Once dinner was over, I ran right upstairs to my room and shut the door.
I couldn't believe the news Uncle Jesse had just said about going on a tour.
Why would he want to do that before a friend of DJ's has a birthday party coming up? I didn't understand that. If Uncle Jesse never showed up before the birthday party starts, it wouldn't be fair DJ's friends would miss out on seeing him as well.
I laid down on my bed once I slammed the door.
I heard Joey say, "She didn't take that too well, Jesse."
"I know. She'll get over it," Uncle Jesse told him.
Yeah, right.
"Do you want me to try talking with her?" DJ asked.
"Maybe she'll listen to you more, DJ," Joey told her.
"Okay. I'll see what I can do, but I don't mind doing the dishes first," I heard her say.
"That's all right, DJ. You can make up for it tomorrow night. Stephanie will do it instead," Daddy replied.
Then I heard everyone pick up the dishes and put them in the sink and Stephanie would do it. Now I heard DJ come upstairs and knock on my door.
"Go away," I said.
I didn't want to talk yet, just wanted to be alone for a while longer.
"Come on, Michelle. It's just me," she said.
I finally got up from my bed and let my sister in.
"Michelle, I didn't know Uncle Jesse had plans to have a tour before Dawn's birthday. I guess he decided to wait for a while," DJ told me.
"He won't be there at your friend's party in time, DJ," I replied, trying to stop crying.
"He'll try, Michelle, but you know how it is when you can't keep a promise like that," DJ said.
"I know. He hasn't done one of those in a while," I said.
"I know, but I guess his manager didn't know about a birthday party coming up. The tickets are on the way to Maine, so she might not be able to get the mail herself and get the tickets without Mary Anne around to watch her ruin the surprise," DJ said.
"I guess. How did you and Mary Anne talk about getting together?" I asked.
"It was planned out for a while, I guess. Mary Anne sent an e – mail so that way Dawn wouldn't be there to see what we were talking about," DJ answered.
"Why did she move to Maine?" I asked.
"I thought I already told you, Michelle. I don't need to repeat it," DJ told me.
She made sense, I noticed.
"Thank you for not repeating, DJ," I replied.
"Do you want to come downstairs again and we could probably watch TV together?" she asked.
"I don't think so. Have you done your homework yet?" I asked her.
I was calming down a bit, but still disappointed in Uncle Jesse.
"Don't be too disappointed with Uncle Jesse, Michelle," DJ said.
"I'll try not to, but right now I am for a while," I said.
I had a good point about DJ and her homework.
"I'm not going to bed yet since it's still a bit early, but you don't need to tell me when to do my homework, Michelle," DJ told me.
"I know," I replied.
We talked for a bit longer until we heard somebody knock on the door.
"I'll get it," I said, getting off the bed for a second time.
"I don't mind it, Michelle. I'm closer than you are," DJ said.
"I know you don't mind, but go ahead," I said as I watched my sister answer the door.
I saw it was Stephanie.
"Everything okay here?" Stephanie asked.
"Yes, Stephanie. We're just talking about Dawn's birthday party in Disneyland and Uncle Jesse's tour," DJ told her.
"I thought you didn't bother talking about Uncle Jesse's tour," Stephanie told her.
"I didn't expect to either, but it came up," DJ replied.
"Don't you have homework?" Stephanie asked.
"Michelle already mentioned it. I don't need either of you to remind me or tell me when to do my homework," DJ said to Stephanie.
"Are you both done talking?" Stephanie asked.
"I think so. How about you, Michelle?" DJ asked.
"Yes, for now," I answered, still trying to calm down a bit more.
"Good. I need to get my homework done," Stephanie told us.
"Good luck with that," I told them.
"I have a science test next Wednesday," Stephanie replied.
"I bet. I don't have any homework," I told her.
"Of course you don't. Maybe you can go downstairs and watch some cartoons. I guess DJ has some tests also," Stephanie said.
"No, I don't. Just writing some papers is all," DJ said.
"Not fun," Stephanie said as I joined DJ and go downstairs.
I didn't want to be around while they went to study for whatever they had to do.
I saw Joey sitting on the couch with Uncle Jesse talking, but I don't know what it was.
"You feeling better, Michelle?" Joey asked.
"A little bit," I answered.
"But you better be back before the birthday party in Disneyland, Uncle Jesse," I told him.
They didn't have the TV on, but I thought they did when I was coming downstairs.
"Michelle, you know there's no promises," Uncle Jesse said to me.
"I know," I said as he got up from the couch and gave me a hug.
"Stephanie told me to come down here and watch cartoons since she has something to do for homework," I replied.
"All right. You can watch a couple of cartoons. Jesse and I aren't watching anything," Joey said.
"I thought you were since you're sitting on the couch," I told Joey.
"You're all right, Michelle," Uncle Jesse said.
"Come on, Jesse. Let's go somewhere else and let Michelle watch her cartoons," Joey said as they got up from the couch.
"Let's go to my room then," Uncle Jesse replied.
"Sounds good to me," Joey said as he led the way.
Now I can decide on what cartoons I want to watch.
