The Final Test VI
Aqua looked around, seeing nothing but battle around her, fellow Keyblade Wielders engaging each other in brutal competition that she did not want to be part of. "…I can't be here."
She turned to leave, only making it several feet before coming to a stop in front of someone else she knew. "…Invi."
The snake Foreteller Invi turned and faced her. "I am sorry for dragging you into this. I'll make this quick."
Grunting in frustration, Aqua could only prepare herself for another fight.
This was not good.
Invi had been the first Foreteller Aqua had faced and she had barely managed to land so much as a scratch on her. It hadn't helped that Invi was an expert in magic, even more so than Aqua and rivaling even Master Xehanort.
(Kingdom Hearts II OST The 13th Struggle)
Invi started by teleporting right in front of Aqua, her Keyblade already swinging through the air. Aqua managed to block and stepped back.
"Serpent's Illusion." Invi said calmly, holding up her Keyblade.
Orbs of elemental energy appeared and rotated around her Keyblade as she was lifted off the ground. Invi pointed the orbs at Aqua and she immediately found herself facing a literal bombardment.
BOOM-BOOM-BOOM-BOOM!
BOOM-BOOM-BOOM-BOOM!
BOOM-BOOM-BOOM-BOOM!
Invi landed back on the ground and calmly waited for the smoke to clear. She looked a little surprised to see a circular energy barrier with strange symbols with a pentagram in the center. Behind the barrier, Aqua blinked as purple colored star shaped glyph appeared under her feet, and she could literally hear the name of the hearts who were assisting her
Ruby…
Weiss…
Blake…
Yang…
Ven...
Elsa…
Glynda…
Whomever this Glynda was, she seemed to be really strong. Instinctively knowing what do next, pointing her Keyblade at Invi, Aqua let loose a barrage of purple colored energy bolts at Invi, forcing her back.
"Serpent's Illusion!"
BOOM-BOOM-BOOM-BOOM!
BOOM-BOOM-BOOM-BOOM!
BOOM-BOOM-BOOM-BOOM!
Invi cast another spell, her signature Serpent's Illusion that collided with Aqua's attack, both spells cancelling each other out. Invi glided through the smoke, swinging her Keyblade at Aqua who ducked, allowing Invi to sail over her.
Lea…
A fiery orange star glyph appeared next and when Aqua swung her Keyblade, it exploded in flames, sending Invi flying back. The Foreteller's robes remained undamaged, and it was hard to tell if she had suffered any damage at all. Invi cast another Serpent's Illusion, peppering Aqua with fire, conjuring a literal tornado around her, freezing her for a quick second and shocking her with a bolt of lightning.
BLAST!
WHOOSH!
SHINK!
ZAP!
"GAH!" Aqua's Aura flared, struggling to block the sheer power of the spell.
Invi's spell was not only advanced since it used four elements at once, but it was also powerful. Aqua felt jealous that Invi could use all four elements at once which Aqua had yet to do but now was not the time.
Another star shaped glyph appeared, the one whitish blue.
Namine…
"Heal!" Aqua called out, healing herself and even restoring her stamina.
Narrowing her eyes, Invi held her Keyblade over her head. "Ice Sphere!"
A blue light surrounded her Keyblade and began to twist and change, forming into solid matter. Aqua's eyes widened as a large sphere of ice hovered over Invi. The Foreteller pointed her Keyblade at Aqua and the Ice Sphere followed its movements, shooting off at Aqua like a cannonball. Aqua teleported out of the way, barely avoiding the ice sphere smashing into the ground with enough force a crater was formed.
Aqua teleported behind Invi, pointing her Keyblade at the Foreteller's back. "Fire!"
"Flame Shield!" Invi called out.
A literal force field of fire surrounded Invi, blocking Aqua's attack. However, when the attack collided, the shield dispelled.
Not that Invi needed to worry as she spun and pointed her free hand at Aqua. "Electri-Spear!"
From her hand shot a spear made of electricity right at Aqua who quickly blocked with her Keyblade. Invi easily closed the distance between them, sneaking her Keyblade under Aqua's guard while she had been blocking the electric spear and slashed across Aqua's torso.
"Gah!" Her Aura shimmered and nearly broke.
She knew from experience that Aura could barely hold against the Keyblade unless someone's reserves were higher than usual. Aqua stepped back, dodging another slash that missed her nose by mere inches.
"Pathi-Flare!"
Suddenly, Invi flew off in another direction, hurled through the air and landing several yards away.
"Didn't expect that, did you?" Aqua asked.
It's been years since she last saw the Foretellers and while she wasn't sure how much she might have improved in comparison to them, she still managed to create and master a number of new spells that she hadn't used since the last time she had faced them.
"I'm impressed, Ava." She heard Invi speak. "Perhaps you were right about this one." Invi then dismissed her Keyblade and turned away. "You must make it through this."
"And what is this?" Aqua asked. "Is this the Keyblade War?"
"Keyblade War?" Invi echoed softly. "I suppose that is an apt name for it."
Invi walked off, strolling through the battlefield and vanishing from sight, leaving Aqua behind as the battles around her continued and the rain continued to fall. Aqua lowered her Keyblade, panting from fighting both Aced and Invi in short order and she didn't believe the fighting was over by a long shot. From the corner of her vision, she spied something fly past her and ascend up into the dark clouded sky.
'A heart?' She wondered with a confused glance.
"Hey, it's you."
She looked forward and saw another Foreteller, Gula standing before her. As he approached, more hearts were rising into the sky.
"You don't look so good. Are you okay?" Gula asked, holding his Keyblade over his shoulder.
"That's a funny question to ask, given that you're probably about to fight me." Aqua replied warily.
Gula shrugged. "All right. Here we go."
"Why are we doing this?" Aqua asked, gripping her Keyblade with both hands.
"You're on a battlefield. You've got to fight." Gula answered as if it were obvious.
Was that all the reason they needed?
SLASH-SLASH-SLASH!
SLASH-SLASH-SLASH!
SLASH-SLASH-SLASH!
SLASH-SLASH-SLASH!
Before Aqua could even blink, Gula had disappeared, becoming a golden blur that slashed her a dozen times, moving from all directions seemingly at same time. Aqua didn't even have a chance to shout in surprise or pain from the attack as the last attack knocked her off her feet.
…Namine!
The whitish blue glyph appeared under her, healing her and even restoring her Aura that was just about to break. Aqua landed on her feet and summoned a golden bright glyph.
Hercules!
With the glyph came the divine aura that protected her as she landed perfectly on her feet. Gula aimed to strike again but to his surprise, his Keyblade bounced off of Aqua's glowing form.
"Huh?!"
Lea!
With the fiery orange glyph appearing next, Aqua lasted Gula back much like he had done with her. Gula landed on his feet and clashed his Keyblade with Aqua's. The two warriors clashed their mystic weapons back and forth and were seemingly equal, but Gula was faster. All it took was one misstep and Gula landed a strike that forced Aqua back.
"Gah!" Aqua cried out, her Aura glowing.
Just as Gula prepared to strike again, another glyph appeared.
This one was colored bronze red.
Sora!
Suddenly Aqua's speed increased, and she was able to strike back, delivering a series of slashes that forced Gula back.
SLASH-SLASH-SLASH!
SLASH-SLASH-SLASH!
SLASH-SLASH-SLASH!
SLASH-SLASH-SLASH!
"Gah!" Gula was knocked into the air, shocked by how fast Aqua had become but he managed to recover and land on his feet.
Elsa!
Ice formed along the ground, reaching Gula and started traveling up his feet. Gula swung his Keyblade down, shattering the ice and sending lightning through the ice-covered ground back at Aqua who cartwheeled out of the way.
As she landed on her feet, another glyph appeared, this one being electric blue.
Cloud!
Glowing spectral Keyblades surrounded Aqua, and she pointed them at Gula. The glowing weapons shot forward at Gula who quickly jumped, ducked and even rolled out of the way of each one.
A pink one, brighter in shade compared to the glyph representing Neo, appeared under Aqua's feet.
Kairi!
Aqua shot forward, becoming a dash of light that struck Gula before he could react, making him grunt and stagger, falling on one knee for one moment.
(Kingdom Hearts II OST The 13th Struggle Ends)
He took a deep breath and stood up. "You're a lot tougher than I thought! Lucky for you, I'm not in the mood for a real fight!"
He didn't consider this a real fight?
"Maybe I'll see you around." Gula said before vanishing.
Aqua fell to her knees this time, panting in exhaustion. She looked around, seeing the fighting between the other Wielders continuing and hearts continuing to rise into the sky.
'Are those the hearts of the fallen warriors?' Aqua wondered to herself.
She was so exhausted that she actually fell over and was about to lose consciousness…
SHINK!
SHINK!
SHINK!
SHINK!
SHINK!
SHINK!
SHINK!
Aqua lifted her head and saw Keyblades embedding themselves into the ground around her.
'What am I thinking?' Aqua shook her head and got back up. 'I can't fall asleep in the middle of a battlefield.'
Just as she stood up, a familiar robed figure stepped through the numerous fallen weapons that were now embedded in the ground.
"So, it's you." Ira stated stoically. "I'll be merciful."
(Kingdom Hearts II Organization XIII)
Ira held up his Keyblade in front his face before making a gesture and Aqua knew what was coming next. A pure white star glyph appeared underneath her feet, forming into a clock with the hands spinning extremely fast.
Nicholas!
Shards of light shot down from above but Aqua was long gone before they could hit her. Ira let out a small gasp as Aqua moved as fast as a literal lightning bolt, delivering a slash across his torso, Ira not even registering what happened until a few seconds later. He spun around, slashing at Aqua but she was moving even faster, parrying his Keyblade and delivering a few slashes that he just barely managed to block, albeit sloppily.
Another blue glyph appeared, this one navy blue.
Isa!
A blue flaming aura surrounded Aqua, her eyes glowing, her hair becoming manic and she could have sworn she felt fangs growing in her teeth but had no time to think as she landed three-hit combos on Ira, forcing him back.
A black glyph appeared now.
Qrow!
Just as Ira was about to attack, he had to stop and dodge more Keyblades falling from the sky, embedding themselves into the ground with enough force that Ira would have been skewered if he had been hit.
SHINK!
SHINK!
SHINK!
SHINK!
SHINK!
SHINK!
SHINK!
'Just how in the world could that have happened just as I was about to make my move?' Ira thought to himself with a surprised face.
Aqua was a little confused herself but had no intention of letting up as a shining yellow glyph appeared next.
Jaune!
She raised her Keyblade as a white light surrounded it along with a pale yellow star glyph appearing under her feet. She let out a battle cry as she swung her Keyblade down and released crescent shaped wave of white blinding light that struck Ira as he raised his Keyblade to block, sending him skidding back several yards before the energy dissipated, but Ira was left panting from holding it off with just his Keyblade.
(Kingdom Hearts Organization XIII Ends)
"You've grown." Ira admitted, leaning forward for a moment before he stood up straight. "It's a shame, you have so much potential."
Ira raised his Keyblade…and then spun around to block another Keyblade just as it swung at his back.
"I've been waiting for this moment, Ira." The one behind the attempted sneak attack was none other than Aced.
"You!" Ira grunted.
"I will rebuild this world as the new leader and Master!" Aced declared.
Ira shoved Aced's Keyblade back. "This is all your doing! You destroyed the balance!"
Ira lunged at Aced, both of them dashing through the battlefield and leaving Aqua behind. Aqua could only shake her head as the two left to fight each other again. Given her friendships with Terra and Ven, she couldn't fathom how two Keyblade Wielders would fight each other so aggressively like Ira and Aced did and from the sound of it over something as petty as blame. She would have tried to move and find a way out but at this point she knew there was no way out unless she finished facing all the Foretellers.
And that meant only one more was left.
Aqua didn't have to wait long before she literally appeared before her. "Ava."
Ava didn't respond in the same friendly manner as when Aqua first met, only speaking in a cold and stoic manner. "It's you."
"I knew I would find you." Aqua responded. "Ava, what is happening? Is this the Keyblade War? Why are you and the other Foretellers fighting?"
Ava didn't answer. She only raised her Keyblade and pointed it right at Aqua, informing Aqua right away of her intent.
"Ready your blade." Ava instructed.
"Why? I am not supposed to be part of this." Aqua questioned, shaking her head.
Ava made a slash through the air in front of her before gripping her Keyblade with both hands. "I won't ask twice."
(Kingdom Hearts III Wave of Darkness)
Realizing that she would have to fight the one Foreteller she considered a friend, Aqua raised her Keyblade for one last fight. Ava started the battle by six clones of herself and all of them dashed at Aqua who smiled.
Neo!
A pink glyph appeared under her feet and in a flash of pink sparkly light, six clones of Aqua appeared, all of them blocking a strike from Ava's clones. Ava looked surprised that Aqua had managed to match her Foxtrot technique. The two Keyblade Wielders, now fourteen clashed back and forth.

Sparks flew.
Clones dispersed into pink glittery lights.
Elemental magic blasted across the battlefield in the form of fiery explosion, tornadoes conjured out of nothing but air, ice sprouting from the ground and lightning called down from the heavens.
Ava jumped back as the last of her clones vanished and held her Keyblade in front of her. Just as Aqua was about take the next strike, her vision began to spin and swirl.
"You've grown very strong, Aqua." Ava admitted as her form became a swirl of colors. "But between us, I am still superior in the art of illusions. Take this for example."
She shot forward and Aqua tried to block-
SLASH!
Aqua cried out as she felt Ava's Keyblade strike her from behind. 'Wha-'
"The ability to not just fool your eyes but to manipulate all your senses at once. This is one such ability." Ava's voice came from…above.
She looked up to see Ava standing…upside down?
Wait, why was the ground upside down too?!
"The ability to completely reverse your senses. Up is down, left is right, back is forward, but it doesn't end there. Your eyesight is reversed, the words you here become backwards and even the temperature is reversed. ?tath tsniaga dants ouy nac woH. ecafrus eht detharcs cigam yranoisulli fo gnidnatsrednu ruoY."
What was she saying?
Was she speaking…backwards?!
Or was Aqua only hearing her speak backwards?
".stradnats ruoy yb lleps cisab a ylno si sihT. siht ekil erom uoy wohs ot devol I, tnereffid neeb dah gnihts fI." Ava then waved her Keyblade and suddenly Aqua was assaulted by freezing cold temperatures, raining turning into ice and she could feel herself starting to literally freeze to death.
Ice began forming around her as she struggled to remain standing.
"What you feel, is the feeling of the temperature reversing from lukewarm temperatures to freezing cold." Ava's voice returned to normal. "If it's too cold for you, how about this? Become Adrift at Sea."
The freezing ice turned into a raging whirlpool of water that engulfed Aqua, forcing her to cover her mouth to keep herself from drowning, even as it became very hard to breathe.
"Must be hard, given your name literally means water." Aqua could still hear Ava's voice through the water. "Perhaps this will dry you off. Flames of Prometheus!"
The water then turned to fire and Aqua cried out as she covered her face, the flames engulfing her even as her Aura struggled to protect her.
"Still alive are we?" Ava's voice grew closer as the flames dispersed. "I'll make this quick and end it right here."
Aqua was panting now, not sure if she had enough Aura or magical reserves to continue this fight but she couldn't end it like this. She had been put through test after test after test and she wanted to know why she had to endure all of this instead of just returning to Remnant to help Oz stop Oberon. As she lifted her head, she watched as Ava raised her Keyblade…
And then one last star glyph appeared under her.
Tai!
Ava brought her Keyblade down but to her surprise, Aqua managed to catch it with one bare hand. If that wasn't enough, golden flames began to emit from her arm as she gripped Ava's Keyblade tightly. Aqua looked up, a stoic glare in her eyes as she stood up. Golden fire danced around her arms, burning away the white bell shaped sleeves and leaving only the armor attached as she let out one final war cry and slammed her fist into Ava, literally knocking the air out of her and sending her flying back.
(Kingdom Hearts III Wave of Darkness Ends)
Ava skidded across the ground, coming to a crashing halt a few yards away. Grunting, Ava managed to slowly stand up but staggered a few times before she managed to heal herself. She looked up to see Aqua slowly approaching her, golden flames still surrounding her.
"I want answers, Ava." Aqua said, stopping a few from the Foreteller. "Why?"
Ava managed to straighten herself. "Some things aren't for you to know." She turned around. "Listen, you must get as far away from here as possible."
With that, Ava walked away and vanished into the battlefield, leaving Aqua to watch…and collapse from sheer exhaustion as the last of her strength finally left her, standing in the center of the very same intersection where she and her friends would confront Xehanort and Vanitas, centuries from now into the future.
In the end, all she could do was lie on the ground, staring up at the sky as the rain continued to fall. Hearts rose into the sky, lightning danced through the dark clouds and the rain fell as the last fires of her Semblance were extinguished before it all went dark.
I thought the world's end would be a horrible sight.
