It had been a week since Eli arrived in Hell. He had to learn and adapt quickly, but thanks to his foster parents, he was adjusting better than expected.

He also learned that they worked as assassins, which didn't surprise him in the least. After all, he'd already learned how to grow numb to the world around him.

So, whenever they went to work, Eli was left in the care of Loona. The first couple of days had been awkward, but eventually, they warmed up to each other. Loona had become the annoying older sister, while Eli, despite his stoic nature, had become the gremlin little brother. He could be surprisingly funny when he wanted to be.

Today was no different. Loona, in a move that only she could get away with, picked Eli up under her arms like a ragdoll.

"Loona, let me go." Eli said, his voice flat. He just wanted to read a book he picked up at the mall yesterday, but Loona had other plans.

Loona gave him a shit-eating grin. "Nah, we're going to see if Fatty missed his shot." She said unapologetically. Eli had learned one thing about Loona: she enjoyed belittling Moxxie and annoying Millie.

Millie wasn't as easy to annoy. She would usually smile and brush it off, but ever since Eli came into the picture, Loona had started getting more interesting reactions from her.

Flashback...

Eli was lounging on the couch, scrolling through his phone—the one Loona had given him, which was probably stolen from somewhere. It didn't really matter in Hell, though.

Loona came over and flopped on top of him, burying him under her weight. Eli gasped as the air left his lungs, but he stared at her unamused.

"Sup." Loona said with a grin.

"Get off me." Eli demanded, though it had happened enough times by now that he didn't put up much of a fight.

Loona snorted. "Nah, I'm comfortable right now." She didn't move. Eli exhaled but allowed it.

That was when Millie entered the room. Her eyes widened when she saw the scene.

"Loona!" She gasped. "Get off him right now, young lady!" She scolded.

Loona snickered in amusement as she climbed off of Eli.

"I'm 22, and don't get your tail in a twist, I'm just playing with him." Loona said, her grin still wide. It was the first time she'd gotten a genuine reaction from Millie.

"So that's her goal." Eli thought in mild amusement. He didn't fully understand Loona's sense of humor, but if she was happy, he wasn't going to complain.

Loona hummed as she walked away, and Millie immediately started fussing over Eli.

"You okay, sugar?" Millie asked, concern flooding her voice.

"I'm fine… Ma." Eli said, his tone flat. He had reluctantly called her "Ma" after she insisted. Just as Eli was about to explain that he wasn't quite comfortable with it yet, Millie shot him a puppy dog look. Eli resisted at first—he had younger sisters who abused the same look to get what they wanted. But it didn't take long for him to crack when the tears appeared. Millie was good, Eli had to admit.

"Good." She said, giving him a warm smile. "Now get off that phone. That thing's gonna rot your brain." She grabbed him by the arm and practically dragged him away.

Flashback ends...

"Isn't Pop the best marksman out there?" Eli asked, glancing at Loona.

"Just because he taught you how to build guns doesn't make him the best," Loona air quoted with one hand. It's true, Moxxie was reluctant, but Millie insisted, and he found himself enjoying teaching Eli thanks to his ability to learn quickly, and he actually listens to him, which was rare.

They walked into the meeting room. Moxxie was preparing for his latest target practice while Millie stood by, cheering him on.

Loona let Eli down, standing near the door with him beside her. Millie noticed them and waved.

"Hey, sugar! Came to watch your pop make the shot?" Millie asked, her voice full of warmth.

Loona snorted. She rested her elbow on Eli's surprisingly soft hair, much to Millie's disapproval.

"Nah, we're here to see him fail." Loona said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

Eli, as usual, didn't react, but deep down, he was curious. Would Moxxie make the shot? Living with his foster parents had taught him that Moxxie liked to show he was more than just a killer. He prided himself on having standards, even in Hell.

Moxxie took aim, but his hand wavered. He lowered the crossbow with a sigh. "I can't do it." He admitted.

Millie exhaled, a smile spreading across her face.

"Called it." Loona chuckled under her breath, enjoying the moment.

"I just don't see why we have to kill such an innocent, normal family. If the dad was a mafia boss or something, I'd get it, but…" Moxxie rambled, only to be interrupted by Millie's soothing kiss on his cheek.

"Sweetie, it doesn't matter if the family seems innocent. If the client wants them dead, we make sure they're dead." Millie said, her tone firm. She didn't see any problem with it.

Eli muttered under his breath, barely audible. "If that's not the mindset of an assassin, I don't know what is."

Loona, ever the devil's advocate, grabbed the picture. "We don't know that they're innocent," she said, launching into her usual cynical tirade. "For all we know, the mother could be a degenerate and the father a cheating asshole. And look at that kid—definitely the face of someone who sets puppies on fire. His sister's probably a bitch who…"

"ANYWAYS!" Millie interrupted, cutting Loona off before things got any more explicit. She didn't want to explain that to Eli. "Humans have all kinds of nasty secrets. We don't know anything about them."

Moxxie smiled gratefully at Millie, placing his hand over hers. "Thanks, Mills."

Loona gagged dramatically, and Eli couldn't help but coo behind his stoic mask. They were so sweet, despite everything.

"Actually, hey Eli." Loona said, snapping Eli out of his thoughts. "Have you, like, done something bad before?"

Eli blinked, a little thrown off. "Other than a few white lies and accidentally drinking wine my ex-mother left on the table? Not really." He said honestly. His eyes flickered toward Millie as he mentioned his biological family. Millie didn't like them.

Loona raised an eyebrow. "Huh, the more you know."

Before Eli could respond, Blitzo barged into the room, dragging a sinner demon along with him.

"Guys, meet our—" Blitzo started, but his abrupt entrance set off a chain of chaotic events. Moxxie's crossbow shot off in panic, ricocheting around the room. Millie leaped into Moxxie's arms in surprise. The arrow struck the table next to her, going through the picture Loona was holding, stunning her. The arrow then went straight toward Eli. At the last second, he tilted his head, and it skimmed past his cheek.

"It's amazing how fast I've grown numb to this kind of stuff." Eli thought as Blitzo caught the arrow with a cocky smile. Eli had to admit, he was impressed.

Blitzo grinned widely. "—newest client!" he finished, looking entirely unbothered by the chaos.

The table with the tank of electric eels broke, spilling the eels everywhere. "Damn it, Moxxie! I just bought those eels online!" Blitzo shouted. The electric eels quickly started charging up, and a spark ignited the room. Fire broke out.

One call to the fire department later...

The I.M.P. crew was now outside, preparing for their next mission. Eli and Loona stood nearby, though Eli was focused on the scene, while Loona was glued to her phone.

"Don't worry, if that skank isn't dead in the next 24 hours, your kill is free." Blitzo said with enthusiasm. Mrs. Mayberry, the client, narrowed her eyes. The fire show hadn't convinced her, but they were the only demons around who settled old scores for sinners.

As the taxi pulled away, Mrs. Mayberry glanced at Eli, who stood there with his hood up. "Someone so young found himself damned here, huh?" she muttered under her breath sadly.

Moxxie approached Blitzo. "When was that policy implemented, sir?" He asked curiously.

Blitzo grabbed Moxxie's face with a grin. "When you set the office on fire!" Blitzo shouted before shoving Moxxie away. "Now someone better tell me the book is still intact!"

Loona waved the grimoire around nonchalantly. "You mean this?" She asked. "Yeah, I got it."

"Thanks, Looney. That's why you're my favorite daughter," Blitzo said with a sweet voice.

Loona shook her head and shoved the grimoire into Eli's hands before walking away. "Nope."

"Well, Looney left, so we've got no one to babysit Eli. Guess we're taking him with us!" Blitzo declared. Millie smiled, excited to bring her "baby boy" along on a mission. It was every mother's dream, right?

Moxxie grimaced. "I don't think that's a good idea, sir. Eli doesn't have the experience or skills for this." Eli nodded quickly, agreeing with Moxxie's assessment. He wasn't ready for this.

"If you hadn't set the office on fire, I might have listened!" Blitzo mocked, tossing a bag of weapons toward Eli, who caught it with a grunt. "Besides, the best way for him to learn is through experience." Blitzo handed Eli a piece of chalk.

Millie grinned. "It's fine, Moxxie. All Eli has to do is carry our weapons and use the book to defend himself."

Moxxie sighed and gave Eli an apologetic look. Eli returned it with a silent "it's okay" expression.

Eli drew a pentagram on the ground, opened the book, and began chanting.

"Hells Rift, door of life.

Between worlds, the path opens.

Bound by blood, unlocked by force.

Human gate, come to us."

A portal opened, and Eli couldn't help but think: Well, looks like I'm opening portals now.

Blitzo grinned widely. "Now let's go lick some ass!"

"The correct term is kick some ass, Blitz," Millie corrected with a smile.

"Really? Mine's better," Blitzo shrugged, following her through the portal.

"Well, fuck. Alright, Eli, let's go," Moxxie sighed. Eli grabbed his hand, following his foster father through the portal as it closed behind them.

A/N: At first I wanted to give my OC both ability to use weapons and magic, but decided against it. Because, one is for the sake of my sanity and two to avoid making him into a Mary Sue(nobody wants that). So I decided to go for magic, but just to be a little bit original I made him chant his spells instead of making him carry flashcards or papers like Lincoln from 'A Loud Among Demons.'

But don't worry the spells that requires him to chant are expert to intermediate level spells. The beginner type of spells only requires his focus and energy, because, you know, to balance him a bit.
