Willow wondered if it was a good choice to leave Branch with Tiny to navigate. He hadn't ever been to Vacay Island, so how would he know if they were going the right way? "Hey guys?" Branch called. "I think we found it." Then again, he did have a postcard to follow.
Willow stood up to show Tiny how to get to the Ferry when she heard John Dory. "All right, y'all, let's mobilize." He moved Tiny Diamond out of the chair and sat down.
Willow's eyes widened as she ran up to the driver's seat. "What are you doing?" She asked as Rhonda ran closer to the edge of a cliff. "Why are we going this way?"
"This is the fastest way to the island," John Dory grinned.
"This is the way to a cliff!" Willow hissed. "I don't know about you, but I know for a fact Branch and Poppy can't breathe underwater! Not to mention Tiny over here!"
"You say that like you can breathe...he gave you something, didn't he?" Branch deadpanned as he looked at his sister.
Willow shook her head. "Not important."
"Worry not, friends," John Dory chuckled. "Rhonda here's completely waterproof."
Rhonda may have been waterproof, but she was not watertight by any means; something Willow was extremely irritated by when Rhonda began to flood after John Dory launched them into the ocean. When Rhonda's door opened, the group washed out with the orbeez water. "Good old Rhonda," Branch coughed out while Poppy spit some of the orbeez out of her mouth. "Completely waterproof, huh?"
Willow stood as the orbeez washed back into the water. "Are you insane?" She stormed up to John Dory. "You could have gotten us killed!"
"Relax, baby sis," John Dory dismissed. "We're fine, aren't we? That water wasn't going to hurt us, it's just orbeez water." He frowned. "But you knew that. You said you've been here before."
"But you didn't," Willow insisted. "Neither did Branch or Poppy! You are so lucky this was orbeez water. Tiny Diamond isn't even a year old yet. How do you think his dad would have felt if he didn't make it back from this trip?" She poked the oldest in the chest, frustrated. "You have to think these things through." She shook her head. "Come on, we should go find Spruce and get this over with."
Poppy watched the younger siblings go into the woods and sighed. "Don't mind her," she assured the oldest with a grin. "She gets a little stressed when Trolls are in trouble."
John Dory sighed. "Yeah, I get that. Kinda wish I wasn't part of what was stressing her out though." He moved in front of Willow and Branch to clear the way.
It was times like these that Willow was grateful for Poppy's endless optimism and questions. Her questions to John Dory, leader of the old BroZone band made it easier for Willow to focus on the task. "So, who wrote that song 'Girl, I Love Your Love, Girl'?" Poppy asked with a grin.
"I did," John Dory smiled while slicing through a pool noodle plant with his machete.
"Cool," Poppy smiled. "Who wrote, 'Girl, You Break My Heart, Girl'?"
"I did."
"So cool," Poppy gushed. "Who wrote 'Girl, I Love Your Love, Girl, You Break My Heart, Girl, I Still Love You, But I Seriously Think We Should Have a Talk About Our Relationship Girl'?"
"Oh, that was Branch," Willow rolled her eyes at the joke. As if Branch would write such a stupid title for a song.
"Shut up!" Poppy squealed. "That was my favorite BroZone song, like ever."
"JK," John Dory laughed. "Also me. Branch has never written a song."
"I was a baby," Branch retorted as he and Willow crossed a gap in the pool noodles. "What did you want me to write about, diaper rash?"
"Okay, take it easy, Bitty B," John Dory put an inflatable leaf on the pool noddle and started to slide down.
"What's wrong?" Poppy asked as Branch grabbed another leaf.
"Nothing," Branch deadpanned as he sat on the leaf. "Super happy. This is our most fun mission yet. Yay!" He pushed the leaf down the slide.
Poppy sighed as she and Willow followed Branch. "A brother is supposed to be a friend that can never leave you," She said, looking at Willow and Branch. "It's the strongest bond in the world."
"And yet, they left," Willow frowned. "So much for strong bonds, right?" She crossed her arms as she slid down. "You're lucky, Poppy. As much as you want a sibling, you never have to deal with them leaving you and thinking you weren't good enough."
Poppy's eyes lowered. "I guess I never thought about it like that," she admitted. "You both know you're more than good enough, right?" She asked, looking at the two with concern.
"I know that in here," Branch pointed to his head. "It's harder to believe that here," He gestured to his heart. Willow grimaced but didn't answer her friend, choosing to walk ahead to catch up to John Dory.
"Well don't you worry," Poppy smiled and gave her boyfriend a hug. "I'll be here to remind you every time you forget that."
"Alright y'all," John Dory smiled. "We're getting close to something." He started walking to the edge. "I can feel it." Willow rolled her eyes. Yeah, they were close to the rock climbing area. She smiled when he ran into one of the Vacayers.
"Whoa," The man said with a smile as the Trolls screamed in surprise. "What do we got here?" He smiled down at the kids beneath him. "Hey, guys, looks like I found some fellow rock climbers. Welcome to Vacay Island. Where every day is a Vacay."
"Hey, Pete," Willow smiled at the Vacayer. "You got some of Bruce's kids with you?" She looked down and waved at the kids before turning to Pete "Can you give us a ride down? We need to talk to Bruce."
"No problem, Willow," Pete said with a relaxed smile. "You decided to come a new way? You usually make it here with the ferry."
"There's a ferry?!" Branch yelled as Pete held out his hand for the group to climb on. "Why didn't we take the ferry?"
"Because someone insisted on jumping off a cliff," Willow retorted. She smiled when they were set on the beach. "Thanks, Pete!"
Pete laughed. "You're welcome! Better go say high to the royal duo before you find Bruce though. You're late."
Willow frowned in confusion before realization hit her. "Oh man, I am so late!" She accepted a drink from one of the seagull balls.
"Late for what?" John Dory asked, curious.
"There you are, Sweet Beat!" Trollex called from behind. Willow turned to see him and Barb running up to them. "We were starting to think you forgot."
"I think she did," Barb raised an eyebrow at the extra Trolls. "You don't usually bring the Popsqueak and your brother to date nights. What gives? And who's this?" She pointed at a confused John Dory.
"I am so sorry," Willow hugged the two. "I was so caught up with Bridget's wedding and then John Dory here showed up." She pulled away from the two and sighed. "It's been a confusing day and we need to talk to Bruce."
"John Dory?" Trollex looked at the Troll, a guarded look on his face. "The brother?" Barb and Trollex stepped closer to Willow when she nodded.
"You knew they had brothers?" Poppy asked, surprised. "They didn't tell me anything until a few hours ago."
"It may have come up during date night," Willow admitted. Seeing the confused look on Poppy's face and the irritated look on Branch's, she elaborated. "Sometimes, when we're relaxing and we can't think of anything to talk about, we play a game we like to call, 'Tell Me One Thing.' It's where we each say one thing about ourselves we don't think the others know." She shrugged. "It's a great conversation starter. I may have been a little drunk when that one came out," she looked at her brother apologetically. Branch nodded in understanding, but didn't like that others knew about their brothers.
"Woah, woah, woah," John Dory waved his arms in the air. "You've been drinking? You're too young to be drinking. And what's this about date night? Who are these two to you?"
"I'm twenty-six," Willow retorted. "I can drink if I want. And this is King Trollex and Queen Barb. My boyfriend and girlfriend."
"They have date night every other week," Branch grinned. "They're the ones who gave her those necklaces."
"I don't know if I like the idea of you being alone with these two," John Dory said, sounding a little protective. "Who knows what kind of trouble you could get into."
"Don't start playing big brother now," Willow scoffed. She turned to Branch. "We're going to Bruce's to see if we can find him." She smiled down at Tiny Diamond. "You want to come? I did promise you ice cream earlier, didn't I?"
Tiny Diamond grinned and hopped into Willow's hair. "Aw heck yeah, Aunt Willow! Ice cream!"
Willow smiled and started to walk towards Bruce's cantina. "Oh no," John Dory grabbed her arm. "You're not going anywhere with these two."
Barb growled and pulled her girlfriend away from her brother. "You can't make her do anything! If she wants to go with us, she can."
"I'm her big brother," John Dory said. "I know what's best for her."
"You don't know anything about her," Trollex said, helping Barb. "You have no right to tell her what to do."
Branch frowned and pushed Willow away from their older brother and her boyfriend and girlfriend. He hugged her and glared at the trio. "Willow is not some toy you can just fight over. You're stressing her out."
The trio looked at the girl in Branch's arms. She was pretty freaked out. "Sorry, Sweet Beat," Trollex said feeling guilty. "We shouldn't have been fighting over you."
"Yeah," Barb nodded, grimacing. "We just saw that guy grab you and I freaked out. Sorry, Popstar."
"Can we just go get ice cream now?" Willow sighed, holding on to Branch.
"Go for it," Poppy smiled. "We'll start looking for Spruce. If you see Bruce, don't forget to ask him for us, okay?" Branch nodded encouragingly and let her go to the two royals.
Willow grinned and thanked her brother and the Pop Queen before running off with her boyfriend and girlfriend. "Are you okay?" Trollex asked as they walked into the cantina.
"I don't know," Willow muttered. "This is a lot to deal with. I just want to get this over with." She smiled at Brandy when they made it to the bar. "Can I get a scoop of your mango ice cream and some chocolate ice cream?" She asked the vacayer. She pulled Tiny Diamond out of her hair and set him down. "I promised the little guy some earlier."
Brandy smiled. "Of course. You want your nachos too?" When Willow nodded, she got right to work. "I know you mentioned something about a wedding happening today. How was that?"
"It was fine," Willow muttered. "Where's Bruce by the way?" She asked, looking up. "I needed to talk to him about something."
"He was out surfing last I saw," Brandy said, thoughtfully. "He should be back soon." She smiled and looked out the door. "He's coming in now if you want to talk to him."
Willow nodded. "Thanks, Brandy." She looked at Trollex and Barb. "Can you keep an eye on Tiny while I talk to Bruce?"
"Sure thing, Popstar," Barb grinned. "Maybe when you get done with that, you can tell us what's going on?"
"Yeah," Willow sighed. "I can do that." She hopped down from the bar to get to Bruce.
When she caught up to Bruce, she vaguely noticed he was surrounded by Branch, Poppy, and John Dory. "I'm sorry, did you say 'Bruce'?"
"Bruce!" Willow called, running over to the Troll. "I was looking for you." She smiled at the older Troll. "How have you been?"
"Hey, kid," Bruce grinned at her. "I'd love to chat, but I'm a little busy right now." He motioned to the two Trolls beside him.
"And I am so glad they found you," Willow continued, not noticing the looks on the other's faces. "We had a question we needed to ask..." She raised a brow confused. "Did I interrupt something?"
"Willow?" Poppy stepped forward and put her hand on her friend's shoulder. "Do you know who this is?"
"Uh, yeah?" Willow looked at her friend. "This is my friend, Bruce. He's the Troll who's going to help us find Spruce."
"Uh, what's going on?" Bruce asked, looking at the others, confused. "Willow, do you know them?"
"Sure," Willow shrugged. "Branch is my brother." She looked at Bruce, confused. "How do you know them?"
Bruce looked at Willow in surprise. "You mean to tell me, I've been hosting my little sister this entire time and I didn't even know?"
"Little sister? What are you..." She looked at Branch, irritated. "You said his name was Spruce!" She crossed her arms. "We could have been in contact with one of your brothers for months!"
"That's what it used to be!" He retorted. "How was I supposed to know he changed his name?!"
Willow started rubbing her temples. "I can't believe I've been talking to one of our older brothers this entire time." She looked up in horror. "I've been having date nights here. I have niblings. Niblings that have been running around during date night." She laughed and gave her newly introduced siblings a manic grin with her hands clasped together. "If you'll excuse me, I have to go contemplate my entire existence now." She turned around and walked to the bar, not giving the others a chance to respond.
"Well that was something," John Dory raised an eyebrow. He looked at his immediate younger brother. "So, did you say you're name is Bruce?"
"I have a baby sister," Bruce said, his voice wavering. "I have been spending time with my baby sister and I didn't even realize it."
"Focus up," John Dory snapped his fingers in front of Bruce's face. "You can have this crisis after we talk."
"Right," Bruce nodded. He glared at his older brother. "If you want to keep those fingers, you won't do that again." He settled into an easy grin. "But yeah, I wanted to put the whole, 'boy band' thing behind me now that I'm a dad."
"Wait a minute, you're a father?" John Dory asked.
"Yeah?" Bruce grinned as they hopped onto the bar. "I can't wait for you to meet everyone." He waved at his wife, Brandy. "Hi, honey. These are my brothers, unexpectedly."
"Oh. Oh!" Brandy smiled. "Oh, hello there." She placed the drinks she was holding to the side. "It's so nice to finally meet you."
Bruce smiled. "This is my wife and business partner, Brandy. She is my soulmate—my very tall soulmate—but we make it work."
"How?" John Dory couldn't help but ask, confused.
"We don't even really know how it works," Brandy smiled before grabbing a cookie. "I'm kidding. I'm-I'm not. I'm-I don't know." She looked up in shock. "Oh, Willow!" She grabbed the small drink she'd prepared for the Pop Troll. "I almost forgot." She smiled sheepishly at her husband. "She came back looking really upset, so I thought I'd make her her favorite drink. Did she get a chance to talk to you? She made it seem like it was important."
Bruce grimaced. "Yeah, she got to talk to me. I don't think she's very happy with me right now."
"That's what happens when you find out you've been spending time with a brother you thought abandoned you your entire life and didn't even know it," Branch crossed his arms. "I don't blame her for being upset."
Meanwhile, Willow was on the other side of the bar watching her brothers interact. "I can't believe Bruce has been Spruce this whole time," Trollex muttered, surprised.
"I can't believe we didn't notice sooner," Barb commented taking a bite of the nachos. They watched him interact with his kids. "He looks a lot like Branch in the face."
"Not helping, Barbed Wire," Trollex said through clenched teeth. "She feels bad enough as it is."
Barb chuckled sheepishly. "Right, sorry."
Willow frowned but didn't say anything as Brandy handed her a Blue Island Cocktail. "Thanks, Brandy."
"Of course," Brandy smiled. "You wanna tell me what's bothering you?"
"I just found out we're family," Willow smiled ruefully. "Turns out your husband is my brother." She took a sip of her drink. "I've been an aunt this entire time and I never knew."
"That can be a bit of a shock," Brandy acknowledged with a smile. "But I'm happy to have you as a sister-in-law. The kids are going to be excited to learn they have an aunt. And one they know so well already." She gave the Pop Troll a gentle smile as she sipped on her drink in contemplation. "You don't have to be happy about this situation. It can be overwhelming dealing with so many changes all at once. But it might be easier if you go over there and talk to them instead of hiding over here and watching. What do you think?"
"We'll be with you," Trollex said with a gentle smile. "Whatever you decide to do." Barb nodded in agreement, her mouth full of nachos.
Willow sighed. "Fine," she nodded. "I guess we can move over to the others." She looked at Brandy. "Can you help us bring this stuff over there?" Brandy nodded with an easy smile and helped them bring the plate of nachos and ice cream to where the others were.
Bruce smiled uneasily and waved at his baby sister, who was ignoring him, when his daughter, LaBreezey, came back around. "Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, guess what! I have pink eye!"
"Oh, my," Branch groaned at the sight while Willow grimaced. "Pink eye."
"Look, Spruce," John Dory said. Willow frowned. His name is Bruce. "Got to cut to the chase. We're not here to catch up. "We're here because we need to hit the perfect family harmony."
"Oh, no," Bruce sighed, frustrated. "You're still going on about that?" He turned to his wife. "Hey. Get these guys their meals to go."
"No, no, no, no, no, no, no," John Dory insisted before Bruce could walk away. "You don't understand. It's for Floyd. He's being held captive."
Willow nodded at the questioning looks Trollex and Barb gave her. They nodded in understanding. No wonder she was stressed.
"What?" Bruce asked. "Well, then, wh-what are we waiting for? We need to call the authorities."
"Hit the perfect family harmony, ye-" John Dory spoke over Bruce. "Spruce, it-it has to be us. Floyd's being held captive in a diamond prison."
"Oh," Bruce realized. "Well, yeah, you need the perfect family harmony for that."
"Or a key," Willow muttered into her drink. Brandy had just given her another one. "You think if we spoke to Mt. Rageous authorities we could get these guys arrested and set Floyd free?"
"Probably not without proof, Sweet Beat," Trollex grinned while watching how much she was drinking. He made a note to get some water in her before they left.
"How are we going to do that?" Bruce asked his brother. "We've never even come close to pulling it off. You do remember our last show, don't you? And we've never done it with Willow." He looked at the nearly empty glass in his sister's hand with concern. "Brandy, my love?" He looked up to his wife. "How many of those has she had?"
"Hmmm," Brandy smiled. "Hard to say. Don't worry though. She requested that all drinks brought to her today be non-alcoholic." She grinned and pointed to the Trolling diving into the trios plate of nachos. "Something about being a good role model to the child she's watching."
Bruce sighed in relief. At least they didn't have to worry about a drunk Willow on top of everything else.
"She'll be fine," John Dory dismissed. "She's our sister, so she'll have no problem catching on. And if we practice," He jumped onto the stage. "I know we'll be able to nail it. We have to."
Bruce chuckled. "At my age? I really don't think that-"
"See guys?" Bruce's son, Cove said looking at his brother Rainy. "I told you Dad wasn't in a band."
"Oh, I was in a band," Bruce insisted looking at his sons. "I was in the band. You ask your mother if I was in a band."
Brandy grinned and looked at her husband. "Oh, he was in a band."
"Prove it!" Poppy started chanting with the kids. "Prove it! Prove it!"
"Oh, all right," Bruce said. "I'll-I'll prove it." He moved to the stage with his older brother. "I'll prove it right now." John Dory cheered as his younger brother joined him.
"Branch, get up there," Poppy grinned. "Go sing with your brothers."
Willow watched Poppy talk her brother into going on stage with their older brothers. "You wanna go sing with Branch and the others?" Barb asked. "It could be fun."
Willow shook her head. "Not really," she admitted. "If it was just Branch, sure. But these others, you both know my emotions tend to blend into songs. I'm not in the right headspace to sing anything their likely to start singing. Can we just watch?"
"Sure, Sweet Beat," Trollex grabbed her a glass of water and sat beside her. "We can watch." The trio settled to watch the brothers practice.
(Bruce)
My girl's like candy, a candy treat
She knocks me right up off my feet
(John Dory)
She's so fine, as can be
Willow watched impressed as the older brothers started dancing. "It's like they haven't been separated for over two decades," she muttered to herself. "They just jumped right in and knew how to dance and work together."
"They're the oldest, right?" Barb asked. She nodded in thought when Willow confirmed it. "Then they've been doing it longer. That kind of stuff can be hard to forget."
(John Dory, Bruce)
It's like a perfect harmony
Candy girl
You are my world
You look so sweet
Come back to me
All I know
When I'm with you (Ooh-ooh)
Willow laughed when they pulled Branch onto the stage. He started dancing half-heartedly with his brothers. "He looks so done with this."
(John Dory, Bruce)
You got the right stuff, baby
Love the way you turn me on (Oh, oh, oh-oh-oh)
You got the right stuff, baby
You're the reason why I sing this song
Willow's face fell as she watched her brother's face start to light up the more into the song he got. "It's like nothing changed," she muttered. "They dance and sing together like they've done this their whole life. This is actually happening, isn't it? We're really getting all of the brothers together?"
(Branch, John Dory, Bruce)
You're all I ever wanted
(Baby, you're all) You're all I ever needed, yeah
So tell me what to do now
When I want (I want you) you back
Doom, doom, doom, da-dab
Doom, doom, doom, da-dab
"That's a good thing, right?" Barb asked, looking at her girlfriend in concern. "That's what'll help save the other brother, Floyd?"
"Of course, it's a good thing," Willow nodded, pulling her knees to her chest. "I'm thrilled they'll be able to sing in harmony and free Floyd. Branch is getting his brother's back. It's all he's ever really wanted."
"So what's wrong?" Trollex asked, rubbing Willow's shoulders. "You're looking a little upset."
Hey, yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah, da-dab
Da-dab
BroZone's back, (Alright)
(Branch, Poppy, John Dory, Bruce)
Whether you're a brother or whеther you're a mother
You're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
"It's stupid," Willow shook her head. "I'm being irrational."
"Hey," Trollex turned her face so she was looking him in the eye. "If it's upsetting you, it's not stupid. Talk to us, Sweet Beat."
"We're here for you," Barb added, placing a hand on Willow's arm.
Feel the city breakin' and everybody's shakin'
People stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ah, ah, ah (BroZone's really back again)
Stayin' alive, stayin' alive
"If Branch is getting his brothers back in his life, he won't need me anymore," Willow admitted, curling in on herself. "He's going to forget all about me and I'll be alone."
Doom, doom, doom, da-dab
Doom, doom, doom, da-dab
I want you back
The two royals looked at each other in concern before enveloping the upset Pop Troll in a hug. This trip was going to break her if they didn't do something about it.
I have a love-hate thing with this chapter. It took a while for me to find the words I needed, and I'm not completely sure this was how I wanted it to go. But sometimes the story takes on a mind of its own. Hope you enjoyed it! Poor Willow is having a hard time, isn't she? Hopefully the rest of the trip is easier...who am I kidding, we know it won't be. Thanks for reading!
