Danny and Sam had been dating for two years now.
They were meeting at Sam's house before going to dinner at Anchor At Wellington, the only seafood restaurant in Wellington On Sea with vegeterian options.
Danny walked past her parents' shop entrance and through the house enterance into the living room.
And there she was. The brilliant girl with the pigtails in her hair. The guitarist of the Climatastrophers. Sam Beccles.
He loved her. They'd already told each other so last Christmas. Danny and Sam had been together for a year.
They were inside of a cozy igloo they'd spent the day making and decorating. The igloo was decorated with things that each of them liked, like a monster truck poster for Danny and an ice shelf of Tracey Thorn CDs for Sam.
Sitting in this igloo that they'd made together that represented both of their personalities, Sam knew she was finally ready to say those three words.
"I love you," Sam confessed.
Danny seemed shocked by this confession and paused for a second.
Sam started to worry. Perhaps she'd moved too fast and said it too soon. Perhaps...
"Can you say that again," Danny asked.
"Huh," Sam questioned.
"I really liked hearing you say that," Danny explained, "Please say it again."
Sam smiled so big. She already knew how he felt from that reaction.
"I love you," Sam repeated.
The look on Danny's face perfectly expressed the pure euphoria he felt at that moment.
"I love you too," Danny confessed.
They couldn't stay seated anymore. They both got up, ran into each other's arms, and shared a kiss.
And it was the greatest moment of both their lives. Danny was brought back to reality by Sam greeting him.
"Hey," Sam greeted, "Hello."
"Hey," Danny greeted, "Are you ready to go to dinner?"
"Yes," Sam answered, "Dinner. Yes, I'm ready."
"Great," Danny responded, "I could really use a distraction right now."
"What do you mean," Sam questioned.
"I got a 75 on Wheatley's midterm," Danny groaned.
"You did that good and you're upset," Sam loudly questioned.
"What," Danny gasped.
"Oh," Sam stuttered, "I'm just saying because Charlie got a 46 on that midterm."
"Oh," Danny deflated, "I'm sorry to hear that."
"I mean, she's trying her best," Sam defended, "She just doesn't have the time to study like I do, which makes no sense, since I have a boyfriend and spend so much time with him."
"Ok," Danny stated, very confused.
"My point is that you shouldn't worry about this stuff," Sam sympathized, "You're clearly doing better than you think you are."
"Thank you," Danny thanked, "I might still worry a bit about this stuff, though."
"Maybe I can help take your mind off that," Sam proposed, walking closer to Danny running her finger along his chest.
"Whoa," Danny gasped, "You're being very bold, S-"
"Shhh," Sam shushed, "Shut...shut it. Just don't think and let yourself relax."
Danny decided to take his girlfriend's advice, so he wrapped his arms around her and kissed her.
It felt...a bit different for some reason. Not that it was bad, but it just didn't feel as great as when they usually kissed.
At least Sam seemed to be enjoying it.
Even when they separated and gazed into each other's eyes, something just seemed off. Sam's eyes seemed familiar, but still different. Almost like...
"Danny," a voice behind Danny questioned.
The voice sounded familiar. Danny turned towards the door and there she was. The brilliant girl with the pigtails in her hair. The guitarist of the Climatastrophers. Sam Beccles.
Danny turned back to who he originally thought was Sam, making a horrifying realization.
"Wrong twin, Romeo," the girl who was Danny now figured out was Charlie quipped.
"Wait," Danny stuttered, letting go of Charlie and backing away from her, "But, I, uh..."
"What is going on here," Sam interrogated, "Charlie, did you put your hair in pigtails?"
"Sorry, Sam," Charlie interrupted, "But I've always wondered if he's as good a kisser as you say he is."
Danny and Sam blushed very hard at Charlie's comment.
"And don't worry, Danny," Charlie reassured, "You didn't do too bad. I do still think I prefer Nisha though."
"I," Danny stuttered, "I, uh..."
"And that's my cue to exit," Charlie quipped, walking upstairs to her room.
Danny was still thrown by what just happened. The fact that he actually believed his girlfriend's sister was his girlfriend. the fact that he kissed his girlfriend's sister. How could he do that?
Sam was...feeling a lot of things. Too many things to pin one down.
"Sam, I am so sorry," Danny quickly apologized, "I really thought she was you. She did her hair like you and she was acting like you and..."
"It's ok, Danny," Sam hesitantly brushed off, "Charlie's been getting better at impersonating me. It's not your fault she got it into her head to do...that."
"Oh," Danny breathed out.
"I can't act like I'm happy about what happened," Sam admitted, "But I'm not mad *at you*."
"Ok," Danny breathed out, "That's a relief."
"I am going to have to find a way to get Charlie back," Sam muttered.
"Alright," Danny stammered, "Before I become an accomplice to something, maybe we should go to dinner?"
"Alright," Sam caved, "Let's go."
So, Sam and Danny started to head out, Danny hoping they could put this behind them.
"Hold on," Sam stopped, "Do you have any of those sticky notes?"
Sam then took one of those sticky notes and the pen and started writing on it. When she was done, she put the sticky note on her chest. It simply said "Sam".
"Sam," Danny groaned, "Can we please just..."
Sam then grabbed another sticky note, wrote on it, and placed it on Danny's head. Danny removed the sticky note from his head and saw that it said "Lefou".
"Ok, I deserve that," Danny acknowledged.
"Oh, and one more thing," Sam teased.
Sam then leaned in and kissed Danny.
"I just wanted to remind you what it feels like to kiss someone you love," Sam charmed, "Now, let's go."
Danny really was lucky to have such an awesome girlfriend.
