For the next few minutes, Sonic, Mighty and Ray zoomed across Robotnik's island. They braved many terrors, traveling through the Trap Tower and avoiding its various traps. As they scaled a massive ladder with mines detonating on it, Sonic quipped,

"Is it just me, or is this place a serious workspace safety violation?!"

They barely managed to reach the top after dodging the mines, and once they cleared the tower, they moved on to an area Robotnik had designated Landslide Limbo. Once again they ran across a strip of land suspended in the air that was crumbling behind them. After climbing a slope which had fireballs falling down it, they eventually came across a giant buzz saw contraption in an "arena" marked by electrical videos.

Sonic looked at this contraption and couldn't help but chuckle a little. He proclaimed,

"Alright! Now this is getting interesting!"

Sonic then curled into a ball and used his supersonic spin attack on the buzzsaw contraption's power core, which was conveniently out in the open. However, as soon as he did so, 2 cranes suddenly rolled out from it and shot 2 buzzsaws at him, with the hedgehog barely dodging them. Jets of flames then suddenly shot from the flamethrowers at the side of it, with Mighty and Ray avoiding them barely.

Ray began to panic and asked Sonic,

"S-Sonic! What do we do?!"

Sonic's look turned serious as he replied,

"Just keep your head in the game and keep going! Make sure not to get yourselves hit by that thing's attacks!"

An annoyed Mighty yelled in response,

"Oh, you think?!"

The 3 mobians then began hammering the buzzsaw contraption with spin attacks, slowly chipping away at it while dodging the various attacks coming from it. Finally, a colossal punch from Mighty destroyed the machine's power core, causing the entire thing to explode. This blasted the 3 mobians back slightly, but they quickly recollected themselves and looked down to see a giant hole in the ground left by the buzzsaw machine's explosion.

Mighty wondered what was at the bottom, and when he voiced this out loud, Sonic smirked and proclaimed,

"Well, only one way to find out!"

The mobian hedgehog then jumped into the pit, with Mighty telling him to wait. Sighing as he saw Sonic disappear into the hole, he looked to Ray and told him,

"Come on, Ray. We better make sure our new friend doesn't get himself killed."

Ray nodded and jumped into the pit alongside Mighty, grabbing him and gliding to the bottom. Once they reached the bottom, they found Sonic being sent falling into a water system when a bridge that would have taken him into Robotnik's tower collapsed beneath him. The 2 quickly jumped after him, and together the 3 braved the wild waterway.

Sonic was having a full on panic attack as they swam through the water while dodging the various mines scattered throughout and running from 2 propellers that were threatening to cut them to ribbons, with Mighty and Ray being forced to drag him along with them. They eventually managed to get to a wall of rock that they quickly climbed, managing to get their way out of the water.

Sonic panted in exhaustion once he emerged from the water, saying inbetween labored breaths,

"When I…get my hands…on that overgrown egg, I'll make him wish he was never born!"

Mighty yelled at him in response,

"Stop whining and climb!"

Sonic quickly followed Mighty's orders, and followed behind him and Ray as they climbed the rock wall and dodged the water geysers that shot out of it. Once they reached the top, they saw a waterway with wooden platforms floating across it. Sonic cringed at the idea of going across it, but when he saw Mighty and Ray begin hopping across it, Sonic shook his head and began doing the same.

Once they finished, they quickly climbed another rock wall, and after going across wooden platforms one more time, the 3 reached dry land and ran into Robotnik's tower. This was it. The final stretch. They all made their way up the steps, but as soon as they reached the top, the way out was suddenly blocked off by a jet of flames.

Robotnik's voice then appeared over a monitor and proclaimed,

"So, you rodents managed to get all the way here! I suppose I should expect nothing less from you at this point, Sonic. But it's the other two I'm impressed by. No matter. YOU WON'T BE LEAVING THIS PLACE ALIVE!!!!"

The wall of flames then began closing in on them, causing Sonic to yell,

"Looks like that's our cue to book it!"

Sonic, Mighty and Ray then began running across the hallway, but once they reached the end of it, the wall behind them exploded. Out of it emerged the very same vehicle that had initially captured them, which began chasing after them. The 3 mobians ran from the vehicle while dodging spiky guillotines that threatened to slice them in half vertically.

They eventually reached a ladder and began climbing it, but as they did, they were pursued by 2 buzzsaws embedded in them. As they did, Robotnik mocked them over the intercom, telling them,

"Is that all you've got, rodent?!"

Sonic growled at this, and as he ran across the collapsing walkway alongside Mighty and Ray, he yelled at the doctor,

"Robotnik, once we catch you, you're gonna get scrambled! 3 times as hard!

Mighty quickly responded to Sonic's declaration by telling him,

"Actually Sonic, I'm a pacifist, so I don't really feel like hurting anybody."

"...Oh."

The 3 mobians then headed back inside the fortress once thy reached a dead end, and as they were pursued by a giant rolling cylinder, Sonic told Mighty,

"I mean, you don't have to hit ol' Eggman himself, but you'll still help me smash his machines, right?"

"You bet! What do you think, Ray?"

"Aw, yeah!"

Once the 3 mobians finished running across the second and last collapsing walkway, they came to a corridor where they once again had to escape a sea of flames coming from behind them before coming up on a large gate. The gate then slid open to reveal Robotnik standing in his control room, looking royally pissed. Sonic yelled out his name and he and the other two mobians ran into the room.

Sonic told him to give it up, and Ray added,

"How unprepared! Where's your final machine?"

Mighty then added,

"I might not punch you in the face, but Sonic will!"

To accentuate this point, Sonic punched his fists together. He was really looking foreward to socking Robotnik a good one for all he had done. Robotnik was visibly angry, yelling,

"Damn it….so you all survived…!"

Surprisingly, the mad doctor then smirked and said,

"But did you really think it would be that easy?"

Just then, a yellow panel on the floor rose up to reveal a podium which the top slipped open to reveal a yellow button. Robotnik then yelled,

"YOU'LL NEVER ESCAPE!!!"

Sonic, Mighty and Ray's eyes all widened in horror as Robonik pressed the button, causing a loud siren to begin blaring and the room to begin flashing red. Still smirking maniacally, Robotnik put on a jetpack that he had had next to his control console and yelled,

"So long, fools!"

Robotnik then flew off into the air, leaving through an opening in the roof that appeared as he flew through it. While Mighty and Ray cursed the doctor out. Sonic couldn't help but smirk, remarking,

"Of course. Classic exploding base right on cue."

He then held his hands out to Mighty and Ray and told them,

"Come on, you guys! It's time to juice and jam!"

Mighty and Ray quickly grabbed both of his hands and they began running. Realizing that they wouldn't make it out of there at this rate, Sonic decided to step into overdrive, going to his top speed and running as fast as he could. Luckily, Sonic was now far faster than he was during the days of the Sonic Underground, and was barely able to clear the tower in time to be out of range of the explosion that followed.

Once they reached the mainland, Sonic stopped and let Mighty and Ray go. After the 2 finished vomiting from the sheer speed they had experienced, Sonic helped them up and looked to the distance. As he was about to run off, Mighty told him,

"Yo, Sonic. Before you go, Ray and I wanted to thank you for rescuing us."

Ray happily added to his best friend's thank you by telling Sonic,

"Yeah! If it weren't for you, we would've been trapped forever or turned into robots!"

Sonic turned to them and smirked, replying,

"I should be thanking you! If it wasn't for you guys, I don't know if I would've made it out of Robuttnik's island alive! I could tell that all those traps were designed for me."

"Really? That's not how I remember it?"

Everyone shared a hearty laugh at Mighty's words, and Sonic then asked the duo where they would be going now. Mighty wasn't sure so Sonic told him,

"There's a group of freedom fighters that send information about Robotnik to our main base of Angel Island called the Chaotix. They live in Seaside Hill. maybe you guys could join 'em!"

Mighty agreed to think about it. Ray then asked Sonic where he was going to go, and the hedgehog hero replied,

"Well, considering how hard Doctor Robuttnik tried to take us out today, I can tell he's planning something huge. So I'm gonna show him what for!"

Mighty then looked off into the distance and told Sonic,

"Well, we're off. I'm not much of a fighter, but you can bet your quills that we'll get stronger, and not let Robotnik push us or anyone else around!"

Sonic smiled at this and got into a running stance, telling Mighty and Ray,

"Right on! Well, nice meeting you two! Gotta juice!"

The hedgehog then sped off, leaving a trail of dust in his wake. However, as he ran across the vast landscape, he suddenly began hearing a garbled voice on his communicator, as well as the sounds of battle. He screeched to a halt and pulled his communicator out of hammerspace, saying into it,

"This is Sonic. What's going on?"

Knuckles's voice then sounded over the communicator, yelling,

"Sonic…Angel island is under attack!"
