Jamie felt refreshed. He hadn't had a decent night's sleep in a while. Now that Sadie was sleeping mostly through the night, it was getting easier to get back into a routine. He thought he even had a bounce in his step. But that could just be the coffee talking too. He smiled at Marina as he picked up a chart from the rack. She smiled back at him.

"Good morning, Doctor Reagan. You are in a good mood this morning."

Jamie nodded before he had a look at the chart in front of him.

"I am. Sadie is mostly sleeping through the night now, the rest of the kids are happier than they have been where they used to go to school before, my wife and I are getting time together and our nights with each other again. Ok, let's see who our first patient of the day is: Sarah Martins. She hasn't been in for a checkup since her first trimester. She's complaining of nausea and vomiting for the last week. You've got her set up and comfortable in room 6?"

Marina nodded her head and led the way.

"She's also complaining of belly pain."

The frown stayed plastered on Jamie's face and he looked through the chart, then closing it as he and Marina came up to the door of room 6. He knocked on the door and waited for Sarah's response.

"Come in."

Slowly opening up the door, Jamie put his professional mask on and smiled at Sarah.

"Hi Sarah. It's been some time since we've seen you. Your last checkup was 5 weeks ago. You missed it."

Sarah fidgeted in the bed and picked at the iv in her arm.

"I've been managing on my own. Except for the last week. I've been throwing up all the time and the nausea is awful. This can't be good for the baby."

Jamie nodded and flipped through to the third page of Sarah's chart.

"No. Since your prone to diabetes, I'd like to get a glucose level from you. Marina here will be quick. I promise."

Sarah lies her head back against the pillow and looked away.

"I hate needles."

Jamie gave a small smile.

"I don't like them either."

Sarah gave Jamie a look and winced.

"Ouch. But you're a doctor. Doctors aren't supposed to be afraid of needles."

Shaking his head once more, Jamie took a look at the meter Marina held towards him.

"92. Normal."

Furrowing his eyebrows, Jamie reached for Sarah's wrist on her right hand and started taking her pulse. As he did, he made conversation with her.

"You mentioned to Marina that you're having some belly pain? What does the pain feel like? Is it sharp? Does it come and go?"

Sarah shifted and blew out a breath.

"There it is again. It comes and goes. Am I having contractions?"

Sarah's husband Carl took this moment to speak.

"Doctor Reagan, it's too soon. Our baby girl isn't ready to be born yet. She's too little."

Jamie took a seat on the rolling stool and pulled it up to the bed. Reassuring her was the best he could do. He didn't want her to panic.

"I want to put you on a monitor for a few hours to make sure you haven't gone into preterm labor. You are right at the line, 29 weeks where it's a 50/50 chance."

Sarah started to cry. It was Carl who voiced his opinion.

"What are you saying Doctor Reagan?"

Jamie remained professional and again reassured the couple.

"We're going to monitor Sarah for the next few hours to make sure she isn't having contractions. If she is, we can give her something to stop them. If that doesn't work, we're looking at a possible C-section. I'll only perform a C-section if it's absolutely necessary."

Sarah nodded and looked up at the ceiling. She just wanted everything to be ok with her baby.

"So, my baby is going to be ok?"

Jamie spread his hands and stood up from the stood pushing it away slightly.

"I will do everything I can to make sure you and your baby are ok. I'm going to have Marina here place this band around your belly so we can monitor your baby alright?"

Sarah looked a bit apprehensive but nodded.

"So, this machine is going to tell me how my baby is doing."

Jamie nodded and pointed to the band that was now secured around her belly.

"Yes. It's monitoring the baby's heartbeat. The baby's heartbeat is 160. Perfectly normal and healthy. I'll let you get some rest. I'll be back to check on you soon. Get some rest."

Sarah nodded and her husband Carl leaned in and kissed her forehead.

"It's ok baby. Everything is going to be ok. I promise."

Jamie and Eddie sat in the children services office on E 97th street. Janet Marlinson sat across from them at a very crowded desk with case files on them. Looking her straight in the eye, he asked his question.

"Was there something wrong with our application? Did we not pass the home inspection?"

A smile tugged at Janet's lips, and she shook her head at the couple.

"Oh no. Of course not. It's nothing like that. It's quite the opposite actually."

She motioned for someone to come in through the open door behind Jamie and Eddie. Eddie was the first to turn around and then Jamie. Her eyes widened as she saw two women enter the room. One with a car seat and another with Liam in her arms. The woman who had Liam safely tucked away in her arms gently placed him into Eddie's. She smiled warmly at Jamie and Eddie.

"Congratulations mom and dad! It's a boy!"

Eddie smiled at the woman whose name was Gracie. She had no words. Liam cooed at Eddie as she leaned down to place several kisses to the crown of his head. Jamie shook hands with each woman.

"Thank you so much. All of you."

Janet was the one to speak.

"We know Liam is going to a good a loving home. Have a good life little guy."

The Reagan family home was filled with tons of things for Liam. A welcome home to the family/baby shower. All the kids, Henry, Frank, Erin, Danny, Nicky, Jack, Sean and Joe were all crowded into the sunroom. A banner was strung up over the entrance to the sunroom that read: 'Congratulations! It's a boy! Welcome home Liam!' The front door opened and in came Jamie and Eddie with Liam who was beginning to fuss. The couple along with Liam entered the sunroom and everyone beamed while speaking in unison.

"Congratulations!"

Jamie flashed his 100-watt smile and carefully placed Liam's pacifier in his mouth and he quickly quieted. Henry was the first to speak.

"Welcome to the family Liam. Welcome home. Now. Who's ready to open his baby shower gifts?"

Jamie and Eddie smiled at one another and touched foreheads. Jamie spoke to Eddie in a whisper.

"I couldn't ask for a more perfect moment or day."

Eddie reciprocated.

"I can't either. I love you."
