A/N: At the end of chapter 106, Heather mentions that the school clubs will meet on Halloween 1992 between breakfast and lunch. That content was never originally written and I'm backfilling it now. This is this first of four chapters showing these club meetings with Harry's, Amy's, Susan's, and Hannah's club meetings each getting individual chapters. The other three chapters are still to be written. I will then also add another Halloween chapter involving the whole school so that it bookends the chapter before this one. Since I last updated it, Harry Potter and the Yellow Quartet has exceeded the milestone of 300000 views and currently stands at 302863. Thank you to everyone responsible for Harry Potter and the Yellow Quartet reaching this wonderful milestone. 💕
When Harry, Cedric, Scott, Anthony, Katsumi, and Heidi in the Broom Club Room, they were greeted by a cheerful Sirius and a standard looking broomstick at each of the place settings on the table. To the right of each of these broomsticks was a paintbrush and a set of watercolor paints.
"So," grinned Sirius, "I thought that for our Halloween meeting the six of you could make Halloween themed broomsticks using watercolor paints. I will be observing you all as you work on creating these Halloween themed broomsticks with watercolor paint. You may begin."
Harry, Cedric, Scott, Anthony, Katsumi, and Heidi all eagerly got to work and by the time they had all finished, six unique Halloween themed broomsticks were present.
"Wow, Harry," said a surprised and impressed sounding Sirius, "A purple background with black cauldrons is not what I was expecting from any of you, but it's fantastic!"
"Thank you, Sirius," said Harry sincerely, "I really like the idea of thinking of purple as a Halloween color. I chose to do cauldron themed broomstick in honor of my BFF Amy Alworth, who loves Potions. I will be presenting this broomstick to Amy as a gift."
"Aww, Harry, that's so sweet," cooed Heidi
"I take Amy is in Potions Club then?" guessed Cedric.
"Indeed," confirmed Harry, "Her clubmate Ernie MacMillian is bringing in vintage Cauldrons to certain club meetings throughout the year and I know Amy is thoroughly enjoying that. Amy has mixed feelings about Ernie because she does not like his less than humble personality. But she is very appreciative of the fact that Ernie is sharing his vintage cauldron collection with the rest of Potions Club."
"Just like what Heidi has been doing for us with her vintage broomsticks," observed Anthony, "It's really awesome when collectors share like that."
"Harry did a great job painting that too," added Scott, "It wasn't just an awesome idea, but a very well executed idea as well."
"As for Cedric," smiled Sirius, "I'm not at all surprised that he used an orange background and featured black cats. "
"My father is the Head of the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures," said Cedric matter of factly.
"Exactly," piped up Harry, "Of course you were going to go for an animal theme."
"Yes," confirmed Cedric, "Black cats are an everyday creature that is associated with Halloween and the orange background makes it feel more Halloweeny. I will show this broomstick to my dad, of course, but my intent is to pass it on to my own son or daughter one day and make it a family heirloom."
"That is awesome, Cedric," beamed Heidi.
"Orange and black are colors that go well together," said Scott matter of factly, "Halloween decorations can be pretty awesome."
"Cedric's broomstick would fit right in with any collection of Halloween decorations," said Anthony warmly.
"Scott's is interesting to say the least," continued Sirius, "A black background adorned with skeletons."
"I wanted to go for a darker theme," said Scott seriously, "So, I decided to be Skeleton Scott!"
"Your broomstick has a creepy vibe to it," Harry told Scott.
"Thank you, Harry," said Scott happily, "That's exactly the feeling I was aiming for."
"Creepy is a hard vibe to get right," said Cedric matter of factly, "Scott's broomstick is a really polished piece of work."
"I have to agree," smiled Anthony, "From an artwork perspective, skeletons are also one of the hardest designs to pull off realistically."
"Scott's Skeleton broomstick is definitely an impressive piece of art," agreed Heidi.
"Anthony's is by far the darkest from a thematic point of view," said Sirius seriously, "Black background with blood stains, chipped pieces of teeth, bones, brains, and skulls is definitely an embrace of the dark side of Halloween."
"When I think of Halloween," said Anthony clearly, "I think of gore."
"Anthony's broomstick is a PG to PG-13 level of gore," reasoned Harry, "Horror and gore junkies would see it as mild."
"While those easily freaked out by horror and gore would scream at the sight of this broomstick," smirked Scott.
"I think Anthony's broom is the best here," praised Cedric, "Because all of the different parts increase the level of difficulty for producing the artwork."
"Anthony put a lot of effort into his artwork and it shows," said Heidi glowingly, "His artwork required a lot of attention to detail, and he nailed it."
"My thoughts exactly," nodded Cedric.
"Katsumi's broomstick," is the simplest," observed Sirius, "Just alternating squares of orange, black, and purple. I suppose the simplicity is fitting for Katsumi's shy and quiet personality."
"Yes," confirmed Katsumi in a quiet voice, "Simple suits me well."
"Still feels really Halloweeny though," said Harry encouragingly, "Just going with the Halloween colors is good enough for Halloween."
"It's totally okay to go the simple route," said Cedric in a reassuring voice, "You successfully created what you wanted to create and that's what matters."
"Katsumi's broomstick is a beautiful piece of art," cooed Heidi.
"I like the mix we got," said Scott fondly, "Lighter, darker, simpler, more elaborate etc."
"I love that we didn't get any duplicate designs," agreed Anthony.
"Heidi's is definitely the most lighthearted," smiled Sirius, "A white background with candy corns in their familiar white, orange, and yellow color scheme."
"I have a massive Sweet Tooth," said Heidi warmly, "Mostly my mom's influence. Also, I have a very light and gentle personality. While I admire Scott's and Anthony's work, I could never make art like that because I just don't have the personality for it."
"It's fitting that one of us would use a candy theme," said Cedric approvingly, grinning at Heidi.
"Cauldrons, cats, skeletons, gore, colors, and candy are a perfect mix," beamed Anthony admiringly, looking around at everyone's work.
"Anyone who walked into this room right now would get a very Halloweenish vibe out of it," said Scott briskly.
"The different artwork we all made contrasts and compliments each other really well," agreed Harry.
"One last thing," smiled Sirius, "I have something to share with you all."
Sirius dived under his chair and came back up with a small orange bowl with seven orange lollipops inside it.
"I thought orange lollipops would be a nice Halloween treat without filling us up too much before lunch. Everyone may take one."
Heidi backed off and said, "I'll take mine last," while everyone else eagerly put a hand into the bowl and withdrew an orange lollipop. When she was absolutely sure that everyone else had theirs, Heidi dug her hand into the bowl and took the last lollipop.
For the rest of the meeting, Sirius, Harry, Cedric, Scott, Anthony, Katsumi, and Heidi pleasantly sucked on the lollipops while chatting away about the watercolor paint brooms that were lying on the table in front of them.
The atmosphere inside the room was friendly and welcoming and epitomized everything Heather had wanted the school clubs to be.
It had been a very enjoyable meeting combining Halloween and painting and when it was time to leave, they all yelled "HAPPY HALLOWEEN 1992!" at each other.
