Knuckles rests next to the Master Emerald. His standard position. Not particularly worried about anything or anyone. Everything is surprisingly quiet. Nobody has come to Angel Island for a while. Sonic's in Jail and everyone else is trying to make sure he gets out or stays in. Knuckles doesn't care that much but he would be lying if he didn't miss Sonic's visits or how the moon still reminds him of Sonic. He will stay here until something changes, until then he rests. Alone on his island all to himself. Until whenever Rouge decides to bother him again or whoever else comes to the island for him or other reasons. He waits and nobody comes, kinda weird after you've been around people for so long, especially being so alone.
Amy wakes up. Knuckles. She knows him enough to get into there and make sure that he is firmly against Sonic getting out. She can manage that right? Maybe he'll not care like Shadow. Does Shadow not care? Yes, he does that was dealt with yesterday, remember one person at a time. This will be fine. She has credibility on her side, who would know Sonic better than her? Besides Tails and maybe also a few other people but other than that, she's close. It'll be fine. She'll be fine. Talk to Knuckles and explain everything. He has to believe her, right? This will be fine. It will all be okay and nothing bad will happen. Amy swears that to herself. Reaffirming it to herself. Like a mantra, it is her mantra now.
She gets to Knuckles as early as she can. Knuckles seems to be surprised to see her. Amy walks up slowly up the stairs to the Master Emerald and Knuckles. Slow as she can without looking awkward or unstable. Amy tells herself to get it over with to end it and move on. It won't stop until she makes it. The worst he can do is support Sonic. Which might not even do anything. After all of this one person can't change it. At least not without planning for this. Amy walks up the steps and reaches the top. She looks at Knuckles, who is sitting there presumably waiting for her to talk and tell him whatever. She thinks for a second and breathes in, Knuckles is still.
"Hello Knuckles" she tries to say as normally as possible
"Hey" Knuckles says back, timidly, probably nervous because Amy's nervous
"So…. Sonic?"
"What about him?"
"…You do know he got arrested, right?"
"Of course I do!"
"So you just don't care?"
"Why would I?"
"Oh okay, good."
"Wait, seriously, no teasing?"
"Knuckles, I have no time or reason to tease, all I need to know is that everyone is either against or neutral to Sonic's imprisonment"
"…Why?"
"You wouldn't get it"
"Alright, United against I guess" Knuckles suggest to explain it away
"Sure, let's go with that, bye Knuckles" Amy waves her hand and leaves. Knuckles stands there now again, bored out of his mind and sitting next to the Master Emerald. An idea pops into his head, one that he considers harmless.
Maybe he should visit Sonic.
Surprisingly enough Knuckles actually does that thought. Seeing Sonic is prison. Sonic looks surprised to see him, but picks up the phone anyways.
"Hey Knucks, nice of you to visit"
"Hey, how's it going?"
"Oh you know, prison, not much to brag about I think, how about you? Why the sudden visit?" Sonic asks casually
"Well, Amy visited me, said something about making sure I was either neutral or against you, so I decided to visit you, see how your doing and all that" Knuckles explains
"What?"
"Amy came and-"
"Nononono, I got that, but why would Amy do that?" Sonic questions
"United we stand, I guess?"
"Doesn't it make sense to support me? Don't you know, act like I'm already guilty?"
"I guess?"
"Why would Amy do that?"
"I dunno"
"Well thanks, Knuckles"
"You're Welcome, you're okay?"
"Nope, but thanks"
Sonic hands up and Knuckles leaves back to Angel Island. Back enough to see Amy there, looking peeved.
"Oh, thanks for guarding the-" Knuckles says jovially
"Knuckles, you visited him?" Amy says fuming directly at him
"Yes…" Knuckles trails off
"Knuckles, what part of staying neutral or going against don't you understand?" Amy almost snaps at him
"I wanted t-"
"You wanted to know what? Ruin everything? You didn't tell him what I was doing did you?"
"Yeah I did, why?"
"F- Okay. Look, whatever. I'm going."
"What?"
"To see Sonic." Amy leaves quickly, Knuckles looks after her, confused, if she can't defuse this, she'll tell him exactly what she feels, doesn't matter now
"What a pleasure that you came to visit"
"Cut the Crap, you know why I have to do this, I know you know"
"No, actually I don't"
"I know you know, I know you aren't this stupid." Amy says almost gritted though her teeth at this point.
"Please enlighten me" Sonic says sarcastically as possible
"You cause so much damage" Amy drips out of her mouth
"What?" Sonic is taken aback
"You heard me. I'm convincing Tails tomorrow, neutrality won't be an option" Amy says angrily
"You better not hurt Tails" Sonic says getting mad with every word
"I'm not a monster, unlike you." Amy hangs up and exits the building. Sonic goes back to his cell. Where he sits, waiting for the end. He hopes Tails will be okay. But he's not a monster like Amy says he is, right?
Amy is not ready for tomorrow but she doesn't care. She will get through this. Tails has to come to her side. Tails will understand. Unlike the rest. Neutrality is no longer an option is either offense or nothing at all. Amy goes to sleep, without a thought, as fast as she can. Let's get this over with. Waking up the next morning as fast as she went to sleep. Amy is ready as she'll ever be. Time to convince Tails.
