On Tuesday, May 5th, 1992, Harry, Amy, Susan, Hannah, Sirius, Remus, Amelia, and Heather were just getting ready for a Care of Magical Creatures lesson when Heather gave the Yellow Quartet an incentive.
"Harry, Amy, Susan, and Hannah, " piped up Heather, "If the Yellow Quartet can be successful at our first lesson today, then they will get a monetary reward for it. Either way, I will give the Yellow Quartet the rest of the day off after this lesson. "
Harry, Amy, Susan, and Hannah all smiled at Heather.
"I want to make this part clear," said Heather seriously, "Everyone is getting the rest of the day off after the lesson regardless of the outcome. I've been working you very hard lately. You all need to take some rest, relaxation, and take it easy time and I need that rest, relaxation, and take it easy time myself. I also don't have any lessons planned for the day after this one anyway. The rest of the day off is a given. The reward for success in this lesson will be that the more successful you are, the higher your monetary reward will be."
Harry, Amy, Susan, Hannah, Sirius, Remus, and Amelia all followed Heather outside where four fluffy, black, long snouted creatures were sitting at the edge of the lawn.
"Nifflers!" recognized Susan and Hannah at once.
"I borrowed these nifflers from Hagrid through Professor Sprout, " explained Heather, "I'll be sending them back after our lesson. I wanted to give the Yellow Quartet some practical exposure to nifflers. Susan and Hannah already know of course, but I'd like for Harry and Amy to observe them up close. "
"How do we succeed at the lesson then?" Harry asked Heather curiously.
"Nifflers are attracted to shiny objects, " explained Heather, "Which is why they should NEVER BE kept in a house or as a pet. I've buried forty galleons in the lawn. Each of the four of you gets to keep any galleons your niffler finds. Nifflers are known as treasure detectors and are found down mines."
Harry, Amy, Susan, and Hannah each walked up to the row of nifflers and each of them declared the niffler next to him or her his or hers. Heather removed the Stillness Charms she'd placed on them, and they were off.
The nifflers dived in and out of the lawn as though it were water and brought the galleons back to the people who had set them loose.
Harry's niffler was especially effective and his hands were soon full of galleons.
At the end of one hour, Heather yelled, "Time's up. Let's count how many galleons there are between the four of you. Harry, you clearly have the most."
"It was a really fun lesson seeing the nifflers in live action, " said Harry in a satisfied voice.
Heather counted Harry's galleons and he ended up with twenty two galleons. Amy, Susan, and Hannah, ended up with six each.
"You've found all forty, " declared Heather happily, "They are yours to keep. And remember that I already promised you the rest of the day off either way."
"Heather, may I make a request?" asked Harry.
"Of course, Harry!" replied Heather warmly.
"Could you bring out some lawn chairs and lemonade?" requested Harry.
"That's a lovely idea on this lovely seventy seven degree day!" beamed Heather, "Topsy."
The house elf appeared outside.
"Yes, mistress Heather?"
"Could you please retrieve eight lawn chairs and eight bottles of lemonade and bring them out here?" Heather asked Topsy.
"Yes, Mistress Heather!" beamed Topsy.
Topsy went back inside and was back in a minute and a nanosecond with the requested lawn chairs and lemonade. Topsy, without being prompted, set up the lawn chairs himself and handed Harry, Amy, Susan, Hannah, Sirius, Remus, Amelia, and Heather one bottle of lemonade each.
Harry, Amy, Susan, and Hannah, who wore vivid yellow tee shirts with paler yellow shorts on this day, all took them off and decided to go naked for a while.
It was a warm, pleasant, relaxing feeling for Harry, Amy, Susan, and Hannah to just sit outside on a nice day sitting naked in lawn chairs sipping lemonade.
Sometimes, it was good to just have a day of relaxation and not do much, they'd all been very busy lately and just taking a day to mostly relax made them all feel better and fresher.
A few hours later, when they were back inside and the Yellow Quartet had their clothes back on, Amy, Susan, Hannah, Sirius, Remus, Amelia and Heather all observed Harry sending Hedwig off with an order form.
A few hours after that, when it was almost bedtime, Hedwig returned and dropped collections of yellow hair styling tools that included straightening tools, curling tools, and hair dryers into Susan's and Hannah's hands and a beautiful photo book with a large collection of dog photos of every breed you could think of into Amy's hands.
"Since I won significantly more galleons than Amy, Susan, or Hannah, I used some of my extra winnings to buy gifts for Amy, Susan, and Hannah," explained Harry.
"Wow, Harry, you are very kind and generous, " said Amelia respectfully.
"And thoughtful, " added Heather, "Harry got Amy, Susan, and Hannah exactly the kind of gifts they will like and appreciate."
"James and Lily would be very proud of the kind of person Harry is, " said Remus proudly.
"So are we, " added Sirius as Remus, Heather, and Amelia nodded.
"So," said Harry matter of factly, "I know Susan and Hannah are really into doing their hair and such and the hair tools they have are old and worn down. Plus, I thought they'd appreciate having yellow hair tools to do their hair with."
"Very!" grinned Susan and Hannah together.
"Thanks a lot, Harry, " said Susan glowingly "You didn't have to spend your extra winnings on us, but you did. It was really kind of you to spend that money on gifts for us that you knew would be up our alley."
"Yes, thank you very much Harry, " said Hannah radiantly, "I'm really looking forward to using my yellow hair tools and I know Susan feels the same way!"
"Bingo!" replied Susan.
"I know that Amy isn't much into doing her hair like Susan and Hannah are, " said Harry matter of factly.
"Maybe it has to do with my being an albino, maybe doing my hair just isn't my thing, " said Amy matter of factly, "But I've always preferred to just keep straight short hair and not do much with it."
"But " grinned Harry, "I know how fond you are of dogs, and I thought a book of dog pictures would make a nice gift for you."
"You thought right, " grinned Amy, "It just shows how thoughtful you are that you knew that the gift Susan and Hannah would want wouldn't appeal to me and so thought of a separate gift for me. Thank You, Harry."
"It warms my insides to see the looks of joy on the faces of Amy, Susan, and Hannah right now, " said Harry warmly.
It was a nice moment. Harry Potter truly was a wonderful friend to his friends.
