Lily Potter sat in her sunroom chair. Her beloved flowers filled every square inch of her little sunroom. She was surrounded by an enormous assortment of plants, just as she had wanted. But after Harry vanished, not even lilies, roses, fire lilies, and chocolate cosmos could make up for the void in her heart. She sighed and covered her protruding stomach with her palm as she sipped her tea. She had six children total. She had Ryan after the twins Harry and Andrew, and Oliva and Orion after Ryan. There would be a younger daughter involved now.
Harry Potter, her first child, has been on her mind on multiple occasions throughout the years, so this isn't the first time. Where had he gone? Is he alright? Whoever has him, is he being held prisoner? What could be preventing her from learning his whereabouts? Over time, her concerns have only gotten worse. She has experienced multiple insomniac nights and, on the occasions when she did fall asleep, nightmares followed her everywhere.
She would not have married James Potter if she had known what she knew now. Lily lowered her teacup; she could no longer taste it. She usually loves tea just as much as the next person, but these last six years haven't been kind to her. She was stuck wedded to James; no one had informed her that divorce had never been a possibility in the Wizarding World.
Lily gave herself a shake. Her retrospective analysis of what might have happened and how I could have handled things better wasn't helpful. Lily got to her feet in her sunroom and surveyed her flowers, which had provided her with so much solace in the past. Now, when she thought about Harry, the sole child who had her green eyes, all the bright hues were lifeless and drab, much like her heart felt.
"No," Lily angrily told herself. "Stop complaining about this." Lily reassured herself, "I know he's alive; Gringotts have never been wrong when they say the heir is still alive despite what James says," and she carried her cup into the kitchen. The house elves were never truly used by her for purposes such as this. She could wash it herself; it was just one cup.
"House Elves!" Lily gasped in self-discovery. Those little creatures would know where Harry was, without a doubt. They were connected by magic to every member of the family; she had forgotten about that for the past six years! So close to home, the solution had always been there in front of her! As neither of them had said anything, it was safe to assume that Harry was safe and secure, wherever he might be. Lily touched her forehead and gave herself a self-loathing sigh. With this knowledge, the fatigue of her search finally caught up with her.
Lily said to herself, "No," even if she could use the house elf to win her son Harry back. She refused to confine Harry in this household, as she had been trapped for a long time. If Harry was genuinely content in his current location, then why would she—a complete stranger to him despite being his biological mother—take him from his current residence?
Lily can still recall James' constant rage whenever they brought up Harry. Despite the fact that Harry was the older of the two by just one hour, he felt that Harry had taken Andrew's heirship, so he didn't want his son back. To be honest, Harry felt much safer outside of Potter Manor and away from his biological father, James Potter. The House Elves must have known this as well, which is why they kept quiet about their knowledge of Harry's whereabouts in order to protect the heir.
Lily whirled around and shouted, "Winky," holding her hands in front of her breast as she saw the Potter Manor's Head of the House Elves materialize in front of her. "Winky, let me ask you a few things. If you choose not to respond, you are not required to."
Winky tilted her head to the side. Lily had never called a house elf before, much less the one that led the family's house elves. If Lily is doing this, it must be something significant.
With composure, Lily asked, "I need to ask, Winky. Do you know where my son, Harry Potter, is?"
"Winky knows where the heir is." Winky spoke first, her voice tremulous. Winky said, "But she doesn't want to take him away from his second family," and she was worried about getting in trouble for keeping something so significant a secret.
Lily gently comforted Winky, kneeling down to be on an eye level with the House Elf, saying, "I am not asking you to take him away from there." Winky gave Lily a startled look. "I just needed to know that he was content and safe. I agree with your decision to keep him with the people that adopted him as family, and I know that bringing him back here is not a good idea," Lily comforted Winky.
"Within the new family, the young heir is completely safe. The young heir is to receive his education in a place known as an academy. There, he met someone who appeared to have a connection with the young heir. His brilliance is immense." Not wanting to reveal too much about Harry Potter's whereabouts, Winky said, "He also has a great mind and can snap things up quickly."
Lily pays attention to what Winky says, making an effort to comprehend what she says. Even though she couldn't see it for herself, she was glad to hear that Harry was attending school and appeared to have at least gained her intelligence.
Rising from the floor, Lily entered her husband's office, cautiously peering in to make sure no one was there before going in. When she saw that no one was there at the moment, Lily went in. She quickly located what she was searching for, removed the small ring box from James's desk, and made her way back to Winky.
Lily knelt down again to meet Winky's level, saying, "Winky, can you do me a favor that neither James nor Andrew can get to know about?"
As Winky gazed curiously at the small box in Lily's fingers, she made the pledge, "Winky will try her best."
"This is the heir ring," Lily said, extending the box to encompass Winky, the house elf. James has been attempting to force it on Andrew every year, but each time, Andrew has been rejected as the family heir. Harry Potter—or whatever name he was given after his adoption—rightfully owns this ring. Since Harry is the Potter family's heir, I want you to deliver it to him and tell the family that it is legally his."
