Chapter III: New Relationship
-X-
The new day arrived and the group was waiting for Nico and Faye in front of the cafeteria. They all wore warm clothes, but given they were planning on staying indoors the whole day, everyone just left the jackets in their rooms. Hazel smiled at Frank and they patiently waited next to an excited Percy, hungry for blue food.
Annabeth's phone vibrated. She pulled it out and frowned at the text message.
Silver Tongue: Heya Chase. Don't freak out.
Brainiac: Why, what did you do?
ST: Just got a great early Xmas present and I cant rlly hide him.
B: Your boyfriend is here?
ST: Yap, arrived last night.
ST: So, ur gonna meet him.
ST: :D
B: yessssssssssssssssss
"There they are!"
Annabeth looked up and frowned. Nico came down the stairs first, wearing the usual black rock band tee, ripped dark skinny jeans, with his aviator jacket over it. Faye rocked a pair of white sneakers, mom jeans ripped at the knees, a striped crop top, and a blue baseball jacket over it, her hair up in a half-ponytail.
And, with an arm around her shoulders was a young man.
He stood almost as tall as Percy, with tanned skin and handsome elfish features. His hair sat at a curly undercut at the top of his head, and his eyes were dark and fierce, with a gentle shade of amber. His lips were tugged into a full smirk, and he walked with a familiar swagger.
His shoulders were broad, and the long sleeves of his red flannel were rolled up to his elbow, showing off a muscular forearm. His dark jeans were fitted, hugging a slender waist, and the mountain boots resonated with the heavy steps he took.
"Hey guys!" Faye waved excitedly "Meet my boyfriend!"
"Leo?!" everyone exclaimed.
"Hey guys." He grinned sheepishly, scratching the back of his head.
"Oh. You know him." She looked between the jaw-slacked group and a sheepish Leo. "Wait, what?"
"Remember the crew I told you about? Superman, Aquaman-?"
"Einstein, Yue Fei, Witcher, Queenie and Ghost?"
"Jason, Percy, Annabeth, Frank, Hazel, Piper, and Nico." he pointed. "In order."
"Witcher?" Hazel frowned.
"It's a game."
"Yue Fei?"
"Yeah, wasn't he a really badass Chinese archer?" Leo raised an eyebrow.
"Yes, but I'm surprised you know that."
"I went down a rabbit hole." Leo shrugged.
"And how do you know him?" Faye asked turning to Annabeth.
"He's the friend that's supposed to arrive today! We've been friends for ages now." Annabeth exclaimed "I-! You're dating Leo Valdez!"
"Yeah! I am!"
"I'm more curious about what happened to you!" Piper stepped forward, eyeing him up and down "You were a scrawny little thing last time I saw you!"
"Yeah, amazing what a whole semester can do to you." he cleared his throat and let go of Faye to pull Jason into a hug.
"Hey, man."
Everyone exchanged greetings, and they were quick to find food and a table big enough for all of them. Leo immediately took a seat between Jason and Faye, who smiled at him. He chuckled as easy conversation began to flow into the group as they ate. It was not long before everyone was laughing, exchanging stories and adventures, and crying out regarding the quickly approaching exam season. Hazel looked at Leo, who was smiling brightly as Faye gesticulated at Piper mid-conversation, and she giggled.
"So, how did you two… happen?" Hazel asked, pointing between the most recent couple.
"Funny you should say that." Leo chuckled.
"Dude, still can't get over how deep your voice has gotten." Piper giggled "You sound so good!"
"Thanks, Pipes. We, hum… started as enemies?" he looked at the platinum blonde, who smirked.
"Competition." Faye declared "It went something like this…"
-x FLASHBACK x-
The group of seven students entered the classroom, watching as seven other students and two teachers watched them come inside. Faye noted how a couple of faces lit up at the sight of the mostly female group. Then, one of the teachers began to speak.
"So, now that we're all here. This is a study on Humanities Vs Biotech, to see which would value most in a specific set of cases that we're going to be presenting to you, and each group will have to prove reasoning results."
As the teacher went on about the technicalities of the study, the girls began to mutter between themselves. Faye was listening to the chatter, but was also focused on their competition. Her eyes zeroed on an elf-looking young man with admittedly beautiful amber irises that seemed to eye every girl with a raised eyebrow.
"You can tell by the look in their eyes that they're planning to trick us. I mean, they may be nerds, but they're still guys." One of them whispered at Faye's left.
"Yeah, but can we do something about it?"
"We're supposed to represent Humanities… that's what we do."
"You're right. We should do our job… but nothing like undermining our competition a little bit." Faye smirked.
"Oh, I do love it when you get that glint in your eyes." The one on Faye's right grinned "What are you thinking?"
"The elf-looking one is mine. I know what's he's thinking. He's thinking, that's gonna be a piece of cake. A girl, a Humanities one, on top? It's gonna be easy."
"Oh, dear… what are you gonna do?"
"I'm gonna destroy him." She smirked.
"So, I guess now we should give everyone a chance to choose a partner." The teacher spoke up "Humanities? Would you like to start?"
Faye raised her hand in a salute. Then, she pointed at her target. "Him."
"Very well. Please join him."
Faye nodded and walked to him, making sure to swing her hips in a natural way. She watched him as he took a deeper breath and rolled his shoulders back, making himself look taller. She smiled sweetly at him, and watched as the lightest of blushes flustered his cheeks.
"Hi."
"H-hey." He reached out a hand "I'm Leo. Leo Valdez."
"Faye Ashcroft." She took it gingerly "Pleasure to meet you, Leo."
"Likewise, Faye." They took a seat at his desk, and were quick to dive into work the second they received the first assignment.
After the class was finished, everyone vacated the room, and Leo walked with Faye outside. She was amused by the confidence he surrounded himself with, especially when he was in his element. Once the bright sun hit them, Faye smiled and took a deep breath.
"So, listen. I think it's important to tackle this heads on, so maybe we can meet up later to talk about it? My classes end at five, we can figure something out from there. I know a great café." He smiled.
"Are you asking me on a date?"
"I'm trying to." he wiggled his eyebrows "Seven thirty, here?"
"Sure." She nodded.
"W-wait, really?" he gasped, and Faye laughed internally at the sight of a flustered young boy.
"Yeah, really." she nodded "See you later, Leo."
When she arrived at his school, it was brushing on seven thirty five. She had changed clothes, opting for a crop black tee with her favorite album from Three Days Grace, a pair of white jean shorts and blue sneakers. Backpack swung over one shoulder and she spotted Leo looking down at his boots, leaning against a wall.
"Hey there. Sorry I'm late." She smiled.
"F-Faye!" he jumped at the sight of her "It's okay, I wasn't… I wasn't waiting long."
"You okay there?" she raised an eyebrow at the sight of his flushed cheeks.
"Y-yeah, I… I'm cool. You?"
"I'm good." She pursed her lips "You've never… gotten to this part before, have you?"
"…is it that obvious?" he gulped.
She couldn't stop her own giggle. He was adorable. "Come on, Mr. All-Talk. Take me on a date."
-x FLASHBACK x-
"And, from that moment on… it was bliss."
"You were a pain!" Faye laughed "I did destroy you, though."
"You did destroy me." he agreed "But I think the funniest part was that we each was supposed to represent a theme, and we both mixed up the other's theme while defending our own!"
"What can I say, it can't be fully exclusive. You made some really good points."
"As did you."
