The I.M.P team stood along a sandy ridge overlooking a crowded beach, the salty breeze carrying the echoes of loud music and drunken cheers. College students, fresh into spring break, swarmed the shoreline like ants at a picnic, their laughter and reckless energy radiating across the beach. Verosika had chosen this chaotic scene for her special spring break concert, and the turnout was as impressive as it was inconvenient.
Blitzo crouched low, addressing his team with an uncharacteristic seriousness. "Alright, listen up, you guys. Remember the plan: don't get seen, no stray shots, and for Satan's sake, don't screw this up." His gaze flicked between them. "If these idiots panic, things will escalate, and we'll be in deep shit. Looney." He gestured at his adopted daughter. "You lead the targets somewhere quiet, and we'll take care of business. Got it?"
Loona rolled her eyes but nodded. "Yeah, yeah, I got it." She muttered, holding up the target list.
Blitzo wiped away an imaginary tear. "I'm so proud of you, sweetie. Now, fetch!"
With a huff, Loona turned toward the beach, her human disguise—sleek, fashionable, and effortlessly attractive—drawing the attention of the crowd almost immediately. As she descended into the crowd, Eli opened the grimoire, muttering a spell under his breath. Symbols glowed briefly on the pages before fading into his vision, outlining their targets in red. Loona glanced back, and their eyes met. Eli gave her a nod, confirming that the spell was working.
Her first target was an inebriated young man stumbling through the sand with a half-empty beer bottle. Loona approached him with a coy smile, pointing toward a more secluded area. The man, too drunk to question her intentions, followed eagerly.
Seconds later, a single gunshot rang out. The man collapsed lifelessly as Blitzo waved down from the ridge, grinning and giving Loona a thumbs-up. She ignored him and moved on to her next target.
Eli remained on the ridge, nose buried in the grimoire. Occasionally, he glanced up to ensure Loona was guiding the correct targets. Below him, Moxxie and Millie worked together to cover the second and third targets, their synchronized attacks as efficient as ever. The team was making steady progress, and for a while, everything seemed to be going according to plan.
Hours passed, and the operation was nearly complete. The team had eliminated most of their assigned targets, and Blitzo's confidence grew with each kill.
"Hah! I told you we'd win this thing!" Blitzo said, his grin stretching ear to ear as he tossed another body into the shadows.
Loona plopped down next to Eli, brushing sand from her disguise. "We might actually pull this off." She said, leaning back on her elbows.
Eli's stoic gaze remained fixed on the grimoire. "Feels like it." He said dryly. "But something doesn't sit right. Verosika wouldn't let us win this easily. She's playing with us."
As if on cue, a booming voice echoed across the beach.
"Calling all spring breakers!"
The music stage, now bathed in swirling pink mist, drew everyone's attention. A sultry figure emerged from the haze, her hips swaying with calculated precision. Verosika Mayday, in her radiant human form, stepped into the spotlight, a confident smirk playing on her lips.
The remaining beachgoers erupted into cheers, some throwing their hands in the air while others waved homemade signs professing their devotion. One particularly enthusiastic fan ripped off his shirt, revealing a poorly inked I love Verosika tattoo across his chest.
"Who's ready to get fucked up in the head and make some bad choices?" Verosika declared, her voice dripping with charisma.
The crowd roared in approval as Verosika's gaze swept across the beach. Her eyes locked onto Eli, and her smirk widened.
With a playful wink, she blew him a kiss before strutting backstage.
Eli swatted the imaginary kiss away with a grimace, and Millie gleefully pull out her lighter and "burn" it. "Not on my watch." She said with a grin.
An hour later, the odds of victory had shifted. Verosika's team was pulling ahead, and the I.M.P team's cohesion was unraveling.
Loona, distracted by Vortex's presence, had all but abandoned her duties, much to Blitzo's frustration. Moxxie, meanwhile, had been thrown into a barrel of alcohol by the party goers to render him incoherent, leaving Millie to tend to her drunk husband.
This left Blitzo alone to finish the job. Despite his best efforts, Verosika and her crew was already far ahead, and the gap only widened with each passing minute.
Eli, stationed at the edge of the beach, was left to his own devices. He couldn't shake the nagging sense of unease that had settled in his chest.
"She was playing with us." He muttered, staring out at the rolling waves.
A sudden sound behind him made him tense.
"Enjoying spring break?"
Eli turned to find Verosika standing a few feet away, her smirk as predatory as ever.
"What do you want?" Eli asked, his tone even but guarded.
"Oh, nothing much." Verosika purred, stepping closer. "I just thought I'd celebrate early. That little asshat is clearly losing."
Eli's gaze remained steady, though he instinctively took a step back.
Verosika chuckled, her eyes glinting with amusement. "You don't have to worry, sweetie. I'll take good care of you when this is all over."
Eli's expression didn't waver, but the faintest flicker of unease crossed his features as she stepped closer.
Without warning, he tripped on his own leg and fell onto his back.
Verosika crouched down, crawling toward him with a sultry gleam in her eyes. Her hands rested on either side of his head as she leaned in, her breath warm against his face.
"We're pretty far from the party," she murmured, her voice heavy and intimate. "No one's going to interrupt us here."
Eli's mind raced. His hand twitched, ready to push her off, but before he could act, the water behind them rippled ominously.
A low growl echoed from the waves, cutting through the tension like a knife. Verosika froze, her expression shifting from seductive to startled.
"What the—"
A massive, shadowy shape surged out of the water, its glowing eyes fixed on them. Eli quickly tackle Verosika out of harms way.
Verosika scrambled to her feet, her confident demeanor shattered. "What the hell is that?!"
Eli, brushing sand from his clothes, stared at the creature with a blank expression. "I don't know." He said calmly. "It's either radioactive waste or someone fed it too much."
A/N: And that another chapter done!
Okay, so, I don't know what to write here to the point I re-read A loud amongs demon again to get some idea. After writing it, I realize again it was lazy. So I refined it, and try to be as original as possible. It was not easy :(
