This chapter shows Hannah's Halloween 1992 club meeting. This concludes the club meeting chapters for Halloween 1992. One more Halloween 1992 chapter will be posted closer to Halloween 2024.
Hannah walked out to the body of water at the east end of Skyward School of Practical Sorcery where she was greeted by Justin, Fiona, Crystal, Amanda, and their club leader Wanda.
"So," explained Wanda, "We're going to be doing something a little different today. Please take out your wands."
Justin, Fiona, Crystal, Amanda, and Hannah dug their right hands into their right hand pockets and pulled out their wands.
"So," smiled Wanda, "Headmistress Abbott has put a temporary spell on the water to make it sculptable. We are going to be creating Halloween themed ice sculptures with this water today. Headmistress Abbott will refill the water later today. Please stand in a row just outside the water without getting into it."
Justin, Fiona, Crystal, Amanda, and Hannah stood in a row just outside the water. They instinctively stood far enough apart from each other to give themselves room to work comfortably.
After forming this row, Justin, Fiona, Crystal, Amanda, and Hannah looked up at Wanda and waited for her to give them further instructions.
"What you're going to do," instructed Wanda, " Is use your wands to draw Halloween themed shapes. When you have finished drawing your shapes, then point your wand at the finished shape and perform the spell "Icify!" These Halloween themed ice sculptures will be yours to keep."
Next nanosecond, Justin, Fiona, Crystal, Amanda, and Hannah all got to work drawing shapes in the water with their wands.
To their amazement, the shapes were easily able to build upon each other to create realistic looking length, width, and height.
When Justin, Fiona, Crystal, Amanda, and Hannah had all finished drawing their shapes, there were five cries of "Icify!" and the water shapes transformed into ice sculptures.
"WOW!" exclaimed Wanda proudly, "All five of your ice sculptures have vastly exceeded my expectations! Wonderful work by all of you!"
Justin, Fiona, Crystal, Amanda, and Hannah all exchanged genuine smiles with both Wanda and each other.
"Justin's is quite interesting," observed Wanda, "Six ghosts all touching each other with the word BOO! on the top of them."
"Ghosts and BOO! have been on my mind since Harry scared us all with that perfect "BOO!" just before the lights came back on this morning," smirked Justin.
"That was such a memorable moment," said Hannah warmly, "Harry did such a good job with the planning he did for this Halloween."
"Headmistress Abbott did too," smiled Wanda, "You see, this past Sunday night, Headmistress Abbott gathered the club leaders in her office and explained that we would be having club meetings on Halloween between breakfast and lunch. She made it clear that these meetings should be fun and lighthearted, and she suggested that the clubs do creative activities with the twist of a Halloween themed added."
"You, go, mom!" beamed Hannah proudly.
"Getting back to Justin's ice sculpture," interjected Fiona, "Why did you choose to have six ghosts?"
"The six ghosts are meant to represent the fact that, including our leader, Water Club has six members."
"That makes sense," said Crystal matter of factly, "But why are all the ghosts touching each other?"
"To symbolize the sense of togetherness and support that we share here in the Water Club," said Justin sincerely."
"Aw, it's nice to feel appreciated," cooed Amanda.
"I haven't forgotten how all of you came to visit me in the hospital wing when I had my Potions Accident. Trust me, it will stick with me forever how you five went out of your way to be there for me and support me at a time when I most needed it."
"That was one of the purposes of mom's club mandate, to afford students the opportunity to make friends. As Justin's parents are muggles and cannot enter this school, and as Justin lacks close friends, I knew how much he needed our support."
"I lacked close friends at the time," said Justin happily, "I don't now. You see, I have a quartet of my own with Fiona, Crystal, and Amanda even away from the Water Club."
"Justin, that's wonderful," said Hannah contently, "Mom's club mandate is doing exactly what she intended it to do."
"I got the impression," said Justin matter of factly, "That from what you've previously told us, Headmistress Abbott's intent was for students to make new friends apart from their best friends."
"That was more about her decision as guardian for Harry, Amy, Susan, and me," explained Hannah patiently, "She felt that we needed to make other friends apart from each other and have different experiences apart from each other. She didn't want the four of us joining the same club and only interacting with each other. There are clubs that have BFFs together in them. Seamus and Dean are BFFs who are in Susan's Sand Club together as are Sofia and Xiu. As long as they have the opportunity to also make other friends, mom doesn't mind BFFs being in the same club. The case of Harry, Amy, Susan, and myself was different. Mom felt we had become all of each other and needed some point of divergence."
"What do you think she would say about me forming a quartet with Fiona, Crystal, and Amanda even outside of Water Club?" asked Justin.
"She'd be overjoyed," smiled Hannah, "None of the four of you came to Skyward School of Practical Sorcery with established friendships. In a case like that, she'd be happy to know that the four of you have found close friends in each other. Remember too that club choices have to be remade at the start of each new school year so you four could diverge and go into different clubs at some point in the future. For this year, the fact that the Water Club led to the formation of your quartet is something mom would see as A Very Good Thing."
"I'll never be in another club," said Crystal matter of factly, "Mom and dad will insist that I stick with Water Club. They still haven't forgotten my near drowning experience when I was five and want me to have all the practice with water I can get."
"Anyway," continued Justin, "I felt that six ghosts touching each other was a fantastic way to combine a Halloween theme with the symbolism of togetherness I feel from this club. The BOO! adds a nice touch. "
"It's nice to see people recognize and acknowledge people who have helped them along the way," said Wanda approvingly, "Fiona, could you explain your choice of a Jack O Lantern?"
"I readily acknowledge and admit that mine is the simplest," piped up Fiona, "But I thought it would be really cool to see a Jack O Lantern in ice sculpture form. I'm far from a Halloween junkie, but, I have always enjoyed Jack O Lanterns."
"It is really cool," Fiona," declared Justin fiercely, "For someone whose interest in Halloween is limited, going with a simple choice was the right choice."
"You did a really good job on your Jack O Lantern too," added Amanda approvingly, "The shapes of the nose, eyes, and mouth are flawless."
"There's something to be said for just doing what you want to do in an activity like this," cooed Crystal, "There's purity in that."
"It feels fitting that one of us made a Jack O Lantern," said Justin warmly, "I mean, what is more associated with Halloween than Jack O Lanterns?"
"All excellent points," said Hannah encouragingly, "Fiona, don't judge your work against anyone else's work or anyone else's expectations of your work. Be proud of the job you did and be happy you did something you enjoyed."
"Thank you for the kind words, everyone," smiled Fiona, "As a lifelong water junkie, choosing my club was easy. I'm blown away by what great friends I've made thanks to the Water Club."
"Aw, that's so sweet," smiled Wanda, "Crystal, you certainly used the scariest theme of anyone here."
"So," Crystal told them, "I figured that since it was such a scary situation, my own near drowning, that ultimately led me to the Water Club, I thought I'd use a scary theme. As such, I decided on a haunted house. In my case, I made a house with windows and various scary things showing through those windows. "
"I notice that you combined a creepy vibe with the scary," observed Justin, "Some of the windows have severed hands reaching out of them."
"I meant for those to feel as though they could grab you and strangle you to death if you weren't careful," explained Crystal.
"You nailed that," replied Justin admiringly, "When I look at those hands, I get chills feeling like I'm going to get snatched."
"Then there's the candles that have been knocked over in some of the windows," noted Fiona, "Though some of your windows have upright candles."
"That the only light in the house is candlelight is meant to epitomize the scary and spooky," revealed Crystal, "The knocked over candles represent how hard it's supposed to be to see in the house as well as how many near misses we humans have, be it with fire, water, or whatever."
"You've clearly put a lot of thought into your ice sculpture, Crystal," admired Amanda, "I love how certain parts of your house, including the roof, have holes in them."
"That's meant to play into the haunted vibe," nodded Crystal, "It's supposed to feel like there are spirits who are eating away at the house."
"In addition to the candles, hands, and holes, " saw Hannah, "I see wide open mouths with unusually sharp teeth."
"I wanted my haunted house to have some feel that the house itself could bite," was Crystal's explanation for this.
"It does feel that way," nodded Hannah, "Crystal, you did a very impressive job on a very high degree of difficulty ice sculpture, and you should be very proud of your work."
"Thank you," everyone," cooed Crystal contently.
"Amanda," piped up Wanda, "I hadn't expected anyone to use a mask as his or her shape."
"That's one reason I chose it," replied Amanda, "I figured no one else would choose it and I thought it would make my ice sculpture unique from my clubmates' ice sculptures."
"I'm guessing that is not the only reason though?" grinned Justin.
"No," confirmed Amanda, "Remember that I grew up surrounded by brooms, flying, and Quidditch. I declined to choose the Broom Club because I've had so much experience with brooms that they bore me now."
"OHH!" realized Fiona, "The mask is symbolic of how you chose to be someone other than who you grew up being by joining the Water Club."
"Smart girl, that Fiona Float," giggled Amanda, "In all seriousness, yes that was what I wanted to capture. I chose to be something other than what I grew up as by joining the Water Club."
"I think that's wonderful," said Crystal kindly, "Amanda, you are clearly a person who likes to take on new challenges and that's an admirable quality."
"I'm really enjoying Water Club," said Amanda happily, "This has been an awesome opportunity for me to try my hand at something new and different for me and I'm loving every nanosecond of it."
"I'm glad it's working out for you, Amanda," said Hannah kindly.
"Thanks, Hannah," replied Amanda with a smile.
"Hannah," said Wanda, "What made you settle on a skeleton?"
"Skeletons consist of bone," answered Hannah a nanosecond later, "My BFF has the last name Bones. Her name is Susan. Since I had to stick to something associated with Halloween, it was an easy choice to go with the skeleton since skeletons consist of Bones and my BFF has the last name Bones. I will be gifting this skeleton ice sculpture to Susan later today."
"The Yellow Quartet really do have a strong bond," piped up Justin admiringly, "It's really special how your thought was to not make something for yourself, but for your bestie."
"Hannah is a very kindhearted in general," beamed Fiona fondly.
"She really is," cooed Crystal, "It's the type of thing Hannah would do and it's the way she would think."
"If I know anything about the Yellow Quartet," piped up Amanda, "I would guess that in their respective clubs, Susan made something to gift Hannah and Harry and Amy made things to gift each other."
"I have no idea what the other clubs are doing today, but that would not surprise me," responded Hannah, "We in the Yellow Quartet have great affection for each other. But even within the Yellow Quartet, Harry and Amy are besties and Susan and I are besties."
"It's all good," said Wanda, "And so is this."
Wanda raised her wand and pointed it straight ahead.
"Accio ice sculpture," cried Wanda.
Next nanosecond, an ice sculpture in the shape of a small wading pool with six orange lollipops inside zoomed into Wanda's faster than a cheetah chasing its prey.
"So," smiled Wanda, "We are now going to enjoy some orange lollipops for Halloween. Everyone may come take one."
Justin eagerly ran up to where Wanda was standing and helped himself to the first orange lollipop out of the wading pool.
After that, Fiona, Crystal, Amanda, and Hannah walked more slowly up to where Wanda was holding the ice sculpture wading pool and helped themselves to one orange lollipop each as Wanda also took one for herself.
The six of them quietly ate and enjoyed the orange flavor until the lollipops were gone.
At that point, Justin, Fiona, Crystal, Amanda, Hannah, and Wanda called out, "Happy Halloween 1992!" together as the club meeting concluded.
