The group was terrified of the events that would come next. As they approached the final stretch of the volume, all of them attempted to prepare themselves. Team RW and Crew were facing a giant robot that seemed to have a lot of dust stored inside of it, and Blake was up against Adam.
They don't have much to say, just that they hope this will all turn in their favor. The students mustered up enough courage for Raider to start the episode, and they watched their counterparts' fates unfold.
(Volume 6 Intro)
"You're joking, right? You want to fight this thing?" Weiss says in disbelief.
What other choice do they have? If they didn't fight, there was a high chance that Cordovin would arrest them all.
Ruby tells Weiss that they fought Giant monsters before.
The only difference between this foe and the other giant monsters is that this one wasn't a Grimm.
"This is just a tiny old lady…with one very big robot."
Okay, so this is just a giant robot which means that they would need to locate its generator, and the biggest threat, that they've seen on it, would be the giant right cannon hand. If they find someone way to destroy one of those then the robot won't be able to fight.
"You little spider-roaches think you could sneak your way into Atlas?" Cordovin found the mere thought hilarious.
"We were almost able to do it if Adam hadn't shown up at the most inconvenient of times!" Yang shouts. If he wasn't there, Blake would have easily been able to disable the radar, the Argus guard wouldn't have detected the ship and they could have gotten to Atlas with no harm no foul.
"Well, let's see how your resolve holds out against the might of the Atlesian Military!" A compartment above the cannon opens up and a missile filled with fire dust is released. It's blown up by Ruby and Cordovin discovers this by looking down at the cliff.
"You can keep your rust bucket's bullets off my girlfriend you tiny old Atlas-obsessed lady!" Ruby was panting as everyone stared at her with wide eyes. They were not expecting that.
"Yeah!" Nora joined, shouting her agreement.
Ruby's expression was hard, holding no room for amusement.
"Ruby did not take kindly to that," Sun joked. A few others laughed, shaking their heads. Weiss looked over at Ruby who had the same appearance.
Cordovin aimed her cannon at the group and in the airship, Weiss yelled for Maria to dive while she took off her seat belt. Weiss stepped out of the airship and just as the cannon released a blast of energy, Weiss created a wall that protected them.
All of them let out sighs of relief as this gave them some kind of protection from Cordovin's attacks. It gave them a space where they could safely come up with a plan to defeat the robot, just as long as Cordovin didn't come and smash the wall, but she wouldn't resort to murder over this, right?
Ruby took a moment to eye the robot. On the arm with the cannon, all around it had multiple chambers for dust. So, if at the perfect moment, they set off a chain reaction and destroyed one of them, it would take out the entire cannon.
Jaune called that close.
A little too close if someone were to ask them, but no one got hurt.
"We need to figure out how to stop Cordovin and protect the airship until we do," Ruby declares. Jaune puts out the idea that they should give her more targets to focus on.
The robot is big, but it's prolonged, it won't be able to stop all of them if they're all spread out and moving.
Nora deadpans as he means them, doesn't he? "Look at that thing, it's not designed for small enemies. I-I'ts probably meant for giant Grimm that come in from deeper waters," Jaune assesses, looking through the ice.
Jaune became suspicious and got a bad feeling after hearing that. Was that meant to be some kind of foreshadow? He hoped not.
"We can turn our size into an advantage, we just have to be smart."
They could all split into groups, preferably of an equal amount of people so Cordovin doesn't go for one more than the other as she would see the bigger group as the bigger threat.
"Maria, can you keep the ship out of harm's way?" Ruby asks. Maria stated that they could take her driver's license, but she wouldn't let them take the ship. Ren calls that very reassuring in a sarcastic voice.
They're all with Ren on that one.
Oscar will go with Maria as he can find a weakness from up high. Qrow tells Oscar he's not the only one who can get a bird's eye view. Weiss mentions that Ruby needs her on the ground. "Not exactly," Ruby replies.
Weiss grew skeptical, what did Ruby have in mind for her? Well, she figures she'll find out in the next couple of seconds.
The frost from the ice clears as Cordovin stares intently. Her pupils shrink as the entire team splits up. Team JNR runs left, Maria flies right, and Ruby and Qrow fly upwards.
"And break!" Nora shouts.
Ruby raises Crescent Rose and fires, getting the glass on the robot. Cordovin releases her frustration with more missiles that head straight for Ruby who lands on a tree branch. Using her semblance, Ruby bounds off some of the missiles, and Ruby slides down a slope of ice that was from a wave.
Ah, so that must have been what Ruby meant by 'not exactly'. Weiss sighs, shaking her head. Ruby looked like she was having too much fun.
Weiss uses her glyphs to follow after Ruby and the two jump off one small platform of ice to another. Nora's bullets as well as Jaune grab Cordovin's attention as they run along the edge. "And you said it wasn't beach season," Nora says to Ren.
"Nora, this still isn't beach season," Ren tells her. Nora huffs, not entirely agreeing with that statement.
"I have no idea what you're denying for," Nora replies.
The group hides behind some buildings and shoots from afar. The missiles explode, but only against a shield.
The giant robot has a shield?! Well, if they wanted to do anything now then they would need to find where the power for the shields is coming from and destroy that. "We didn't know she could use shields!" Nora shouted.
The kids were shocked as Cordovin laughed. "Surely you knew Atlas was the father of hard light dust or do lesser kingdoms simply lack proper education?" More dust was absorbed into the cannon and the students ran to evade each of the rocky blasts. Jaune tells Oscar that Cordovin just activated shields.
I didn't know what more Cordovin could do to give herself more of an advantage. They didn't want that answered.
"I saw that, we need to find whatever's generating it," Oscar declares.
Maybe they could get some of their friends on the robot and they could start tearing some pieces off to find the generator, it has to be somewhere around the chest of the robot or, better yet, along the robot's main plates of metal.
"You know, in video games– "
"Ruby this isn't a video game!" Weiss shouted.
"The weak spot's usually on the back of the giant boss!" Weiss shouts to Ruby that this isn't a game.
Raider fought back her laugh, someone's gonna owe Ruby an apology once they see.
Qrow flies above and Ruby is about to say she's just trying to help when the robot's foot comes down on one of the ice platforms. Qrow changes back to his human form and swings Harbinger. "You are apt! You are lower than I!"
Both of Ruby and Weiss scoff. Weiss was immensely glad she didn't turn out like Cordovin. She could thank all her friends for that. "Now that's just rude!" Ruby yelled. All of them were waiting for them to kick this woman off her high horse that reached higher than the size of her robot.
Qrow lands on the back of the bot and Cordovin is startled by the thud, asking what that was.
Like they'd tell her.
"Until the shield's down, we're gonna have to get up close and personal with this thing," Qrow says. Qrow shoots at it as the bot's hand comes to grab him. Qrow flies off in time and Cordovin finds nothing there.
"Easier said than done," Ren mumbles.
Ren yells that's easier said than done. Ruby tells the group that she and Weiss are on it. Weiss tells Ruby to hold on as she stabs Mytenaster into their platform, creating spikes of ice that hit the foot of the robot. Cordovin cries out as it causes her to stumble.
"Whoo!" Ruby exclaims, bringing Weiss into a side hug.
Oscar looks more closely at the cannon, getting an epiphany, but it's stopped as Oscar screams for Ruby to move as Cordovin points the cannon at them.
"Ruby!" Yang yells, hoping for her sister and Weiss to get out of the way.
Missiles are launched and for a moment there is only water blasted into the air.
Ruby…? Yang hated these moments, why did they have to have them?!
Weiss and Ruby dash out of the water on a queen lancer summon.
The room lets out a sigh of relief.
Ruby jumps off the lancer, spinning at high speeds with Crescent Rose and slicing the metal. Maria excitedly cheered as she watched.
All of them were in the same boat as Maria. "Destroy it! Wreck iiiiiiit!" Nora bellowed.
Cordovin backed into the cliff crying out and causing the ground to rumble, scaring the people of Argus.
A spike of fear filled them. Their fight with Cordovin was resulting in so much stress from the other citizens and it was going to attract the Grimm.
Now was Team JNR's chance. They ran toward the robot and it put its hand on the ground, so Ren used it to start climbing with his weapons. Ren swayed as Jaune cut at the metal and Nora slammed Magnhild against the cannon.
"Hey, watch it!" Nora yelled. She wasn't shouting at her friends, it was the old woman who was causing Ren to swing.
Ren continued to climb and Ruby hung in Cordovin's sight. Ruby cutely waved.
They were worried for the girl's safety as she was right in front of Cordovin, but now wasn't the time for the show to be comical!
"Get off of me!" Cordovin yelled, bringing her hand toward Ruby. Ruby cried as she fell.
"Ruby!" All of them screamed with horror.
Weiss caught her at the last second and Ruby laughed.
Weiss was about to say something, but it seemed her counterpart was about to do it for her.
"What if I hadn't caught you?" Weiss claimed.
"I knew you would," Ruby said with such confidence.
"Get a room you two!" Nora yelled. This caused both of the girls to blush profusely, but Weiss felt deeply touched that Ruby held so much trust and faith in her.
When Weiss had her back turned, Ruby let out a sigh of relief.
Weiss clicked her tongue, Ruby.
Ren had climbed to the back of the bot and heard whirring. The edge of one of his blades came between the cover. The shaking of the bot made him lose his grip, but Qrow caught him. The man asked Ren what he found and it was the generator to the shields.
"Huh, well what do you know," Yang murmured.
The group stared blankly until Ruby proudly puffed out her chest. "See, on the back of the boss. I told you." Weiss was quiet, but she didn't argue. Ruby took her silence as a win.
Qrow and Ren began to repeatedly shoot at the generator and the shields were disabled. Cordovin shouted her frustration as Nora fired her missiles. "You get back here with my man!" Nora yelled angrily.
Now it was Ren and Nora's turn to blush. Ren spared a glance at Nora, h-her man? Ruby turned all the way around, her knees on the couch, her hand pointing at Nora and Ren, "Why don't you two get a room!"
Ruby smugly turned back around, Weiss smirking with her.
Weiss flew the lancer to the back of the bot to grab Ren and Qrow. Weiss tells them to jump on. They fly off as Nora is continuously hitting the left arm and Jaune rushes to Nora as Cordovin announces she's had enough.
"Jaune! Nora!" The two's friends yell.
The large hand smacks the two, sending the both of them flying along with breaking their auras.
The room goes cold as their friends aren't even able to stand.
Jaune and Nora struggle to get up and Ren shouts for his teammates. Whilst they were distracted, Cordovin blasted away the lancer. All of them land on the ground, but Ruby uses her semblance as she doesn't make it but even then it's not enough.
"Ruby!" It was time for all her friends to yell her name. Yang and Weiss feel like their hearts stopped.
Ruby stabs Crescent Rose into the cliff and holds onto her for dear life.
"Don't you touch her you ancient self-engrossed authoritarian windbag!" Weiss screamed. Ruby's eyes widened, whispering a sound of shock under her breath.
"Everyone's feisty today," Yang muttered to Blake. Not that she blamed anyone or that she was one to talk, but it seemed like everyone was pulling up their dictionary of insults right now.
"This is what happens when you think you know better than who's rightfully in charge." Oscar goes up to Maria and tells her they need to do something.
"You think?" Oscar said.
Maria flips up four pegs and flies down to save Ruby as Cordovin aims the cannon at her. Maria fires a missile, but Cordovin catches it in the hand.
All of them were shocked. It didn't explode? How?! They didn't she was able to do that! She probably knew the giant robot could do that, didn't she?
Cordovin turns around and faces the ship as it zips past her. She throws the missile and it explodes in front of the airship and it starts to go down. Everything has been turned to black but the sounds of blades clashed.
They were now about to watch the fight between Blake and Adam. Blake felt herself trembling, scared of the outcome.
Blake jumped back from some of Adam's attacks before both of their swords connected once more.
Yang's eyes roamed the screen, hoping to find her counterpart somewhere or just hear Bumblebee's engine. Yang wanted to do something, but she couldn't, she felt helpless for not being able to do anything.
Blake looked back as Wilt and Blush continued to swing. Gambol Shroud was turned to its gun form so Blake could throw it and bound from the trees. Adam quickly followed, "Can you do anything besides run?"
"Yes, she can!" Yang shouted.
Adam laughed under his breath after propelling himself off a tree. His sword was released as Blake threw her sword once more. The two blades collided, resulting in Blake grabbing onto a tree branch and swinging backward.
The room was holding their breath, Blake could do this, they believed in her.
Adam catches his sword and jumps into the air, slicing his sword. He breaks the piece connecting her white coat and flies off as Blake kicks him away. When she lands on the ground she proceeds to shoot at him.
For a singular moment as Yang watched Blake land on the ground, only one thought ran through her head, she's so beautiful. Yang then aggressively shook her head as she reminded(yelled) herself over and over again that now was most certainly not the time for that. Blake notices the red on Yang's cheeks and can then feel her own burning, telling herself too that this isn't the time.
Adam collects the energy from all of her shots, panting in anger as the two glare at one another. Blake leaps back and Adam chases her. The two have another stare-off before Adam rushes toward her.
The group was just as tense as Blake and Adam were while leering at each other.
Blake dodges Adam's firing with her semblance and Blake snatches Wilt from Adam and all Adam has is his gun.
All of them would normally be proud of one of their friends snagging a part of the opponent's weapon, but the fight wasn't over yet. Where am I?! Yang screams in her head.
Evading each of Adam's shots, Blake kicks him and blocks his strikes with the swords in her hands. Twisting in the air, she lands behind him and Adam is now up in her face. "I wouldn't have to be doing this if you'd just behave!" Adam shouts in her face.
Everyone's teeth grit at his words, their blood now starting to boil. Behave?!
Adam manages to grab his sword and knock Blake in the head with the hilt, leaving her on the ground from the impact.
All of them sat up straighter, eyes wide. This bastard!
"But you're selfish!"
"Selfish?!" All of them screamed. They had a feeling they were about to repeat every one of the words about to come out of his mouth.
Adam comes down with his sword, but Blake jumps in time only to be thrown back down.
Yang was gripping the couch, her knuckles turning white as she glared at the screen. She was almost shaking in her rage. Where was her counterpart?!
"You're a coward!" His blade came down again, sending her rolling again.
Blake felt that one hit closer to home, but she wouldn't run. Not now, not ever.
Blake stared up at him and spat, "You're delusional." Adam's sword pointed to the scar on Blake's hip.
Yang felt her own wave of guilt. A reminder to her that she wasn't able to protect Blake. Blake could sense this and cupped Yang's hand in her own. The Faunus gave her a look with a squeeze of her hand and Yang understood the message she was sending. She didn't need to say anything.
Adam raises Wilt and brings it down, though Blake brought up her own and Gambol Shroud's blade broke in half.
Blake stares at the screen, horrified as she watches the two pieces of Gambol Shroud.
Just as that happened, the bottom half of Bumblebee is speeding to get to Blake.
Yang lets out a breath of relief. Finally! Took you long enough. Everyone else was just as thankful.
Adam stood before Blake and removed the cloth covering his eyes. Blake's ears flatten in response. "People have hurt me long before we met. All sorts of people in all sorts of ways, but no one hurt me quite like you." Across Adam's face is branded with SDC.
The room erupted with gasps. Weiss's was the picture of horror as the realization began to slowly dawn on her. Her family created Adam, her family is the one responsible. Weiss felt like she was about to throw up, the feeling was rising in her stomach.
"My…my family…no, my father did this, he's the one responsible for this. But, he's my father, so by extension does that mean-"
" No," Ruby said sternly, "Don't think for a second that anything that happened to him was your fault. It might be under your name, but you are not one to blame." There was a part of Weiss that still felt disgusted, guilty that her name was the same as the person responsible.
"You didn't leave scars, you just left me alone." Blake's ear twitches at the sound of Yang's back as she gets closer. "So, tell me Blake, how does it feel to be alone?"
"I'm not alone," Blake declares.
With a cry, Adam brings down Wilt, stabbing Blake in the same spot as her scar.
All the students glare, they know Blake will use her semblance again.
The mirage of Blake fades as, near him, she grabs the sheath of Gambol Shroud. She stands tall, "I'm not alone." Yang rides off the cliff, with Bumblebee slamming into Adam. Bumblebee falls into the water as Yang lands next to Blake.
All of them burst into cheers as the vehicle rams into him. "Yang! Your bike!"
"It's okay, I'd sacrifice 1,000 Bumblebees if it meant you were safe," Yang tells her with the easiest smile. Blake stares at Yang in awed silence, knowing she won't be able to stop her entire face from going beet red.
"Yang…" Blake softly, not knowing what to say except muttering the woman's name. Blake felt her heart was so full that she almost couldn't take it. But, she didn't ever want the feeling to stop.
Adam was about to speak but a single shot from Yang shut him up. It was blocked, but her attention was given to Blake as she fell to one knee, holding her side. "It's okay, catch your breath for a second, I can hold him off."
"She's right, Blake, it's okay," Adam's sword glows red as he swings it, "We have…unfinished business."
Yang's fists clenched. They sure did.
Bring it on.
Adam rushed forward, swiftly slashing, but Yang had her arms up as her gauntlets were protecting her. Yang prepares her gauntlets as a spinning sword flies at her. She punches it into the ground and Adam takes hold of it, swinging attacks at Yang that push her back.
Yang's eyes are intensely focused on the screen, watching Adam's every move, memorizing them. If this is an event that comes to pass, she needs to remember each of his attacks and plan to avoid them.
Yang comes running forward, punching him over and over. She grabs him by the arm and elbows him in the stomach before kneeing him and punching him backward.
"Let's go, Yang!"
"That's my sister!"
Blake's face was worried as she watched.
Yang rapidly punched, but Adam absorbed the energy into his sword. She fires repeatedly however each bullet is caught in his blade. In flashes of red, he runs around her, releasing some of the energy, and pushing Yang closer to Blake. "His semblance is like yours, he absorbs energy through his sword, stores it up, and sends it back when he's ready."
"He gets to dish out damage without having to feel it? That's just cheap," Yang spat.
"He gets to dish out damage without having to feel it? That's just cheap," Yang huffs, looking back at the fight.
"Right? It's ridiculous!" Yang exclaims.
Yang launches forward, dodging his advances by using her gauntlets to propel her. Going from behind him to in front, she kicks him over and over in the stomach before being thrown back by the power of Adam's sword. Both Yang and Blake share a look, infuriating the man and he prepares to let out all the energy.
"Yang!" Blake's voice rattles as she screams.
"Yang, no!" Ruby cries out for her sister!
"Yang!" Blake looks at Yang with terror as the power comes crashing. A cloud of dust picks up that goes in the next second as Yang's mechanical arm is scratched. Yang is on the very edge, even some pebbles even falling into the water.
All let out breaths of relief, Ruby more so. Ruby feels like she's going to have a heart attack either in this or the next episode.
Yang lowers the arm and her eyes are still lilac.
Yang is remembering her dad's words. In the previous volume, her eyes turned red but she was able to control her semblance, and now in this…she's using it smartly.
"Leave us alone, this is your last chance," Yang demands as she and Blake stand side by side. Adam looks between the two, his hand falling to his sword. Adams sees Yang's hand trembling and he chuckles.
"Do you really believe that? Or are you just trying to scare me away so you won't have to die protecting her?"
Yang grabs hold of Blake's hand. "I'm not protecting her. And she isn't protecting me. We're protecting each other."
Blake squeezes Yang's hand, "And I wouldn't have it any other way."
Yang glares at Adam, taking a step forward. Blake takes Yang's shaking hand. "She's not protecting me, Adam, andI'mnotprotecting her. We're protecting each other."
Both Blake and Yang look over to Raider, wordlessly asking to move on to the next episode.
Were they not going to dive deeper into Yang's phrase about her bikes? Ruby and Nora ask themselves. Bumblebee is her pride and joy and to say she'd sacrifice 1,000 of them for Blake, they seriously weren't going to dive deeper into that?
