and eyed Eda.
"Through adoption… I found and raised a young demon and he decided to legally change his name to Clawthorne officially making him my son." Siad Eda.
Raine was surprised through mentally breathing a sigh of relief in a deep part of their mind.
They then coughed.
"Anyways Eda was the one who inspired me." Siad Raine.
"What?" asked Eda.
Raine explained how Eda inspired them to rebel with something she said to them when they were…. Um… closer…
Rainie also realized what Belos was doing to witches who didn't join covens and knew they had to do something.
"That's why I found others who wanted to same goals and we have become the Bards Against the Throne… AKA…" said Raine.
Then all of them said in unison "The BATTs!" and hisses.
That was when they heard the Emperor's coven looking for them.
"Come on Lily might have some ideas for your little group." Said Eda.
Raine nodded and they all headed to the owl house.
During the walk there she was given introduction to the other three members: Katya (who she had rescued), Amber and Derwin.
Eda also had to explain about the humans.
"So I'm taking care of a bunch of human teenagers that are stranded here on the Boling Isles." Said Eda.
"Wait you only had one?" asked Katya.
"Oh Luz is my student." Siad Eda, "Though I am taking care of her until she gets to the Human Realm… then she come over on the weekends. No these are other teens who got standard another way. Also a heads up, something most people don't know about humans while they mostly can't use magic they have their own powers and some of them are realty strong."
As they got closer to the owl house, Kaminari ran over to Eda.
"EDA! Please help me! I drew on Bakugo's bandage while he was taking a nap and it caused his nose to start bleeding a lot and he knows it's me and now he wants to kill me!" cried Kaminari.
Eda looked at Kaminari .
"No…" said Eda glaring at him.
"WHY!" he cried.
"Did you forget when you messed with my elixir?" asked Eda giving him a look.
Kaminari realized he walked into that one and ran away as they heard Bakugo yell "YOU BASTARD!"
They all watched in horror as Bakugo blasted his way towards Kaminari who ran away in fear.
When they got there they found Yaoyorozu and Jiro string up Mineta.
"I didn't mean to do it!" yelled Mineta.
That was when their Palismans flew to him at started to peck and bite him.
Yaoyorozu then created some weapons.
"Hey do you know where Lilith is?" asked Eda.
"In the kitchen talking to Sato about food for the upcoming party." Said Yaoyorozu.
"Thank you." Said Eda.
The bards all looked at Mineta.
"We caught him trying to into girls room." Said Jiro, "He hasn't learned his lesson."
"Ah… makes sense." Siad Amber.
"Aren't you the head of the Bard Coven?" asked Jiro recognizing Rainie.
"I have to go talk to Lilith." Siad Rainie.
Jiro just looked at Raine as they went into the Owl House.
"Seriously Mineta you have to stop doing that." Siad Yaoyorozu.
Mineta just whimpered.
Inside the kitchen, Lilith and Sato were talking about the menu,.
That was when Lilith.
"Oh Edalyn! I was talking to Rikido about the menu for the party to celebrate King becoming a Clawthorne!" said Lilith who then squeed, "I never thought I would have a nephew!"
That was when she noticed the Bards.
"Wait… Raine what you doing here?" asked Lilith becoming concerned.
"They're rebelling against the throne." Said Eda.
"really?" said Lilith surprised yet at the same time not surprised.
"I am… whatever the emperor has planned I can't just stand around." Siad Raine.
"Oh tell me of your plans I can help. I developed a few plans for about five minutes before I realized the type of person Belos was." Said Lilith.
"What did he do?" asked Rainie.
"He promised me that he would cure Eda's curse if I had her join the Emperor's Coven. However he just wanted a portal that Eda had at the time and had no plans to cure her." Muttered Lilith.
Everyone in the room could tell that the fire inside of Raine was lit even further.
Though even Raine knew they had to explain themselves.
"Sorry it's just that hearing he used you like that." Said Raine.
"I get it." Siad Eda.
"So what are you doing to fight against Belos?" asked Lilith.
Raine explained what the BATs did. However Lilith realized something wrong with the plan.
"No offence but there's a huge flaw in the plan." Siad Lilith.
"How dare you! The Plan is flawless!" said Amber.
"So you think it's a good idea to have a coven head be on the front lines and not act as a spy?" asked Lilith.
"What?" Amber.
"Wait… you're right…" agreed Katya, "If Raine's on the front lines."
"then they would know I'm a spy and do something horrible to me." Siad Raine.
"Exactly." Said Lilith.
Raine sighed and realized she was right.
"I'm not saying you have to leave the bats, you have to be the conductor." Said Lilith.
"Aw man!" said Amber.
"What it makes the most sense." Said Derwin.
"I hate that she's right and Raine has to no longer be in the spotlight." Said Amber.
"Hey at least they won't complain about the script anymore." Siad Katya.
"You're right!" said Amber.
Raine sighed.
"We still don't know what the day of unity but considering he kidnaped and mindwiped one of the kids." Said Lilith.
"He what?" asked Raine.
"Oh don't worry, he was rescued and his memories restored… the only problem we have is a bunch of teenaged drama!" said Eda.
That was when the door slammed opened and Bakugo walked in with Izuku following him.
"Please Kacchan! Let me help!" said Izuku, "I'm the only one of the students taking the healing course! I learned how to fix it, plus with Sir Fluffyton I'm able to use magic now."
Izuku's Palisman making squeaky sounds as he was Sir Fluffyton.
"I don't need your help Deku!" yelled Bakugo.
"You're still bleeding badly!" cried Izuku.
The bards stared at this.
"The green kid is the one who got his memories erased." Siad Eda.
"Katsuki will probably accept my help." Sighed Lilith going to help him.
That was when the door opened and the Gland Prix group entered the kitchen .
"So glad that Yaomomo made a bunch of barf bags." Siad King.
"You got that right." Siad Luz.
"Sorry my advice isn't working." Said Ochaco.
That was when they noticed the bards.
"Oh hey! Long time no see!" said Katya to Luz.
"Hey! Still working on those vegetable fanfics?" asked Luz.
"You know it!" said Katya.
"So still unable to keep it down?" asked Eda.
"Yeah…" said King.
"You'll get it right!" said Eda, "You still have a couple days."
"Is he?" asked Rainie.
"Yep! This my son King Clawthorne." Said Eda.
"Congratulations!" said Raine.
Mina looked between the two.
Then Eda noticed the look.
"No…" said Eda, "Stop… it's not like that!"
"I didn't say anything!" said Mina.
"I can see that shipping look a mile away, we're just friends." Said Eda.
Mina pouted.
"So… who are you?" asked King.
"I'm Raine Whispers, the new head of the Bard Coven." Siad Raine.
"And a brand new spy to make sure that if Belos tries something he can give us word something is going down!" said Eda.
"Good." Sighed Luz.
"I don't want him trying to get Deku again." Sighed Ochaco.
"Not to mention the stuff about the Palisman." Siad Luz.
"If I get word on the plans… I'll tell you." Said Raine.
"Thanks so much." Said Eda.
That was when Shoji showed up carrying a burnt up Kaminari.
"What happened to him?" asked Luz.
"Messed with Bakugo's bandage…" said Shoji.
Ochaco sighed.
"I'll help him." Sighed Ochaco, "Don't mess with the magic bandages… I learned that in class."
Kaminari just groaned.
Raine raised an eyebrow.
"Half of the kids are in Hexside so they're not here all day." Explained Eda.
"Ah…" said Raine.
"Also yeah… this is a pretty normal day..." said Eda.
Raine nodded.
Still they had it plan things out namely because there were raids going onto capture wild witches and give them Coven Sigils. Thankfully Rian e asked both Eda and Lilith to help plan it out since they couldn't be on the front lines.
Thankfully with the plans, they were able to save the witches and get them to safety.
Also as the sisters were leaving for the night. Lilith gave Raine a list.,
"What is this?" asked Raine.
"It's a list of locations that they might set a trap for you. I don't think they switched to new trick locations yet.." Siad Lilith, "IF you find a raid is taking place there then it's a trap."
Raine nodded.
A few days later…
It was the Gland Prix. All of Class 1-A along with Eda and Lilith were watching the race.
"All right! You can do this!" cheered Mina.
"Go King and Luz!" cheered Toru.
"I really hope King doesn't you know…" said Ochaco.
"I hope so too." Said Izuku.
And soon the race got started with Luz and King getting in first right away.
That was when someone showed up and sat in-between Eda and Lilith.
They both glared at the person but they noticed it was Raine wearing a hood trying their best to remain inconspicuous.
"I thought it would better to thank you in person instead of Penstagram." Siad Reine.
"What happened?" asked Lilith.
"I got word of a riad but the location was one of the ones on the list." Said Raine.
"They're already setting up traps for you." Siad Lilith.
"Yeah." Said Raine.
"COME ON! KEEP IT UP!" yelled Eda.
"Luz is the one who is Eda's students before the others showed up." Siad Lilith.
Then whispered to Raine "She sees Luz as something of a daughter."
"I see…" said Raine quietly.
Raine then looked at Eda.
She didn't want to say anything but could tell form that look, that Raine… was still feeling certain feelings. She decided it was better not to say anything.

Raine decided to watch the race they were there anyways.
And as they watched as King couldn't help but vomit after the turn causing Luz to crash.
The entire group groaned.
"Oh man! Now King won't be interviewed." Said Toru.
"Don't worry, I have a backup idea that will work." Siad Eda.
Raine was confused.
"King is trying to find his dad… it's a thing." Siad Eda.
Raine just nodded.
Luz and Kin managed to recover from the spill but it was nowhere close enough.
The only solace they could take was that they didn't get last place.
They landed.
"You saw that didn't you." Said King.
"Hey! At least you didn't get last place." Siad Eda.
"Maybe I should have added Yuga to the training." Said King.
"Eh… he get diarrhea, not vomit." Said Mina.
"Hey!" yelled Aoyama.
"Don't worry I have an idea to get word to your dad." Siad Eda taking out her Penstagram.
She began a stream.
"Are you sure about this?" asked King.
"Nobody watches Crystal Balls anymore." Siad Eda.
King took a breath and began his message.
"Hey dad! I hope you're watching. My name is King Clawthorne. I recently took on that name… the Clawthorne part… not the King part. I hope you're watching dad. I like cheesy food conquering kingdoms… though I have done the last part yet. But I'm sure you have and I'd love to compare notes. I want to do some parent stuff like playing catch, burning cookies, catch me going on weird websites or something. Also I found this symbol from the tower I was hatched in, maybe you can teach me to read it. I live with a bunch of humans and a couple of witches, one of them is very cranky!" said King.
"Hey!" called out Eda.
"But cranky or not she raised me and I recently officially took oner name. making her my mom. Even with her I still want to find you have you be a part of my life!" said King, "I can have room for plenty of parents!"
"You got that right! And if you try to take him away from me I will fight you!" said Eda jumping onto the screen.
"Hey!" said King.
"Wouldn't make sense for that to happen?" asked Eda.
"Maybe…" said King.
Far away a demon that appeared to look like King watched…
Raine watched the two interact… a part of them wishing they could be a part of it.
But the problems that led to their breakup were more than likely still there…
Still they were friends and Raine knew despite everything she had their back… and Raine knew that whatever Belos was planning.
Also Raine couldn't help but to feel they dodged a giant bullet thanks to Lilith's help.
Next Time: IT's time for another school dance! But this time it's no shapeshifting monster that turn into fears. Both Amity and Ochaco work up the courage to ask out their crushes but when the school dance causes one of the worst demons on the Boiling Idles to show up, it will be up to the two to save their dates. What will happen? Find out next time!
A/N: Okay so the actual events of Knock, Knock, Knockin on Hooty's Door won't happen exactly like canon (as the chapter previews shows with the next chapter), though Eda's story will happen almost the same as canon (different cause for the sleeping nettles)... though it's going to be an off screen C Plot as it happens in her head so makes sense it's off screen. Also if you're worried I'm not having Darius and Eberwolf be good guys, don't worry it will be in a few chapters but I do plan to show they are on the side of good. So yeah... hope you enjoy chapters when I write them...
