The afternoon sun filtered through the trees, casting dappled shadows along the path as Beckett walked through the park beside Castle. It was his idea—an "escape," he'd called it. She had resisted at first, but now, surrounded by the nature, she was glad she'd agreed.

"You've been quiet," Castle said, glancing at her.

Beckett shrugged, her hands stuffed into her coat pockets. "Just… thinking."

He tilted his head, giving her a sidelong look. "Dangerous pastime."

She smirked faintly, but the expression didn't last long. Her gaze drifted to a couple ahead of them, a father crouched beside a stroller, adjusting a tiny hat on his baby's head. The mother stood nearby, laughing at something he said.

Castle followed her gaze, his own smile fading slightly. "It's a lot to process," he said gently.

Beckett stopped walking, her eyes lingering on the family. "I've been going back and forth all week," she admitted, her voice barely audible, "About what I'm gonna do."

Castle turned to face her fully, his expression unreadable. "You don't have to decide everything today, Kate."

She looked up at him then, something shifting in her eyes. "No, I do. Because this isn't just about me anymore." He waited, sensing the weight of her words.

"I'm going to keep it," she said finally, her voice steady despite the flicker of uncertainty in her gaze. "I don't know what that looks like yet, but… I'm not running from this." She pauses for a brief moment before adding:"But Castle, it doesn't mean you have to stay.

You have your life, and I totally understand it you-"

Before she could finish that thought, Castle interrupted her. "Kate, I'm here. And I'm not going anywhere. You won't have to do this alone."

His words brought a warm smile to her face. She leaned in closer, their lips meeting in a soft, tender kiss. When they pulled back, she looked into his eyes and whispered, "I love you."

Castle's eyes widened in surprise, his expression shifting to one of pure delight. "You do?" he asked, excitement coming through his voice. Her smile deepened as she nodded.

"Yeah," she said softly.

"I love you too, Kate," Castle replied, his voice full of warmth.
