Before I get started, let me acknowledge that since the last update, Harry Potter and the Yellow Quartet has gone over 400 followers and currently stands at 402. Thank you to everyone who is responsible for Harry Potter and the Yellow Quartet reaching this awesome milestone. ❤️❤️❤️❤️. This chapter is Amy's club meeting on Halloween 1992, and I will make sure I get both Susan's and Hannah's written before Halloween and there will likely be one more Halloween chapter after that so that there ends up being 6 Halloween 1992 chapters.
Meanwhile, Ernie, Brett, Mason, and Amy all took their usual seats in the Potions Club Room and found a standard cauldron and a set of colored pencils on each of their desks.
"So," explained Potions Club leader Alexander, "Today for Halloween you are going to create Halloween themed cauldrons using colored pencils."
"Is there any particular reason why we are using colored pencils instead of markers?" asked Amy curiously.
"Markers would smear easily on cauldrons," answered Alexander matter of factly, "The scratchy nature of colored pencils works far better to create cauldron art."
So, Ernie, Brett, Mason, and Amy got to work on their cauldrons.
They were well focused and locked in on their cauldrons and the scratching of colored pencils against cauldrons was the only sound in the room they worked.
"Well," smiled Alexander when they had finished, "I'm delighted to see that all four of you created a different kind of Halloween themed cauldron."
"I was going for a theme of the dark and the dim," explained Ernie, "When I think of Halloween, I most heavily associate it with darkness. I mean, Halloween does fall at a time when the days have been getting shorter for a while and the shortest days of the year are still upcoming."
"You succeeded," cooed Alexander adoringly, "I'd say that a design of alternating orange, purple, and black candles which are all dimly lit beneath a dark purple night sky does a fantastic job of capturing the theme of darkness and dimness."
"I'm glad you included purple candles, Ernie," added Amy approvingly, "I'm completely in league with the idea of considering purple a Halloween color."
"I'm really impressed with how Ernie nailed the dimness of the light on those candles and how he mastered the overall atmosphere of darkness he was aiming for," beamed Brett.
"Ernie was also careful to keep his pattern of orange, then purple, then black across the cauldron without a single error in the pattern," mused Mason.
"Yes," confirmed Ernie, "I was very attentive to that. My pattern of candles has a nice natural flow to it and the dark purple sky compliments it well for a successful theme. I did a fantastic job, and I should be very proud of myself for that."
Brett, meanwhile, said, "I decided to go for more a of beautiful fall type theme. It may be a little less Halloweenish then Ernie's, Mason's, or Amy's, but it fits in well. Though, I don't understand why we are wasting a club meeting on an activity like this instead of learning about and/or making Potions."
Alexander sighed.
"Brett, part of the reason for Headmistress Abbott's club mandate was to make friends and have fun and that would especially be true on a day like today."
"Alexander is right," agreed Amy, "Brett, you really do need to learn to loosen up a bit. Being one thousand percent serious one thousand percent of the time isn't healthy for anyone. Life is too short to take it too seriously."
"Well said, Amy," nodded Alexander, "Brett, you need to develop more of a lighter side, so life doesn't totally engulf you. As for your cauldron, mostly drawing pumpkins while surrounding them with a little orange fall foliage and a couple of black cats on either end of your cauldron captures the fall theme pretty well."
"I'm guessing," piped up Ernie, "That Brett added the black cats to make it a little more Halloweenish."
"I did," confirmed Brett.
"That little touch made all the difference in the world," observed Amy, "Though Brett could have made it more Hallowenish by making the pumpkins Jack O Lanterns."
"I think he wanted to it simple," reasoned Mason.
"Indeed," nodded Brett, "I just wish we were actually making or learning about Potions."
"I on the other hand, " grinned Mason, "LOVE that we did something fun for Halloween today.'
"It shows," acknowledged Alexander, "I love how you played around with the colors of things too."
"But note that Mason did stick to colors that are associated with Halloween, he just mixed them up a bit for a cool and different design," said Amy fondly."
"I have to say," said Ernie happily, "That a slimy green ghost with the word BOO! above it in slimy green might be one of the coolest things I've ever seen."
"When it comes to the question of whether or not green is Halloween color," reasoned Amy, "I would say only if it is the right shade of green. Slimy green and ghoulish green make the cut. Most others probably don't. Those shades of green can be a fantastic complimentary Halloween color."
"I agree with that," nodded Ernie, "Seeing an orange bat, a white Jack O Lantern, a black moon, and a purple cat to go along with the slimly green ghost and BOO! is pretty cool!"
"I just love how Mason embraced having fun with this activity," said Amy warmly, giving Mason a kind smile, "It's obvious to me that he has a MUCH better perspective on what these clubs are really supposed to be all about, especially on days like today, than Brett does."
"Totally agree," nodded Ernie, "I love Mason's playful spirit."
"Halloween offers so many different possibilities and opportunities for having fun and it's awesome to see Mason embrace that!" smiled Amy approvingly.
"Amy," piped up Alexander, "You did something very interesting with your cauldron. From left to right, you colored each fifth of your cauldron a different Halloween color: orange, black, purple, white, and ghoulish green. You then drew a broomstick in each fifth: a purple broomstick on the orange section, a ghoulish green broomstick on the black section, an orange broomstick on the purple section, a black broomstick on the white section, and a white broomstick on the ghoulish green section."
"I love Amy used all the notable Halloween colors," grinned Mason.
"Any particular reason you chose to use broomsticks as part of the design?" Ernie asked Amy.
"I used broomsticks in tribute to my bestie, Harry Potter, who loves flying on broomsticks. I will be presenting the cauldron to Harry as a gift later today."
"That was very thoughtful of you, Amy," said Ernie approvingly.
"Harry is in the Broom Club," explained Amy, "One of his clubmates is a girl named Heidi MacAvoy. Harry has told how Heidi sometimes brings her vintage broomsticks to Broom Club meetings to share with them."
"Just like Ernie does for us with his vintage cauldrons," smiled Mason.
"That's the idea," confirmed Amy, "These clubs have been a massive positive experience for the student body of Skyward School of Practical Sorcery."
"Now," said Alexander kindly, "I have one last treat for you all today, and I'm going to have one myself too."
Next nanosecond, Alexander dived under his chair and came back up with a small orange bowl with five orange lollipops inside it.
"Everyone may take one," instructed Alexander.
"I'll go last," offered Amy politely, taking a few steps back, "Everyone else can go before me."
Ernie, Brett, Mason, and Alexander all eagerly placed their hands into the bowl simultaneously and plucked out an orange lollipop.
When she saw that everyone else had theirs, Amy finally approached the bowl and plucked the last orange lollipop for herself.
As they happily sucked away on the lollipops and happily chatted away about the cauldron artwork in front on them., they all felt a sense of Halloween spirit wash over them.
When the time for the meeting to end came, the five of them happily wished each other, "Happy Halloween 1992!" to finish things off.
