When Barry arrived at the Hall of Justice, he found it deserted, which was not surprising since he knew that most of the League was deployed on a mission, but the hall was the only place he could think of to bring Red Tornado's body. Or rather the pieces of it.
And since Red Tornado wasn't alive right now, he wouldn't trigger any security measures as he sped him into the Hall's science lab.
"Flash, 08, access granted." the computer said as Flash came to a stop.
"Computer, are there any Justice League members that aren't currently on the Cadmus mission aside from myself and Green Arrow?" Flash asked, since the AI of this place had been programmed by Batman and as such, it had about as much personality as the dark knight did. At least when he was in work mode.
"The Justice League members currently involved in the Cadmus mission are Supergirl, Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Black Lightning, Martian Manhunter and Vixen. Both Green Lanterns are currently offworld, Green Arrow, Batwoman and Aquaman all have their own objectives to accomplish, leaving the only available Justice League member is Doctor Fate." the computer said.
"That's actually kind of perfect. Send a message to him requesting his presence at the hall immediately." Flash said and before the AI could respond, there was a bright flash of light and suddenly Doctor Fate was standing in front of Flash.
"I sensed that I would be summoned here before the transmission was sent. What's the issue?" Doctor Fate asked.
"I've got an old friend of yours here." Flash said, referencing the table.
"Red Tornado." Doctor Fate said in shock at seeing his old friend teammate there and in pieces.
"I found him while investigating a rogue general who'd been turned into some kind of monster." Flash said as Doctor Fate placed his hand on Tornado's faded and beaten face.
"What have they done to you old friend?" Doctor Fate asked.
"Best guess is that General Eiling had his people disassemble Red Tornado piece by piece to see if they could create an army of him. Though I'm guessing that failed." Flash said and he could see Kent was seething under that helmet.
"Where is this Eiling?" Doctor Fate demanded.
"Right now he's currently being processed at Belle Reve and he's not doing much talking right now." Flash said as Doctor Fate removed his helmet, though keeping his suit on.
"You deserved so much better, old friend. I should've tried to find you after the JSA was disbanded. Kept you safe." Kent said as he slammed the table with his fists.
"You don't have the powers without the helmet on right?" Flash asked, seeing how angry Kent was.
"Why do you think I took it off before I destroyed this entire hall by accident? I should've prevented this from happening. Did Eiling have anything else that belonged to my former teammates?" Kent asked.
"A few items. Like an hourglass, a pair of goggles and a pink pen." Flash said.
"A pink pen?" Kent asked.
"That's what you took away from this?" Flash asked, thinking that a pen was probably the least impressive thing in there.
"That pen is no ordinary pen. It's the Thunderbolt. One of the most powerful mystic weapons on the planet. Thank all the Lords of Order that Eiling was never able to wake it up." Kent said.
"What do you mean, it's the Thunderbolt?" Flash asked, since he'd never heard of that before.
"As in Johnny Thunder and the Thunderbolt. They were later members of the JSA recruited after the war, since while some of us retired afterwards, several JSA members decided to become an organization outside the government, a true precursor to the Justice League. The ones who retired were Black Canary, Wildcat, Vixen, Hourman and Starman. I became a part time member of the JSA due to my responsibilities as a Lord of Order. The ones who stayed, namely Red Tornado and Dr. Midnite continued to serve and they continued to recruit other new heroes as they emerged, including Commander Steel, the second Starman, Obsidian, a different kind of Green Lantern, don't ask and Johnny Thunder and the Thunderbolt. That pen is basically a genie's lamp and when the Thunderbolt inside bonds to someone, they have unlimited wishes. It's very powerful." Kent said.
"Got it." Flash said.
"Was there anything else? Did you see a ring or lantern or a staff?" Kent asked.
"No, why?" Flash asked as Kent sighed in relief.
"Because I was worried that he might have gotten his hands on Green Lantern's ring and battery or worse, Starman's cosmic staff." Kent said.
"How would Eiling have a green lantern power ring or battery? Don't they immediately leave their hosts when they die?" Flash asked.
"This was a different kind of ring. Instead of harnessing willpower like Alex and Hal do, this ring was powered by magic. It's complicated, but it's a different kind of green lantern power. But the lantern and ring, along with the staff, were never accounted for when the JSA was ultimately disbanded." Kent said.
"No, I didn't see any sign of them." Flash said.
"Good. Though it does beg the question of where they are now, since the league really shouldn't leave powerful weapons like those lying around." Flash said.
"I've tried searching for them over the years, but to no avail. But I believe that we've gotten sidetracked." Kent said.
"True, but I will talk to Kara about relocating all JSA memorabilia to here where it can be safely stored and secured." Flash said and Kent nodded.
"Anyways, do you think your magic can fix Red Tornado?" Flash asked.
"No. Believe me, I wish it could, but he's too badly damaged for my magic to fix and I'm uncertain if even our current technological geniuses could repair him in this state, since he is no ordinary machine. His creator, T.O. Morrow built him to essentially be a living machine, an android that could think for itself. I have to admit, Morrow may have been insane, but he was a genius, far ahead of his time. I honestly think that he's the only person who could fix Tornado in this condition." Kent said.
"And I'm guessing it won't be as easy as calling him up?" Flash asked and Kent shook his head.
"Morrow was a madman who originally built Tornado as a means of infiltrating and destroying the JSA before Red evolved beyond that programming. Even if he is still alive, which is unlikely at this point, he's been in hiding for years, trying to evade justice." Kent said.
"Can't you do a locator spell or something to find him?" Flash asked and Kent nodded.
"I can try. I owe Red that much. And even if Morrow is gone, we will find a way to bring Tornado back." Kent said.
"I know. No matter what it takes." Flash said as they looked down at the remains of the once great hero and hoped that he'd become great once again.
