Naruto had just left for the academy, and Izuna was preparing for his daily training when he noticed Shisui and Itachi waiting for him outside his apartment. He wasn't surprised to see them—they'd been coming around more often lately, asking questions and seeking guidance. What did catch him off guard, however, was the look of determination in their eyes.
"Well, this is a surprise," Izuna remarked, stepping out and locking the door behind him. "To what do I owe this pleasure?"
"We need to talk," Itachi said, his voice serious, though not unkind.
"About?" Izuna asked as they began to walk, heading toward the secret training ground he often used, a location tucked far enough from prying eyes that he could train in peace.
"Danzo," Shisui replied, and Izuna's pace slowed slightly. "We've been doing some investigating, and we think you might be right about him."
Izuna's eyes narrowed slightly, though he continued walking. "Go on," he urged, curious about what they'd uncovered.
"It wasn't easy," Shisui admitted, scratching the back of his head as they pushed through the thick foliage. "Danzo keeps himself well hidden. But we got some help from a Hyuga friend of ours. They used the Byakugan to get a closer look at Danzo's supposedly blind eye."
"And?" Izuna prompted, though he already had a feeling where this was going.
"It's protected by some sort of barrier," Itachi explained. "A seal that prevents anyone from seeing through it, even with the Byakugan or Sharingan."
"Interesting," Izuna murmured. "And you're sure about this?"
"Positive," Shisui confirmed. "If he had nothing to hide, there would be no reason to put up such a strong protective barrier."
"Which means there's something in there," Itachi added. "Something he doesn't want anyone to see."
Izuna stopped walking, turning to face them with an approving smile. "You've done well," he praised. "It's not easy to gather information on someone as paranoid as Danzo. But this is exactly the kind of proof we need to start unraveling his web of lies."
It was then that the conversation transitioned into the rest of the dialogue, with Itachi and Shisui expressing their anger and disbelief over Danzo's actions, and Izuna emphasizing the need for patience and caution.
Izuna nodded thoughtfully, a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips. It was encouraging to see the young Uchiha prodigies begin to piece together the truth. This development meant they were finally starting to understand the gravity of the situation. "Good," he said calmly, continuing his walk toward the forest where his secret training ground lay. The path was secluded, hidden by tall trees, and lined with thick underbrush, ensuring that only those who knew of its existence would find it. "Danzo's actions have always been suspect. It's about time others started to see him for what he truly is."
Itachi and Shisui exchanged glances, a flicker of doubt still lingering in their eyes despite their new understanding. Itachi cleared his throat, his tone cautious. "But why, Izuna? Why would he go to such lengths to hide this? And more importantly, how did he even obtain a Sharingan? The elders said nothing of any missing eyes."
Izuna sighed, his expression growing serious. "Because Danzo has always been in the shadows, waiting for the right moment to strike. He's never been one to act openly, always preferring to manipulate others from behind the scenes. As for how he got the Sharingan… there were many battles, many fallen Uchiha. It wouldn't have been difficult for him to scavenge one from the bodies of the deceased, especially after skirmishes where the clan was heavily involved."
Shisui clenched his fists, anger flashing in his eyes. "But that's desecration! He stole a part of our clan, our legacy!"
"Yes," Izuna agreed quietly, "and that's precisely why he must be stopped. He doesn't see the Sharingan as a gift or a heritage. He sees it as a tool—something to be used and exploited for his own gain."
As they neared the training ground, Izuna stopped and turned to face the duo, his expression hardened. "You must understand, Danzo's hatred for the Uchiha runs deep. He's been conditioned to see us as a threat since the days of Tobirama Senju. His entire worldview revolves around the idea that the Uchiha are dangerous and must be controlled, or eliminated. And now, with the Nine-Tails attack still fresh in everyone's minds, he's using that fear to justify his actions."
"How did you find out about this?" Itachi asked, eyes narrowed in suspicion but also genuine curiosity. He needed to know more about the man standing in front of him.
Izuna chuckled softly. "Let's just say I've been keeping an eye on him for a long time. I had my suspicions, even before the Nine-Tails attack, but that event merely confirmed what I already feared. Danzo's ambition knows no bounds. He will do anything to achieve power, even if it means sacrificing the entire village in the process."
"So, what do we do now?" Shisui asked, his voice tinged with frustration. "We can't just expose him. He's too well protected. The moment we make a move, he'll twist everything against us."
Izuna nodded. "Exactly. Which is why we have to be smart about this. Danzo is a master manipulator, but he isn't invincible. His strength lies in his ability to operate from the shadows, to act without anyone realizing until it's too late. But if we can shine a light on his actions, if we can expose him to the people of Konoha for what he truly is, then his power will crumble."
Itachi's eyes narrowed, his mind already working through possible plans. "You mean to dismantle his influence from within?"
"Precisely," Izuna confirmed. "But it's not going to be easy. Danzo has his roots deeply embedded within the village's infrastructure. He has allies, informants, and resources that most don't even know exist. We'll need evidence—irrefutable proof of his crimes—and we need to gather support from those within the village who are tired of his machinations."
"That's going to be difficult," Shisui muttered. "The elders practically worship him, and even the Third Hokage turns a blind eye to most of what he does."
Izuna nodded, his expression grim. "Which is why you need to be cautious. Don't trust anyone without good reason, not even those within your own clan. There are Uchiha who believe Danzo's lies, who think that our clan is destined to be traitors. They'll turn on you if they think you're acting against Konoha's interests."
Itachi clenched his jaw, the weight of Izuna's words sinking in. He'd always suspected that the path ahead would be difficult, but hearing it laid out so plainly made it feel even more daunting. "And what about you?" Itachi asked suddenly. "Where do you fit into all of this?"
Izuna's smile returned, though it was colder this time, more calculating. "My role is simple: I'm going to make sure Danzo doesn't live long enough to see his plans come to fruition."
Shisui's eyes widened. "You're going to kill him?"
"If it comes to that," Izuna replied without hesitation. "Danzo is a threat not just to the Uchiha, but to the entire village. He's orchestrated countless atrocities in the name of protecting Konoha, but all he's done is weaken it from within. If killing him is the only way to stop him, then yes, I will do it."
There was a long silence, the weight of Izuna's words pressing down on them. Itachi looked away, his mind racing with conflicting thoughts. "Is that the only way?" he finally asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
"Perhaps not," Izuna admitted, "but it's the most effective. And I don't have the luxury of time to play nice."
Itachi closed his eyes, taking a deep breath. "Then I'll do whatever I can to help," he said, resolve hardening in his voice. "If exposing Danzo is the only way to protect the village and prevent another war, then I'll see it done."
"And you have my support as well," Shisui added firmly. "We can't allow him to continue tearing Konoha apart from the inside."
Izuna's smile returned, this time warmer and more genuine. "Good. Then we're in this together. But remember—patience is key. Don't let your emotions cloud your judgment, and don't take unnecessary risks. We'll strike when the time is right, and when we do, Danzo won't even see it coming."
The forest path was dense, with branches and foliage that seemed to reach out, almost like they wanted to block the way. It was a labyrinth of greenery, and each step seemed to plunge them deeper into the shadows. Shisui and Itachi exchanged wary glances, their skepticism growing. The deeper they went, the more uncertain they became of Izuna's intentions, especially considering his blindness.
"Itachi," Shisui whispered as they maneuvered around another thick root. "Are you sure he knows where he's going? I mean... he's—"
"Blind?" Itachi finished the thought, keeping his voice low. "I don't think that's ever stopped him." He watched the way Izuna moved with confidence, never hesitating even when the path split or seemed to vanish entirely. His steps were sure, as though he could see everything around him.
After what felt like an eternity, they approached a cave entrance half-hidden by thick vines. It was unremarkable, just a dark maw that seemed to swallow all light. Izuna stepped inside without a second thought, vanishing into the darkness. Shisui paused at the entrance, peering into the black void. "He just disappeared," Shisui muttered, disbelief in his tone. "What the hell?"
Itachi gave a slight nod. "Stay close. We're not dealing with someone ordinary." He ducked his head and stepped into the cave, feeling the cool air swallow him whole.
The darkness was all-consuming for a moment, but just as Itachi's eyes began to adjust, everything shifted. The cave's rocky interior suddenly gave way to blinding light, and the two Uchiha found themselves standing in a wide-open space.
"What... is this place?" Shisui breathed out, his eyes darting around. Before them lay a large, clear training yard. It was an oasis in the middle of the forest, free of any trees, with soft grass covering the ground. In the center of the area was a small pond, its waters still and reflective, as though it hadn't been disturbed for centuries. The surface shimmered in the light, casting an ethereal glow over the clearing.
Izuna stood by the water's edge, a faint smirk tugging at his lips. He turned his head slightly in their direction, sensing their confusion. "Welcome," he said, his voice carrying effortlessly across the space. "This is my training ground."
Shisui blinked, still taking in their surroundings. "How did we... this cave, it was just a cave!"
"A very well-concealed barrier," Itachi murmured, more to himself than to Shisui. His eyes scanned the area, tracing the faint outlines of seals carved into the stone walls, nearly invisible to the naked eye.
"Exactly," Izuna nodded, acknowledging Itachi's observation. "This place is heavily sealed and hidden. No one can sense what happens here, not even the most skilled sensor ninjas. It's a perfect place to train without fear of being watched or interrupted."
"You train Naruto here?" Itachi asked, his eyes meeting Izuna's, though he knew the man couldn't see him. There was a subtle skepticism in his tone, as though he couldn't quite imagine the little blond boy they'd seen working in such an advanced and isolated environment.
Izuna's smirk grew a fraction wider. "Yes, this is where I train him in the ways of a shinobi. Away from prying eyes, away from those who would misunderstand or... interfere."
"So why bring us here?" Shisui asked, his curiosity getting the better of him. "Isn't this supposed to be your secret hideaway? Your fortress of solitude?"
Izuna let out a small chuckle. "Because," he began, "it's time you both understood the lengths to which I'm willing to go. If you're going to be involved in what's coming, you need to see things clearly—without any doubts." He gestured around him. "This place is an extension of that. A space to confront the truth without fear or hesitation."
Itachi's eyes softened, a slight hint of understanding settling in. "You're saying that the truth about Danzo... everything you've told us... it all leads here?"
"Yes," Izuna confirmed. "It's all connected. And if you're going to take action, you need to be prepared." He turned fully towards them, the ghost of a grin still on his face. "Besides, I thought you might want to spar a little. It's been a while since I've had a decent workout."
Shisui scoffed, though there was a glint of excitement in his eyes. "Are you serious, old man? You think you can keep up with us?" Despite his words, he began stretching, his body loosening as he prepared for a potential fight.
"Careful," Izuna warned, amusement dancing in his tone. "You might find that this 'old man' still has a few tricks up his sleeve."
Itachi stepped forward, cracking his knuckles. "We didn't come here to play games," he said, but his stance betrayed his interest. "We want answers."
"And you'll get them," Izuna promised. "But first, show me what you've got." He dropped into a fighting stance, his movements fluid and precise despite his blindness. "Because words only mean so much. If you truly want to know what's at stake, you'll have to prove yourselves."
Shisui's eyes gleamed with anticipation. "Don't hold back, then."
Izuna's smirk turned into a full grin. "Oh, I wouldn't dream of it."
