Chapter 2: Spring Cleaning
[Location–Musutafu]
[Time–8:29pm]
Bardock, Toshinori and Izuku was heading to Izuku's apartment to take him home safely, but also for Bardock and Toshinori to talk with his mother.
"Are you sure you are okay walking home with me. You don't need to, I can get home safely." Izuku said, not wanting to take up his future mentor's time.
"That's not the reason why we are walking with you. I need to talk with you parents about your training, as you'll be spending most of your time training with me." Bardock said, as they reached Izuku's apartment block.
[Location–The Midoriya's Apartment]
[Time–8:32pm]
Inside the apartment, Inko Midoriya; Izuku's mother and sole parent, was in the kitchen making dinner for her and her son, while she was on the phone with her close friend, Mitsuki; Katsuki's mother.
"Hey Mitsuki, I saw the news a few hours ago and I wanted to ask if Katsuki got home safely." Inko said over the phone.
"Yeah, he is safe and sound. He seems more angry this time, maybe because he got embarrassed by the villain. Or maybe because your brave son trying to rescue him. What he did was so brave, you must be proud of him!" Mitsuki said, complimenting Izuku's bravery during the sludge villain attack.
"Yeah, I know, but I'm worried. He hasn't arrived home yet. He should've been here an hour ago. I don't know what to do." Inko said with sorrow in her voice, her sturring of the pot slowing to a hault.
"Hey! I'm sure he is fine. He is a tough boy, y'know that! Have faith in him Inko, I'm sure he is only running late because of some news reporters." Mitsuki consoled her, trying to calm Inko down.
"Yeah, I'm sure you're..." Inko was cut off when the door bell of her apartment rang.
She quickly ended the call with Mitsuki, saying Izuku might of arrived home. She turned the stove off and ran to the front door. She pressed her face up to the door and looked through the peephole, seeing Izuku on the other side. Inko smiles, ripping the door open and dashing to her son, tackling him to the ground and hugging him with all the joy and love she could guve at the moment in time.
"Oh, Izuku! You had me so worried! Why are you late? It should've taken you only and hour to get back home. What happened?" Inko asked many questions to Izuku, not noticing Bardock and Toshinori.
"I'm fine mum, really. I was just held up a bit, but thank to Mr. Bardock, I was perfectly safe." Izuku said, gestering to Bardock.
Inko looked behind Izuku's shoulder and saw both Bardock and Toshinori standing behind her son. She quickly recongnised Bardock as the man who saved her's and Mitsuki's sons, so she jumped to her feet, as she bowed, thanking him for his service.
"Please, you don't need to thank me. I did it because I wanted to. Plus, I made an agreement with your son before the attack, so I kind of needed to save his life." Bardock said.
"Agreement? What agreement?" Inko asked, looking over to Izuku who was picking himself up to his feet.
"It's a lot to explain, so can they come in so they can explain it all to you?" Izuku asked his mum, which she gratefully let Bardock and Toshinori into her home as honoured guests.
Inside, Bardock and Toshinori was sitting at the dinning table, where Inko was finishing up making dinner, apologising to her guests that she would have made more if she knew she were having guests over. Toshinori says it was no problem, as they have already had their fair share of dinner today.
("Speak for youself, I haven't eaten anything since this morning.") Bardock grumbling in his head, his stomach feeling like a deflated balloon.
"If you're alright with it, may I give you something to drink? It the least I can do for keeping my son safe." Inko askedz, but they both turned her down.
"No, you don't have to. We don't want to bother you too much. Plus we won't be here for long." Toshinori said, not wanting to bother Inko too much.
"Please, I won't mind. You two are my guests and a few minutes of extra work won't be too much for me, honest." Inko insisted, wanting to help them in any way.
"Alright, I'll just take a cup of tea please. No sugar. What do you want Bardock?" Toshinori asked Bardoxk for his choice of beverage.
"Water is fine with me." Bardock said, resting one of his arms over the seat's back.
After Inko had served up her's and Izuku's dinners, plus giving Bardock and Toshinori's their chosen drinks, she sat down and asks what they wanted to talk to her about.
"Simple answer is, I want you son to become my pupil and to train under me." Bardock saidz, already seeing the shocked look on Inko's face.
"W-what? Training? What kind of training?" Inko asks, her body trembling drom the shock.
"Battle training. When I learned your son was told he can never become a hero because he has no quirk, I had this feeling to help him become a great hero, to show those around him that he can become what he wants." Bardock said, Inko dropping her cup on the floor.
Izuku asks if his mum is okay, but all his mother could do was tremble on the spot, her mouth agap. Then she looked over to Izuku; still trembling, and asking if this all true. Everything Bardock was saying, as she couldn't believe it.
"Yes mother, it is true. Mr. Bardock believes he can make me one of the greatest heroes in the world." Izuku said, his confidence at its peak since he watch the video of All-Might's debut for the first time.
"B-b-but you don't have a quirk. How canyou become a great hero without a quirk?" Inko said, worried for her son's safety to become a hero without a quirk.
"I promise you ma'am. The training I will put Izuku through will give him the strength of a thousand men, the speed of lightning and the courage of a warrior. If he takes his training seriously, he can become as strong as I am." Bardock said, putting his trust in Inko.
Inko couldn't believe what she was hearing. Even though she wanted her son to follow his dreams, she saw it as a too dangerous journey, but now someone wanted to directly help her son in ways she couldn't. This feeling of both pain from all the held back emotions she had, but also the relief of finally releasing those emotion, she began to cry tears of happiness, as she covered her mouth with her hands.
"Mum, are you okay?!" Izuku stood up from his chair and went to console his mother.
"Mrs. Midoriya?! What's wrong?" Toshinori asks, reaching his hand out, but Inko stopped him by putting her hand out.
"N-n-no. I-It i-s-s fi-i-ne. I'm j-just gl-a-ad t-ha-at my I-zu-uku c-an fina-all-ly be-c-come wh-a-at he a-alw-ways w-w-ante-ed. Th-ha-ank y-y-ou." Inko said; stuttering her words, trying to hold back sniffling and hiccups whilst smiling just like her son does.
"I can see you are a wonderful mother. You may have not been able to help you son during these hard times, but now he needs that support. With your support, he can become the best hero he can become." Toshinori said, giving Inko a prettier smile on her face from before.
"And you, young Midoriya. You kept the love of your mother strong, even when she didn't give you the support you needed, but that didn't stop you. That is the greatest quirk any hero can have. Selflessness towards others in their own time of need." Toshinori said, which Izuku smiled too.
"Thank All... Mr. Yami. Mum is only one of the few people close to me. Other than her, there are aunt Mitsuki and uncle Masaru, and Kacchan. With so little close people in my life, I learned to cherish those around me more than most people would." Izuku said, his smile being as addictive as sugar.
("Ngh, crap. This kid is the embodiment of kindness and happiness. It's quite sickening with how dense his happiness aura feels.") Bardock thought, Izuku's happy nature feeling like a hot over to him.
"Alright, sorry to break up the happy hour, but I want to get back to why we are here." Bardock said, gaining everyone's attention again.
"Right, of course. Sorry, please continue." Inko said, wiping her tears and allowing Bardock to continue.
"Right so, you see ma'am. The training I'll put your son through will be much different to what you would expect from any normal everday training, so I want to warn you, it will be very strict and any slight mistakes could cast him time and energy, so if he comes home completely tired, you now know why." Bardock explained, but Inko upcoming question took him off guard.
"Will this affect his study's I know Izuku is a hard working boy, but I feel like he may become too overwhelmed with both his studying and training." Inko asked, already seeing her son coming home almost callapsing from exhaustion and his grade dropping like flies.
"Studying? Is that a kind of food?" Bardock said, with everyone in the room silently staring at him with blank faces.
"You... you cannot be serious?" Toshinori asked, thinking Bardock was a smart man.
"Did I say something?" Bardock asked, with Izuku speaking up.
"You just said if studying was food." Izuku said, dumbfounded that he relised his mentor could be an idiot.
Luckily for Bardock, Toshinori stepped in to save him,
"I-I'm sorry. Bardock here didn't have a normal life as many do. He was raised in the mountains and didn't have a proper education like us." He said, hoping Inko would believe his bluff.
"I understand, but I do want you to know this." Inko said, giving a stern stare at both of the adults.
"If my son's grades drop because of your training, you will be responsible, and will have to answer to me. Got it?" Inko said, as her eyes narrowed.
Bardock shouldn't be scared of this woman, but he couldn't help himself, but to sit up straight as he felt a shiver down his spine. Toshinori also felt a shiver down his spine, but he could sware the weight of the room was much greater than it originally was.
"Y-yes ma'am. I'll make sure his training doesn't affect his studying too much." Bardock said, mustering as much respect in his voice as he can.
"Good, because if his training is causing any problems, then you will go through hell and back to bring them back up." Inko said, as he tucked into her food.
"You are free to leave. I don't think I need to know more. I have your promise that the training you'll put my son through will help him succeed at becoming a hero." Inko said, her voice becoming more cheerful then what it was a few second ago.
Bardock and Toshinori understood, thanking her for their time there, as they left to the door. Bardock whispered to Toshinori that Inko was more scarier than he could have anticipated. Toshinori agreed, believing that was her protective side shining through her. Bardock agreed, remembering the time his wife was like a wild beast when their eldest son came home injured.
[Location–Dagobah Beach]
[Time–6:01am]
It was early in the morning. The sun was just rising from the horizon and most of the residents of Musutafu were still asleep with only the early birds being awake, which included Bardock and Izuku.
Izuku yawned, asking Bardock why he have to start his training so early.
"Becuase kid, the earlier you wake up, the more training you can put in. And don't worry, you'll get weekends and holidays off to rest." Bardock said, as he learned the various holidays Japan celebrates, and decided to give Izuku breaks during those times of the year.
"Okay, I understand. So what are we going to do today?" Izuku asks, still feeling a little droopy.
"I won't be doing anything kid. For the next month, you'll be cleaning this entire beach from coast to coast, to increase your body's physical strength and durability." Bardock explain, gesturing to the dozens of piles of trash that scattered across the whole beach.
"W-what?! I-I have t-to do this in a month?! T-that's insane?!" Izuku complained, not believing he could do that in the time frame he was given.
"Listen kid, if you want to become a great hero, then you need the physical strength behind it. The goal of this is to not clean the beach; because that should be the job of the city, but to improve your strength." Bardock said, trying to see his view point of his orders.
"I understand that, but wouldn't this strain my body too much. What if a strain a muscle? Break a bone or what if I sustain a injury that cannot be fully heal?" Izuku complained more, listed off many reasons why his body wouldn't handle the stress.
"Kid, stop mumbling. Like I said, you are not cleaning the whole beach, you are strengthening you muscles, and that's all. If you are unable to fully clean the beach by the end of the month, then we go to the next step of your training." Bardock said, trying to put the boy straight.
"Still. I would feel bad that I will leave a task half finished and..." Izuku was about to trail off, but then he felt a sharp pain in his chest.
Bardock launched his fist into Izuku's chest, not breaking any ribs and to only knock the wind out of the boy.
"So you want to clean the beach fully, huh? Very well, have it your way. But remember, this will be the hardest month of your entire life, so stop procrastinating and start hauling!" Bardock announced, as Izuku jumped to his feet after he was able to bring air back into his lungs.
"Yes Mr. Bardock! I'll start right away!" Izuku said, running straight into the mountain of trash.
Bardock watched Izuku move various trash around when he felt a spike of energy behind him. Not strong, but noticeable when any possible living thing is asleep.
"Here to watch over the kid, Yagi?" Bardock said, surprising Toshinori, as he was very quiet when he walked behind him.
"How did you...? Toshinori asked, which Bardock finished and answered his question.
"I knew you was there because I felt your energy. I have an ability that allows me to sense the living energy inside any living thing. Seeing how there are barely any other people on this beach besides us and it is late in the morning, you were the only one that I could have sensed." Bardock said, as Toshinori stood next to Bardock.
"Quite the useful ability I'd say. Does it involve your quirk by any chance?" He asked, but Bardoxc shook his head.
"No, I'm just like the kid. I have no special abilities you would call a quirk. But the abilities I do possess can be performed by anyone if given the right training. The kid will learn these abilities when his body is ready." Bardock explain, shocking Toshi grately.
"Wait, so that includes your immense strength and speed?" Toshi asked, with Bardock confirming his question.
Toshi asks if Izuku cleaning the beach will be Izuku's training until the exams, but Bardock explains he was planning to use this beach to build his muscles for a month and move onto the next stage in his training afterwards, whether or not he cleans the beach fully, but said he will now have the kid clean the entire beach in that 1 month time frame. Toshinori was about to argue that cleaning the beach in a month would be impossible, but Bardock said the kid dug his own hole, so he making him dig himself out.
"What the hell?! You are going too far with this! Your plan from the start was fine enough, but this is going over board! If I weren't restricted to 3 hours and I worked from sunrise to sundown, I could only cleaned this entire beach in a few weeks!" Toshi roared at Bardock, expanding his body to his buff form, stretching out his clothes as his muscles grew with them.
"Young Midoriya is still a child, which makes his body very susceptible to serious injuries and if he gets seriously injured, you would be accountable for his injuries!" All-Might chastised, wanting to attack Bardock for his strictness, but knew escalating the situation would only make it worse.
"I understand your concern Yagi, but have faith in me. By the end of this month, the kid will have achieve his greatest feat in his whole life, and he would still have 9 whole months left to train.
"What you are putting Izuku through is torture! I will not tolirate at such an act!" All-Might said, about to rush to Izuku to stop him, but Bardock quietly spoke to All-Might, freezing him in place with his cold voice.
"Take one more step and I'll personally show you what torture is." Bardock said, All-Might feeling a cold sweat down his face.
"The kid will slowly increase his strength over time with small objects and work his way up to bigger and heavier objects, when he has the strength to lift them." Bardock said, as he continued.
"A his strength grows, his ability to clean the beach also increases. And at the end of his training, he will have the perfect body to work with to control the various abilities I use." Bardock finished, with All-Might staring at Bardock blankly, then towards Izuku.
All-Might hated that Bardock was right, but felt like he needed to do something. If he was in charge of Izuku's training, he would given the boy 10 months to clean the beach, but a single month is ludicrous. But how can he go against a man who might be more powerful than him.
"All I am saying is you're going too hard on the kid, so you should tone down his training." All-Might said, hoping to put some sense into Bardock's head, but his head was as stubborn as his will to save civilians.
"Trust me, the training I went through was nothing like this. One mistake and it could have costed my life. My old man was a cruel, but he is the reason I am strong." Bardock said, remembering the many time he and his father trained.
All-Might stared at Bardock, berweilderd. he could never imagine what type of training Bardock went through. His eyes glanced over to the scar on Bardock cheek, seeing it was a very old scar, wondering if he had sustain an injury on his cheek during his brutal training.
CRASH!!!
Bardock and All-Might looked towards Izuku, seeing he was struggling to pull a entire washing machine, his finger gripping hand onto the washer's edges.
"Hey kid! Don't waste your time with things you can't lift or pull. Try something more lighter like that tire there!" Bardock yelled at Izuku, pointing his finger to the lone tire near Izuku.
"H-Hai!" Izuku bowed, as he lifted the tire up, throwing it over his shoulder.
Izuku ran across the sandy terrain with the tire to the drop-off point. All-Might watch Izuku clean the beach, seeing the fires of determination in the boy's eyes and heart. He smiled, accepting that Izuku's was in the right hands.
[One Week Later]
The first week of Izuku's training has been completed, and only a small portion of the beach has been cleaned, but Bardock wasn't worried, as he believed Izuku could clean the whole beach by the end of the month, guve ir rake a few extra days.
It was the weekend and Bardock was left alone on the beach, leaving Izuku alone for those two days to let his body heal for the next week. He was doing push ups, building up his strength to become strong enough to face against Frieza, incase he has to fight him once more.
Bardock then felt a familiar energy signiture. A type of energy he had felt many time over the past week.
"What are you doing here kid? You are supposed to be home, resting." Bardock said, with Izuku a few feet behind him.
"Oh, uh well, I just thought it would be nice to say hello. Is there anything wrong with that?" Izuku asked sheepishly, as Bardock rolled his eyes and continued with his own training.
"Alright. But let your body heal. You don't want to stunt the healing process." Bardock explained, as Izuku sat down next to him.
They both kept quiet, letting the sounds of the wind blowing by them, the flocks of seagulls flying over head and the crashing waves over the sandy shores. Izuku watched Bardock continue his push-ups and a question came into his head.
"Hey, Mr Bardock? Can I ask you something?" Izuku asked, with Bardock side eyeing him.
"Sure kid, what is it?" Bardock said, still doing his push-ups.
"W-well, I was wondering. When I was cleaning the beach, each time I look at you, you are always training. Even now, you are training. I want to know why you always train?" Izuku, asked, having Bardock stop his training to think about his answer.
He could easily tell the kid about his origins like he did to the UA teachers, but he knew that information could be told some other time. So he told Izuku about his passion for training and his goal to grow his strength, but leaving out his origin of being a Saiyan.
"Well, let say training is my passion." Bardock started, as he sat down on the sand with his right leg bent up and resting his arm on it.
"But I would say it is more of a burning light. A light that burns like a raging fire, a fire that can burn brighter than the sun. This fire is my passion, and the hotter and brighter it flares, the more motivated I am to train and to get stronger. This flame is almost impossible to destroy, and I must keep it in control, or it will cloud my judgment like it did before." Bardock finished, with Izuku staring at him.
"Not to be rude, but is there a reason you ahve this fire inside you?" Izuku asked, till Bardock realised that Izuku had his note book out again.
"WOULD YOU CUT THAT OUT!!! THAT'S CREEPY!!!" Bardock yelled, causing Izuku to flintch and to apologise.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry! It's just a habit of mine." Izuku spoke, picking his note book off the ground.
"Well, you need to get a hold of yourself! What are you even writing in there?" Bardock asked, snatching the book from Izuku and reading some of the pages.
"What the hell kid?! You're writing down our conversations! That's private information! If you are going to add information about someone into your notebooks, don't include things they say in private! You got that?!" Bardock chastised Izuku's invasive behaviour.
"Y-y-yes! I understand! I'll erase all the conversations I wrote in there." Izuku said, as he looked back up to Bardock.
"But to be honest, this is surprisingly good. With the information you put down, it shows that you are very aware of situations that happen around you. Just on my page alone, you have put down various abilities you seen me use and even some you theorised I have, plus the practical usage of my abilities in combat. I massively underestimated your intelligence, kid." Bardock praised Izuku, looking through Izuku's note book, amazed with the contents inside.
"Really, you think so?" Izuku asked which Bardock responded with,
"Of course. Just fix the problem with that conversation part and this could be the greatest asset to you and anyone you give it to." Bardock said, handing the notebook back to Izuku.
"Thank you, no one has ever praised me for the work I put into these notebooks! I am truely grateful!" Izuku thanked Bardock, bowing to him with his notebook pressed tightly to his chest by his arms.
Bardock waved off his thanking, and told the kid to go home, as he still needs his body to fully rest before he comes back on Monday. Izuku understood, waving Bardock goodbye as he left the beach. Bardock looked to the sky, smiling to the fact his first pupil has so much potential and talent, he may be on the level of some of the most powerful elite Saiyans. As long as he puts effort into his training.
Sorry this was a late chapter, but I was distracted by college work, so expect large gaps between each upload till the next half term. There are no questions as of writing this chapter, so please, ask any question you want and I'll be sure to answer them honestly, without spoiling anything in future chapters of course.
Hope you have a wonderful day and I'll see you in the next chapter.
