Anna's thoughts churned endlessly as she tried to make sense of her situation. Megatron's words had only solidified her resolve to escape, but they also painted a grim picture of his strategy. She wasn't just a prisoner—she was a pawn in a game far bigger than herself.
The rhythm of his steps abruptly changed, a slower, deliberate pace that hinted he had reached his destination. Her prison tilted slightly as Megatron came to a halt. The faint sound of voices carried through the faintly pulsating walls, muffled but distinct enough for her to recognize that he wasn't alone.
"Lord Megatron," came a familiar voice—Starscream. The sycophantic tone was unmistakable, dripping with false reverence. "You summoned me?"
"Yes, Starscream," Megatron replied, his voice laced with authority. "Preparations for our next move are underway, and I expect your complete cooperation."
"Of course, my liege," Starscream answered quickly, though there was a tinge of irritation in his voice. "Might I inquire as to the… nature of these preparations?"
Anna strained to listen, her breath hitching as she caught the faintest hints of their conversation. The mention of her as leverage still echoed in her mind, and she had no doubt that whatever they were planning, it didn't bode well for the Autobots—or for her.
"You needn't concern yourself with specifics," Megatron said dismissively, a note of finality in his tone. "Focus instead on ensuring your end of the operation proceeds without failure. I trust you can manage that much."
Starscream's scoff was barely audible but unmistakable to anyone who knew him. "As you command, Lord Megatron."
Anna clenched her fists, frustration and helplessness boiling over. She couldn't just sit there while the Decepticons schemed. Her heart raced as she pushed herself away from the wall, her eyes darting to the faint, dim glow of the nutrient packs Megatron had left for her. A plan began to form in her mind—desperate and dangerous, but it was better than doing nothing.
The conversation outside continued, the voices growing sharper as Starscream's curiosity got the better of him. "And what of the human?" he asked, a sly edge creeping into his tone. "Surely, you don't intend to… keep her indefinitely?"
"Her role in my plan is no concern of yours, Starscream," Megatron replied, his voice taking on a warning growl. "Suffice it to say, she is valuable—for now."
Anna froze at the exchange, her pulse quickening. The way Megatron spoke of her, so dismissive yet calculating, sent a chill down her spine. She was nothing more than a piece on his chessboard, a tool to be used and discarded when convenient.
"But, my lord," Starscream continued, his persistence risking Megatron's ire, "humans are fragile creatures. Surely even one such as she will not endure prolonged captivity within—"
"Enough!" Megatron barked, the force of his voice reverberating through Anna's confined space. "You will question my decisions no further. Now, leave me. Ensure the Vehicons are ready to move at a moment's notice."
"As you wish, Lord Megatron," Starscream replied, the reluctance in his voice clear.
The sound of retreating footsteps signaled Starscream's departure, but Anna had little time to process the exchange.
"Don't think I've forgotten about you, human," Megatron's voice rumbled suddenly, startling her. The walls seemed to tighten slightly around her, a deliberate reminder of her precarious position. "Your defiance, while amusing, will accomplish nothing."
Anna froze, her heart pounding. "I wasn't—"
"Silence," he commanded. "You are here because I allow it. Test my patience further, and you will find my mercy has limits."
The weight of his words crushed any retort she might have had, but it didn't extinguish the fire in her heart. She slumped against the wall, biting her lip to keep from crying out in frustration.
She could still hear the faint hum of Megatron's systems around her as his movements resumed. The heavy, rhythmic vibrations were a cruel reminder of her entrapment, each step carrying her deeper into the unknown. Yet even as despair threatened to consume her, Anna swore to herself that she wouldn't give up. No matter what, she would find a way out.
For now, though, she had to bide her time, wait for the right moment, and hope that the Autobots would come for her before it was too late.
