Pairing: TFA Omega Supreme/Ultra Magnus
Rating: General
Details/Themes: War is Hell, comfort
The bunker of the Omega Sentinels was locked down tight. However, occasional blasts from above, regardless of which faction shot off, shook the ceiling enough to send some dust down. The bunker was two field's thick of metal so the infrastructure wasn't at all fazed by them. But there was one bot that wasn't so sure.
Omega Supreme, the first sentinel brought online, was no coward, but the sound of constant war made him frown and lean against the port he was assigned to. Most of his fellow sentinels had already been deployed for the day and were out there either guarding or fighting. Only he and Kappa Supreme were still in the home bay.
A stream of dust from another blast hit Omega's shoulder which he glanced up at where it fell with slight uncertainty. He could only imagine just what was going on up there and the Autobot lives that may have gotten taken in said attack.
"There's nothing to fear, Omega Supreme. Nothing has ever penetrated that ceiling since the bunker was first created," Ultra Magnus said, walking towards him on the catwalks of the bay.
Omega blinked and looked down sorrowfully, "It...is not the bunker I am concerned about, Commander, it is the lives above. I should be out there protecting them...right?"
The Magnus shook his head, "Your objective has nothing to do with the battle above, at least not at this time. You will protect, as you were programmed to do, but only when we need you to. Right now, you and Kappa Supreme are required to be re-energized."
Ultra was about to leave again when Omega suddenly spoke, "Will I ever see Cybertron at peace in my life cycle one day?"
That made Ultra pause to contemplate just what the sentinel was asking. In truth, he hadn't really planned on what to do with the remaining sentinels that survived after the Autobots won the war...if they won. The question seemed innocent enough but would he lie and say yes? Yes, to cover the fact like Omega was only made for war and nothing else?
Omega was then staring at him and Ultra could see in his optics that he was searching for an answer to woes he wasn't technically supposed to have. As heartless as Ultra was often forced to be with his Elite Guard and the many other Autobots he had at his whim, he found it difficult to be strict with such a bot whose entire purpose up to this moment was nothing but war and death, innocence be damned.
At some point during his thought process, Omega had leaned in close to look at his commanding officer with concern. It was barely a whisper yet the voice still boomed in comparison to a normal bot's. "You do not know, do you? You do not have to withhold the truth from me, Commander. I think I already know the answer to that."
Ultra Magnus placed his hammer down and approached Omega before setting servos on the sentinel's lower jaw to cradle his helm. "Omega Supreme, guardian sentinel, I built you for war. I wish I had the chance to make you and your peers under different circumstances but we must do what is necessary sometimes even at some unspeakable costs."
Kappa Supreme was listening in the background and Omega knew she understood just as much as he did how they both were nothing but living weapons. Some dread was present on his features but he knew he had to be strong as he was made to be to protect those like Ratchet and Ultra Magnus who took care of him.
"But just because you were made for one purpose doesn't mean you can't aspire to be more than what you were built to do," Ultra smiled. "I know the Council doesn't like the idea of bonding with those we are supposed to command but I know you and your peers will do great things. I cannot guarantee anything though beyond the realm of war, I hope you know this."
"I do," Omega said softly.
The Autobot leader sighed, "There will come a time when everything will end. You, the war, and I especially will witness one day it will be over for us. Don't know when or how, but it will eventually happen. In the meantime, all we can do is be the best we can be and enjoy the small moments that occur between the pain and suffering we must go through for the future of Cybertron."
The sentinel nodded at that. He seemed weary about the life he was given, but he knew it was to help his home survive. Maybe one day he would see the war end. He could only hope. His commander patted his chin in assurance before leaving and he stood back to his full height.
As Omega heard another muffled blast above, he spoke, "Until all are one."
Ultra Magnus gave melancholy expression at that. He gathered his hammer and didn't look back.
AN: Ultra Magnus' relationship with Sigma Supreme, the Elite Guard's ship Steelhaven, was never really touched on. So I figured he had to have a relationship with Sigma of some sort and he would know the other Sentinels would have developed some feelings, dread or otherwise. It would make sense that he would know how to comfort them since it's canon he actually helped design the Sentinels in the first place.
