On the road to the bowling alley, Yaz decided to give Doctor and Susan an opportunity to catch up more. It looked like David had the same idea. They were walking behind them, keeping some distance, so the women could chat freely without them hearing what are they talking about.

'So... You and Doc, huh?' David asked to break an uncomfortable silence between them. 'How long it's been going on?'

Yaz smiled at him. 'Not long. I'm still trying to figure her out, you know? It's like I know her, and in the next second I know nothing.'

David chuckled. 'I know exactly what you mean. My wife isn't any better. After 20 years, she still surprises me.' he smiled to himself.

'She really left her here with you, didn't she?' Yaz asked.

David nodded. 'Yeah... She couldn't find her place in the new reality for years. She missed him, but at the same time, she didn't want to make things hard for him either. She knew if she called, he'd left everything and came to see her. In a way, she tried to spare him the pain.'

Yaz got lost in her thoughts for a moment.

'Why did she call now, then?' she asked and David shrugged.

'No idea. She just told me, she did it, and I didn't ask why. It's between them. You and me? We just mere humans, who they chose to put up with.' he said.

Yaz chuckled. 'Does she offend other races too, when she's angry or annoyed?'

David smiled at her. 'She does. I guess it runs in the family.'

Yaz watched her woman chatting merrily with her granddaughter in front of them.

'They look happy.' she said.

'They do. Even after 20 years, the bond is still strong.' David also watched his wife.

'Oh, it's been far more than 20 years for Doc.' Yaz said sadly, and David glanced at her.

'Really? How long exactly?' he asked.

Yaz sighed. 'I don't know the exact number, but from what she told me... Thousands...'

David's face saddened. He surely didn't expect that.

'So, what you've been doing all these years?' Doctor asked. They were walking together, and Susan held her grandmother by her arm.

'Oh, lots of things. I basically was there, where someone needed help. Just like you taught me.' Susan smiled widely.

'What about you, grandmother?'

Doctor sighed. 'Well... Pretty much the same. I've fixed my navigation. That didn't help though. TARDIS still sometimes has a mind of her own, and just throws me straight into action... But she seems strangely quiet lately.'

Susan giggled. 'Maybe she feels you're not lonely anymore.'

Blonde never thought of that this way. Maybe indeed TARDIS tried to make her feel less lonely. Pushed her to meet new people. She smiled.

'Yeah... Did I mention, TARDIS was a woman once?' she tried to change the subject quickly. Talking about loneliness made her uncomfortable.

Susan giggled. 'The Elder Gods have finally listened to your prayers, huh?'

Doctor smiled. 'No. There was an asteroid called House which killed many Time Lords before. It lured me to death, but didn't quite expected my TARDIS to fight back.'

Susan smiled looking ahead. She had one question in mind, but she wasn't sure if she could ask it.

'Grandmother... Can I ask something?'

Doctor sighed. She were expecting that question.

'Fifteen.' she answered. 'That's my fifteenth body.'

Susan's eyes widened. 'Bloody hell...' she cursed.

'Language, young lady.' Doctor scolded her.

'Come on, I'm not a child anymore. I can say whatever I want.' her granddaughter answered.

'Of course you can, but not in front of me. I'm still your grandfather... grandmother I mean. Genders are hard, don't you think?' Doctor asked, trying to change the subject again.

'Well it would be much more helpful if humans could see the world like we do. But you died fourteen times already? What have you been doing? How old are you anyway?' Susan answered Doctor's question, but didn't take the bait.

Blonde tried to look away. 'I'd rather not say.'

'Grandmother, please. Tell me.'

Doctor sighed and forced a smile. 'I've been killed, tortured, fought the war, sacrificed myself couple of times, got married to the woman who tried to kill me... My age? I lost count. What's the difference anyways? Few hundreds or few thousands...'

'Wait, thousands?' Susan asked, clearly surprised. 'Well that shouldn't surprise me with your body count... Married? Is she still in the picture?'

Doctor smiled to herself. 'It's kinda complicated. But she met Yaz, and they immediately liked each other.'

Blonde started thinking about the time she met her wife. She saw Yaz and River flirting and...

'Oh, I can see that... She's pretty, though. River, right? Oh, you were cute too... She tried to kill you?' Susan said with an awkward smile. 'Sorry, it's getting stronger.'

'It's fine, my dear. I don't mind. Yes. She was taken from her parents and was trained to assassinate me. And then time broke and we got married. She likes Yaz. Apparently these two will see each other after...' she couldn't finish the sentence, but she didn't have to.

'That's really kind of you, grandmother. But you know what? You don't have to leave. You don't have to run all the time. Yaz seems like a very nice gal, and she loves you.' Susan smiled. 'It's okay to slow down and settle down with your loved one. You taught me that.'

They both went silent for a minute, letting this conversation to sink in.

'There wasn't a day, that I wouldn't think of you.' Doctor said. 'What I did... Back then. Leaving you here. It wasn't fair. But I knew you'd pick me, over him.'

'And I would.' Susan giggled. 'But... All things considered I'm glad you did leave me here. You let me grow up.'

Doctor sent her loving look and sighed. 'And you did. Look at you! I could be your granddaughter.'

Susan chuckled. 'You're not that young, ma'am. And I am not that old... I like this Doctor better.'

Blonde looked away. She didn't want her to know about what she's been through. Although Susan could see right through her, she decided not to push any further. She just squeezed her grandmother's arm to get her attention, and smiled.

'So, are we there yet?' Doctor asked.

'In fact, yes. The alley is right there.' Susan pointed at next building. 'Me and Yaz are gonna kick your ass. Oh, I rhymed.' she giggled.

They stopped just before the entrance, so Yaz and David could catch up.

'I wonder what they were talking about.' Doctor said watching her girlfriend meet her gaze and smile widely middle conversation with David.

Susan chuckled and patted her grandmother's shoulder. 'Isn't that obvious? You're only person that young girl has on mind. Trust me.'

Doctor smiled at her.

The bowling alley looked strangely similar to the ones Yaz was used to.

'Okay, Doc, Yaz, wait here. Me and my wife will take care of this.' David said taking Susan by her hand. They walked to the counter.

'So, how did it go?' Yaz asked her girlfriend.

'Surprisingly good. She's much better person than I am. You were right, Yaz...' Doctor answered and changed the subject quickly. 'Do I have to be David's teammate?'

Yaz grabbed her hand. 'Yes, Doc. From what I've heard he's good at this.' she smiled. She knew the competitive side of the blonde. 'Doesn't mean you will outplay me and Susan.'

Doctor smiled playfully. 'Oh really? Maybe we should have a bet on our own then?'

Yaz giggled. 'Okay. What's the stake?' she took a step closer.

'Well... If me and...' she cleared her throat. 'David win, you'll have to do whatever I say for a day. No questions asked. Of course when this is all over.'

Yaz smiled too. 'Done. And if me and Susan win, you'll have to talk to David. Heart to heart. About your granddaughter.'

Doctor seemed to be surprised for a moment, but that quickly turned into a grin. 'Oh, Yasmin Khan, you have no idea what you just did. Now I won't lose.'

Yaz giggled. Seeing her in that state was strangely arousing. 'Oh no. You will. I'll make sure of that.'

Now Doctor felt that too. 'I guess we'll see then.' she answered. Their faces were inches apart. 'Kiss for good luck?'

Yaz chuckled. 'I'm not kissing my enemies.' she took a step back and smiled wickedly. She walked pass Doctor, pinching her butt.

Blonde watched her go for couple of seconds, before she saw Susan waving to her.

'Oh, I'm getting too old for this.' she said to herself and joined the rest.

'Here.' David started distributing bowling shoes. 'These will adjust to your feet. We have two lines. One for me and Doctor. One for Yaz and my lovely wife. Do I have to explain the rules?' he asked.

Doctor and Yaz looked at each other and shook their heads.

'Splendid. Highest combined score wins.' he smiled and hugged his wife. 'Good luck, Sue.' he gave her a kiss.

'Oh, you will need it more than I do, love.' she smiled.

Once all of them have changed their shoes, they went to their lines. Doctor and Yaz went first. They met at the ball distribution machine.

'Hope you take the lose well, Yaz. Because I'm not gonna go easy on you.' Doctor said with a confident grin.

Yaz chuckled. 'Promise, Doc?' she picked the ball and almost effortlessly threw it trough the line. Strike.

'I've played a bit at school.' she said to her partner on her way back. 'And I was good.'

Doctor smiled. She thought Yaz couldn't be more attractive, but she was wrong. She stood there with the ball she chose, staring at her for a moment.

'Doc.' she heard all of the sudden and felt a hand on her shoulder. It was David. 'We're both lucky, huh?' he was also watching his spouse.

Doctor nodded. 'That doesn't mean we will let them win, right?' she used her turn. 8/10 split. 'Damn it.' she cursed.

'Tough luck, Doc.' Yaz said with a smile.

Susan giggled. 'You two remind me of us at the beginning so much.'

Yaz turned to her. 'Are we really?'

'Awfully. I can see where my overconfidence is originated.' Susan said and looked at the "boys" lane. 'Oh, she's good.'

Yaz looked too. Doctor managed to get a spare.

'Ha! Take that!' they heard.

'Way to go Doctor!' David patted her shoulder.

The game was tough for both of the teams. They went head to head. Blonde seemed to forget about her grudge against David, because they were celebrating every strike or spare with a bear hug, high fives or hip bumps. Susan and Yaz watched them with a smile.

'Boys...' Susan said quietly and giggled.

Yaz chuckled too. 'Should we let them win this one?'

'Hell no.' Susan answered. She got up and scored another strike. Yaz watched Doctor and David following her with their gaze.

'She's really something, isn't she?' David said watching her wife going back to Yaz to celebrate.

'Oh, she is. They both are.' Doctor answered, seeing her girlfriend and granddaughter hug.

'There's not a thing in this universe, I wouldn't do for Sue.' David said. 'She told me, she missed bowling, and I just annoyed so many people to build this for her. For our first anniversary.' he smiled.

Doctor seemed surprised. She felt bad for misjudging him. 'You're a good fella, Dave.' she said. 'I couldn't ask for a better man for her.'

'Thanks, Doc. I really appreciate it. Frankly, I thought you didn't like me for taking your granddaughter away from you.' David said glancing at Doctor.

She sighed. 'You're right. I have to admit I didn't exactly like the thought she's with you. But now... I'm glad you're taking care of her.'

He chuckled. 'More like she's been taking care of me.'

Doctor smiled. 'Yeah. I know what you mean... But! Now, we have to crush them, my boy. Go and make me proud.'

David laughed. 'Oh, I missed you, old friend.' he went for his throw and also scored a strike.

The game was coming to an end, and it was still a tie. Each of the players had last two shots.

'Come on, Yaz! Two strikes!' Susan cheered while Yaz was getting ready for her turn. She rolled the ball in her hands. She glanced at Doctor, and surprisingly found out, she and David were chatting merrily and joking. She smiled to herself. She took a shot. 7/10.

'Bloody hell.' she cursed and took another ball.

'What's the matter, Yaz?' she heard her girlfriend next to her. 'Giving up, already?'

Brunette found Doctor's teasing beneficial. Now she entered full focus mode. She threw her ball. Spare. And then another. Strike.

'Not yet, Doc.' She walked pass her and came back to Susan.

Doctor scored a strike. She went back to get another ball. Next shot didn't go as she planned. The ball went to the gutter. Last shot scored only 5/10.

'Fuck...' she said quietly.

Now Susan and David had their turns. Susan blowed a kiss to her husband and scored a strike. He smiled and also scored a strike.

Doctor did the math and went to talk to David.

'If you score another strike, and she'll do only 5 or 6, we'll win.' she told him and rubbed his shoulders.

'I know. I'm gonna do my best.' he said and went for his shot. Strike. Now it was all about Susan.

'Come on, love!' Yaz cheered. 'You got this!'

Susan turned her head back and smiled to Yaz. She went for her shot and...

'Yes! We won!' Yaz yelled and went to celebrate with her teammate.

Doctor sighed, a bit down. She didn't like losing. David patted her shoulder.

'We still have mini golf.' he said, and lower his voice. 'We'll have our win there.'

Doctor smiled shortly. 'Are you any good?'

David chuckled. 'I'm the best. Cheer up, mate. We can still have a tie.' he went to give his wife a kiss, and Yaz went to the Doctor.

'Great game, Doc.' she hugged her tightly. 'You're a worthy opponent.'

Blonde smiled sadly. 'Yeah... But I was pretty excited about the opportunity to boss you around a bit.' she joked and Yaz laughed.

'Oh, hunny. You know I'd do anything for you, even without the bet.' she said, still holding her tightly. 'Besides... You can still have your win. I'm rising the stake. Besides doing whatever you want, no questions asked...' she said and then whispered to her ear. 'You'll choose what will I wear during the whole thing.'

Doctor felt sudden blood rush downstairs. 'Deal.' she said shortly. 'No takesies backsies.'

Yaz giggled. 'Of course. But, you still have to talk to David.' she pulled a bit back to look her into her face.

Doctor smiled 'I think I already did. Wasn't so bad. He's a good guy.'

Yaz smiled too and gave her a kiss. 'Nothing to lose then. Plenty to gain.' she said and joined Susan and David.
