I appreciate TwinstarDragon's suggestion regarding the previous chapter. I've heard and read your recommendation. The reason this chapter is a little bit shorter because not much was mentioned about the academy other than the fact that they taught genjutsu, ninjutsu, and taijutsu. Additionally, the girls are required to attend kunoichi classes, where they learn about various cultures and how to blend in during an infiltration mission by developing talents like flower arrangement.
When Saturo starts to branch out and stop constantly following in his family's footsteps, the chapters will get significantly lengthier. Since Shikamaru and Shikaku took him in as a member of their family, Saturo has looked up to them, and he fears that he would be shunned by the Nara clan if he does not follow in their footsteps. I hope this clarifies why he is not acting upon some of the things he initially noted. But I will remember what you mentioned regarding Ino Yamanaka and Naruto Uzumaki.
Hearing the loud voices of Sakura Haruno and Ino Yamanaka fighting in the middle of the classroom as soon as Saturo and his brother Shikamaru entered, he was immediately overcome by sound. The loud discussions were causing Kiba Inuzuka's dog, Akamaru, to whine, and Saturo could see that Kiba was sitting at his own desk with his hands covering his ears in an attempt to drown out the noise. Despite keeping a completely blank expression on his face, Sasuke Uchiha also appeared to be growing increasingly irritated. Nevertheless, even though Sasuke was the focus of Sakura and Ino's disputes, the irritation was visible in Sasuke's eyes.
While waiting for class to start, Saturo noticed Shikamaru approaching Choji, who was munching on chips. As Saturo turned to glance around, he saw Shino Aburame sitting far at the back of the class, observing the dispute between Ino and Sakura in complete silence and not drawing any attention to himself.
Saturo moved to the farthest seat from the board, by the window. His gaze landed on Naruto Uzumaki, who had attempted to intervene between Sakura and Ino before to the arrival of Saturo and Shikamaru. The way Naruto was holding his head in agony was a dead giveaway that one of the girls had just physically assaulted him to get him to stop talking. But Saturo wanted to know: Which girl had struck Naruto?
The teacher entered the classroom and demanded all of their attention before Saturo had a chance to ask Naruto. Saturo opened his notepads to jot down some notes. He had already performed this task numerous times, as Shikaku had been imparting to Saturo the fundamentals of the Shinobi countries' history prior to Saturo starting the Shinobi Academy.
While taking notes discreetly, Saturo noted a few things that didn't make sense. Saturo initially believed it was an error, but after taking a couple quick looks at his notes and then back at the teacher, he understood it wasn't a straightforward mishap. A soft voice beside him caused Saturo to turn to his left, where Shino sat.
"You noticed the same thing as I have, correct?" questioned Shino in a low voice so the teacher wouldn't hear you.
"If by 'useful' advise you mean the suggestion to use a lot of chakra in the Clone and Transformation Jutsu? Saturo looked at his notes again, little confused, and said, "Yes, it is not very helpful advice for people that don't come from a clan or a Shinobi family."
Silently, Shino stated, "So I myself have gathered," turning to face the teacher. Unlike Saturo, he didn't take any notes. But since the Aburame clan was composed of intellect-gatherers, Saturo did not deceive himself into believing that Shino did not make mental notes. After a few minutes, Shino whispered, "I think he's doing this for one reason only."
Saturo arched an eyebrow in inquiry before turning to face the teacher and attempting to determine why the teacher had put some people up for failure. It took him many minutes to learn that Naruto Uzumaki was occasionally the target of the teacher's glare.
"It's Uzumaki, isn't it?" Saturo asked, turning to face Shino again. "The teacher doesn't want him to graduate, so he tries to hold Uzumaki back even if he has to fail other students."
Shino silently nodded, not saying anything, but Saturo was making the connection between the unspoken words fast enough that Shino didn't need to. Although it was well known that Naruto Uzumaki was the Nine-Tailed Fox's vessal, it appeared that only Naruto was ignorant of this truth, meaning that things in class had just gotten much more complicated.
Saturo muttered to himself, "Troublesome," not realizing that Shino was hiding a small smirk. When Shino heard the extremely familiar term used by Shikamaru and the Head of the Nara clan: Shikaku Nara, all doubts he may have had about Saturo being raised by the Nara clan at least vanished at that precise instant.
Flipping his notebook all the way to the back, Saturo began jotting down notes about the correct facts behind the Clone and Transformation jutsu, rather than anything to do with class. Shino took note and leaned in gradually. "Add how to train one's chakra, like tree climbing and water walking," said Shino.
When Saturo heard that, he gave Shino a quick look, but he chose to comply with Shino's request. But given how the teacher was treating Naruto Uzumaki, Saturo began to wonder if the academy had turned into a haven for resentment.
Shifting slightly, Shino muttered softly, "At the very least, you don't turn a blind eye to this." With interest, Saturo cast a quick glance at Shino. "Shikamaru usually sleeps in class, so he doesn't notice anything is wrong except when he complains about Ino's loud voice," stated Shino.
Gradually, Saturo nodded. "It seems like something Shikamaru would do. For him, getting engaged would be too problematic. I'm not Shikamaru, though," Saturo remarked.
While Saturo was listening to the teacher, Shino gave him a barely perceptible nod. Under his cool mask, Shino couldn't help but feel a small amount of curiosity. Something told him that Saturo would soon undergo a breeze of change, for which some people might not be ready. Shino made the decision to observe the young Nara closely in order to learn more about him and determine what had piqued his curiosity about Saturo.
