Chapter 68- Daniel
The day was perfect, no clouds in the sky, just warm late fall sunshine, I watched as Zo and Alex stood nervously, Teddy and April beside them. I had taken my seat in the front row, Lucia on my left, and a vacant chair to my right, with a picture of Barbara on it with a rose. Something Callie had insisted on, Callie had said even though she wasn't here she still needed a place. Hearing the music start, I turned and seeing Sofia walking down the aisle, I couldn't help but smile. Sofia was followed by Meredith and Addison. Aria needed a bridesmaid, so she chose Meredith, and Sofia was always supposed to walk down like that. At least I think. Once they had made it to the front the music changed again, and the sound of everyone standing was heard. I felt my heart skip a beat when I saw Carlos, Callie had her arm through his right arm, and Aria on his left, as they made their way slowly down the aisle. I felt Lucia take my hand and heard her sniffle. Once they got to the front Alex and Zo both stepped out reaching for their brides. "who gives these women to these" Bailey says pauses "people"
"their mother and I do" Carlos says, as he places a kiss on each of his daughters cheeks, then turns to find his seat, we had left the first chair in the row empty for him. "alright" the short woman starts to say "we might be a week late, but better late than never" the crowd laughs. "we are all gathered today to witness, not only one love but two, and I am honored to be part of this" I could feel myself start to tear up. I knew when this day came it would be an emotional one for me. "I'll make this short, as requested" she paused, I tried to pay attention to what was being said, but my mind went back to the day Barbara and I got married. Although I loved her, my heart always belonged to Carlos. Looking over at the vacant chair next to me, my eyes are on the picture. I feel Lucia squeeze my hand and I turn my head towards her, she gave me a smile and nodded towards Carlos, who was smiling, when our eyes met, he gave me a wink. Since I wasn't paying attention I was surprised when I heard "let me be the first to introduce Arizona and Calliope Robbins, and Alex and Aria Robbins"
"what?" I exclaim, I hear Lucia laugh and when I look at Carlos he's laughing too. I'm totally floored by this and missed the couples walking down the aisle. Standing I made my way to the foursome. I knew Zo and Callie were taking the last name Robbins, but I had no idea about Alex. When I reached them, Alex was smiling "I hope you liked the surprise Pop"
"I" I didn't know what to say, I smiled "yes"
"good because we aren't changing it" Aria says
"I'm honored" I smile, I don't know what else to say.
"good" Aria says as she moves closer to me and before I know it she's pulling me into a hug. "I know it's a shock, but I hope you're ok with it" she whispers
"of course I am" I say hugging her back when she pulls away I see Callie standing there, looking into her eyes, I felt a sense of happiness wash over me, as she reaches out and pulls me into her. "welcome to the family"
"grandpa" Sofia says, Callie lets me go and I turn to see Sofia with a wide smile on her face. I loved that she called me grandpa. She runs up and wraps her arms around me. "now we are a real family"
"we've always been a real family" I say squeezing her.
"pictures" April calls out,
"dad this means you" Zo says as she pulls Sofia off of me.
"I hate this" I mutter to myself and hear Zo laugh as I follow her to where they were taking pictures.
Alright so I got a little lazy with the wedding and decided to do it through Daniel's POV. Hope you all like the surprise Alex and Aria had for him. :)
