Sophie started crying, stinging tears. Washing away some ash. Fintan walked over at the sound of her sobs. "Did you reach out to your boyfriend? I hope you did, that was needed to complete our plan. Plus, they don't have their bloated leader! They will be disorganized and won't expect this!" He grinned to himself. A twisted grin of evil. New tears came at the mention of Mr. Forkle. That wound was still too fresh. "Ugg stop crying.'' He reached for her face and seared his hand on her skin until he had dried up her tears, and she stopped crying. Hot burning blisters settled on her face. The Neverseen were monsters. "Well, time to get some more cloth." He grabbed a light pink cloth square that smelled sweet. She held her breath and fought away but the drugs came through, putting her in the dark inky blackness of sedatives.

Pain pulled her back to her body. Sophie felt she was burned up pretty bad. She was wrapped up in ropes. Fintan was carrying her to a cage with bars just wide enough for someone to stick their hand in. A lump caught in her throat. The ambush was going to happen soon. And she was going to be a moonlark trapped in a cage forced to enhance anyone who stuck their hand through the bars. Fintan tossed her into the cage, slamming the door behind her. Her ankles were unsurprisingly still broken. The pain was numbed by the cold floor of the small prison. She had no doubt they chose this bird cage because she was the moonlark. She finally got a good look at her ankles and… they were bruised and red. They were also swollen to the point they looked like they could burst. Her wrists were perfect. No bruising or weird colors, no burns. The Neverseen must have healed her wrists to make her enhancing better. She couldn't stand them any longer, her only hope was to escape during the ambush.

Alvar appeared out of nowhere. Sophie yelped. He tapped his foot and the cage started hovering. Alvar was using telekinesis. The cage wobbled to a corner in the dark room they were in. The cage then dropped, Sophie let out another yelp. She looked around and found the rest of the Neverseen. Fintan grabbed the cage. Ruy then grabbed Sophie with a tight grip that twisted her skin. "Everyone remembers the plan?" Gethan asked. Everybody nodded in agreement. "Let's do this'' Gethan raised a clear crystal to the little light in the room and then all of them leaped away.

Fresh air tickled her lungs and Sophie gladly sucked it in. They were back in the Lost Cities and she was hopefully going home soon. The Black Swan had to free her during the ambush. If they survive the ambush. She pushed those thoughts away and focused on breathing. Slow breaths cleared her head. The Black Swan were strong and smart. Her family and friends would also be there fighting along, coming to help her. Telekinesis grabbed her cage and had it float along with the Neverseen. She looked over a hill and saw that they were at Everglen. She forgot her body needed air to survive, even though one second ago she was taking huge breaths. Then Fintan looked at Sophie and said "Call to them make them think you freed yourself or I burn down this mansion." Sophie nodded.

"Fitz!" she cringed. She didn't want to be the one leading them into an ambush. But she didn't want Fintan to call everblaze down. "Fitz! I need you! The Neverseen might be here any second, I need to let me in!" her scratchy voice echoed in the air. But she got a reply.

"Sophie?!" a crisp voice called back.

'Fitz! It's me! The Neverseen must be coming back for me soon, I need you to get me inside!" she started crying. The Fintan quickly got her out of the cage and pushed her down the hill. They then hid in the shadows. Her sobs echoed loudly through the misty trees. Everything hurts. She did not want to be pushed down a hill ever again. She scowled at the shadows the Neverseen were hiding in, but she continued to call out. "Fitz, please help me!"

The gate opened, Fitz ran through and gasped at Sophie. "You're here!" He sprinted and hugged her. Sophie cringed. "Oh, sorry." He stepped back and began to study her, tears slipping through his teal eyes as he looked at her shoulder. "What did they do to you?" he gently brushed his hand across her face. Careful to stay clear of her burns. Sophie couldn't answer. She just buried her face in his shoulder and cried. Fitz cradled her head and whispered, " I will go call Elwin."

"No, you can't the-Neverseen-this is their ambush." Fitz stared at her. Then in a blink of an eye a force field pushed Sophie away from him. She felt her body twitching for a split second then she hit the ground, knocked unconscious.

Fitz

"No!" Fitz yelled! Fury boiled up inside him, rage and hate leaked around his mind. His goblin throwing star whizzed out of his hand. He had no idea where it would land. But he hit a target. Ruy rolled down the hill with a throwing star in his leg. Something cracked in his mind but he pushed it aside. The force field was down and he ran to Sophie. Alvar appeared and kicked him aside without hesitation. Picked up Sophie and ran up the hill and put her in the cage. Gethen grabbed her hand and sighed. He was being enhanced. While still holding her hand he reached for her startled to do anything else, Fitz called for everybody in his house.

"OHMYGOSH! I'm in!" Gethen made it in Sophie's mind. How? No idea. But there was no time to think about that. It must have been the enhancing. His mom appeared and was pinning Fintan down. Fire was spreading around but he could see Edaline on crutches far away conjuring water buckets to Della. Fitz looked back to Gethen and saw him scrunching up his brow. "I think I can find her ability center and give some pretty powerful abilities." NOOOO! "Powerful, but then will make her unstable. perfect." His smokey voice curled around the edges of his chiseled face. His eyebrows knitted together in concentration. Sophie jolted upward letting out a scream. Wide eyes locked with his.

Help me… Sophie was transmitting to him. Fintan kicked Della off. His mom slumped up off the grass. "MOM!" He shouted. His heart was hammering in his ears. He ran up the hill and grabbed his mom.

I will help you soon, I promise. Fitz transmitted. Ok, he could run up and use telekinesis to lift the cage. Then bring her inside Everglen with Elwin. Everybody could fight them off. Not a very solid plan but it will have to do.

Out of nowhere Gethen laughed and told the Neverseen to get out of there. They leaped away fast. Leaving everybody puzzled. They also left Sophie behind! Most likely for some other plan they had. But whatever.

Fitz ran up the hill and channeled energy to his hands and ripped the door of the cage off its hinges. He gently lifted Sophie out of the cage. Her eyes were glazed, and she was stiff. But she was safe. He picked her back up and brought her to Elwin.
