Episode 6x08: Child Star
Synopsis: Superintendent Harris (Christopher Cousins) cashes in on his deal with Finn (Cory Monteith) and Rachel (Lea Michele), recruiting them and the New Directions to perform at his nephew Myron's (JJ Totah) bar mitzvah, alongside Vocal Adrenaline and the Warblers. Meanwhile, Spencer's (Marshall Williams) crush on Alistair (Finneas O'Connell) blossoms as he tries helping Roderick (Noah Guthrie) pass gym class, and Mason (Billy Lewis Jr.) struggles to balance his feelings for Jane (Samantha Marie Ware) and his relationship with his sister, Madison (Laura Dreyfuss).
"Sloppy babies! You're all sloppy babies! How do you expect to pass the Presidential Fitness Test when all you do is sit on your enormous rumps while picking at a forehead full of pimples, no doubt caused by consuming an entire bag of Funyuns in one sitting? Michael Phelps did not win 18 gold medals by swimming through a pool of pork rinds. You think this is hard? Try consuming your own twin in utero. That's hard." Sue shouted into her megaphone.
Gym glass in high school was one of either two things; your favorite part of the day, or the bane of your existence. No in-between. The jocks and the cool kids usually had a great time, playing basketball and getting to goof around with their friends, whereas the unathletic kids, or the "fatties" as Sue called them, struggled to get through a simple mile run. This week, however, students on both sides of the equation were being pushed to the test, as Sue pushed them all with the yearly fitness test. Her favorite part of the day was always the pacer test, when she pushed kids even further by unleashing the hounds to maximize the number of paces they were able to complete across the gym floor. Between this, the all-in investment on athletics like the football team, and the dietary overhaul that was the Sue Sylvester Three Point Plan, William McKinley High was on track to become one of the healthiest in the state, a sports juggernaut.
The biggest test of the day was the rope climb, the ultimate workout for your entire body. Upper body, core, arms, the whole nine yards. For a student like Spencer, who was a freak of nature on the football field and in the gym, that was no problem. He aced the rope climbing, hopping down from the rope like it was nobody's business. He flashed a smile to Coach Beiste, hoping to gain her approval, but then his eyes wandered to Alistair once again. Ever since this mysterious figure joined the musical and then the glee club, Spencer was enamored with him. Despite Spencer doing his best to get his crush's attention, however, most of the time he was ignored. A shot to his ego, certainly, but Spencer didn't let up easy.
After Spencer finished up on the rope climb, Roderick was next up. It was no secret that Roderick was one of the bigger guys at McKinley, this being due to Sue's constant tormenting of him, so he wasn't looking forward to his entire gym class staring at him as he attempted to make the climb. "I'm not leaving here until at least three of you pass out, or puke," Sue continued to ramble into the megaphone. She noticed Roderick stepping up to the mat, and stomped down off the bleachers. "Hey, look, everyone. It's Puffy's turn!" She blared. "Alright, Wiggle Tush, pretend there's a bucket of butterscotch pudding at the top of that rope. GO!"
Spencer, Alistair, Coach Beiste, and Sue all watched amongst the class as Roderick struggled to hoist himself up the rope. He barely made it off the ground. "Come on, kid," Beiste said in an encouraging tone. However, he was unsuccessful and flopped off the rope and onto the map. As everyone laughed, Beiste yelled, "HEY!" angrily, silencing them all. Roderick sighed, struggling to get up off the ground, as he looked around ashamedly.
The last nail in the coffin here was Sue. "You, sir, are a disgrace to yourself, your school and the nation."
"Sue, I think Roderick needs to rest for a minute," Beiste said defensively.
"Oh, absolutely, Shannon. Let's reward failure," Sue said judgingly. "While America struggles with type 2 diabetes, China conquers Mars." She grabbed the megaphone and yelled into it again. "Not on my watch!" She motioned back down to Roderick. "Come on, double stuff. Hoist yourself up there again. Hike up your shorts, please, before some poor soul falls into your butt crack."
The room began to stifle chuckles again, but this time, Spencer turned and stared threateningly at those who laughed, causing them to keep quiet. Roderick then tried pulling himself up again, but ultimately failed.
Roderick sadly walked down the halls after gym class, his headphones on blaring Grateful Dead, before he was stopped in the hallway by Spencer. He put his arms out in defense, before taking off his headphones.
"We have a problem," Spencer began.
"What's wrong?" Roderick asked.
"You can't climb a rope, you can't do a push-up, and you can't even do simple choreography," he lamented him. "If I'm going to be apart of this glee club, it behooves me to not be strapped to a lead weight. Spoiler alert, that's you," Spencer smacked Roderick in the stomach.
"Okay... then maybe you could help me?" Roderick asked.
"What?"
"Maybe you could help me?" He repeated. "I mean, I could try to do better-"
"Yeah, try. Try to try," Spencer cut him off. "If you just tried, that would be great."
A frustrated Roderick rolled his eyes and walked into his history class, ignoring Spencer's comments about not eating anymore gummy bears. Spencer looked into the classroom, still critiquing Roderick's every move, until his gaze fell upon Alistair, who was sitting next to Roderick in class. Spencer's glare softened, and he rushed inside to talk to the two of them, putting on an entirely new persona. "Hey buddy!" Spencer said to Roderick, taking off his letterman jacket and throwing it over his shoulder. "I'm gonna pick up some sheet music for you after class." Roderick looked at him like he had three heads, before Spencer's attention turned to Alistair. "Hey man, what's up? I'm Spencer."
Alistair looked at him up and down, and then looked at Roderick in confusion. "You know who I am... we're in glee club together?"
"Oh, Alistair, right!" Spencer said with a chuckle. "Must've not recognized you. You get a haircut?"
"You two are friends?" Alistair said, almost in disbelief as he looked between Spencer and Roderick.
"Me and Hot Rod?" Roderick practically did a double take, not ever being called that before, and definitely not by Spencer. "Hells yeah! We work out all the time together, too. I'm kind of like his personal trainer and inspiration."
Alistair stood up, confused as all hell. "I think I forgot something in my locker. I'll be right back, Roderick." He gently scooted past Spencer, looking at him in the eyes and saying, "See you in glee club, Spencer," before heading out into the hallway.
"Cool, yeah," Spencer called back, smiling before he looked back to Roderick.
"Was that you... flirting?" Roderick asked, practically in disbelief.
Spencer smirked. "You wouldn't understand, you're not a player like me."
Roderick laughed. "Well, that was the weirdest thing I've ever seen. You are not a player, you're kind of a creeper."
Spencer stared at him blankly, reconsidering his entire interaction with Alistair, before leaving the classroom in a hurry while Roderick continued to laugh at his flirtatious attempts.
As the bell rang to indicate class change, Finn and Rachel stepped into Principal Sylvester's office. It was still so weird to call it that; the amount of times they were in this office when Figgins was principal, both together and separately, was enough to give them deja vu every time they walked in. "You wanted to see us?" Finn asked, knocking on the doorway.
Sue sat at her desk, with the superintendent, Bob Harris, sitting across from her. "Ah, yes. Lady and the Tramp. Come on in, you little weasels," she said in an almost playful tone.
Despite how different her tone was from their typical interactions, Finn and Rachel entered. "Superintendent Harris, how are you?" Rachel asked nicely, reaching out to shake his hand.
"Great to see you both," Harris replied, before playfully punching Finn on the arm. "You and Principal Sylvester playing nice? No more of your students horsing around in the cafeteria after a musical number, right?"
"So far, so good," Finn said with a nervous laugh, avoiding eye contact with Sue. "So, uh, what brings you by?"
"I have a favor to ask of the two of you," Harris replied. "Rachel, do you remember the terms of our agreement?"
Rachel looked at Finn and nodded. "Yes, of course. Finn and I have been running the club swimmingly! You just missed our lesson on Carole King and Ala-"
"Yes, yes, I had all the faith in the world that the two of you would be working together," Harris interjected. "Do you remember the second part? About my nephew?"
"Myron?" Rachel asked, praying in her head that he wasn't about to ask what she thought he was.
Harris nodded. "I have a favor I'd like to cash in on."
In the auditorium, the glee club, Finn and Rachel sat in the stands as Sue stood on stage with a young boy. "Glee club, this fine young man standing next to me is Superintendent Harris's one and only nephew, Mr. Myron Muskovitz."
"Hey!" Myron waved cutely, with the New Directions all waving back.
"Myron is about to celebrate the most important day in a Jewish boy's life, his bar mitzvah," Sue continued. Rachel put her hands over her heart, as Jake gave him a thumbs up in the crowd. "It's a sacred ritual in which he becomes a man, and thus a full-fledged member of the Jewish community."
"I'm putting on a show!" Myron shouted, winking into the crowd, specifically at Marley. She and Roderick exchanged nervous glances.
Sue chuckled nervously herself. "Myron will be performing a little musical number at his bar mitzvah party, and your fearless leader Rachel Berry has volunteered your entire club to perform as well!"
The glee club all looked shocked and upset by this, basically all turning back to Rachel and Finn with looks of frustration in their eyes. "What is she talking about?" Bree demanded through gritted teeth.
"Don't we need to focus on Sectionals?" Ryder asked in agreement.
Rachel cleared her throat, sitting up. "Actually, Sue, I believe Superintendent Harris and I only discussed me performing at Myron's bar mitzvah."
"Did I mention that he is the superintendent's nephew?" Sue stressed. Finn sighed, knowing exactly what this meant; they had no choice but to have the glee club perform at the party. It was likely what he wanted all along.
Sue walked off stage, leaving Myron alone. "I wanted to give you guys a rundown of what my solo performance would be like," he explained, "so you know what to based yours on. This is just a rehearsal, so be kind!"
{The curtains behind him were pulled apart as backup dancers entered onto the stage. Myron ripped off his coat to reveal a gold vest and white suit/pants, shocking the entire glee club (as well as Finn, Rachel and Sue), as he went off into his performance.}
Hit me
Can you keep up?
Baby boy, make me lose my breath
Bring the noise, make me lose my breath
Hit me hard, make me lose my (huh-huh)
Ooh
I put it right there, made it easy for you to get to
Now you want to act like ya don't know what to do
After I done everything that you ask me
Grabbed you, grind you, liked you, tried you
Move so fast, baby, now I can't find you
Can you keep up?
Baby boy, make me lose my breath
Bring the noise, make me lose my breath
Hit me hard, make me lose my (huh-huh)
Can you keep up?
Baby boy, make me lose my breath
Bring the noise, make me lose my breath
Hit me hard, make me lose my breath (huh-huh)
If you can't make me say ooh
Like the beat of this drum
Why you askin' for some
You ain't really want none
If you can't make me say ooh
Like the beat of this groove
You don't have no business in this
Here's your papers, baby, you are dismissed
Can you keep up?
Baby boy, make me lose my breath
Bring the noise, make me lose my breath
Hit me hard, make me lose my (huh-huh)
Can you keep up?
Baby boy, make me lose my breath
Bring the noise, make me lose my breath
Hit me hard, make me lose my breath (huh-huh)
Can you keep up?
Baby boy, make me lose my breath
Bring the noise, make me lose my breath
Hit me hard, make me lose my (huh-huh)
The glee club nervously applauded as Myron skipped to the front of the stage, eager to hear the kids sing his praises.
"That was amazing!" Rachel clapped. "Myron, you are very talented."
"Thank you, Miss Berry," Myron gushed. "I'm a huge fan, so that means the world to me." He quickly got serious. "Here's the rub; I want my bar mitzvah to be perfect. Not good, not great; perfect. How can I improve this number? Seriously, give me notes. Anything."
Everyone looked around the room frantically; Marley made eye contact with Finn, who gave her the go ahead to speak. "Maybe your dancers could smile a little bit more?" She suggested.
"Exactly!" Myron panted, out of breath from performing. "I already told them that." He turned to his dancers and began shouting. "I already told you that! What's wrong with you people? I thought I hired professionals, but I was mistaken. You're fired! Get off the stage, now, bitches!" He turned around, looking at the glee kids sweetly again. "May I speak with the adults, please?"
The glee club filed out of the auditorium, leaving Myron alone with Finn, Rachel and Sue. "This stage is sheer heaven," Myron said happily. "My uncle said I can use it for my party if it's okay with you? Please?"
"Of course you can," Sue replied.
"Thank you!" Myron clapped. "You're my new best friend." He turned to Finn and Rachel. "I'd be happy to pay the glee club to be my opening act. Let's say... 20 grand?"
Finn was flabbergasted. "Well, uh, that's very generous, but unfortunately, show choir bylaws forbid us from accepting any compensation."
"Okay, then you can do it for free!" Myron cheered. "It will give your kids invaluable stage experience."
"Yeah, totally," Finn replied. "We've actually got Sectionals next week, so it will be good for us to-"
Myron interrupted him, noticing a backup dancer still backstage. "I THOUGHT I TOLD YOU TO LEAVE, SKANK! GO, NOW!" She scurried off, turning back to Finn and Rachel. "Sorry about that. Yes, Sectionals! I'll be there watching, although I will be rooting for my friends in the blazers. Sorry!"
Rachel laughed. "Oh, uh, are you a fan of the Warblers?"
"He attends Dalton Academy's lower school," Sue replied.
"They have a lower school?" Finn wondered aloud.
"They sure do!" Myron said cheerfully. "It'll be a ton of fun to see the New Directions and Dalton Academy go head to head at my party. It'll be a little scrimmage before the big game at Sectionals!"
Finn and Rachel's heads whipped over towards Sue. "Wait, what?" They asked in unison.
Walking down the hallway, Sue sort of listened to Finn and Rachel as they followed after her, voicing their concerns. "So you're telling me that the Warblers and Vocal Adrenaline are going to be present at Myron's bar mitzvah?" Finn asked angrily.
"What the Superintendent wants, the Superintendent gets," Sue replied, not even looking at the two of them. "He wants all of his top schools represented at this party. All of his friends from the district are going to be there so, I think he wants to rub it in their faces a little bit."
"Sue, we are mortal enemies with Vocal Adrenaline," Rachel complained. "Plus, we don't exactly see eye-to-eye with Mr. Schue and Blaine right now."
"Who?" Sue asked.
"Who?" Rachel repeated, confused. "Me and Finn."
"No, no. Who asked?" Sue replied, landing her joke hook, line and sinker. "Got that one from Becky. Now, listen here, Frodo. Your personal relationships do not matter to me in the grand scheme of things, but they certainly don't matter right now. I am in the running for the United States Principal of the Year award, so I need to secure a letter of recommendation from the Superintendent."
"Really?" Finn asked, with a raised eyebrow. "Isn't it a little early to be considering that? The school year isn't even halfway through."
"This is what we call playing the long game, Finn Hudson!" She smacked him in the gut, before sighing. "Not nearly as satisfying as patronizing your student who looks like Control Freak from Teen Titans. You used to be that size, though."
"I was never-"
"You two sad saps are gonna have to leave your feelings at the door and learn to co-exist with William and Midget Filipino Fonzie for one night," Sue interrupted. "Plus, like the little boy said. Think of it as a scrimmage before the big game. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to research party themes to make a little Jewish boy happy. Perhaps my findings will be used to make Rachel Berry smile one of these days."
She walked off, leaving Finn and Rachel in the dust. She sighed, running her hands through her hair. "Finn, what are we going to do?" She complained. "We haven't talked to Mr. Schue since he stole our High School Musical idea, and you can't be in the same room as Blaine."
"We'll figure it out," Finn promised. "This is perfect prep for Sectionals. Let's get the kids in a competitive mood, and get them fired up before next week."
"There's still the glaring issue that we need one more person to be able to compete in the first place," she whined. "Kitty won't answer any of my texts. We're screwed."
"Hey, don't talk like that," Finn said reassuringly. "We'll figure things out; let's just get through this birthday party and go from there, okay?"
Rachel pouted, resting her head on Finn's shoulder as the two walked off, his arm around her waist.
Simultaneously as Finn and Rachel's conversation, Jane was at her locker when she was startled by a gentle tap to her head. "Knock, knock!" She turned to find Mason standing behind her, with a bright smile on his face.
"Hey Mason!" She said, smiling back as her heart fluttered, closing her locker.
"How's it going?" He asked.
"I've been better," Jane replied as the two walked together. "I got a C on my math test."
Mason nodded. "When I have a bad day, I usually drown my sorrows in endless breadsticks at Breadstix."
"Is it as good as they say?" Jane inquired, hands in her pockets.
Mason stopped, causing Jane to stop walking herself and look to him. "Have you never been?"
"My mom says it's infested with cockroaches."
"Oh, no, it's okay, they fumigated," Mason reassured her. "Maybe I could take you next week? I could teach you how to eat your feelings."
Jane's smile grew as large as the Grinch's heart when she heard him ask her out. The two had a few interactions here and there since she transferred to McKinley, but she definitely found him attractive from the first moment they met at the bowling alley during Grease 2 rehearsals. She knew for sure she had a crush on him during their duet during last week's assignment. "I-"
Unfortunately, as was the case with most of their interactions, they were cut short by his sister Madison. "Mmm, where are we eating?" She asked, clutching her brother's arm.
"Um, Breadstix..." Jane answered for her.
"Breadstix?" Madison looked up at Mason. "No. Mason, we've talked about this. It's crunch time in Cheerios season and we're completely overhauling your diet, no carbs. We need you lean and mean." She looked over at Jane and smiled. "Jane, it was nice talking to you," she said, dismissing her before looking back to her brother and saying, "Walk me to class?"
She dragged Mason along, leaving Jane alone, as Mason looked back at her with an apologetic look on his face. Jane just stood there in shock. Mason was incredibly frustrated, so he knew what he needed to do.
"Thanks for coming, guys," Mason said, conducting a New Directions boys meeting in the locker room. Spencer, Roderick, Jake, Ryder and Alistair sat before him. "I have kind of a weird problem, so I'd prefer if it stays in this room." He looked to his teammates. "I've been trying to talk to Jane lately..."
"Why?" Ryder asked.
"She's really talented and gorgeous," Mason answered. "However, I'm having some trouble. I want to take her out, but my sister is screwing everything up."
"Aren't you guys dating?" Spencer asked.
"Ha, ha," Mason laughed with sarcasm.
"I'm just kidding... but seriously, aren't you guys dating?"
Mason sighed in frustration. "We didn't have it easy growing up," he explained. "Our parents were more concerned with performing than being our parents, so Madison kind of acted like a second mom. She's been treating me like a small child my entire life, every second of every day. I just can't function... so I need her out of my way for a little bit. I need one of you to ask her out and distract her."
"Well, Alistair and I are out, since he and I are on the other team... like Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez, right, man?" Spencer said, leaning over to try and high five Alistair, continuing his weird approach of hitting on him, which didn't work.
Jake shook his head. "I'm still sort of trying to make things work with Marley, so I don't want to make things more complicated, even if this was just for pretend."
Mason looked at Roderick and Ryder, who just looked at each other and quickly shook their heads. "You just got done telling us how crazy your sister is," Roderick pointed out. "No way."
"I'm with Roderick," Ryder said. "I'm sorry, but I can't."
"Come on, guys, help me out here!" Mason pleaded.
"Look, we'd love to help, but there's only so much we can do," Alistair said gently, standing up and putting his hand on Mason's shoulder. "Just try talking things out with Madison. She might be able to understand if you just vocalize your feelings. I gotta run, but keep us posted." He smiled and exited the locker room.
Jake sighed as the rest of the guys stood up, prepared to disperse as well. "Alistair may have a point..."
"Of course he does," Spencer scoffed in a douchey tone before pointing to Mason. "Help yourself by telling your sister to back off, so you can score some tail. Simple." He turned his attention to Roderick. "You, you're gonna meet me in the gym after school so I can whip your ass into shape, and then you're gonna help me get a date with my boy."
"How did this become about you guys?" Mason asked, but his question was left unanswered as Spencer, Roderick, Jake and Ryder all filed out of the locker room, leaving him to ponder Alistair's advice.
"Okay guys, let's huddle up," Finn said, ringing in the glee club meeting of the day. "It's time we talk about our performance at the bar mitzvah."
"You mean that spoiled little rich kid's birthday party?" Bree asked, with a roll of her eyes.
"Uh, it's a bar mitzvah!" Rachel gasped. "Have you guys had any Jewish life experiences?" Jake raised his hand, as Rachel smiled and nodded towards him. "Tell us about it, Jake."
"I received a ton of cash."
"Okay... but it's more than that!" She squealed. "This is a sacred honor!"
Unique raised her hand. "Unique isn't exactly thrilled about this."
"What, why?" Finn asked.
"Are we actually going to sing, or are you about to announce an alumnus walking through the door?" She replied. "Because Unique is infuriated that Boo-Boo the Bear got to sing Beyonce while she sat on the sidelines."
"Do you always talk in the third person?" Spencer asked.
"This is all about you guys," Finn assured them. "I know we've had some guest visitors in this room, what with the musicals and Thanksgiving being last week, but we are trusting you with this. The clock is ticking, with Sectionals on the horizon, so don't underestimate this challenge. There is no tougher audience than-"
"Jews?" Bree asked.
"Tweens..." Rachel answered. "Vicious, pubescent tweens with zero tolerance for a bad act." She cleared her throat. "But, also... we were informed by Principal Sylvester that the Warblers and Vocal Adrenaline will be performing, too."
The kids all stared at Finn and Rachel, with mixed faces of frustration, shock and anger amongst them. "Wait, what?" Marley cried. "When were you going to tell us that?"
"We were only told right after Myron's performance," Finn defended themselves. "This was the first chance we were able to tell you."
"So is this Principal Sylvester's way of trying to psych us out before Sectionals?" Jane complained.
"We're screwed," Madison panicked.
"Guys, listen," Finn said, keeping his composure. "I understand your frustrations; believe me, Rachel and I aren't pleased either. But let's use this moment as fuel for our fire. We don't need to worry about Vocal Adrenaline yet, but the Warblers are going to be our competition this week. Take this opportunity to study your opponent, figure out what their strengths and weaknesses are... and then we can use that against them in Sectionals. Plus, I know some of us have something to prove against these guys." He looked over at Jane, who nodded, knowing what he meant.
"Finn is right," Rachel added. "This isn't ideal, but we have to take advantage of the cards we've been dealt. So pair up, triple up, and pick some songs. This is going to be great. We want upbeat, energy, epic. Let's get to work!"
The glee club was a bit more enthused after Finn and Rachel's mini speech, as they began to huddle up and put their heads together with some ideas for Myron's party. Mason tried to stand up quickly and take advantage of the situation by pulling Jane aside and discussing another duet, but once again was interrupted by Madison.
"This is incredible," Madison said in an excited tone. "Were we not just talking about gender role-reversal duets? Were we not? Mason, I'm freaking out. My short list is a long one, so we should start brainstorming. Hello?" She knocked on his head, as he kept trying to look over at Jane as she was talking. "Focus! Huge opportunity knocking at the front door."
"I-I'm in," he said in a frustrated tone, looking at Jane again before reluctantly sitting down with his sister to begin brainstorming.
At lunch later that day, Finn and Rachel were awkwardly joined by Blaine and Mr. Schue. The tension was thicker than a bowl of oatmeal. The last few interactions between this bunch consisted of an argument between Rachel and Mr. Schue at Vocal Adrenaline's Sectionals, and then Finn and Blaine's argument after Jane transferred to McKinley. In fact, the four of them hadn't even been in the same room since they had dinner at the beginning of the school year.
Blaine spoke first, wanting to try and break the ice as he looked around the break room. "I always wanted to eat lunch in the teacher's lounge," he said jokingly. "The only time I ever truly set foot in here was during Sam, Tina and I's lock-in."
"Is it everything you thought it would be?" Mr. Schue asked. The two of them were on good terms, so they had no issue conversing amongst each other.
"Pretty much," Blaine said with a small laugh.
Finn cleared his throat. "So, Mr. Schue, congratulations on your Sectionals victory."
"Thanks Finn," he replied. "I guess I'll see one of you two at Regionals then, huh?"
"Oh, yes. I'll be looking forward to it," Blaine answered quickly, shooting Finn a glare.
"What makes you so sure it'll be you?" Finn questioned.
"Maybe starting with the fact that I have enough members to compete?" Blaine argued back. "And, if I know how the New Directions operate, I actually have a setlist prepared and ready to go ahead of time."
Rachel rolled her eyes at that comment. "Well, be careful, Blaine. If you do beat us and get to Regionals, Mr. Schuester will probably steal some of your ideas before you get the chance to execute them."
"For God's sake, Rachel, I did not steal your High School Musical idea!" Mr. Schue insisted.
"I have it in writing!" Rachel yelled. "I can pull up the email right now."
"I never received it," he argued.
"Likely story," Rachel mumbled.
"Don't worry, Mr. Schue, she'll probably get back at you by stealing Clint from you for their team," Blaine said sassily.
Finn laughed. "Did your boss that you sleep with tell you to say that?"
As the four show choir directors continued to bicker with each other, their fighting was quickly silenced by the shattering of a mug in the teachers lounge. The four of them all looked over towards the coffee pot to find Sue, who stared into oblivion with a shattered mug in front of her feet. "Sue, you doing okay?" Mr. Schue asked.
"No, actually. I haven't slept for three days," she replied. "I have become the personal slave of one Myron Muskovitz. We start the day with a series of vitamin-B drips, and the eight hour pitch session begins. Then he asks Janet for an espresso, as if every bean was cultivated specifically for him. Lastly, every night is spent reading the Torah aloud while Myron sleeps, so he can absorb the bit he has to read at his bar mitzvah without having to memorize it himself."
"This kid sounds like a nightmare," Mr. Schue said. "This has to stop."
"Oh it will, once you, Buttchin Jr., Mrs. Buttchin Jr., Buttchin Jr.'s ex brother-in-law and I agree to become backup singers and dancers for his big solo number."
"Wait, what?" Rachel gasped.
"Are you serious?" Finn asked.
"We are his last resort," Sue replied. "He blew his entire entertainment budget on airfare for a callback of 100 dancers, in which there was no dancing. He just called them in, one at a time, to ask if their allergies were as bad as his that day."
"This is ridiculous," Blaine complained. "The four of us can't even eat lunch together, let alone work together on a choreographed number. This isn't going to work."
"Have I mentioned that his uncle is the superintendent?" Sue asked.
The four of them collectively groaned. In the words of Principal Figgins, their hands were tied.
"Hey, Jane!" Mason called from one end of the hallway, rushing through the crowd of McKinley students to get to her as a wave of students headed to the cafeteria. As he battled through the crowd, he finally caught up to her. "Hey!"
"Hi!" She said with a laugh.
"You know, I was thinking, we should probably do this bar mitzvah duet together."
"We would kill it," Jane agreed, "but I'm already paired with Roderick."
"Is Roderick taking you out for pizza after rehearsal?" He asked with a raised eyebrow, hoping she would realize what he was asking.
"Is pizza part of Madison's deal-a-meal plan?" Jane replied playfully.
"I won't tell if you won't," Mason said quickly, their flirtatious energy bouncing off each other. "I'm kind of a badass."
"The only badass I know that's also a male cheerleader."
"Well, you know what they say about cheerleaders!"
"What?"
Mason's mind went blank, not able to think of something clever on the spot. "Um... good things, mostly."
Jane giggled, as Mason smiled, realizing his dumb comment may have just paid off after all. "Listen, if you let everyone know that we're switching partners, then I am all yours. Cool?"
He blushed. "Cool!"
Quickly making his way to the cafeteria, he found Roderick in the buffet line, running up behind him and grabbing him by the shoulders. "Hey, Roderick! Change of plans, you're gonna sing a duet with my sister and I'm gonna sing with Jane. Awesome. Thank you."
Roderick stammered, "I don't want to do that," but it was too late, as Mason had made his way down the buffet line to find his sister.
"What's up, buttercup?" Madison asked with a smile as her brother approached her.
"Nothing, nothing," he replied nervously. "The bar mitzvah thing? You're gonna sing with Roderick, I'm gonna sing with Jane."
"Why?" She asked. "You already did that with her last week."
"I know, but I wanna do it again," Mason said, trying to impose confidence.
"No, you don't," Madison said commandingly as Mason frowned. "One, she has beautiful legs, so no one will be looking at yours. Two, she has that huge hair that she loves to toss around and upstage everybody with."
"That's insane," Mason laughed, hoping to play this off as a joke between siblings. "I just wanna sing with her! Maybe go on a date with her..."
Madison looked at him like a deer in headlights. "No. Massive mistake, Mason, I won't allow it."
"This isn't your decision to make, Madison," Mason said sternly, finally sticking up for himself and his feelings. She had been stepping in between his chances with Jane, whether knowingly or unknowingly, for weeks and he had enough. "For once in your life, quit being so darn controlling."
"FINE," Madison yelled, catching the attention of the entire cafeteria. "See what I care. I certainly don't want to be controlling. While you're at it, why don't you just never listen to me again? Like the time I told you not to eat an entire bag of sugar-free gummy bears, and you had diarrhea, and everyone thought it was a mudslide!" She ran out of the cafeteria, dropping her tray on the ground and leaving in a panic.
Mason stood there, watching her leave, as he was approached by Jane, who had witnessed the entire interaction. "Hey..." she said gently. "I think it would be easier for everyone if I just sang with Roderick." She walked away, leaving Mason even more frustrated than he was before. He decided right then and there that he wasn't singing with Madison at that bar mitzvah, but he knew exactly what he wanted to perform as a solo act.
{The scene cuts to Madison running through the hallway, accidentally knocking into Alistair as she continues to run off. Alistair goes to pick up his books; he is helped by Spencer. Alistair thanks him awkwardly and walks off before Spencer has a chance to say anything further, leading into a montage of Spencer singing his solo around the school and in the choir room for Finn, Rachel, and the glee club}
I don't care if Monday's blue
Tuesday's gray and Wednesday too
Thursday I don't care about you
It's Friday, I'm in love
Monday you can fall apart
Tuesday, Wednesday, break my heart
Oh, Thursday doesn't even start
It's Friday, I'm in love
Saturday wait
And Sunday always comes too late
But Friday never hesitate
Dressed up to the eyes
It's a wonderful surprise
To see your shoes and your spirits rise
Throwing out your frown
And just smiling at the sound
And as sleek as a shriek spinning 'round and 'round
Always take a big bite
It's such a gorgeous sight
To see you eat in the middle of the night
You can never get enough
Enough of this stuff
It's Friday, I'm in love
I don't care if Monday's blue
Tuesday's gray and Wednesday too
Thursday I don't care about you
It's Friday, I'm in love
Monday you can fall apart
Tuesday, Wednesday, break my heart
Thursday doesn't even start
It's Friday, I'm in love
The glee club all clapped for Spencer, except for Roderick, which Spencer caught note of and kept in the back of his mind. He did, however, take note that Alistair enjoyed the performance. Rachel spoke up after the claps subsided. "Spencer, that was amazing. A love song! Not what we would expect from you."
"Yeah, it was a great song, definitely, but probably not what we're looking to do at the bar mitzvah," Finn added. "Although, I'd love to throw a new combination in there... maybe something with you and Jane? Maybe Roderick?"
Spencer scoffed, using now as the time to call out Roderick. "I don't care if you wanna throw other people in the mix or pick another song, but I don't think I should have to sing with a quitter like Roderick."
"I'm not a quitter," Roderick said in an offended tone.
"Could've fooled me!" Spencer snapped back.
"Guys?" Finn said, standing up. "The point of this is to band together as a team."
"Yeah, what's going on here?" Rachel asked.
"I'll tell you what the problem is, Rachel," Spencer began, pointing at Roderick.
The scene cuts to a flashback of Spencer and Roderick in the gym, as Spencer tries coaching Roderick to climb up the rope, but he quickly fails.
"That was pathetic!" Spencer ridiculed. "You have the athleticism of a couch cushion."
Roderick got up, dusting himself off, rolling his eyes at him. "None of your tough love, drill seargent crap is helping me at all."
"Don't be so sensitive."
"Sensitive?" Roderick snapped. "I've been taunted and teased about this kind of thing my entire life."
"Sometimes this stuff is ugly," Spencer replied, trying to reason with him in his own, Spencer kind of way. "When the guys on the football team work out, it gets messy, and it hurts."
"I'm not on the football team," Roderick pointed out, yelling at Spencer.
Spencer quickly got frustrated. "You know what? You're right. You're too fat and too lazy."
{The scene cuts back to the auditorium following Spencer's solo}
"So, that's the problem," Spencer said, concluding the callback. "Roderick here is lazy and isn't giving his all. He's holding the team back."
"This is why Alistair doesn't want to go out with you," Roderick said angrily, standing up from the crowd. "No one wants to get close to you because you're a dick." Before Finn or Rachel could say anything to interject, Roderick got up and stormed out of the choir room, with his bag in hand. Spencer typically would've made another snarky remark, but he was upset by the comment Roderick made about Alistair specifically.
Wow, the New Directions were truly molding together!
The next evening was Myron's bar mitzvah; the entire McKinley High auditorium was decorated, head to toe, and was filled with Myron's friends from school and his extracurricular activities, as well as Superintendent Harris's friends and colleagues. The curtain opened up, revealing Myron on stage in a silver suit. "Hello, everyone! We've got a great slate of entertainers, some might even say show choir royalty; Vocal Adrenaline, the Dalton Academy Warblers, and the New Directions. To kick things off, let's give it up for McKinley High's Mason McCarthy!"
{The crowd cheered as the show began, with Mason performing a solo, the lyrics aimed towards Madison and her treatment of him, as well as his feelings for Jane}
I want to break free, I want to break free
I want to break free from your lies
You're so self-satisfied I don't need you
I've got to break free
God knows, God knows I want to break free
I've fallen in love
I've fallen in love for the first time
This time I know it's for real
I've fallen in love, yeah
God knows, God knows I've fallen in love
It's strange but it's true, hey
I can't get over the way you love me like you do
But I have to be sure when I walk out that door
Oh, I want to be free, baby
Oh, how I want to be free
Oh, I want to break free
But life still goes on
I can't get used to living without, living without
Living without you by my side
I don't want to live alone, hey
God knows, got to make it on my own
So, baby, can't you see I've got to break free?
I've got to break free
I want to break free, yeah
I want, I want, I want
I want to break free
Mason ran off stage to greet not his sister Madison, but Jane, who stood on the other end of the auditorium. A frustrated Madison walked off, as Mason and Jane embraced and celebrated on the other side of the fence.
Backstage, after Mason's performance, Jane sat as she prepared for her own, while the other members of the New Directions did the same. As she tied her shoes she felt someone stand over her, and when she looked up, she saw Skylar and a few other members of the Warblers before her. "Hey, Jane," Skylar said, offering out his hand to shake hers. "Good to see you!"
Jane, still holding a grudge due to her rejection from the Warblers, declined his handshake, but stood up to face him as a person. "Skylar."
Skylar looked to his fellow Warblers, noticing the obvious tension brewing from Jane. "Listen, we wanted to wish you good luck tonight, and at Sectionals," he explained. "We came to your school's production of High School Musical and we thought you were great. I hope there are no hard feelings - it was nothing personal."
Jane stared directly at him, not even blinking an eye. "It sure seemed personal to me. If I was so great, why not let me onto the Warblers in the first place?"
Skylar just laughed nervously. "The Warblers are currently trying to salvage our reputation after numerous disgraces," he explained. "This is a new generation trying to rebuild what came before us. We aren't looking to reinvent the wheel here."
Jane nodded. "Well, good luck to you too," she said in a frustrated tone. "I'm happy here at McKinley. And we will win at Sectionals." She walked off, with Skylar watching her leave. He shook his head; he tried to make peace with her, and if she wasn't willing to accept that then that was on her.
On stage, Skylar heard Myron begin speaking and quickly took position. "Next up tonight, let's give it up for my hometown team; the Dalton Academy Warblers!"
[Skylar]
Yo, Warblers
I said
Suckin' too hard on your lollipop
Or love's gonna get you down (girl)
I said
[Skylar and the Warblers]
Sucking too hard on your lollipop
Or love's gonna get you down
Sucking too hard on your lollipop
Or love's gonna get you down
Sucking too hard on your lollipop
Or love's gonna get you down
Say love, say love
Or love's gonna get you down
Say love, say love
Or love's gonna get you down
[Skylar]
I went walkin' with my mama one day
When she warned me what people say
Live your life until love is found
'Cause love's gonna get you down
Take a look at the girl next door
She's a player and a down right bore
Jesus loves her, she wants more
Oh bad girls get you down
Singing
[Skylar and the Warblers]
Sucking too hard on your lollipop
Or love's gonna get you down
Sucking too hard on your lollipop
Or love's gonna get you down
Say love, say love
Or love's gonna get you down
Say love, say love
Or love's gonna get you down
The crowd roared with applause. Skylar bowed and then shot a glance over at Jane, who watched again from the sideline, this time with anger and not with support as she did with Mason.
In the McKinley ballet studio, Finn, Rachel, and Sue sat around as Mr. Schue angrily was holding his head. Blaine rushed in, panting, "Sorry I'm late. I just had to see Skylar and the rest of the crew perform. They did great."
"That's great to hear, Blaine," Mr. Schue sighed as he shoved his phone back into his pocket before pointing at him, and then Finn and Rachel. "At least your show choirs are actually performing tonight."
Finn and Rachel looked at each other with a confused look. "What do you mean?" Finn asked.
"I just got a text from Clint," Mr. Schue explained. "Vocal Adrenaline isn't coming."
"Uh, did you give them a choice?" Rachel asked.
"They said they didn't want to perform for a spoiled rich kid's birthday party, especially when that kid goes to a competing school," he sighed. "I've tried on numerous occasions to break through to these kids, but they constantly disrespect me, undermine my authority. They think because they've already secured a Regionals slot that they can do whatever they want, regardless of what I say."
Sue just shook her head and began to make her way to the exit. "What are you doing?" Blaine asked.
"Oh, well if William's students can walk all over him like a used doormat, then so can I," Sue replied. "I'm not doing this concert for Myron, simply because I don't want to."
"Sue, hang on!" Mr. Schue insisted. "This is something that you volunteered us to do, and now you're going to walk out on us?"
"I don't care about heel steps or point turns, or old-timey sayings found on grandma sweatshirts," Sue retorted back. "And, evidently, neither do your students at Carmel. It baffles me how I, Sue Sylvester, secured you a dream job at Vocal Adrenaline, one of the best show choirs in America, and within minutes you've found a way to screw it up." She smacked him on the shoulder. "But hey, better there than here at McKinley, huh?" She paused for a second. "On second thought, William, I would prefer it if you were here getting disrespected by teenagers and doing a terrible job coaching, because then I would be at liberty to fire you and cash in on your severance without you realizing it." She smacked her teeth and shook her head at him, calling him pathetic before leaving the ballet studio.
Mr. Schue took a heavy sigh and frustratedly sat down. Rachel glanced over at Finn, motioning for him to leave so she could have a moment alone with their old teacher. He hesitated, but ultimately obliged, elbowing Blaine to do the same, leading the two to awkwardly walk out of the ballet studio together. Rachel took a step over to Mr. Schue and took a seat next to him. "I'm sorry to hear that your kids left you out to dry, Mr. Schue."
"I'm sure you're thrilled about this," he replied. "Less of a chance for them to plagiarize against you."
She pursed her lips and shook her head. "I'm sorry," she said. "I was totally out of line to assume that you would betray Finn and I." Rachel sighed. "It was pretty obvious that Sue was meddling and I should've seen through that."
Mr. Schue nodded. "Yeah, it was pretty foolish of us to assume she had changed. I just thought that she turned over a new leaf when she helped me get the Carmel gig."
"Well, you saw how she just spoke to you," Rachel pointed out. "It was only a matter of time before her true colors showed."
"Well, thank you for your apology, Rachel."
"You know what's funny?" Rachel asked. "Even through this little feud, you indirectly taught me a very valuable lesson; being devoted to your kids. This job is a lot harder than you made it out to be when you were teaching us. The whole reason I even accused you was because I thought you were taking away an opportunity from them."
"I understand," he answered. "It's admirable, the way you and Finn have been leading these guys so far. Between you and me, it's a lot harder to be devoted to these kids on the other side of the fence, especially when I don't particularly like them." They shared a brief chuckle. "I can't believe we fell for a classic Sue Sylvester scheme," he reiterated in a dumbfounded tone.
"It is pretty typical of her," Rachel laughed.
"Appreciate her while it lasts," he advised. "A good nemesis only makes you better." He stood up and then offered to help Rachel up, which she took advantage of. "One last thing, Rachel. I know you're helping Finn out for school credit, but don't forget about the end goal. You've done a phenomenal job here with the glee club, but this is Finn's dream, not yours. You have to go back to New York when it's time."
She blinked. "Why do you say that?"
"I just want you to remember the world outside of Lima, Ohio. You're bigger than this place, and we all know it. Finn, too. Don't let your feelings get in the way; he'll understand when it's time."
She smiled gently and nodded. "Thank you, Mr. Schue." The two hugged and then she stepped out in the hallway to wave Finn and Blaine in to continue rehearsing.
After the boys returned, Myron followed shortly thereafter, dragging Sue by the ear. They all turned, with Mr. Schue smirking. "Welcome back, Suzie Q. What made you change your mind?"
"I'm the superintendent's nephew," Myron smiled, answering for Sue.
In the choir room, Mason sifted through a rack of clothes as he prepared to change into his outfit for the group numbers. Out of the corner of his eye he felt the presence of his sister, so he turned to look at her and glared. "Look, I already know what you're going to say."
"No you don't," she replied, walking into the choir room. "Your performance up there was really moving..." Madison sat down next to Mason in the chairs. "It reminded me how gifted you are, and how crazy I've become."
"You're not crazy," Mason insisted, looking back towards his sister, who gave him a look. "Okay, maybe a little nutty?" He changed his tone.
"I'm not gonna lie, I was terrified and jealous when I found out that you had an interest in Jane. I couldn't stand the fact that I wasn't the only lady in your life anymore." Mason nodded, not realizing how weird that statement was, but understood what she was implying. Madison continued, "The truth is, actually, I'm kind of relieved. You don't need me anymore, and maybe you never did."
"I'll always need you, Madison!" Mason replied. "I just need more room for some other people, so you're not the only person in my life."
Madison giggled. "I'm just so used to taking care of you and looking after you, not really because I wanted to, but because I felt like I had to."
"You know that I'm a better person because of you."
Madison grinned, tearing up slightly. "Well, I'm a better person because of you, too." The two laughed together and then shared a hug. They pulled apart and smiled at each other, before Madison just had to break the silence. "Okay, but I'm just going to say it. Jane is a total stage hog."
"Madison."
"Well, she is!" She whined, but began to laugh as Mason realized she was joking.
Their sweet sibling moment was interrupted by blood curdling screams coming from the auditorium. It was like the shot heard around the world. The two looked at each other seriously, before rushing out of the choir room to find out what was going on.
Mason and Madison rushed into the choir room to find the New Directions, Finn and Rachel, Sue, and even Mr. Schue, Blaine, Skylar and the Warblers all looking up at a stage pod that Sue was trying to pull down. "What's going on?" Madison asked frantically.
"Myron got into his stage pod early," Marley explained. "He's trapped in there."
"GET ME OUT OF HERE!" Myron shrieked on the inside.
Mr. Schue ran over to the rope and tried yanking it down, but no dice. "The rope is stuck on that pulley," he explained, pointing up into the rafters. "It's not budging."
Sue, remembering gym class from earlier in the week, pointed at Spencer. "Postmodern Gay, use those thighs to wiggle up this rope and get that thing down."
Spencer looked at her and scoffed. "You can forget it, Sue."
Alistair looked at him with a shocked expression on his face. "We've gotta get him down! What is wrong with you?"
"I know," he replied. "But there's only one man for the job." Spencer turned around and pointed to Roderick, placing a hand on his shoulder before Roderick could protest. "I know that I was a dick before, but I was the wrong kind of dick. This time, I'm being the right kind of dick and I'm telling you that you can do this."
"Okay, can we stop saying that word and do something about Myron, please?" Rachel squealed. "Before Superintendent Harris finds out and gets us all fired?"
"Roderick's got this!" Spencer insisted, shoving Roderick forward.
Roderick stared up at the rope, feeling every set of eyes backstage staring down at him, with the pressure truly on at this point. Okay, Roderick, he thought. Time to man up. His heart pounding, he took one last deep breath. "Give me a pair of gloves." Ryder quickly grabbed one and tossed it over to him, Roderick quickly putting them on as the entire glee club began chanting 'Do it!'. He looked at Spencer, who smiled and chanted encouragingly. I guess I can do this? Roderick thought again.
Roderick hoisted himself up the rope, the adrenaline pumping through him as he used his strength to climb up and loosen the rope's wedge enough to release it, the system slowly running through to lower both Roderick himself and Myron's pod. Everyone began to cheer as Jake and Mason rushed over to help break Myron out of the pod. As Roderick landed on the ground he was immediately greeted by Spencer, panting, "I can't believe I did that."
"In emergencies, even babies can lift cars!" Spencer cheered.
"Great work, guys," Finn complimented the two of them. "Spencer, you're up on stage. Let's go."
"Actually," Spencer said. "I think Roderick and Jane should go ahead and take my spot. Let's give Roderick a reward for his hard work and Jane a chance to show those snotty gay kids what they're missing."
"We're right here!" Skylar said, throwing up his arms in exasperation at his comment.
Spencer looked at Jane and Roderick. "What do you say?"
Jane smiled as she got a nod of encouragement from Mason. "I'm in."
He looked over at Roderick, who nodded his head too, as he and Jane rushed out on stage. While Spencer watched them proudly, another set of eyes fell on him from behind; Alistair, who looked at him with intrigue of his own.

Backstage as the AV crew set up for Myron's performance with the adults, Alistair took a chance to walk over to Spencer to chat. "Hey, Varsity Blues," He began as he approached him.
"Oh, hey," Spencer said. "You come over to grill me for how I've been treating Roderick lately?"
"I actually wanted to apologize," he replied. "Maybe I didn't get the best first impression of you, but seeing how you stood up for Roderick and gave him and Jane both their moments to shine on stage, maybe I was wrong. It was really cool of you, Spencer." He looked into his eyes. "I knew I had a feeling that underneath all that macho snark, that you're a pretty sweet guy on the inside."
Spencer chuckled. "Maybe next time you shouldn't judge a book by its cover."
"Well, the cover of your book is... pretty smoking hot," Alistair flirted. "I mean, I'm not blind."
Spencer was a little caught off guard, but was happy to hear Alistair reciprocate some feelings. "Then why give me the cold shoulder?"
"I sort of thought you were..."
"A dick?"
Alistair laughed. "You said it, not me," he said, confirming Spencer's suspicions. "But like I said, you're a really great guy. I'd love a chance to get to know you a little bit more outside of the glee club."
"I'd love that," Spencer replied.
"Places, everyone!" Myron shrieked, interrupting Spencer and Alistair's moment. Alistair quickly gave Spencer a peck on the cheek, giving Spencer a rare opportunity to blush as he rushed out onto stage with his friends and teachers.

The next Monday before glee club, Roderick approached Spencer over at his locker. "Hey man, do you know of any protein supplements that you like?"
Spencer closed his locker. "You know what, buddy? Skip the supplements and eat some organic chicken instead. You'll thank me later."
"I actually already owe you a debt of gratitude," Roderick replied. "I've started working out and eating better. I still sneak a few Cheetos before bed sometimes, but, I actually feel really great. You had my back and you challenged me to make some important changes, plus you gave me a great chance to perform a song by one of my favorite artists, so thank you."
"That's awesome, buddy. I'm glad I could help," Spencer smiled, the two walking together as they made their way to the choir room.
Changing the subject, Roderick put his arm on Spencer's shoulder. "So, I hear you're seeing a special someone?"
Spencer chuckled. "Yeah, Alistair and I are going on a date tonight. Breadstix."
"So good," Roderick said, closing his eyes and imagining some breadsticks from Breadstix.
"I know," Spencer nodded in agreement. "He's the first guy I've ever met who actually makes me nervous. I hope I don't screw it up."
"I hope you don't either," Roderick joked. "Especially since I've put in such a good word for you."
In the auditorium bleachers, Finn and Rachel sat, prepared to run through a number that they intended to use at Sectionals. While the glee kids all got situated up on the stage, the couple admired them, reminiscing in their heads about their own youth. "We're still one person short..." Rachel said, breaking the silence. "Sectionals is this week. What are we going to do?"
"Listen to me," Finn said, turning to face her and taking her hand. "We've got this. You and me, until the very end."
Rachel smiled gently. "My dads are coming to Sectionals," she whispered. "They want to see everything you and I have put together."
"Are they going to hold off on the arguing?" Finn joked. "OW!" He said as Rachel punched him in the arm before they laughed together. "This is what we've been building towards," he continued as he motioned to the kids on the stage. "This is just the first step. Nationals will be around the corner before we know it."
"Do you think we have what it takes to go up against Blaine" She asked with slight concern.
He looked at her and gave her the classic Finn smirk. "Bring it on."
She smiled, caressing his cheek and leaning in to give him a soft kiss on the lips. "I love you, Finn."
"I love you too, Rach."
"I love you more."
"If you say so..."
"Uh, lovebirds?" Unique called from on the stage. "Can we get a roll on here? Because Unique is ready for soundcheck."
"It's just rehearsal..." Bree mumbled.
Finn and Rachel laughed, turning their attention to the stage. "Okay guys," Finn spoke into the god mic. "Let's see if this is good enough for Sectionals."
[Jane]
She sees them walking in a straight line
That's not really her style
[Mason]
And they all got the same heartbeat
But hers is falling behind
[Roderick and Madison]
Nothing in this world could ever bring them down
Yeah, they're invincible
And she's just in the background
[Madison]
And she says
[Madison and Roderick with New Directions]
I wish that I could be like the cool kids
'Cause all the cool kids, they seem to fit in
[Madison, Roderick and Jake with New Directions]
I wish that I could be like the cool kids
Like the cool kids
[Marley]
He sees them talking with a big smile
But they haven't got a clue
[Unique]
Yeah, they're living the good life
Can't see what he is going through
[Spencer and Alistair]
They're driving fast cars
But they don't know where they're going
In the fast lane, living life without knowing
And he says
[Bree and Ryder with New Directions]
I wish that I could be like the cool kids
'Cause all the cool kids, they seem to fit in
I wish that I could be like the cool kids
Like the cool kids
[Marley]
I wish that I could be like the cool kids
