Hey! Sorry I know it's been a long time since any activity happened on my account. I started this one, let's count it as part 1. Let me know what you think and part 2 will come shortly!

Arizona couldn't believe it. Callie fucking Torres. Pinch…no not dreaming again…Callie fucking Torres was stood right in front of her for the first time in 763 days. So maybe it wasn't under the best circumstances and honestly Arizona is still half convinced what she's seeing isn't real but to see Callie is just…wow.

"Hey…Arizona?" It speaks. "How are you feeling honey? Sophia's here an…and I'm here" Oh god.

The pit was as hectic as ever and quite frankly, Meredith has had enough for one day. She started her day heading straight into surgery only 15 minutes after walking into the building, got caught up in the pit with patient after patient after patient and now? Now she's stuck covering Bailey's intern demo. But hey, this is what she had dreamt of having one day and now here she was so who can complain really, right?

Meredith let her head fall back, eyes closed, and deep breath as she felt and heard her pager ring out. Why? Because she knew she was about to be up against it - whilst teaching, pages only came through unless absolutely crucial to avoid any distraction. Her interns looked at her carefully as she looked at the pager, another deep breath, and off she went running down the hallway…back to the pit. She knew today was going to be shit.

"Hunt, what we got?" She asks as she walks into Trauma 2 and a nurse hands her gloves. "Patient is suspected to have been domestically abused, from the initial exam - several broken ribs, head lac, broken tibia and a nasty stab wound to the chest, we'll know more after CT…patient is Arizona Robbins." Wait, what?

Eyes flicker between Meredith, Owen and Amelia, wondering how in the hell this happened. Seriously, how did this happen?

"Okay, patient is stable, let's get her to the front of the CT line…NOW!" Meredith takes Arizona's hand as the bed starts to wheel, going over every possible scenario and what if in her head. She knew one thing for sure, she wasn't leaving her side from now on. They took care of each other, that was the deal. "Arizona, it's Mer. Me, Owen and Amelia are here. I won't leave your side but you have to promise me you won't die today, remember our deal." That earns a strange look from the other two but honestly, Meredith had some more pressing concerns right now.

"Owen, I will call her I promise but after the surgery. Even if she was here, she couldn't operate anyway and there's no way any of us are asking her to do that." Meredith was firm as she said it, letting Owen know there was no compromise here. "Link is more than capable, he'll deal with any broken bones while I get that internal bleeding under control, okay?" Owen's slight nod told her everything she needed to know. He knew there was no compromising right now, it was the right and best call to make. "Okay, if you're sure."

Meredith hovered her thumb over the contact, more nervous for this call than she can ever remember being. She knew this was the right thing to do, she wasn't sure if Arizona would think so but she'd cross that bridge when they got to it.

"Ring…Ring…Ring…Ri "Hello? Meredith?" A sleepy voice came across the line. Meredith glanced at her watch - it was 1am in New York. Great, so now she's not only got to tell her the shittest news of her year but she's also woken her up.

"Hi Callie, sorry to wake you."

"It's okay…what's up?"

"I don't know how to tell you this but it's Arizona…she's been in an accident…" Silence follows, Meredith can hear Callie's mind running a million miles per hour, probably thinking of any and every scenario possible.

"I think you need to bring Soph here…I think you need to see her Callie." She knows it sounds cryptic but she needs to let Callie know just how serious it is without telling her details right now. That could come later.

"Mer, what's happened?"

"Callie, please just get on a plane as soon as you can. You need to be here."

"Okay I'll be there by 8…can you just answer one question for me?" Silence, waiting for an answer she wasn't going to get. Meredith didn't want to tell her details over the phone - Callie was smart enough to figure out just how Arizona got those injuries. She knew the Torres' have their ways but how she was planning on being here in 7 hours if the flight was six and a half hours Meredith didn't want to know.

"Is she alive?"

"Yes Callie, she's alive."

Meredith looked at her stats again - still holding strong. "That's it Robbins, just hang in there. I know I said last night to not die, that applies to today and any day after that as well you know…who did this to you?"

She leaned back in the chair, where she had settled for the night right after speaking with Callie. She wasn't leaving her side, not until Callie was here at the very least. It was 0630 now, she'd be here soon.

Meredith knew it was going to be hard for Callie to walk in here, she hadn't been back in years and although never voiced, she knows there's a reason for that. Of course, there's also the small fact that she and Arizona hadn't been in the same room for almost the same amount of time, ferrying Sophia back and forth with the nanny or Callie's family. From what Meredith heard, they rarely and briefly spoke on the phone, mainly texting. Even that small amount of contact was strictly about Sophia only. Arizona couldn't bring herself to get on a plane ride that length and Callie couldn't be that far from work for prolonged periods of time. Meredith knew it was because it was too painful. For both of them.

She truly had no idea how Callie was going to react to this. Would she be upset? Angry? Confused? Arizona was quite a sight, she'd say unrecognisable but Callie would know who it was from a mile away. Her neck and chest had turned an angry shade of purple, only bolded by the dressing over where the stitches from the chest wound were. The head lac had calmed slightly but again, a bandage and bruising there as well. Although not visible, Meredith knew her ribs would be screaming with pain given the somehow darker purple they were. The most concerning though? Arizona's one remaining leg had taken a beating, she had purposefully covered Link's handy work up with a blanket. She didn't need that to be the first thing Arizona or Callie saw. Link was confident the leg would make a full recovery but Meredith had seen how Arizona reacted when she had lost her leg, she knew there would be more emotions behind this. Mix those with the realities of what had happened? She knew it would be too much for either of them to take so soon.

"Mer…oh my god…what happened?" Callie looked disheveled as she squeezed through the ICU door before closing it. No sign of Sophia. Meredith could tell she had literally jumped out of bed and drove straight to an airport, she wasn't her usual put together self.

"Hey, how was the flight? I haven't left her side, I know you won't admit it but I knew you'd kill me if I did. Where's Soph? Wait…how'd you get here so quickly?"

"I have my ways. Sophia's with Amelia. I…I wasn't sure what I was walking into here and wanted to be prepared before Soph came in. She knows something is wrong with her mama though, she's worried…I'm worried. Mer…what happened?"

"Let's step out, we'll stay right outside just in case." Callie nodded in a nervous way, even after not seeing her for so long it was weird for Meredith to see.

They both stared into the room from the wall of windows. "Callie, I need you to stay calm when I say this and trust me I know it's not easy because I wanted to punch anything in sight when I found out… But promise me first you will stay calm for now, whilst you're here."

"Okay…Meredith you're scaring me."

They both continued staring.

"Arizona was brought in last night via ambulance, she was unconscious then and hasn't been awake since she got here. Owen was the first attending beside her, followed by Amelia and then me. She presented with a head lac, a stab wound to the upper chest, a broken tibia and multiple broken ribs. We took her straight to surgery where Link fixed any broken bones and I made sure the internal injuries were under control. As you know, although these injuries could be caused by many things, they are consistent with abuse. Obviously, we haven't had the chance to speak to her and ask what happened yet, that's if she even remembers but speaking with the paramedics pretty much confirmed this was done by someone. Arizona managed to call for an ambulance but once they had got there, they said it was as if she knew she could give in and let her body feel. They told us that they found her on the kitchen floor curled up in a ball. There was a knife on the counter, glass on the floor and the door hadn't been fully closed…I'm so sorry Callie I know this wasn't the reason you wanted to come back here."

"No…no it wasn't."
