S.T.A.R. Attraction Part Two: Goldhog Day
Gotham City
S.T.A.R. Labs
16:41 (and 59 Seconds if you want to be specific)
Booster's lips were smiling cheerily, his eyes were not. An uncomfortable silence fell across the lobby as everyone stared at him, confusion on their expressions.
"What are you talking about, Wallace West is fine… Is he in danger? What do you know that we don't, Booster?" Nightwing asked, careful not to out Ace's secret identity as Kid Flash in front of Sarah.
"Also, he prefers to go by 'Ace'. You know, since we're on the topic." Flash added.
"Umm, who's Wally West?" Sarah whispered to Spidey, who simply shrugged in response.
Booster, not hearing Sarah's aside, didn't know how to reply, "Well, I imagine I know a lot of things you guys don't. Education in the twenty-fifth centu—"
"You know that's not what I'm talking about. What's the matter with Wallace?"
"Nothing, Wallace West is fine… Wally West on the other hand…"
"See, that's what I'm talking about, what's that supposed to mean?" Nightwing was growing frustrated.
"Yeah, seriously Booster, Ace is family, you gotta' tell us if there's anything wrong…" Flash added, his tone uncharacteristically severe.
"Honestly, the less you know the better, I'm not even sure myself… Skeets wasn't supposed to mention it…" Booster said as he side eyed his metallic companion.
"Sorry, Booster." Skeets replied.
"Hey, woah, don't blame the robot! You can't just waltz into our mission, mumble a bunch of incoherent nonsense, tell us a kid is in danger, pull some jazz hands, and try to brush it off like its nothing. This is too weird… Flash's powers are acting up anyway so I'm going outside and putting a call to Batman, he would've told us if you were supposed to be here, Booster. Don't touch anything. And after I get a sitrep, if Bats tells me that he didn't send you, you're leaving. Understand?" Black Canary said.
"You can't do that." Booster replied.
"Yes. I can. I'm team leader, as far as we know, you aren't even meant to be here." Canary replied as she approached the door.
"No, you literally can't do that we're stuck in a—" Canary teleported back to her earlier position as she attempted to leave the building, every froze and varying murmurs of shock peppered themselves about the group, "Time loop… I said you couldn't." Booster finished with a shrug as he felt Canary's wide eyes land on his own.
"Booster… You wanna' explain what's going on?" Canary asked before watching Dick approaching the door, "Wait, Nightwing, what are you doing? We have no idea what's—" she stopped as she watched as he too popped back in to place beside Spider-Man, several feet from the door, "… Never mind, I guess."
"Woah… trippy." Dick spoke as he felt himself softly being poked by Peter, "Why are you poking me?"
"Don't mind me, just checking you're real… That was risky you know; there's no guarantee that was safe, Canary could've just got lucky, plus Golden Boy here could've been lying." He said as he continued to poke at Dick's shoulder before he shrugged Peter's prodding away from him and gently slapped Peter's hand away.
"Eh, you're a scientist, call it an experiment, besides if you really thought it was dangerous you would've stopped me." Nightwing responded with a shrug.
"Maybe… or maybe I just wanted to see what would happen without risking my own skin…" Peter joked back before asking, "So, any ideas what just happened?"
Canary watched Spider-Man and Nightwing curiously for a moment before her expression shifted and she turned to face Booster Gold with severe eyes, "I have one. Booster… What did you do? Why can't we leave?!"
Booster blinked for a moment as a severe sense of Deju Vu struck him, before he replied, "We're frozen in a singular point in time… My suit has reacted to the EMP by… you know what, I'll let Skeets explain it, scan my suit, buddy." Booster replied, the robot did as he was asked, his iris flashing for a moment.
"Yup, Booster is correct." Skeets replied before detailing exactly what was happening to the group, to which they replied mostly exactly the same as they had in the timeline prior to this new one. Skeets eventually added, "It would also appear his suit's chronal system has attempted to protect him from the whatever is causing the spikes by trapping us in this point in time…
"Meaning…?" Canary asked, she had a hunch but wanted to hear it out loud.
"We are fixed in a loop, Booster's suit reset us to this point in the timeline after he died."
"What like Groundhog Day?" Flash asked.
"That was the name!" Booster called as he clicked his fingers and pointed at Flash.
"Wow… cool…" Nightwing muttered under his breath before shaking his head and correcting himself, "Wait a minute, no! That's not cool… You died?!"
Once again, Sarah turned and whispered to Spider-Man, asking him "We're in a loop? Who is this Booster guy anyway?"
Spider-Man replied, "Good question," he turned to Nightwing and saw the stress building on his face as he and Canary continued interrogating Booster, "You know what? I'm actually pretty new so I don't know yet, I'm sure we'll find out later, I'm guessing a chronal system means he's some kind of time traveller, plus the whole…"
"Time loop thing?" Sarah finished his sentence with an uncertain smile.
"Yeah… He's got a cool robot though…"
Canary continued as she ignored the whisperings of Spider-Man and Sarah in the background, "You aren't trying to lie to us, are you? Let's be honest Booster, you aren't the most forthcoming when it comes to your true intentions…"
"I won't take that personally."
"You should. I was talking about you personally."
"Ouch… Moving on from that… Just, trust me, we're not lying, I'm fairly certain we all died."
Canary sighed, her annoyance and scepticism around Booster's sudden appearance being overshadowed by the worrying implications of what he was saying, "So how'd you die, then? What's about to happen, Booster?"
"A big wave of electricity fried everyone to pieces and destroyed the whole building. At least I think it did, it seemed powerful enough to destroy everything. It definitely destroyed you and me." He replied, gesturing between himself and Canary, "Not sure about these guys though, we all split up."
Canary squinted as she stared at Booster, trying to ascertain if he was telling the truth or not, she acquiesced and sighed, "I can't believe I'm saying this, but I believe you."
"Great. So just follow my lead and we can get to the bottom of this, this time round."
"No. I believe you because Skeets is trustworthy… I can tell you're still not telling us the whole truth, we will revisit the 'Wally West' thing later… We've wasted enough time here, let's get going. Sarah, can you lead on?"
"Ummm… sure thing…" She offered Spider-Man another confused look, he met it with another shrug.
Once more, the team found themselves in the main labs, once more, Silas greeted them by approaching Flash with his hand outstretched, "Flash. How've you been? Central City still treating you well?"
Flash returned the greeting, "Oh you know, same ol', same ol'. The museum's had to go through some repairs after Captain Boomerang got a bit antsy last week, but otherwise things are going great, Silas. Thanks…"
"Good to hear… Though, forgive my bluntness, I hope you can figure out what's wrong fast, lots of these people want to get on with their projects. Lots more want to go home…" Silas Stone replied as he quickly looked the group once over and felt a tinge of regret when he saw that Vic wasn't present. He elected not to mention it, his son would have his reasons, and there was no point wasting any more time on his absence.
"Ummm… About that, Dr. Stone… We're gonna' need to keep everyone inside until this whole situation is fixed… There's been a… complication." Canary added as she approached Silas, side eyeing Booster as she did so.
"Oh? Nothing too serious, I hope?"
"Depends on what your definition of 'serious' is, but don't worry I've been through this before, it'll be a breeze." Booster replied.
Silas looked at Booster strangely as he replied, "Excuse me? What do you mean by that, Green Lantern?"
"Are you kidding me? You too? Why do people keep—?"
Canary cut Booster off, "We have some details we need to fill you in on, Silas. We'd like to keep it need to know… Can we?" She nodded her head to the side indicating they move themselves further from the other S.T.A.R. Labs employees.
Silas nodded in return and led them to a more secluded office to the side, talking once more when away from potential prying ears, "What's the situation looking like?"
"Well… first things first, Dr Stone, no one can leave, the whole facility is frozen in a fixed point in time and any time someone tries to leave they will... bounce back to where they were, for lack of a better description." Canary stated, plainly, but seasoned with the severity it entailed.
Silas went wide eyed for a moment, "I see… That is rather… concerning. I suppose that would explain why my watch seems stuck, though."
Canary sighed, "There's more… Booster?"
"Right. Well first of all, I'm not Green Lantern, let's stump that in the bud first of all," Booster didn't see as Nightwing and Flash shared a look as he misquoted a common idiom, Spider-Man too pulled a confused expression below his mask, "Name's Booster Gold, I'm sure now I've said it, you've heard of me?"
"Not at all."
Booster's face dropped a fraction as he softly sighed and continued, "Okay, well whatever… Main thing, we're in a time loop… I've been through this before, and not to stress you out, but we died…"
Silas's eyes widened again, larger this time, he looked to Flash and Canary who nodded solemnly, as if it was fact they had already accepted, "Fascinating… and the timeline resets each time…?"
Skeets interjected, "It has only happened once so far, but the data tells me that we will continue to reset any time Booster Gold dies, as long as the EMP is active throughout the building, at least. The fixed point and loop have both originated from the Chronal engine in Booster's suit."
"Well… That is grave news… But I get the impression there is more to your story." He looked back to Flash.
"Don't look at me, I'm in the dark from this point on… Only Golden boy here remembers what happened in the other timeline."
"Hey, that's what I called him." Peter muttered to himself.
"That's what Spider-Man called him." Nightwing also muttered to himself.
Canary spoke, not hearing Dick or Peter, "Booster, it's time to spill it, what's going to happen?"
"Okay well first things first, I didn't see who was causing the EMP, but we basically confirmed it was Spider-Man's enemy, Electron…"
"Umm… You mean Electro…? And, er, did we?" Spider-Man spoke as he looked around him confused.
"Yes. That voice you all heard? Yeah, they were asking for Spider-Man, not Anne, or whatever."
"Did I miss the part where you spoke to me? Cause I feel like this is the first time you've interacted with me since you've arrived." Spider-Man muttered under his breath, not expecting a response.
"Yes! Of course you 'missed it'… we did it last time! Time loop, catch up." Booster replied as he rolled his eyes.
"It was a rhetorical question…" Peter spoke softly to himself; he felt a pat on his back from Nightwing who just smiled at him apologetically.
Silas eyed the stranger who he figured must be Spider-Man as he listened to Booster's continued explanation, "We think he's the cook or something, maybe the janitor I can't remember… Canary, you and I spoke to the interns…"
"The interns?" Canary replied.
"Warner and Anne…" Silas added.
"But I guess you don't have to do that now then if we know Anne isn't to blame?" Sarah spoke.
"Kinda… they aren't really interns…"
"What?"
"How about we all stop with the questions and guesses until Booster has said what he needs to say…?" Canary said noticing the slight agitation growing on his face.
"Thanks, boss. Yeah, turns out the interns are bad guys, Warner is actually this Vampula sounding guy called 'Vertigo' or something…"
"Count Vertigo?!" Nightwing couldn't help but blurt out.
Booster nodded and carried on, "Yup. And the girl, Anne, she's this weird goop monster thing… I don't know who or what, I kinda…"
"The data from Booster's suit tells me that at that point in time, my body was destroyed and Booster lost consciousness."
"Yeah, that. I woke up, Vertigo was Verti-gone, well his consciousness was at least, and goo girl was… I don't know where goo girl was actually… it didn't matter though because, like a second later… boom."
"We all died?" Canary asked.
"Yeah."
"So how much time do we have to fix the problem then?"
"A few minutes maybe, not long… We need to get to the generator and stop whatever Mr Arachnid here's villains are up to." He said as he pointed a thumb at Spider-Man.
"Wow… Thanks for saying arachnid." Spider-Man replied.
"Spiders are arachnids, isn't that common knowledge in this time?"
"Less common than you'd hope." Peter replied through a sigh.
Silas eventually spoke, "Well… that certainly was a lot to digest in one go. What do you need from me and Sarah?"
Booster looked to Canary, to check he should be the one to call the shots, she nodded, he had far more information about what was coming than anyone else, "Nothing, except let everyone know they can't leave, and maybe get them away from the lab area and canteen. Skeets has the blueprints for the layout of the facility, so we need to get to the canteen first to stop Electro, and then shut off the EMP at the generator."
"No." Canary spoke.
"What? You just let me—"
"No, we will stop Electro and shut down the time loop, but after we deal with Vertigo and his… goo monster or whatever."
"We don't have tim—"
"Yes, we do. We don't just leave civilians in danger, Booster. With all of us, this will be quick, besides if the villains have been able to infiltrate S.T.A.R. Labs, there could be more members of staff compromised. Dr Stone, can you and Sarah question the rest of your staff after we've dealt with the 'interns'?"
"Of course." Silas nodded.
Sarah too nodded, as formally as she possibly could, trying to contain her excitement and being given a mission from one of her two big superhero crushes.
"Flash, after we've dealt with Vertigo, you'll stick with Sarah and Silas in case there's trouble."
"Sounds good to me." He replied.
"Actually, that reminds me, Count Vampula mentioned something about the other villains 'needing' Spider-Man and Flash, they might have something to do with the explosion! Yes! Yeah… They should both stay back. Now that I think on it, they were probably needed to set off the blast." Booster added as he clicked his fingers with the realisation.
Flash and Spider-Man stared at each other for a moment with concern.
Canary looked at Booster suspiciously, "This isn't some ploy to get us to split and save time is it, because I'd rather keep us as one unit…"
"No. Well it would save time, but I'm telling the truth… Also, I may have blacked out, but I mean, you were able to take down both Vertigo and Goo girl on your own so… These two should be fine as a pair, right?"
Canary chewed her lip for a moment as she thought, "Fine… That's the play, everyone clear? Nightwing, Booster, Skeets and I will go to the canteen, you two stay here, take down Vertigo and his meta, once we know why Spider-Man and Flash are needed and we know its safe to do so, we'll reconvene at the generator to shut down the EMP."
"Split up and take down the bad guys, then big team up to stop the generator? Sounds good to me… Er, could someone point us to this 'Vertigo' guy." Spider-Man added.
"Over there. Play it cool, they don't know, that we know, that they aren't who they say." Booster pointed to that 'Vertigo guy' not hiding his disgust as he watched the villain pretend to console the other 'intern' in a side office.
"Right. We got our jobs, remember local comms still work, so stay in contact everyone." Canary spoke, resolutely.
"That goes double for you guys, Electro can be tricky, he's aggressive and fast, but he's sloppy… Just… I know you were briefed, but… just- you know, be careful." Spider-Man said, not hiding his frustration at not being able to actually take point on his villain.
While softened, Peter was still struggling with his anxieties of being in a new wolrd, and leaving new allies to deal with Electro deeply upset the sense of responsibility within in him.
"We'll be fine, man. You be careful with Vertigo too, yeah?" Nightwing said as he put his hand on Spider-Man's shoulder.
"Right. Yeah…" Peter turned to Flash, "You wanna' take point? You know this guy better than me."
Flash nodded, and the two groups promptly split up, Flash and Peter hung back for a moment while they waited for Silas and Sarah to break the bad news, to which there was a myriad of groans and complaints before Dr Stone shot them down and the all staff except the two 'interns' began to depart.
To Silas and Sarah's credit, they both kept their cool as they told 'Warner' and 'Anne' they needed to stay back to answer some questions, and Peter felt no threat from them as they looked to Flash and Spider-Man, though Booster appeared to be right about Flash and Spider-Man's roles. Count Vertigo's face shifted for a second into mild annoyance when he noticed the two heroes that were left to question them.
"Well, they took that well…" Flash said with a hint of sarcasm, as he nodded to the other actual staff, many of whom were fixing the two heroes with evil eyes as they filtered out of the labs.
"I'll say, pretty sure I felt my Spider-Sense rumble from that one." Peter replied as he nodded to the woman who was scowling cruelly at them.
"Oh, ignore her, that's just Debbie. She's a lab tech, part of Silas' team from Metropolis… met her a couple times and, I don't like talking badly of people but, she's an… acquired taste. Just… umm, don't ask Sarah about her…"
"Oh? Bad blood?" Spider-Man replied.
"And then some, not to be a gossip but—eh, what am I saying? Let's gossip! We gotta' wait for these guys to clear out anyway, don't repeat this, but apparently, she has very poor bathroom etiquette… If you catch my drift."
"What like, not washing her hands…?"
"More like, dropping bombs and not flushing… she's caused some plumbing damage in Metropolis before."
"Really? She does not seem the type…"
"What's that supposed to mean, is that some kind of gender bias thing, Spidey? Cos you know women can be just as gross as men…"
"Wha- No! I just mean like…" Peter saw as Flash smirked at him, "You're messing with me, aren't you?"
"Yep."
Peter chuckled and sighed, "What I meant was, no one seems that type, who the hell doesn't flush after… you know. Like that's just common decency, right?"
"Tell me about it. I remember once, when I was borrowing some tech from Silas, her and Sarah were just ripping into each other because Debbie had clogged the toilet again… It was so awkward… Me and Silas just had to pretend we couldn't hear every word."
"Wow… I'm gonna' level with you Flash, I was not expecting to be talking with you about a strangers pooping habits on my first League assignment."
"Hah. I don't make it a habit, but you seemed tense, so what better way to break that tension… The Avengers weren't big gossipers then I take it?"
"Well… I could tell you some of stories from Spider-Woman about what goes on in Avengers Tower, apparently Hulk's plumbing damages have their own section in the monthly finances. Iron Man apparently had to pay for an entirely separate throne and pipe for the guy, one that could handle the 'gamma bombs' he was dropping."
Flash chuckled genuinely at that, before replying, "Spider-Woman, that's your clone sister, right?"
"No, one of them is, but I got that from the other one."
"Ah… Any relation?"
"Nope. None at all. We get this a lot actually, but it's mostly just coincidence."
"Really? Isn't that weird?"
"Little bit, but we run in different circles mostly… Funny story actually, we got our powers around the same time, different origins, different abilities but similar enough we chose basically the same name. Get this though, we found out later we actually went to the same school and everything, couple years apart."
"Wow… now that is a coincidence… Oh, Speaking of coincidences one time Iris and I—"

S.T.A.R. Labs – Canteen Entrance
As Flash and Spider-Man continued their conversation while they waited, the other team had just arrived outside the canteen.
"So, what happens now?" Nightwing asked as they approached the door.
"I don't know, I wasn't with you guys." Booster replied.
"I was talking to Canary, Booster…"
Canary scouted through the glass doors into the empty dining space, nobody could be seen. "Well, no one appears to be inside, are you sure Electro was here?"
"Last I heard the others came here and we interrogated the interns, then Flash called for backup and that's when Vertigo revealed himself…"
"Hmmm… well I'll switch to infrared and—Wait, Vertigo revealed himself when Flash called for backup? Had we done anything to tip him off before that?"
"No… Why?"
Canary pinched her nose and breathed out heavily as she turned to Dick, "Nightwing?"
"Already on it." Dick replied having already began typing on the holographic interface on his arm as he ran diagnostics of their local communications network to check if they had been breached.
"Umm sorry to interrupt Nightwing, but as soon as I saw you open the panel, I tested your comms channel myself. It would appear you have indeed been hacked, there are two extra devices on your network. One in the labs and one by the generator in the basement." Skeets said as he projected holographic blueprints of the layout of S.T.A.R. Labs.
"Vertigo… Him and Electro must have tapped into our comms as soon as we arrived." Canary said with disdain before she turned to Booster.
"Oh, like I was supposed to just connect those dots?! Sorry for being a little out of it! Must I remind you I was disintegrated into dust 5 minutes ago!" Booster replied with exasperation when he felt Nightwing and Canary look at him.
"Woah… Hey! No one's blaming you, man." Nightwing replied slightly taken aback by Booster's defensive tone.
"Agreed. Booster, you died… We all died. You've just experienced one of the most traumatic events anyone could go through, there's no way you're going to be at the top of your game… Sorry we've all been a little on edge since the 'Wally West' thing. Just… Take a breath, okay? It's good we caught this now… Skeets, can you shut down the comms without alerting the third parties?"
"I have already set up a new frequency without them and sent word to Flash and Spider-Man…"
"Wow, just now?" Nightwing asked.
"No. As soon as I tested it."
"Huh… Impressive. Not even Oracle works that fast…"
"Not to brag, but I am a computer from the 25th century, no one in this era does."
"Well, that's something at least, but you guys should see this, there's movement in the kitchen." Canary said as she scanned for the heat signatures in the canteen as the others talked.
"What are they doing?" Nightwing asked as he too switched his lenses to scan mode.
"I—It looks like they're… making soup or something?" Canary said as she turned to Nightwing.
"Maybe he's deep into his cover?" Nightwing offered.
"Or this guy isn't undercover at all and is just the chef. He's not even on our network, we should get to the generator before we all blow up… I'd like not to go through that again."
"Maybe. But you said we sent Nightwing and the others to the canteen, and Flsah called for backup, right? Not to the generator… The source of the explosion could just as easily have come from here… And as far as we know, Flash and Spider-Man were the catalysts, so we have more time."
"That's just a theory."
"You're theory… I'm not undermining you Booster, but we need more confirmation; this is a lead we have to follow. Nightwing, you take this door and approach directly, be on guard, but keep cool we'll question this guy quickly and let the others know."
"Seriously?" Booster grumbled, mostly to himself.
"Yes seriously, you said yourself we're on a time crunch!" Canary jabbed back, not with any venom, but a sense of urgency, "we can't leave loose ends, not if the consequences are everyone dying… I get you're stressed, but please stop arguing so we can work quicker."
Booster just nodded slowly in response, reluctantly.
Canary nodded back and continued, "Booster, you and I will enter the canteen from the two other entrances at the side after Nightwing engages… understood?"
"Understood." Nightwing replied as he made his way through the main entrance.
"Understood…" Booster muttered begrudgingly as he and Canary shared a look before they both made their way in opposite directions to the two side doors down the halls around the canteen.
Meanwhile
S.T.A.R. Labs – Main Lab
"So, they were on our comms? Great… You know this becoming a really annoying pattern, what's the point of us even having these things if they're compromised or not working nearly every mission I'm on? And that's saying a lot because I've barely been on any missions!" Spider-Man muttered with annoyance to Flash.
"I hear you, man. But look on the Bright side, at least they work now… Looks like everyone's out, shall we go talk to these ne'er-do-wells?"
"Yes… let's. Any tips on Vertigo?"
"Just try not to throw up, maybe punch him before he gets the chance to activate his implant."
"What does his implant do?"
"It causes this 'Vertigo effect' as we call it, disrupts someones balance to an extreme degree, causes nausea and can even incapacitate quickly if it isn't stopped in time…"
"Wow… 'vertigo effect' how'd you come up with that? So, this guy's power is basically making people dizzy? Well, that confirms my suspicions at least… Sounds similar to this woman on my old world, Vertigo… Me and Angel from the X-Men tussled with her in the Savage Land…" Peter noticed Flash's eyebrow raise at that, "X-Men, team of mutant heroes. Angel, mutant with wings. Savage land, An island full of dinosaurs. I'll tell ya the story later if you like, but now I just wonder if my theory will pan out…"
"Okay, well now I'm curious, but I'll save my questions until after… You know, you gotta' tell me more about your world sometime… And don't forget 'goo girl' whoever that could be…"
"Oh, trust me, I'm good with goo, Slimbiote, remember?" Peter said as a little black tendril sprouted from his shoulder and waved, taking both Flash and Spider-Man aback with mild surprise, "Woah first time they've done that, getting more comfortable huh, buddy?"
The other hummed in his subconscious with affirmation.
"Ha… You're a hoot, Spider-Man. Ya gotta' come round Central City sometime… Something tells me you'd get on well with my rogues… You know as we both punch them." Flash said as he patted Spider-Man's back, and they both casually strolled into the side office.
They're attention was grabbed by 'Anne' almost immediately upon entering the room.
'Anne' perked up when she saw the two heroes enter, the most animated she had appeared since she was told she needed to wait in the office and stay behind as everyone else left, suddenly in this moment it looked as if her shattered life might have a hope at being mended.
Peter and Barry both had to admit, she played her part extremely well, but both of them could feel the intense glare they were receiving from Werner Vertigo who was struggling to keep his composure as he played the part of the older intern.
"Oh my god! Flash, Right? You gotta' believe me; I have nothing to do with this! I-I—I have no idea why the voice in the computer would say my name, you have to believe me! Please!" 'Anne' spoke.
"It's alright the jig is up… you don't have to pretend." Flash stated.
"Oh... It is? I thought we were going with the subtle approach?" Spider-Man replied genuinely confused.
"Oh, my bad… We completely forgot to discuss that before we entered…"
"Nah, don't blame yourself we both dropped the ball there."
"I-I am confused, is this some kind of interrogation trick, because I must say I don't appreciate you stressing Anne out anymore—" Werner spoke with a faux American accent, before Spider-Man cut him off by webbing his wig and snatching it from his head, "Ah… I see. Clayface, crush them."
"Clayface! That's who goo girl is! Ah… That was bugging me, being trying to figure that out since Booster said it." Flash replied as he ran at Vertigo and lifted him into the air in a second eliciting a small cry of fear from the villain, "Let me guess, control switch? Now where is it?"
Flash used his super speed to search around for the control device they were most likely using on Clayface, remembering the report he heard from Batman about the Light using Mad Hatter to implant nanobots for them into Clayface.
As Flash did his search, Peter back flipped out of the path of a giant clay arm shot in his direction as it shattered the glass walls of the office they were in, leaping out of the smaller space and into the main lab as he avoid punch after punch from Clayface as he had now shed their disguise of Anne.
"Control switch? You telling me that Hydroman and Sandman's gooey love child here isn't here of their own free will?" Spiderman said as he hopped off a desk into a sideways somersault and fired an impact web at Clayface.
He watched with fascination as Clayface sucked the web into himself with a satisfying 'Shhlloop'.
"No, I'm no—" Clay face started saying, rather depressed as he still tried his best to take down Spider-Man who was flipping and dodging out of the path of all his attacks as the two of them took their battle further into the main office.
"Clayface, stop talking!" Vertigo yelled cutting Clayface's sentence short.
"Sorry to say this County but you kinda just proved it." Flash said as he found the device and grabbed it.
He was moments away from crushing it before suddenly every atom in his body screamed at him in agony and he once again saw as images he couldn't comprehend battered through his skull.
He dropped the device on the floor as sparks of yellow lighting came from his body and he dropped Vertigo and fell to his knees in anguish.
Vertigo fell onto his ass for moment before immediately capitalising on Flash's sudden loss of power and jumping to his feet, kicking Flash in the face and activating his implant, causing Flash to crawl sloppily for a moment as he tried to regain his bearings before losing consciousness entirely.
"Flash!" Spider-Man yelled as he watched with horror at the development.
The distraction made him forget to react to his Spider-Sense and he didn't have time to duck out of the way of the sofa being thrown his way by Clayface, he braced for impact and held up his hands in preparation for the hit as he cringed.
The sofa never hit and instead was caught by a large black tentacle that sprouted from his back before being callously tossed back at Clayface who exploded slightly from the impact, 'Goo versus goo? That was cool, thanks, pal…' he thought to himself and The Other before immediately rushing to Flash's aid.
Vertigo turned towards the approaching hero, and intensified his implant, to no avail.
"I—I don't understand why aren't you falling to your knees with nausea? I've disrupted your balance." Count Vertigo asked as he strained himself further.
Peter kept flipping and dodging out of the path of Clayface's continued relentless attacks, delaying his approach to Flash and Vertigo. He replied, "Well that confirms my theory! Sorry Count Dracula, I have perfect balance, I'm immune to vertigo. I mean just look at me, does it look like I can get dizzy?"
Vertigo watched him and began to understand, just watching how Spider-Man flipped twisted and moved continually without stopping was making him dizzy, he growled in annoyance as he replied, "you may be immune to my Vertigo effect, but are you immune to bullets?"
He pulled out his pistol and began firing frantically at Spider-Man until the mag was empty, no bullets landed, he dodged every single one flawlessly except one which he caught with a weird black tentacle.
"Look at that, guess I am, sorry dude but once I deal with this Clayface character, I'm coming for you." Peter landed and noticed Clayface was gone entirely, "Huh? Where'd they go?"
His Spider-Sense blared, and he leapt into the air only to feel his entire body constricted as he noticed Clayface had condensed themself to a small spot below him before reconstituting their entire body around him, trapping him entirely.
Peter struggled against it with all his strength, it wouldn't yield, it was like being trapped in… well clay. It only seemed to shift a fraction, unable to be torn, "Okay, I'll admit this situation is less than ideal, but I've got out of worse…" Spider-Man spoke as he continued to struggle against Clayface's form around him.
"So I've heard…" Vertigo admitted, "But not without your powers I'm guessing."
Vertigo pulled out the inhibitor collar from his bag next to the, now missing, sofa, (having been thrown at Spider-Man moments earlier) he threw the collar to Clayface who absorbed it, "Put it round his neck and turn it on."
Clayface complied and Peter felt as his hood was pulled down by the clay around him, he still couldn't move properly, and neither could The Other as they jabbed at the clay all around them with multiple sharp black spikes, peppering little holes about Clayface's body which instantly mended themselves.
Peter felt the collar being fastened to his neck and audibly gulped as he heard a beep and saw the orange light on its centre turn green, "Release him. I want to take this disrespectful peasant down myself. Besides, we need these two alive."
Peter was dropped to the floor unceremoniously and Clayface dissolved them self and rebuilt their body a few feet away and watched from the side. Peter looked up from his knees and spoke, "Ummm… I appreciate that, but for future reference, maybe don't fire a gun at the guy you want to keep alive…"
Vertigo growled as he approached, "You are right, but my tempers have cooled so now you will finally feel the power at my disposal…" he activated his implant, once more and poured all he could into the intensity.
Nothing. Peter still felt nothing, Vertigo looked at him confused, "I—What is happening!?"
Peter just froze for a moment before looking up and standing, laughing as he did, "Oh, Vertigo… It is just not your day, is it?"
Vertigo looked at him perplexed for a moment before yelling, "Clayfa—"
He was cut off as Peter socked him in the face, hard enough to knock him down, but soft enough to keep him conscious, "Lemme' guess, these collars are built to suppress the Meta-Gene?" he said as he grabbed the collar on his neck and crushed it into pieces.
"I-I—What are you? You vexing Arachnid!" Vertigo called desperately from the floor as he wiped the blood from his nose.
"Hey, you got it right! Second person today! That means a lot man, thanks. But to answer your question, I'm not a Metahuman, I'm all spider, all man, I'm Spider-Ma—Yano what, that's stupid, I'm not gonna' finish that… like an 80s action hero line, jeez my quip game is getting rusty."
"Clayfa—" Vertigo's mouth was webbed shut and the rest of his body soon followed, and he was stuck fastened to the floor.
Peter crouched next to Vertigo's writhing form, "But really, if you wanna' get science-y I'm a mutate… apparently, that's what Xavier told me at least. Who knew multidimensional radioactive spiders can make you immune to Metahuman inhibitor collars… I wonder if MythBusters ever covered that?"
Peter stood back up and looked to Clayface who was still stood to the side, "I guess you can't attack me now, huh?"
Clayface shook their head.
"This the thing that controls you?" he said, pointing at the small, radio looking device on the floor.
Clayface nodded, Spider-Man shot a web and caught the controller, "If I destroy will you be free?"
Clayface shrugged with urgency as they shook their head, their face communicating they didn't know, and they were scared of the implications if it didn't.
"Right, duh-doy! You can speak now." Spider-Man said as he pressed the small button on the controller.
Clayface breathed out a sigh of relief before talking, "I dunno' last time Robin set me free of the command before I went to lock up."
"Which Robin?"
"The nerdy one, not the scary one…"
"Red Robin got it. Alright, well I command you to be the master of your own free wi—Unless wait, answer my next question honestly, you won't attack me if I set you free, will ya?"
"Nah, I swear, I just wanna' get outta' here."
"Alright, then. I command you to not be commanded anymore, or whatever."
Clayface's form seemed to relax a bit, and he immediately shifted back into Anne's form.
"Back to Anne? Do I call you she or they or what?"
"Anne's just a role, I used to be an actor… Anne's a she, Clayface is a he."
"Interesting… Well, I gotta say pal, you're good, really good. You like immediately got back into role."
"Thanks, I won a few TV awards in my time…" Anne said with a blush, still effortlessly sounding and replying as if they really were an early twenties intern, "Hey, you're that new hero right, Spider-Man?"
"That's me, listen, Anne… Clayface, whoever, I dunno' if I can just let you leave" 'I mean you couldn't if you wanted to, but I'll leave that for now.' "I remember being told about you by Bats, aren't you a criminal?"
"Yeah, but… I won't run, I wanna' stay with the other staff if you'll let me, they were nice. I can just say Vertigo had like, kept me hostage or something, I dunno'."
"Hmmm… You know what, you've been straight with me so far, I'll allow it, besides I don't wanna' fight you any more than necessary, I gotta' check in with Flash. You'll turn yourself over to the authorities after, right?"
"Yeah. I promise, I wanna' get back to my book club at Arkham anyway."
"Oh, you got a book club? What you reading?" Spider-Man replied casually as he strolled past Vertigo's red faced and writhing form and moved towards Flash.
"Dune."
"Oh, for real? I watched the old movie with my Aunt once, never got round to the books, they any good?"
"I'm enjoying it, I'm about halfway through. Gets pretty high concept though, but I was always a sucker for a good sci-fi."
"Same, I'm a bit of a Trekkie myself," he turned away from Anne for a moment as he gently shook Flash awake, "Flash, Flash, you good?"
"Eh… Clayface was more of a Star Wars kid, Anne's a big Star Trek fan, though."
Flash regained conscious and pulled himself to his feet, with the help of Spider-Man, "ugh, my head, am I still delirious or are you talking about Star Wars?"
"Star Trek actually, Anne's a big fan."
Flash turned to Anne confused, Anne just waved back, "Spider-Man you know that's Clayface, right?"
"Yeah, I know, but he's in role, you missed a bit, sorry. They've agreed to go back into lock up once we can all leave."
"Oh, well, nice to meet you then, I guess. I like both… Star Trek and Wars I mean." Flash said as he tried to rub the lingering nausea out of his head.
"Oh boo…" Spider-Man said.
"Such a safe answer." Anne said with a hint of mocking.
"Hey, I just woke up! Don't boo me."
"Sorry, man. We should probably go join the others now, you good?"
"Yeah, but I think my powers are shot."
"I'll send word to Black Canary, wait, Anne there isn't anyone else here, right?"
"Not that I know of Vertigo never left my side." Anne replied as she fixed Vertigo with a cold stare.
"That tracks, let's go Spider-Man, nice to meet you Anne, Clayface, whatever, I'm still dizzy, sorry. This is weird."
"It's fine." Anne replied.
"Well, Clayface, it's been real, and I hate doing Star Wars references, so treasure this, may the force be with you… But may Anne live long and prosper…" Spider-Man spoke as he did the Vulcan salute.
"Thanks." Anne said with a smile before shifting her form back into Clayface, he spoke once more, "Really kid, I mean it, I won't forget what you've done for me. Flash, tell the resta' the League they picked a good one."
"I will, thanks Clayface, sorry about the Light mind controlling you… Again."
"Don't worry about it." Clayface replied before shifting back into Anne and walking away in the direction the other staff went, "good luck with the EMP or whatever!"
They watched Anne leave before Spider-Man turned to Flash, "Speaking of EMPs, we should go."
"Yeah."
"You sure you're good? I can carry you, if you want."
"I appreciate the offer, but I've been embarrassed enough today as it is. Let's go."
Suddenly Spider-Man grabbed his head and fell to his knees, "Agh!"
"Spider-Man what's going on… Don't tell you're powers are acting up too?"
"No—Uh, it's my Spider-Sense its going haywire!" he replied through gritted tieeth as his Spider-Sense demolished all his senses and overwhelmed him completely.
Suddenly it ceased, a calm before the storm, and he froze before slowly standing up, turning to Flash and saying, "Oh god. I think we're all going to die again."
Before they could react, a deafening 'Boom' rang through the building and Flash stumbled about while Spider-Man caught him and kept them both upright.
Then there was a light. Ripples of electricity began ripping apart the building and Flash felt something within him spark, setting fire to every molecule in his body. He screamed in pain and Peter watched in horror as pure white, yellow, bright power exploded outward from within Barry, singing his own hands and arms as he held Flash upright. Flash's entire body was fried from the inside out as he was ripped apart into ash right before his eyes.
"Flash!" he yelled 'But Booster Gold said that we caused the explosion, what's happening?!'
He felt panic overtake him, and once more his Spider-Sense screamed at him, he would've yelled. He didn't have time. He was disintegrated by a bright blue wave of electricity. Then the entire building followed.
A Minute Earlier
S.T.A.R. Labs – Canteen
"This is not Electro! There is no way!" Booster called as he ducked behind a table for cover from a myriad of sauces being flung in every direction.
Nightwing was laughing as he leapt and delivered a knee to Condiment King's face, "Condiment King! Freaking Condiment King! I forgot he got out on parole and got a job here."
Buddy Standler fell back to the ground and let out a grunt of anguish, he was about to pull himself up but saw as a blue Escrima Stick was pointed in his face, "Nightwing, this is your last warning, don't make me unleash my devastating new prototype."
"I'd rather you didn't, my suits just been washed." Canary said as she too entered his view and looked down at him with a smirk.
"And that is why you should all fear the Condi—"
"God, I miss Spider-Man, he'd have webbed this guys mouth up by now… Seriously, Buddy, what are you playing at, you get out on good behaviour and just go back to the same old ways?" Nightwing said as he walked behind Buddy, pushed him so he was sitting up and began cuffing him.
"Unhand me you fascist!" Condiment King protested, to no result.
"Or what, you'll put chilli sauce in my eyes? Actually, that does sound pretty painful, hey jeez, hold still, will you? You're only gonna' hurt yourself."
"Wow, called a fascist by a guy who robs people by squirting ketchup at them, guess you can tick that one off your bucket list, Nightwing." Canary joked as she watched the ridiculous display.
Eventually the cuffs were secure, and Booster sidled back up to the other two who looked at him and barely contained their giggles, he was covered head to toe in various sauces, the only one who was unable to dodge in time.
"Save it. Not a word… ugh what is this stuff?" he asked as he inspected his arm covered in a brown sticky liquid, "Is this poop? Am I covered in poop?!"
"Relax… it smells like BBQ sauce; it'll wash out fine." Canary said with a chuckle.
"Easy for you to say, you're not the one dressed like sauce platter… hey, skeets!"
Skeets shook his body, which was also covered in sauce, covering everyone in the room to varying cries of annoyance, "Yes, Booster?"
"The loop restarts every time I die, right?"
"Yep."
"Good. Kill me… please."
"Oh, don't be such a baby, it's just sauce." Nightwing said, "clearly, Buddy here had nothing to do with the EMP."
"What EMP?" Condiment King replied.
"Case and point. So, you mentioned someone else, the Janitor? That must be Electro then?"
Suddenly, Booster was taking from his moping and his eyes went wide under his lenses, "No! Crap… Spider-Man said the Janitor was probably some guy called Vulture, I completely forgot about that. Damnit!"
"What? Vulture? So, where's Electro-"
A violent 'Boom!' shook the building, bits of the ceiling began crumbling around them, crushing cafeteria tables.
"No, no! Not again!" Booster cried with horror.
Then there was a light. Ripples of electricity began ripping apart the building everyone would've yelled. They didn't have time. They were disintegrated by a bright blue wave of electricity. Then the entire building followed.
Gotham City
S.T.A.R. Labs
16:41 (and 59 Seconds if you want to be specific)
As soon as feeling returned to his body and light to his eyes, Booster yelled, "Shit!" much to everyone's shock.
"Booster! What the hell are you doing he—"
"No! I am not going through this whole thing again. We're in Groundhog day!"
"What are you—"
"Shhh! Skeets! Diagnostics, explain."
"Groundhog day? What the hell is this guy talking about? Who is this?" Sarah asked as she turned to Spider-Man.
He just slowly turned to her and shrugged, "I have no idea. I am just as confused as you."
"Booster! This is unacceptable! You can't just waltz into our mission and start swearing! Get out of here now. No! Stay here I'm calling Batman."
"Hah. You can try, it won't work you'll just pop back right where you started!"
Canary ignored him and scowled as she barged passed him, purposefully budging him with her shoulder, once again she hit the doorway and immediately teleported back to where she started, "Booster… What did you do!"
"Skeets…" Booster said with impatience.
"It would appear as if the EMP in this building has tampered with the chronal system in Booster's suit and we're all stuck in a singular point in time."
"That's just the start of it, tell them about the loop."
"Loop? What loop? You better explain yourself soon, Booster, or I swear to god, I will punch you." Canary stated with venom, Boosters sudden arrival and manic speech immediately testing her patience and sending her over the edge.
"Not to jump on the band wagon, but me too, what is up with you, you've always been a bit odd, but this is just insane behavior. It is not how the League operates…" Nightwing added, thoroughly unimpressed.
Once again, Skeets explained everything after analysing the data from Booster's suit. He left out the information about Wally West though, after almost slipping up a couple times only to be corrected back on track by Booster.
"See, I'm not insane. I just… Crap! How did we die? We need to get to the generator, I'm telling you." Booster said.
"Woah… that's a lot… Booster… You died?! Twice?" Canary asked, her rage mostly subsided as she looked into the pain behind his eyes.
"We all did, it was not pleasant. So please let's just go straight to the generator, no messing about…"
"Booster, if Vertigo is here, we can't just leave civilians in danger."
"No! That's what you said last time, and we all died."
"Then we move as one unit this time, take him and his meta 'goo girl' down and go to the generator… Understood?"
"Fine. But we have to move… Quickly!"
They did, Sarah looking about her completely perplexed as once again, Spider-Man just shrugged to her to indicate he was just as confused as she was.
They left Skeets with Sarah to explain everything to Dr Stone who hurriedly called for fire procedures, careful not to let anyone actually leave the building but put as much distance between them and the ensuing fight as possible.
The fight began just as the last few were leaving, and with all five League members present the fight was over quickly, Spider-Man once again relishing in the fact Count Vertigo's powers didn't work on him.
Booster made note of the fact the 'goo girl' was someone called Clayface who was being mind-controlled, and that Flash's powers shorted out as soon as he used them, information that was new to him this time but now he would be prepared for in case they had to repeat the process.
'No. There's not going to be a next time, dying twice in one night is more than enough!' Booster thought to himself as he watched Anne walk away to join the others.
"Come on, the generator's this way." He said with mild desperation as he started walking away.
"Booster, woah! Slow down a bit." Canary called as she watched him walk away, Nightwing and Spider-Man looking at her with confused expressions, visible even under Spider-Man's mask as he covered Vertigo in webs, "Come on we gotta' hurry after him before he does something rash."
They both nodded and all four of the others rushed to join him, even Flash who was much more on edge since they all knew his powers didn't work.
Booster turned as he saw Spider-Man and Flash join him as he flew down the halls, he paused and stopped in the halls outside the canteen. "No. Not you two," he pointed at Flash and Spider-Man, "Vertigo said they needed you two, remember? You might be the cause of the explosion!"
"But you said we weren't with you the last two times and both times everyone exploded?" Spider-Man offered with confusion.
"Yeah, well maybe, both times Electro found you and did something to Flash's powers and that's why we all exploded! There's already one speedster stuck in the generator, you being here is probably the whole reason for this mess!" Booster yelled back.
"What? What do you mean there's already a speedst—" Flash replied before being cut out.
"Ugh, nothing, sorry, I'm just getting… confused or something. Please just stay here."
"Umm… not to interrupt and waste more time, Booster, but Condiment King was in the canteen, right?"
"Yeah, but he had nothing to do with this, ignore him." Booster said with agitation.
"Kinda hard since he must've heard your yelling, he's running right at us."
Everyone peered through the windows on the canteen doors and saw as Buddy Standler was charging at them in a goofy run from the other end of the canteen He suddelny caught his leg on the side of a chair leg and tripped up, accidentally headbutting a table with impressive force as he did so, twirling a bit as he fell before he landing flat on his face, completely unconscious. A second later the sudden impact clearly activated a delayed explosion on all the grenades as they burst out from under him in a spray of multicoloured sauces.
Everyone winced as they watched, both the concussion he gave himself, as well as the concussive force that came out of his grenades which were clearly powerful enough to make his body shift with the impact.
"Oooh. That's gonna hurt in the morning." Spider-Man said.
"We should still cuff him so he can't try to rob anyone when he wakes." Nightwing.
"I'm on it." Spider-Man said as strolled into the canteen towards Condiment King, careful not to touch the sauce, flipped him onto his back and sprayed him with a healthy dose of webbing and strolled back out.
"Heh… I can't believe he just knocked himself out like that… Hehe…" Nightwing said, trying to hold in his laughter.
There was a pause. Spider-Man felt his lip twitch, and everyone looked around at each other's pained expressions as they desperately tried to control their laughter, if one of them lost their composure everyone knew they'd all lose it. Everyone except Booster who looke unimpressed at rather annoyed.
"Uhumm... Sp-pider-Man, you got a bit of mustard on your arm" Black Canary said with a beet red face as she tried to remain professional despite the giggles trying to burst out of her.
Suddenly Booster felt his lip twitch, "Heh. Hehehe. Haha. HahahahahahhAAAAHAHAHHHH!"
Booster, whose face was as serious as a Royal Guard's suddenly burst into a fit of laughter at the ridiculous situation, leaning onto the wall with one hand to steady himself as he wiped a tear from his eye.
That did it. Suddenly the whole group began bursting into a fit of giggles, "Seriously, I can't believe that Batman fought that guy!" Canary called in between wheezes and tears.
"What? The Batman had to fight Captain Ketchup over there?" Spider-Man called out with laughter as he wiped the mustard off his arm.
"Captain Ketchup!" Flash repeated as he doubled over with hysterical laughter.
"I mean what did he think he would achieve? He robs people using condiments!" Nightwing screamed with a red face between giggles so hard his chest started to ache.
"HAHAHA! Stop! Stop! I'm gonna' pee!" Canary cried as she desperately wiped the tears from her eyes.
"Seriously? Batman? Oh, oh! Did I ever tell ya' about Paste Pot Pete?" Spider-Man said as he felt the giggles subside enough for him to speak, "It was this guy who Heh. Hah! Haha! BWHAHAHAHAAA!"
He couldn't even finish the sentence as everyone immediately began to lose it again as Peter cackled at the memory.
"PASTE POT PETE!? AHAHAHAAA" Nightwing cried as he lost all balance and fell back onto the wall and slid down it into a sitting position, howling.
"HAHA! I swear! The moment he told me his name I just lost it!"
"Hahahaaa! Why are villains so ridiculous?! One of my main villains is a guy who throws boomerangs for Pete's sake!" Flash replied.
"Paste Pot 'Pete's'?! HEHEE!" Nightwing called from the floor, still reeling from the reveal.
"Hehahe! No! No! We have one those back home too! Like what the hell do you think is gonna' happen? One time he threw a boomerang past me hoping it would come back and hit me in the back of the head Heha!" Spider-Man said, continuing through chuckles, "And get this, he forgot we were inside a closed space! I had a door behind me! So, I just turned around and closed it! And it just hit. The. Door! I still remember the 'Thunk' it made! Hahaha!"
"Heheeehee! Not even Captain Boomerang is that stupid!" Flash called back as the chuckles still fell out.
"Wow! my guy just goes by Boomerang, can't even be a Captain! Like where's your sense of pride, man? What's next, a guy with a gun just calls himself 'Gun'?"
"Stop! Stop! Seriously I can't take it!" Canary called as she physically had to stop herself from peeing.
"Hehehheee… Ah. Oh, oooh, I needed that… Heh." Booster said as he began to compose himself a fraction as everyone let out little bursts of inconsistent giggles, "You know what, if we don't make it this time, just know this, might be worth it…"
Canary breathed out a few more chuckles before approaching Booster with a smile, "Heh. Glad you're back to yourself… We'll make it this time, Booster. Cool heads, yeah?"
"Yeah. Hehe. Let's go, come on."
A few more little fits of chuckles followed them down the hall as they continued swapping stories of ridiculous villain encounters, they had in the past. Until they reached the basement where the generator was housed.
It was a large open space, so big it reminded Peter immediately of the basement in Fisk Tower, a wide-open space with a large device at the far end, multiple gangways and platforms leading to large display platform where a small, pointed, egg shaped device was spinning on top of a what looked to be a charging dock, multiple cables extending out from it connecting to series of monitors and a larger more traditional looking generator.
There was figure hunched over a keyboard at the monitors, desperately clacking away at the keys as he muttered expletives to himself in frustration.
"The 'Janitor' I presume?" Nightwing asked as he turned to Spider-Man.
"That's no Janitor." Spider-Man said as he immediately swung up onto the platform leaving the others behind, except Booster and Skeets who were flying after him.
"Agh!" Flash cried as he immediately began thrashing violently and crying in pain, sparks of yellow lighting peppering his body.
Nightwing and Canary rushed to his side, "Flash!?" They both yelled.
"What's wrong?" Canary asked.
"My p-powers… It-it's like their in overload! The g-enerat-or, l-look what's powering it! Gotta' gg-et upp- there!" He pointed to the generator where Spider-Man and Booster were landing, unable to hear his anguish or Nightwing and Canary's yells over the loud whirring thrum of the rest of the room.
"Hey Vultur-eeno! What's crack-a-lacking?" he quipped as he landed nearly yelling over the generator.
"Did you just say crack-a-lacking?! Man, you 21st century types speak weird!" Booster questioned as soon as he landed next to him, covering his ears from the noise.
"I'm having a slow day quip wise; I think Wonder Woman knocked most of em' out of me if I'm honest!" He replied as he also covered his ears slightly, his superior hearing causing the generator to batter his eardrums, "Jeez this thing is loud! Vulture! Toomes!"
Adrian Toomes jumped in response to the sudden appearance of the two heroes next to him, not hearing them clearly over the noise, "Wah! Spider-Man! What's with the new costu—Doesn't matter! I cannot believe I'm saying this, but thank god, you're here! Where's the Flash!?"
"Woah! Straight to the point, huh!? Nice to see you, too! You're scaring me Toomes-y why the hell would you be glad to see me!?"
Suddenly a flicker of static shot across all the monitors, a giant blue electrified face filled them all and spoke at once, "sPiDDE—Rrr—MmmmAn… H—HelLLp—P!"
"Woah! Electro?! What the hell happened to him, and, again why'd you need me!?"
"Because you were the one closest to the collider when it blew up! Electro was shot here a week ago and he's stuck, none of the others had enough antimatter from our reality to tether him to this one! He's stuck in the generator in a state of pure energy because of it!" He pointed to the small, spinning device in the dock behind them.
"Really? Are you sure the math adds up on that!? Why can't you just use your own!? I mean, I can't fully remember, but Martian Manhunter told me you were also in the basement. Shouldn't your—!?"
"Could you not be an impertinent brat for one second! Listen! Don't you think I've tried?! We all tried! All six of us have tried!
"And the others just left you here?! Where's the welcoming party?! The Sinister Six reunion?!"
"Shut up, this is bigger than revenge, Spider! Why do you think I've been cleaning toilets here all week?! So, I can get Electro out! But he's absorbed too much now, we need to get him out of there! If he goes critical the blast radius will destroy the whole planet!"
"Woah! The whole world? I thought it was just S.T.A.R. Labs that'd be caught in the blast, maybe a couple blocks at most." Booster said mostly to himself, but he yelled loud enough for the others to hear.
"Okay! Stay calm, Vulture! Tell me what to do!"
"I don't know! Electro told me he needs you and The Flash!"
Peter turned behind to see Flash being carried over the shoulder by Nightwing and Canary as he spasmed in super speed, turning intangible at random intervals and causing the other two to constantly try and catch him as they were being burnt and singed by the jolts of yellow lightning flying out from his body.
"Okay! I'll get him up here!" Spider-Man yelled before he suddenly clutched his head and fell to his knees as once again his Spider-Sense screamed at him, there was no calm before the storm this time, they were too close to the generator. Instead, he just felt wave after wave of violent warning bouncing around his skull relentlessly.
The screen started flashing red as a giant, blaring sign read, 'Warning! Critical overload!'
"No! You were too late!" Vulture screamed with rage at Spider-Man.
"Are you kidding me?! Again!? But we were quicker this time? I could swear! I hope you rot in hell Condiment King! So not worth it!" Booster cried in frustration.
A violent 'Boom!' burst out from the egg-shaped device as the Basement began crumbling around them, or it least it would have been around them if all of them weren't immediately fried by the blast. Except Flash who was fried from within at the other end of the Basement, the blast of his body instantaneously disintegrating both Nightwing and Black Canary before they even knew.
Then there was a light. Ripples of electricity began ripping apart the building, everything and everyone. Silas and Sarah, Anne/Clayface, all the other staff, everyone would've yelled. The people in the streets would have yelled. No one had time. They were disintegrated by a bright blue wave of electricity. Then the world followed.
In a fraction of a microsecond, J'onn J'onzz saw as the Earth below the viewing platform of the watchtower was completely disintegrated in bright blue flash. He had seen it happen twice before, then he was deleted and reset, having no memory of what he saw.
Gotham City
S.T.A.R. Labs
16:41 (and 59 Seconds if you want to be specific)
As soon as Booster regained his senses, he yelled, louder this time, "Fuck!" then he dropped to his knees and grabbed his head in frustration, "The whole world…? Oh fuck! This is bad! So bad!"
"Booster what the he—"
"Skeets! Diagnostics, now! Explain everything! I gotta' go! Groundhog Day!" He shouted as he jumped to his feet in a second and flew past everyone as they stood there, flabbergasted.
"What?!" Canary cried after him in aggravation, "Booster?!"
"Groundhog Day!" He yelled behind him, not bothering to look back as he made a beeline for the generator.
"Flash," Canary sighed with frustration, "Go after him, find out what hell he is up to!"
"On it, back in Fla—"
"Don't say it, I am not in the mood."
Flash just smirked knowingly and saluted before zipping off after Booster.
"I'm going to get a sitrep from Batman, find out why the hell Booster is even here."
"I'd advise against that Black Canary." Skeets replied.
"Yeah? Well, advise against my ass!" She grumbled.
"I could never advise against that ass…" Sarah muttered to herself as she felt a warm flush run over her, before she turned to Spider-Man embarrassedly, who immediately whipped his confused head away from her to save her more mortification at letting her mouth move before her brain.
Canary didn't notice and instead, as she exited once again, she reverted back to her original position.
"Am I seeing things, or did Black Canary just teleport?" Spider-Man asked the group.
"Skeets, what is going on?" She sighed defeatedly.
The events repeated much like they had the two previous times, however without Booster present to correct him, Skeets explained everything, including details about Wally West that Booster would rather keep under wraps.
Meanwhile, several hundred metres away, Flash caught up to Booster and called out, "Groundhog Day? Are we in a time loo—Wah!" His speed suddenly left him, and he fell over and tumbled several feet before sliding to a stop on his back. Painfully.
Booster just rolled his eyes and turned back on himself landing next to Flash, helping him to his feet, "Yeah. You got that just from that?"
"Yeah… Ow. Thanks. I mean why else would a time traveller show up, yell 'Fuck!' and then just fly off shouting 'Groundhog Day'? I may not be Batman, but it doesn't take a detective to connect those dots."
"Good point. By the way, your powers don't work."
"I figured, thanks. So, what's happening?"
"Well, I was gonna' go straight to the generator and get Skeets to lead the rest of you there, but you falling on your ass reminded me of something Canary kept saying about leaving civilians in danger, so I gotta' make some quick stops. Like, Real quick. I've not been counting the minutes, but I think the loops are getting shorter each time!" He immediately turned away from the hall he was in and began flying off back in the direction of the labs he past.
"Hey, wait, where're you going?"
"To save some civilians!" Booster called as he flew out of sight. 'This time! This time we'll stop it; I know what to do now!'
Flash let out a heavy sigh and ran after him, at a normal, boring, human pace, "Been a while since I ran like this, this is so dull." He muttered to himself.
In the labs, Silas was losing his patience as he heard the constant questions being thrown his way by one of the lab techs from his team, "I mean, why would Green Lantern just yell 'Groundhog Day' and fly past us, is that who the Justice League sent? Cause if so, I am not impressed. And was that The Flash running after him?"
"Do I look like I know, Debbie? I was simply standing here, same as you!" Silas replied, barely holding in his frustration.
Suddenly, 'Green Lantern' flew back into the labs, and into the small side office where Warner and Anne were sitting. They watched with curiosity, which quickly turned to horror as they saw Warner stand up and offer a handshake at the approaching hero, only to be immediately smacked across the face by a mean right hook.
Inside the small office Count Vertigo span on his heel as he was knocked immediately unconscious, his glasses flying of his face and Booster tore the wig from his head as he fell. Booster immediately rummaged through Vertigo's jacket and found the control device.
"Do whatever the hell you want… and pay taxes or whatever other stupid shit you do in this era. I don't care!" Booster said to Anne before he crushed the control device in his hand.
He then promptly flew off once more. All the staff watched him with fear and confusion as he called out, "You'll thank me later! Name's Booster Gold, not Green Lantern! Remember it, I'm gonna' save the word!"
And then he was gone again. Anne just turned to the rest of the staff who were staring at her from outside the side office, she just giggled uncomfortably and waved, not knowing how to improvise her way out of this one. For once in Clayface's life, he truly had no idea what his character would do next.
Flash watched as Booster flew past him again, calling, "This way! Canteen next!"
Once again Flash let out a heavy breath and turned on his heel and ran back the way he came, "I just came from that way! Wow, this is so tiring without powers… Am I that out of shape?"
After a few moments, Flash finally made it to the doors of the canteen and saw as Booster Gold exited, covered in what seemed to be ketchup and mustard, mumbling complaints to himself, "I need to find out who this guys parents are so I can make sure they never meet…"
Flash peeked in and saw a strange looking man in black spandex lying unconscious, face on the ground, ass in the air, surrounded by sauce stains.
"Do I even want to know?" Flash asked.
"Not even I want to know… I think I've just gained a nemesis and it's fucking Condiment King. Come on, to the generator!" He flew off once more.
Flash sighed and began sprint after him, "Oh god, am I getting a side stitch? Wow… that's new."

S.T.A.R. Labs - Main Labs
Meanwhile the rest of the team, besides Flash, entered the labs. They felt all the eyes of the staff, meet them as they were muttering to themselves in hushed and worried tones.
Canary smiled sheepishly as she spoke, "Eheh, hi, sorry, did any of you happen to see a…?"
Everyone pointed down the hallway that Booster Gold flew down moments earlier.
"Great… thanks, and he didn't err…?"
They all turned and pointed at 'Warner' who was pulling himself to his feet, groggily, "Thanks, Spider-Man?"
"I got ya'." Spider-Man said as he swung himself over to the office.
He entered and saw Vertigo was on his feet, looking at him confused and deliriously.
"Sorry." Spider-Man said as he webbed Vertigo's entire body, cocooning him into a mummy-like figure with his arms fixed to his sides and his legs fastened together.
Vertigo's face was still uncovered, and his face flushed red with rage as hatred filled his eyes, "Seriously, I really am sorry." He webbed Vertigo's mouth before he could say anything and then softly placed his index finger on the man's forehead, gently pushing him over.
Vertigo fell to the floor and began thrashing against the webbing and screaming muffled sentences that Peter thought were probably rather offensive in whatever language they were being said in, he turned and saw a confused woman sitting on the sofa, apparently a villain called Clayface.
"Umm… Turn yourself in after all this?" he said with a shrug, before walking back out of the door.
Anne, once again, had no idea what to say.
Peter paused as he felt all eyes on him, a mixture of enraged, confused and concerned faces looking at him as they muttered to each other under their breaths, in a moment of panic, he pointed to the writhing villain in the office behind and said, in a pretty accurate Harrison Ford impression, "No ticket…"
A snort came from Nightwing across the room as he stood next to Canary, "Sorry…" He replied as he tried to recompose himself in response to her wide-eyed look of bewilderment.
Dr Stone looked at Nightwing for a moment before staring at Black Canary with a severe expression.
"I imagine this must seem pretty concerning without context…" She replied with a mildly embarrassed look.
"Care to share some of that context?" Silas replied with a blunt tone.
"Gladly… Later. We're on the clock."
"Which is pretty ironic since the clocks aren't moving." Skeets offered.
"Not helping, Skeets…"
"Don't worry, you guys go, I'll try and explain it, best I can, Black Canary." Sarah said.
"Thanks, Skeets, take us to Booster!"

S.T.A.R. Labs - Basement
Further towards the basement, Flash had told Booster to go on without him and that he'd catch up, an odd sentiment to offer to someone else in Barry's mind. Nevertheless, Booster arrived back on the platform next to Vulture moments later.
"Hey Baldy!" He shouted.
Adrian Toomes jumped in response to the sudden appearance of the hero next to him, not hearing him land next to him over the noise, "Wah! Who in the hells are you!?"
Reflexively Toomes activated his wings, and they sprouted out of the small pack on his back, about an inch thick and half foot in square inch size, subtle enough to hide under his uniform, it was an upgrade of his own design courtesy of LexCorp funding. Off the books of course.
Hundreds of green, razor-sharp feathers folded themselves out from along the arches of the metallic wing bones, the display tore apart the custodial uniform he was wearing and left him dressed only in a black and green body suit.
"Seriously!? You want to fight now?! It's Vulture, right?! I'm with the Justice League! I'm not here for a fight! I'm here to help you shut down the generator!"
The wings retracted into the pack and Toomes scowled as he turned back to the monitor and carried on frantically typing away, desperately trying to override the continual growth of power.
"You can't! The Justice League was supposed to send Flash and Spider-Man! They're the only ones who can stop this!"
"Yeah, I know! You need Spider-Man's residual interdimensional antimatter to get Electro out! Skeets says they're on the way! Do you know why you need the Flash!?" Booster said as he went to the other keyboard and immediately began trying to run several programs to divert the power to, hoping to buy more time.
Booster had already began thinking on why Flash was needed to free Electro, one immediate connection made itself prevalent in his mind, 'Wally West…' he brushed the thought aside.
"No! That's just what Electro told me! How do you know all of this! And what are doing over there?!" Vulture screamed in desperation, hoping the stranger wouldn't exacerbate the situation further.
"No time to explain! I just know!" Booster replied, "And I'm rerouting power to every appliance and electrical device still plugged in! We need more time before Flash and Spider-Man can get here!"
"Don't you think I've tried that!? You can't do it remotely!" Vulture yelled.
"You can if you're from the Twenty-Fifth Century and there's a unique EMP running through the building!" Booster replied as he aimed his gauntlet at the monitor and fired out a tiny golden device which immediately embedded itself into the screen and ran Boosters program, searching for any electrical appliances throughout the whole building connected to the generator.
The noise in the basement softened a bit as the small egg shaped slowed its spinning a fraction, "It worked! Somewhat… you bought us some time I think!" Vulture called in surprise.
All the appliances turned on at max power, not exceeding their wattage so they wouldn't blow up and send out lose sparks, nonetheless all the staff began to panic as all the lights brightened, computer screens began displaying random programs at full brightness, TV screens began flashing in bright lights, robotics equipment and experimental devices began whirring frantically as they all turned on simultaneously.
Silas who was in the middle of telling everyone they were unable to leave saw the panic and shouted, "Everyone, remain calm. Fire procedures, get as far away from the labs as possible! Remember stay in the building!"
Everyone hurriedly complied.
Finally, Spider-Man, Nightwing and Black Canary caught up to Flash as he was running after Booster. Spider-Man in the lead, other than Skeets, as he swung effortlessly through the halls, slowing himself enough so the others could follow.
"Seriously? I had a head start!" Flash yelled in frustration.
"Flash? Why are you running so slow?" Spider-Man called down, "Aren't you supposed to be the fastest man alive?"
"Don't rub it in. I'm humiliated enough as it is. My powers don't work! You guys know what's happening?" Flash replied.
"Kinda', we got the bullet point version, I think!" Canary replied as she caught up to Flash and began running alongside him.
"Time loop?" Flash said, wanting confirmation.
"Time loop. This little robot here filled us in. Apparently, we're 'needed' in the basement, or the world goes boom." Spider-Man replied.
"Well, that's just typical. Give me the deets' as we go, Skeets?"
"I'll try my best Flash!" Skeets replied.
They arrived in the basement and immediately Flash began thrashing in pain as his body spasmed at super speed.
"Get up there with him!" Nightwing yelled to Spider-Man against the noise.
Spider-Man nodded and slung Flash's arm around his shoulder as he picked him up, constantly shifting his arm around Flash's waist as he kept inadvertently turning intangible. This paired with the many burns and sparks of static peppering his side from Flash's lightning made it a difficult swing, even if it was only a few hundred feet.
Nevertheless, they made it, and landed on the platform, "Booster Gold, right?!" he called as he landed Flash's shuddering in his arms growing more intense as he got closer to that generator.
"Spider-Man! What's with the new costu—Doesn't matter! Is that the Flash?!" Vulture yelled as his adversary arrived, much to his relief, a foreign idea for him.
"Yeah! Straight to the point, huh, Toomes-y!? Nice to see you, too! What do you need!?"
"We need your-!"
"No time for the details! Just point him what to do!" Booster yelled as he kept trying to run different programs and appliances remotely to divert power, all while attempting new subroutines to reverse the spin of the egg-shaped device hoping it would bring down the power, none were working.
Spider-Man turned to Booster Gold, a stranger more or less, still struggling to hold Flash upright.
"He's right! No time for the usual unpleasantries I'm afraid! Unfortunately, I don't know what you have to do! Electro's not explained he just keeps repeat—"
Suddenly a flicker of static shot across all the monitors, a giant blue electrified face filled them all and spoke at once, "sPiDDE—Rrr—MmmmAn… H—HelLLp—P!"
"That!"
"fLaAsHH… SpIIderR-MaaanN… C-CchrrYYsaLIss…"
"Woah! Electro?! What the hell happened to you, Max?! What does 'chrysalis' mean?"
Suddenly booster turned to the spinning power source of the projector and began scanning it, "Chrysalis! That's what Skeets overheard! Now I understand! That's an MFD! It'll will destroy the world if Electro loses control, and it goes chrysalis!"
Spider-Man turned to the chrysalis with Flash still writhing and groaning in his arms, "That small spinning thing?! That'll destroy the world?!" he was so confused right now, trying desperately to fill the gaps of information in his brain.
"That tracks! That thing is one of The Reach's Magnetic Field Disruptors! They were built to destroy a planet's magnetic field! If S.T.A.R. Labs are using this to power their generator, and it goes critical, there's no stating the range of the blast, it would destroy everything!" Nightwing called as he grappled up to the position with Canary following close behind, her eyes never leaving Flash as soon as she landed.
"The Reach?! Magnetic Field Disruptor?! Context! Please!" Spider-Man yelled.
"That was the context!" Nightwing replied.
"So, how do we stop it?! Flash?!" Spider-Man yelled before Flash fell through his arms and began thrashing on the floor.
Images and memories he never had filled Flash's head in a violent pulse of unfathomable speed, "AGH! Ah! I-I know what to do!" he screamed as clarity was forcefully thrust into his mind, one single goal made itself clear amongst all the other white noise, "Get m-me to it! Both of… Agh— u-ss!"
Spider-Man didn't question it, he picked up Flash and started gingerly walking towards the MFD, dropping him every now and then as he struggled to control his speed and kept turning intangible.
Three steps were left. Peter picked Flash up once more, he stepped forward. Two steps left, he dropped the Flash. He picked him up and stepped forward. One step. He dropped Flash again, but this time it was not because of Flash, it was because of him. He Spider-Sense screamed at him.
The MFD went Chrysalis. A violent 'Boom!' burst out from the MFD as the Basement began crumbling around where the dust particles of people once stood.
He had seen it happen thrice before, then he was deleted and reset, having no memory of what he saw.
Gotham City
S.T.A.R. Labs
16:41 (and 59 Seconds if you want to be specific)
"Are you fucking kidding me?! Again! We were so close!" Booster Gold screamed with a red face.
"Boost-!"
"No time! Skeets, diagnostics, explain! Set up a new network of comms and explain to everyone!" He immediately began flying off, grabbing Spider-Man and Flash by their arms and shooting down the halls at the speed of a bullet yelling, "Groundhog Day!"
He didn't get far though. On the second or so curve he felt a foot hit his side and he was knocked into a wall dropping both Flash and Spider-Man.
Spider-Man did a twist in the air and managed to land on his feet, using the momentum from his kick to push him self into a sideways somersault, he saw as Flash bounced on the ground for a bit before immediately rolling back onto his feet and rushing at the strange golden dressed man who abducted them in a yellow and red blur.
"Explain yourself Booster—Agh!" Flash stated as he picked Booster up from the ground and shoved him into the wall before he suddenly dropped him and fell to his knees as lightning danced around his body.
"What did you do to him!?" Spider-Man yelled as he rushed forward as threw a punch at the man.
Booster's eyes widened as he ducked just in time and dove out of the path of the fist which dented the wall behind him, "Wait! Groundhog day! Flash's powers don't work!"
"Buddy, I don't know how people talk where you're from, but that is not an acceptable explanation!" He said as he shot a flurry of webs at the man and covered his whole body in a sheet of webs, sticking him to the ground.
"Wait! Spider-Man, listen to Skeets!" Flash called as he began to piece together the explanation he was hearing from the robot through his comms.
"Who the hell is Skee—?"
"Mphh! Mhyph— Mphm- Mhrophbot!" Booster called out in a muffled cry from the floor.
"Booster, did you say Groundhog Day?" Flash said.
"Ymephs!" He rolled his eyes and activated his gauntlets, destroying all the webbing around him as he stood up and wiped the rogue strands of his body, "Yes! We're in a loop, I need to get you two to the basement."
"I'm not buying it. Are you buying this? Who is this clown anyway?"
"Booster Gold!" Booster yelled before sighing, "No time for introductions, we've been through it before, trust me…"
"I-I think he's right Spider-Man, are you listening to this?" Flash said.
Spider-Man paused and started to actually listen to the robotic voice in his ear, it did corroborate the story, "Okay, but its his robot, it might be part of the act."
"Doubt it, Booster's part of the League, and I've never seen him this serious before… This is big?" Flash asked.
"Huge. Major. End of the world type deal…" booster replied.
"Okay, take us where we need to go." Flash responded.
"Seriously, just like that?" There are not enough words to justify the confusion in Spider-Man's voice.
After a couple more seconds of confused back and forth between Booster, Spider-Man and Flash, they were in the air again, Booster 'arm-pitting' Spider-Man who was doing the same to the Flash, "This is so humiliating…" Flash stated as they flew past all the very confused staff, including his acquaintance, Silas Stone.
"Wait here." Booster said as he placed them on the ground just round the corner from the labs before flying back on himself.
They peered round the corner and watched as Booster flew past all the staff, entered a side office and punched someone in the face before stealing a device from his jacket, saying something to the young woman in the room, and crushing the device.
"Are you sure that we should trust this guy? That seems so unnecessary." Spider-Man asked as they watched.
"If Skeets is telling the truth about Count Vertigo, then that was entirely necessary…" Flash simply replied, his voice betraying a tiny hint of doubt in case he was wrong.
Booster then returned, picked them both up again and dropped them outside the canteen.
Buddy Standler was cackling to himself as he stirred the sauces in the pots in front of him, "Hahaha, the Justice League have come for me, have they? Then they will be the first to taste my wrath— Huh?" he turned as the kitchen doors swung open, "Who are yo—?!" he was sent unconscious by a punch to the face from Booster Gold.
They arrived at the basement and Booster felt hopeful in spite of the shortening time span, this was the quickest they had ever reached their target. Once again Flash started writhing in pain as his powers went wild.
"Flash?! What's happening to him?" Spider-Man yelled.
"We're too close to the source of the EMP! It makes his powers go into overdrive! Get over there, I got him!" Booster replied as he pointed to the generator platform.
Suddenly a blue force field encased Flash's body as his movements crawled, not to a stop, but to a snail's pace.
Spider-Man turned to Booster and saw the blue glow of his gauntlets and immediately connected the dots, "What are you doing to him?!"
"Stasis! It's supposed to freeze him completely, but he's moving too fast! But he'll be easier to move him like this! I'll take him over! Go to the platform, now!"

S.T.A.R. Labs – Main Labs
As soon as Nightwing, Black Canary, Sarah and Skeets arrived in the main labs, they were met with a harsh glare from Silas Stone.
"Black Canary, Nightwing! Care to explain why I've just seen Green Lantern fly past carrying Red Hood and Flash before turning around and assaulting a member of staff!? This is one of the most unprofessio—"
Black Canary looked over to the side office where Count Vertigo, still dressed as an intern, was being awoken and helped back to his feet by a number of the staff as another, younger, female intern was trying their best to stop them, her back rippling in brownish, clay-like waves as they were becoming more distressed.
She nodded to Nightwing who nodded back and began running to the scene, "Umm… Dr Stone, I can explain, I imagine—" she began trying to say.
"Oh, you'll explain alright! I have half a mind to call the Justice League myself and—" Silas continued.
"Silas! Please calm down… You go on, Black Canary, I'll try and explain as best I can." Sarag said.
Meanwhile Nightwing entered the side office and began calmly shuffling the rest of the people out, including Anne who he simply told to stand down and stay with the others before he too approached Count Vertigo.
Count Vertigo gained some sense back as he saw Nightwing and his face flushed red with rage a confusion for a second before he felt another punch land on his face, he was rendered unconscious yet again. Eliciting many cries of confusion and horror from the rest of the staff as they watched on in shock.
Nightwing caught Vertigo as he spun on his heel and held him up as he cuffed him before he dropped him unceremoniously. He turned to the stunned faces and shrugged uncomfortably before saying, "Heh. No ticket…"
They did not respond well, and he ignored the whisperings and dirty looks as he walked past them back to a very apologetic Black Canary and a very angry looking Silas Stone.
Black Canary looked at Silas sheepishly for a moment before shrugging and looking at Nightwing who also shrugged before they both started running down the halls Skeets flying beside them.
"No ticket? Seriously?!" She said in disbelief as they ran.
"I know! Sorry! It just felt like the right thing to say!" He replied, thinking to himself as he ran, 'Man, Spider-Man would've loved that joke.'
Silas watched them run away in stunned silence before his shock turned to mild anger and he turned to Sarah who went flush for moment before sighing, "I promise, there is an explanation for all this. Just give me a moment to figure out how the hell I'm gonna' put it."
Meanwhile
S.T.A.R. Labs – Basement
Spider-Man, Flash, Booster Gold and Vulture all stood on the generator platform, having already had a very brief yell at each other about what to do, interrupted by Electro's ethereal static voice.
Flash and Spider-Man were standing at opposite sides of the MFD, Flash's powers seeming to stabilise enough for him to stay on his feet as the yellow lightning from his body appeared as if they were being sucked into the spinning device. Although his His body seemed calm, his head whipped about at super speed, making it a blur of red and the hue of his skin.
"And you're sure this is what we need to do?!" Spider-Man yelled with extreme worry.
"Not at all!" Booster replied, "But look on the bright side! If you die, we'll try again!"
"But you said the loop gets shorte—"
"I know! But you don't have to worry about that!" He called back desperately trying to calm Spider-Man, masking his own panic, 'Please work. Please work. Please work.' Being the constant thought running through his head.
"I-i-t-t-t'l-ll w-w-w-oo-o-r-rr-kk-k!" Flash said, "I-I s-ss-ee nn-o-ww-w!"
"You saying that while you look like you're going through an exorcism is not as reassuring as you think it is!" Spider-Man replied before sighing to himself, "Okay! Fine! Ready?"
"R-r-rea-ad-d-y!" Flash responded.
"HhhUurRyyY!" Electro's voice called from the monitors.
"On three! One!" Spider-Man called.
"T-t-wwo-oo!" Flash replied.
"One!"
They both jammed their hands into the bubble of static surrounding the MFD and tried their best to hold on to the device as it suddenly stopped spinning and began violently shuddering and vibrating in their hands.
They both started screaming in agony as Flash's arms were sparking with yellow electricity and Spider-Mans began throwing out bursts of black and white negative energy. Both of them felt an intense burning within them as their minds and bodies were overwhelmed with surges of experiences from other realities.
Peter saw realities beyond either of the multiverses he called home, webs of creation outside other webs, worlds of gods, tyrants and fools. The clearest images showed him worlds of peaceful beings with televisions in their stomachs, violent hordes of hell being cut down by a green armoured warrior armed with a shotgun and chainsaw, a sad lonely writer from a mundane reality typing fanfiction on their computer.
He didn't linger on his thoughts on the many worlds he was seeing, instead he only worried he would not survive this, that his mind wouldn't take it just like it couldn't when he was first sent to this reality. But Other was determined to protect Peter as they took on the blunt of the blow, making sure to protect Peter's mind by absorbing 99 percent of the information that was being downloaded directly into his mind. Showing him only a fraction.
Barry instead only saw visions of one multiverse, his own. He saw different versions of himself and his allies, and he saw only one version of the gods old and new that sat outside it.
He stared right into the face of Darkseid who stared back at him with a sick smile of fascination. He saw Lucifer sat on his throne in hell looking dejected, bored, tired, Lucifer stared back at him with an unimpressed glare. Then he saw Dream, Death and all the rest of the Endless, Destiny staring at him with rage as the book in his hands began opening and closing rapidly before opening once more as the pages began turning backwards and forwards rapidly. And finally, he looked into the eyes of the naked blue man sat alone on mars and saw the calamity he created, the man too, looked at him with a neutral expression.
Then his mind was thrown back into a singular reality, the one designated Prime, his home. But he saw it multiple times. The same but different, timelines overlapping one another as he saw all the other loops that Booster had experienced.
Then he saw past the loop, into the past, the present, the reality that this reality once was. One without the titans, without Supergirl or Power Girl, one where Superboy looked different and many of the heroes were younger, while others were older. Relationships were different, politics were different, their enemies and allies were different, everything was different, but he remembered it as if he had lived it, and he realised, he had.
And he remembered the man he had forgotten, the boy that was his friend, his nephew, his partner, Kid Flash, "Wally." He simply said with disbelief.
"Yes! It's working!" Vulture said as he saw the monitors flicker as Electro hummed in a noise akin to someone being massaged.
"I'm glad you two are enjoying this, Vulture. Because I, definitely, am not." Peter called back as he tried to wrap his head around the battle he was currently watching between a bald hero dressed in yellow and a strange, symbiote looking, alien.
"Keep it up you two!" Booster called as he used the holographic display in his gauntlet to monitor the generator's stability.
"Easy for you to say!" Flash called, "Wally… How did I forget?"
"You're finally remembering!" Booster called.
"Booster, you knew, didn't you? You knew he was here!" Flash said as he still saw images of the other timeline over this one.
"Don't worry about that now, just try to keep hold of the MFD!" booster called as he saw the process was almost finished.
"Yesss! I can feel it! The power!"
"Well, that's not a concerning thing to say at all, Electro! Wait, is that Captain Picard? Golden Boy, why am I watching Star Trek?!" Spider-Man called to Booster as he was immediately distracted from Electro's worrying exclamation by a new vision of a world, one he recognised from tv.
"Stacked universe theory! Realities that are fiction in others still potentially exist outside of them, chances are in their reality, we all exist in comic books or something!" Booster replied as he remembered a conversation he once had with Ted about the topic.
"Like anyone would read those!" Flash called back.
"No, I think he's onto something, I think I'm watching a female version of Deadpool showing variant of myself some Spider-Man comics! Neat!" Peter called, deciding not to question it and just enjoy the ride as best he could amidst the agonising pain.
Suddenly in that reality, said girl turned to face Peter and said, "Woah, what are you doing here?! Did you just call me Deadpool?! Get out of here!" before reaching out to him as he saw a page turn in his mind and once again, he was sent somewhere else.
"Wow… That was trippy!" He called as he was sent to a random field of daisies…
Nightwing and Black Canary eventually landed on the platform and rushed over to Booster's side, "What's going on?" Canary immediately asked.
"They're saving the world…" Booster replied, not needing to yell anymore as the sound began to die down.
"Really? Cause it looks like their just holding an egg and shouting nonsense—Wait is that a Reach Magnetic Field Disruptor?" Nightwing responded, "Is that what S.T.A.R. Labs are using to power their facility? How could they be so reckless?"
Black Canary sighed, "Why do I get the feeling that Luthor buying S.T.A.R. Labs last year has something to do with this?"
Suddenly, the wave of static around the MFD began expanding and Spider-Man and Flash began screaming again, before it rapidly retreated into the MFD which suddenly stopped moving and silence fell over the basement as the power went out entirely, throwing the space into complete darkness for a moment before the actual generator turned on and the lights flickered to life again.
Spider-Man and Flash began breathing heavily as the pain and visions stopped, Flash looked up to Spider-Man, "Is that it? Did we, do it?"
"I-I don't know… Check the time." Booster replied hesitantly.
"It's four forty-two. That's it, right? The loop is over, but then what about Wally? Where is he?" Flash, said as he checked his watch remembering the other timelines.
"Wally?" Nightwing whispered to himself.
Booster ignored the asides as he focused on the fact he was free of his loop, "Forty-two?! Ahahahaaa! Yes! It's over, finally over!"
"Really, just like that? But that seems really anti-climactic… Besides, where's Electr—"
Suddenly the MFD began shaking violently before it exploded outward, not in a violent world destroy flash of light like the times before, but a small blast that destroyed the device from within as a wave of blue electricity burst outwards sending everyone flying back.
They crashed to the floor, into the sides and into the monitors behind and around them as all of them were flung about the platform. Vulture opening his wings to catch himself as he was thrown off the platform. But they all survived this time, Vulture looked as the heroes were groaning in pain and annoyance before his attention was stolen by sounds of static pops and hisses growing around him.
The wave carried through the whole building and shorted out the EMP and replaced it with a new one, once again the facility was plunged into darkness for a moment before all the power returned.
As the wave of static made its way through the building, everyone in S.T.A.R. Labs felt memories flooding their head as they experienced every version of the loop prior, confusion on everyone's faces as they began muttering to themselves in bewilderment.
Back in the labs, Spider-Man groaned as he stood back up on his feet, "Ugh… Everyone okay?" 'You okay, too, buddy?' He asked the Slimbiote who hummed exhaustedly in reply, 'Okay… thanks for looking out for me there, take a rest for a bit…' it murmured agreement in response then went quiet.
A series of verbal affirmations came from the other heroes, "Yeah, I think we're good. Skeets, what just happened?" Booster asked as he pulled himself up using the keyboard stand behind him.
"Well, unfortunately Booster, we're frozen in time again, the second wave and EMP shorted out your chronal system a second time. Howver I believe that the timelines have merged so everyone should remember what has happened up until now."
"You have got to be kidding me!" He said as he lifted his goggles and rubbed his eyes in frustration with one hand.
"Well look on the bright side, at least everyone can remember everything. In hindsight, it makes you look less insane than we first thought…" Nightwing offered as he also stood back up, brushing the dust and broken glass of himself.
"There's more…" Skeets continued, "I believe the loop will still be active as long as there is a second EMP, however you should return instead to this moment—"
"So, we reached a new save point?" Spider-Man asked.
"To put it Bluntly, yes…"
"Well, that's definitely something I guess, we gotta' just end this new EMP… besides, the threat is from the MFD is gone, right? Not like we're going to die anymore." Booster said.
"Well, that depends on you I guess. Speaking of which, it looks like Adrian Toomes has decided to forego our momentary alliance…" Skeets said as everyone turned where he was facing and saw as Vulture was flying there, looking at them with a sick grin as several spikes seperated from his suits and floated around him, aimed directly at them.
"Indeed, I have. Our truce has served it's purpose… Now it is time to finish you all, especially you, Spider-Man." Vulture replied.
"Ah! Come on, Vulture! Seriously? Don't tell you me you didn't enjoy the feeling of saving the world at least a little bit! Besides, how are you going to beat all six of us on your own? Even with your new suit, looks good by the way, you can barely beat just me!" Spider-Man called up to his enemy.
"There's only five of us…" Nightwing said.
"I was counting Skeets as well…" Spider-Man replied.
"Oh then, six of us… He has a point!" Nightwing called up to Vulture.
"It would appear you are forgetting something…" Vulture replied as the static pops around him began to coalesce into a singular point beside him.
Everyone watched in annoyance as sparks of blue electricity, began to strike a small area of the space before they merged and formed the shape of a man made of pure blue energy. Electro was reborn.
"Crap. I can't believe we forgot about him, literally the whole reason we came here… Plus like now we have six different memories of it…"
"That's a lot of different memories to keep track of to be fair." Nightwing replied.
"Nuh-uh. You guys don't get to complain! You haven't had to deal with all this from the start!" Booster Gold said.
"Boys! Focus! Supervillains…" Black Canary said.
"Guys, not to put a downer on the mood right before the big fight, but I think my powers are shot again…" Flash said.
"Also, don't want to throw out more complications," Nightwing said as he noticed something in the corner of the room, "But who the hell is that?" He finished as he pointed at the Yellow and Red dressed man with ginger hair lying unconscious on the floor.
Flash and Booster spoke at the same time as they saw him, "Wally!" the former spoke, "Wally West, Skeets we did it!" said the latter.
"You heroes done with your pow-wow, yet?" Electro spoke.
"Depends, how much time you willing to give us, Maxxie?" Spider-Man called back.
Suddenly Electro was gone from view before he reappeared in less than a fraction of a second in front of Spider-Man and grabbed him by the neck before he could even react to his Spider-Sense.
"Oh, you really shouldn't have called me that…" Electro said with a snarl of hatred.
Everyone else rushed to help Spider-Man only to be thrown backwards by another wave of static, knocking everyone down as they all grunted in pain and annoyance.
"Me and my big mouth, huh?" Spider-Man choked out.
"Don't stress it, I'll make sure I fry that off first… You have no idea the power and knowledge I've gained from being trapped in that thing. I cannot wait to show your friends… After I'm done with you obviously. Don't worry I promise to make theirs quick… I'd say the same for you, but that'd be a lie."
"Ch-charming…" Spider-Man threw a punch only for it to be stopped in its tracks by an invisible barrier around Electro's body. He threw another with his other hand, same again, he kicked forward, his legs were trapped just like his arms.
"Oh. So, I guess the new look is functional as well as fashion—AGH! AHHH AA—" Spider-Man's mocking was ended, and he began screaming in pain as Electro started pouring millions of volts through his body, burning straight through his insulated suit and charring the skin from his flesh.
No one else could speak, not even Vulture, instead they all just stared in horror as Spider-Man was fried from the inside out and turned into a charred husk of burnt flesh. Electro dropped his smoking corpse and turned to the others.
"HahahahahahAAAAA! I did it! He's finally gone! I almost can't believe it… Whew! What a rush… Now, what did I promise him?" He moved to eliminate the others.
Booster was last, wildly firing at Electro who had just shattered Skeets in front of him after he had fried all the others before they even had time to react. No shot hit, and only one thought crossed his mind before he was fried to ash like the others, one he didn't think he'd have, 'Shit… I really hope the loop still works…'
He would've screamed, he didn't have time. He was disintegrated in moments…
Author Notes:
And that's a wrap everybody! Thanks for reading my fic until the end...
That's a joke. Obviously it doesn't end there... Imagine though. What a prank that'd be.
Few things, I've not read the comic with Angel and Spidey in the savage lands, but the wiki says Vertigo defeated them with her power, which confused me cause everywhere else said Pete's immune to vertigo. It's an old comic though so might be before writes would've realised that as a side effect of his powers... Imma read it and get back to you, but for context, her powers didn't work on Pete from this reality... Call it a retcon maybe.
Next chapter is finale of the S.T.A.R. Attraction three parter and then normal shenanigans, well as normal as can be for a crossover fic.
Also again, big fic, real honker I imagine, still LOTS to come so hope your up for a big read... Sorry.
Anyway, next chapter will be out whenever as will the one shot I keep threatening everyone with, but I want them done soonish before the Xmas special...
Stay beautiful everyone,
Fumble :)
