The Next Day
Dagobah Municipal Beach Park
"Whoa!" Izuku moves his head away to dodge an incoming fireball before moving back to avoid multiple slashes from the blade. Using Observation, Izuku grabs the blades by the blunt end and tosses the attacker, who is revealed to be BaoHuckmon.
"Okay, that was close!" Izuku exclaims as he adjusts the weight on his wrist. The weight made him harder to dodge even after using One For All: Full Cowl at 15%, which greatly consumes his stamina.
"Sorry!" BaoHuckmon exclaims before charging at Izuku and using the blades on his back legs and tail to attack Izuku. Izuku grits his teeth as he barely dodges the slash, some manage to cut tiny parts of his hair. He counters the attack with an OFA-enhanced kick, sending BaoHuckmon back as he retaliates mid-flight by shooting a fireball.
Izuku neutralizes the attack with an OFA-enhanced flick, creating an air bullet at the fireball. The impact creates a huge smokescreen, which BaoHuckmon takes advantage of by charging into the smoke. Izuku coughs a bit from the smoke before activating Observation and moves away from a charging attack. Izuku grabs his cloak and pulls it before he follows up by slamming BaoHuckmon into the sand. Without wasting any time, Izuku pins his legs and tail before pulling back his fist.
"Giving up?" BaoHuckmon huffs before nodding. Izuku lets him go and turns off his OFA before he dodges an incoming blade from BaoHuckmon's tail and grabs it, adding pressure to it.
"Ow, ow, ow! My tail!" Izuku huffs before chuckling tiredly and letting go of his partner. BaoHuckmon grumbles before looking at Izuku with a pout, making Izuku laugh at his face.
"Nice spar, buddy." Izuku says as BaoHuckmon de-digivolve back to Hackmon.
"How did you fight so good?" Hackmon asks while grumbling.
"Watching a lot of anime, action movies, and even training in self-defense in my past life helps a lot," Izuku says. "And a lot of dirty tricks that my sister and I used against each other also help."
"That'll explain you pulling my cloak," Hackmon mutters.
"Sorry about that," Izuku says sheepishly before rubbing Hackmon's head.
"Also, Haki is a hack," Hackmon grumbles.
"Haki is a hack," Izuku snorts as he nods in agreement.
"Ah, you're already here." Izuku turns around to see Gran Torino.
"Hey, Gran," Izuku says. "So….did you read my message yesterday?"
"What message?" Izuku blankly stares at Gran before letting out a groan and facepalm.
"I ask you if it's okay for my friends to join the Haki lesson," Izuku says.
"Ah….well, I have to see your friends if they have the potential. The beating I gave them last time didn't help to gauge their potential." Gran replies as Izuku sighs. "Also, if they want to learn, they should try to seek me-!"
"Oh, Gran Torino-san! You're here!" They both look towards the source of the voice to see Eijirou approaching them. Gran then looks at Izuku with a raised eyebrow.
"Did you tell me I was coming here?" Gran asks.
"Well, I did tell him that I always train with you here. And I didn't expect you to come since you didn't answer my message yesterday." Izuku admits.
"So, he's testing his luck?" Gran mutters before looking at Eijirou. "What is it, boy?"
"M-my name is Eijirou Kirishima, and I….I was hoping if it's okay to ask you to train me like you train Izu-bro!" Eijirou says as he bows down.
"…..who's Izu-bro?" Gran asks, pretending to be oblivious. Izuku facepalms before picking up Hackmon and walks away.
"It's a nickname for Izuku-!" Eijirou didn't finish his sentence as he received a flying kick in his face. It was thanks to him subconsciously activating his quirk that he didn't receive any major damage, but he was still sent flying by Torino. "W-what the heck was that for!?"
"Dodge my attack, once," Gran says with a menacing grin. "Then, I'll reconsider."
"Shit!" Eijirou activates his quirk but Gran easily bypasses the defense using his Haki, making Eijirou let out a pained gasp. Then, it was followed by the scariest manslaughter of the year. Eijirou looks like he is being bullied as every time he tries to get up, Gran rushes toward him and knocks him to the ground. Izuku could only wince at the scene.
Izuku wanted to help, but he held himself back as he knew Gran was testing Eijirou. If he intervenes, then the test is meaningless. But, Izuku is also worried as Eijirou wasn't given a proper chance. Hackmon watches this and is somewhat horrified at the scene, as the brutality reminds him a lot of his past training with Gankoomon and Sistermons trio when he was very determined to be a Royal Knight.
Speaking of Gankoomon and the Sistermons, Hackmon wonders how are they doing. He can't help but feel guilty for his outburst towards them after watching his partner die. He lashes out at them for preventing him from meeting his partner. He may be angry, but what he did back then was too far and he made Sistermon Blanc burst into tears, who did nothing but care for him whenever he wished to meet his partner. He hopes that they are all okay, and wishes to apologize to them, but he is too ashamed to face them.
Hackmon is brought back to reality as Gran Torino crashes into Eijirou violently, slamming the boy's back into the sand. Hackmon winces as he hears the pained wheeze coming from the boy's mouth.
"You're weak," Gran Torino says harshly, making Izuku wince. "You're top reliant with your quirk, making you unable to dodge properly. Keep this up, you'll remain weak, unable to do anything unless you use your quirk. Just an attack that could overpower your defense is enough to beat you."
"I-I know…" Eijirou wheezed before desperately clutching on Gran's leg. "It's….why I seek you for training…..I….I am weak, I get it. I-I can't do anything during the USJ….I-Izu-bro almost died back then….I don't want to remain weak…"
Izuku can't help but flinch, guilt taking over his body as he sees tears escaping his friend's eyes. Eijirou grits his teeth as he tries to get Gran's leg off his chest.
"So please….help me….get stronger….s-so I won't have to see my friends on deathbed again!" Eijirou exclaims as he manages to get Gran's leg off his chest and hastily gets up, facing Gran Torino. Izuku can see the determination burning in Eijirou's teary eyes and Gran seems to notice this as well as he backs down while letting out a sigh.
"I start to regret ever getting out of my retirement…." Gran mutters before looking at Eijirou. "Okay, red brat. Wipe those tears off your face and get ready."
"H-huh?" Eijirou blinks, somewhat confused.
"I'll train you, but right now, wipe those tears off your face," Gran exclaims before giving Izuku a dry stare. "Also, get ready, broccoli head! No mercy for you!"
"….why?" Izuku let out a whimper. What did he do this time to receive such a fate? It doesn't help that Hackmon gives him a sympathetic pat on his leg, unintentionally adding insult to injury.
Later
UA High
"Fuck….my whole body is sore…"
Izuku groans as he stretches his back before winces, rubbing the spot that receives most of Gran Torino's brutal drop-kicks. He was lucky that he continued to use Armament or else his spine would be shattered. Getting hit by a speeding old midget isn't fun at all.
As he walks in the hallway, he notices Miles approaching him while waving at him with a huge smile on his face. Izuku can't help but return the smile with one of his own.
"Izuku-san!" Miles exclaims happily. "How are you?"
"I'm okay, Miles…" Izuku says with a chuckle. "What about you, kid?"
"It's nice, Mom and Dad brought me on a family trip to spend the weekend before they go back to I-Island," Miles says while sighing.
"Well, I'm glad that you get to spend more time with your family," Izuku says with a sympathetic smile.
"Yeah," Miles says, returning the smile.
"Oh, right. I never got to thank you for the training weight you gave me. So, thank you." Izuku says while showing the training weight on his wrists.
"No problem!" Miles says with a happy smile. "It is quite hard to make one given your quirk, so I had to ask Power Loader and Hatsume-san for help. I'm glad that it's working properly," Miles scratches his right cheek while looking away sheepishly. "And….I'm glad it didn't explode…"
"….." Izuku looks at the weight on his wrists, his face slightly turning pale before looking at Miles with a horrified expression. Without saying a word, Izuku walks past Miles slowly. Miles finally notices what he has just said and his expression turns horrified.
"I-Izuku-san! I-I was joking!!!" Miles exclaims but Izuku doesn't listen. He knows Mei and her tendencies to make things explode. He is super glad that it never happened, but the possibility of the weights exploding during his training and taking off his limbs makes Izuku's soul almost escape his body.
First, the beating he receives from Gran Torino, then this. Izuku wonders what is happening with his life right now, completely unsure how to react properly.
'Easy there, Ninth…' Shinomori says as he gives Izuku a mental pat on his back.
'You're not helping, Fourth.' Nana says in a dry tone.
'Give the kid a break, guys. He just learned he could lose his limbs,' Yoichi states.
'This coming from a guy who insensitively reminds him about it?' Bruce asks, making Yoichi splutters. Yeah, the banter between the vestiges in his head didn't help at all.
As he walks into his class, he notices that out of all his friends, Koda, Iida, and Eijirou seem to be the only ones who arrive at the class early. He also notices that Koda looks troubled. Unable to ignore it, he decided to confront him, putting down his bag on his seat before approaching the boy.
"You're okay there, Koda?" Izuku asks out of concern. Koda looks startled before looking at Izuku and shakes his head. "You're sure? You seem troubled." Koda widens his eyes slightly before he starts signing, making Izuku sigh.
"You're not causing any trouble to anyone, Koda," Izuku says. "Besides, what kind of friends am I if I just ignore my friends when they're troubled."
Koda looks at him before sighing and signs something. As Izuku reads every hand sign Koda makes, Izuku's eyes slowly widen in surprise but he lets Koda finish. As Koda finishes, Izuku looks at him before taking a deep breath.
"Koda, is that what you truly think? That you're unfit to be a hero?" Koda looks at Izuku before nodding. "Koda, you can't blame yourself for what happened in USJ." Koda looks at Izuku before he aggressively signs at him, frustration evident in his face.
"…look, I get it, you're scared during USJ. But, you shouldn't think you're unfit to be a hero just for that." Izuku says calmly. "Everyone got scared, even heroes. It's natural to feel fear."
"……..died…" Koda mutters quietly, getting Izuku's attention. "You….almost died….because I got scared..."
"…." Izuku let out a sigh. "Blaming yourself for what happened won't help. What you need to do is to think about what course of action should you take."
"…." Koda looks at him with hesitation.
"….I get it, the experience is scary. Trust me, I was also afraid. In fact….as I lose consciousness, I almost give up…" Izuku admits, much to Koda's surprise. Koda stares at Izuku for a second before he signs at Izuku.
"….I remember you guys and I'm more scared of what might happen to you guys…." Izuku says before looking at Koda. "I choose to keep fighting…even if my body is at its limit…My point is that it's okay to be afraid. Everyone is afraid, but don't let it take over you or you will live the rest of your life in fear."
Koda looks at Izuku before he lowers his head, silently deep in thought. Izuku is slightly nervous, unsure if his advice is enough to help Koda. His lack of social skills is not helping him give people proper advice. And he isn't planning to pull a page from his old life, which is 'being super blunt'. He once did it and it backfired as it made him sound like he was insulting someone instead of giving someone advice, and to make it worse, he was completely oblivious about it until his parents explained it to him.
Yeah, not his proudest moment, ever.
"Izuku…" Izuku turns to look at Koda, who gives him a small smile. "T-thanks….for the advice…"
"You're welcome…..honestly, I believe I didn't do much…" Izuku admits sheepishly as Koda shakes his head and signs something. Izuku smiles back at him before nodding and going back to his seat.
'Well, that's one way to help someone…' Nana says.
'It's that bad?' Izuku winces.
'It's not bad, but it could be better…' Kudo states.
'Of course…' Izuku sighs mentally before he looks at Eijirou and winces. It seems like the training from Gran Torino is bad for him. From how Eijirou looked, it was like his soul leaving his body. Izuku nervously looks at Eijirou before gently nudging the poor guy.
"Hey, Eijirou? You okay?" Izuku asks as Eijirou groans.
"…..bro, how did you survive his training every day?" Eijirou asks in a miserable tone.
"… Learning Armament as fast as possible…" Izuku says sagely as Eijirou glares at him. "Sorry, Eijirou. That's the only advice I could give you."
"How can I even learn it then?" Eijirou asks.
"It's….hard to explain, but you simply will it," Izuku says, making Eijirou look at Izuku in disbelief. "The willpower from your spiritual, you manifest it in a physical form and coat part of your body with it. Sorry, I'm not the best when it comes to explaining stuff."
"…." Eijirou simply groans and slams his face into the table, making Izuku wince even more. Then, Izuku notices that Yaomomo enters the class and the bandage covering her right cheek, making him widen his eyes in shock.
"Yaomomo, what happens?" Izuku asks in concern, getting her attention.
"Hello, Midoriya-san." Yaomomo greets him with a smile before holding her bandaged cheek. "Don't worry about me, I may have training too hard."
"R-really?" Izuku asks, slightly unconvinced but his Observation tells him that she's telling the truth.
"I am happy that you are worried about me, but please believe me," Yaomomo says, still keeping her smile.
"O-okay…." Izuku says as she goes back to her seat before muttering "How can I not be worried?" quietly. Then, more and more students enter the class and Izuku is greeted by Ochako.
"Hey, Izu-kun. How are you?" Ochako asks.
"I'm fine," Izuku says with a smile. "How about you?"
"I'm fine as well, thanks for asking," Ochako says cheerfully, but Izuku can't help but notice it was too cheerful. Then, Izuku hears a grumble coming out of Ochako's stomach, making Izuku worried and look at Ochako. She seems to notice this and slightly panic. "I-I'm fine, really!"
"Ochako…" Izuku says in a worried tone. Izuku can't help but see a pattern here, most of his friends who visit him in the infirmary aren't acting like usual. Like Eijirou having self-doubt issues more serious than before, Koda seemingly wants to give up, Yaomomo gets injured, and then Ochako. What happened in USJ affects them more than it did in the main timeline.
'Kid, you almost died!' Izuku holds himself from flinching at Yoichi's words. 'Just imagine a school trip where they're supposed to do some rescue work, then out of nowhere, villains attack, and one of them gets injured so badly to the point that he almost dies. To make it worse, it is one of their friends!'
'….oh…' Izuku wants to slap himself for being an idiot. Of course, it will affect them! Even if the one who almost died is a total stranger, it will still affect them so badly.
'I doubt that,' Izuku can't help but wonder what Bruce meant by that, but he didn't get the chance to ask as Nedzu entered the class, surprising everyone including him.
'Wait, wait, wait, Nedzu!?' Izuku thought as he returned to his seat. 'Did Aizawa's injuries worse than in canon!?'
"Greetings student. First of all, I would like to apologize for what happened in USJ. None of you should've gone through what you all did during the USJ, and because of our lack of preparation against the possibility of villains having a warp quirk, you all have to go through such things." Nedzu makes eye contact with Izuku, giving him an apologetic look. "We promise that we will increase our security for the sake of all of your safety. Second of all, given Aizawa decided for you all to skip the orientation, allow me to tell you about the U.A. school counselor. Please come in."
The door slides open as a bulky man with blonde hair that could be mistaken as a mane, a snout that resembles a dog's with a muzzle around it, and a hero costume that resembles a fur coat (Hound Dog), enters the class. Everyone watches the figure enter and stand beside Nedzu.
"This is Hound Dog, UA's school counselor," Nedzu says, his face showing a hint of regret. "He will provide academic and social-emotional support for all of the students. I….regret never telling you students about this despite knowing Aizawa's tendencies to skip the orientation. Again, I apologize for our failure."
'Huh…' Izuku thought, surprised with all the changes. It's not a bad change and he prefers this, just wish that it was done earlier before the USJ.
"And, another thing, Hound Dog shall be your current homeroom teacher until further notice." Okay, that is not something Izuku would expect, like at all.
"Um, sir. What happened to Mr. Aizawa?" Mina raises her hand and asks.
"Aizawa is….under suspension," Nedzu shamefully admits. "After what has happened in USJ, I had to do a re-evaluation on him."
'Okay, this is going in a completely different direction than I ever predicted!' Izuku thought in shock before he looked around to see everyone's reaction. Everyone seems to be surprised but there are hints of relief from them, and Izuku notices how Hanzo and Harumi are even more shocked compared to the rest of the students.
'The more subtle hints I notice, the more I am convinced they're also transmigrators.' Izuku thought. 'Or I just look into things too much,'
'Nope, you aren't. We also notice them as well,' Banjo states.
'One question remaining, what other massive changes Hanzo did do before you regain your memories, or did the bitch changes the timeline as well but no one seems to notice it?' En ponders.
"Sir, may I ask what you mean by what happened in USJ? He did his best to protect us from those villains and-!" Iida was cut off by Nedzu raising his hand.
"Apologies, my lack of context seems to create misunderstanding. It wasn't because of what he did in USJ," Nedzu says while adjusting his tie. "And before anyone asks, I can't disclose this matter with any of you."
"I see…" Iida muses.
"And there's another thing I would like to discuss," Nedzu says. "We shall postpone the Sports Festival to one month from now. There are….many things we need to do before we can safely start our Sports Festival. One of them is to increase the security."
"Is….that going to be okay?" Ojiro asks in worry.
"I understand your worries, and I know you all have your doubts after what happened. Especially after we failed you all," Nedzu says. "But, U.A. will do everything to do what it takes to make sure this shall never happen again. Apologies for the trouble…"
The students merely nod at the principal's words before Nedzu walks towards the door. He then pauses before looking at the students, giving them a sad smile, and walks out of the class. Everyone was silent before Hound Dog reached the class podium.
"All right, class. My name is Ryo Inui, and I go by Hound Dog in my job. And like what the principal said, I am going to be your homeroom teacher for the time being, and the school counselor. I understand what happened in USJ is bad, so I'm offering you to meet me at my counseling office after school. You can refuse it, but please bear in mind that you can seek me out if you need help." Inui says as everyone nods. "All right, with that out of the way, let me take your attendance first. It's one thing we forgot to do before giving that formal apology."
The joke is enough to lighten the mood as the entire student chuckles at Inui.
Later
Izuku can't help but feel much ease after the homeroom lesson with Hound Dog. Unlike Aizawa who gives a vibe of being pointed with a knife for every wrong move, Hound Dog gives a vibe of camping in the woods, warm and relaxing. It's a weird analogy, but it's the only one Izuku could think of.
Despite how the media depicted Hound Dog as a short-tempered man, he is very much a gentle giant. He made sure that the students were comfortable and he was very stern whenever Bakugou acted up. Also, he helped class 1-A fill up with all the information they didn't get during the orientation. One of them is regarding the class representative role as there will be a meeting between class representatives after the short break.
Izuku never feels like wanting to punch Aizawa for not telling him that.
"Izu-kun," Izuku turns to see Ochako who seems to emit a dark aura, the flame of determination burns from her eyes like a sun. "Let us do our best!"
"…..eh?" Izuku mutters while tilting his head in confusion. When did this happen?
"She's been like this after hearing the Sport Festival," Eijirou says with a nervous grin. "No offense, but she scares everyone."
"Let us do our best!" Ochako exclaims while pumping up her fist as everyone slightly backs away, cold sweat falling from their head.
"Aren't the Sports Festival still one month away?" Izuku asks.
"Well, it is still one of the most hype events on UA, I mean we get to be on TV!" Tooru pops out of nowhere, startling the boys.
"Is….that a good idea? I mean, we exposed ourselves to everyone, including villains," Jirou asks in worry.
"What a bunch of pussies."Bakugou grumbles, making everyone glare at him. "I'll fucking crush the festival so badly, the villains will think twice before attacking!"
"I think your face is enough to make them think twice," Izuku says in a deadpan manner, making everyone snicker at the insult while Bakugou glares at him.
"Say that again, Deku!" Bakugou roars while slamming the table and lets out explosions on his palm but Izuku decides to ignore him.
"Bakugou! Stop slamming the desk and use your quirk!" Iida exclaims.
"Shut it, Four-Eyes! You're not the boss of me!" Bakugou exclaims.
"How uncouth…" Yaomomo mutters while shaking his head.
"He sounds like my neighbor's Pomeranian barking, kero," Tsuyu says bluntly. Thankfully, Bakugou's yelling and explosions prevent him from hearing her words. Koda approaches Izuku and taps his shoulder, getting his attention.
"Oh, hey Koda." Izuku greets him. "How are you feeling right now?" Koda nods before he signs something. Izuku looks at each of his hand signs and he widens his eyes slightly. Koda has made a choice and he asks him for help.
"Well, I don't know how much I could help you with it, but I'll try my best to help you," Izuku says as Koda perks up and smiles.
"What are you guys talking about?" Eijirou asks curiously.
"Well, he asks for my help with something. I won't tell you, so you got to ask Koda, and don't force him to tell you." Izuku says as Eijirou simply nods in acceptance. Suddenly the door slides open and All Might appears in a bizarre position.
"I am here in a bizarre position!" If Izuku is drinking water right now, he would spit all of them out. Right now, he holds himself back from laughing out loud as everyone is in awe at All Might's appearance.
"Young Midoriya!" Izuku freezes as he feels like a deer in a headlight and everyone directs their attention towards him. "… May we talk? In my office?"
"Um….s-sure…" Izuku says nervously as he looks at everyone.
"Well, what are you waiting for, bro? Just go!" Eijirou says with a wide grin and slaps his back, which the rest of his friends agree with. Izuku merely nods and walks out of the class, not noticing Todoroki's, Bakugou's, Hanzo's, and Harumi's gazes are at him.
To be continued
