Chapter Twelve: A Job Well Done
The sun began to set over the Pride Lands as the Lion Guard, Makini, and the baboon siblings made their way back to Rafiki's tree. The air was warm and peaceful, a stark contrast to the chaos they had faced earlier.
Waiting beneath the great baobab tree were Amara and Rafiki, their eyes lighting up as they saw the group approaching. Bongo and Bobo's faces lit up with joy.
Bongo and Bobo: "Mom!" They cried, sprinting forward.
Asha: *baby voice* "Mommy!" She squealed as she ran as fast as her little legs could carry her.
Amara bent down with open arms, catching all three of them in a tight hug.
Amara: "Oh, my little ones! I missed you!" She said, holding them close.
The siblings snuggled into her embrace.
Amara: "Did you three have fun with Makini?" She pulled back slightly, looking at them with a warm smile.
Bongo, Bobo, and Asha: "Yeah!" They chirped in unison, grinning.
Amara: "I'm so glad." She laughed softly. "Thank you for babysitting, Makini." She then turned her attention toward Makini, her expression filled with gratitude.
Makini: "You're welcome." She smiled brightly.
Rafiki stroked his chin as he looked at her thoughtfully.
Rafiki: "So, Makini… I hope you did a good job at babysitting." He said, his voice both wise and curious.
Makini hesitated for a moment before taking a deep breath.
Makini: *exhales* "Rafiki, I have to tell you the truth." She stepped forward, looking Rafiki in the eye. "When I was meditating, Bongo, Bobo, and Asha were playing hide and seek in a log. I should've kept a better eye on them… but then there was a fire, and it spread around the log. They could've been hurt if I hadn't gotten the Lion Guard's help." She admitted, her voice laced with honesty.
Rafiki listened intently, his expression calm and understanding.
Makini: *sighs* "And I know you told me babysitting is a big responsibility, but… I didn't want to let you down." She sighed, her ears lowering slightly.
Rafiki remained silent for a moment, his wise eyes studying her. Then, a warm, proud smile spread across his face.
Makini: "Well, I'm glad you told me the truth, Makini. But you did a good thing today." He placed a gentle hand on her shoulder, his voice was kind and full of wisdom.
Makini blinked, her ears perking up.
Makini: "I did?" She asked, her voice filled with surprise.
Rafiki: "Yes. You handled things on your own, and when the baboons were in danger, you knew to get the Lion Guard's help. That is what a responsible babysitter does. For that, I am proud of
you." She nodded.
Makini's face brightened with relief and joy.
Makini: "Thanks, Rafiki." She said, her heart swelling with pride.
Amara: "And you're welcome to babysit my kids anytime you like, Makini." She stepped forward, placing a hand on Makini's back, her expression just as warm.
Makini: "Thanks, Amara." She beamed.
Suddenly, Bongo, Bobo, and Asha ran up to Makini and wrapped their little arms around her in a big, warm hug.
Makini: "Hehehe." She giggled, touched by their affection. "Aww. Thanks, you guys." She hugged them back, squeezing them gently.
Everyone else smiled, watching the sweet moment unfold. The day had been full of challenges, but in the end, it had taught Makini a valuable lesson—one that she would carry with her forever.
