Chapter 22
Naruto and Shikamaru went and handed in the paperwork as they figured it would be best not to have all four go up there. With this Naruto and Shikamaru had a plan. With a slide of hand they stole two extra scrolls without anyone being the wiser to their plan.
Naruto smirks at Shikamaru. "It appears they have gotten too relax with other shinobi within our village." He told Shikamaru who nods his head in agreement as he slips the two scrolls he stole into his pouch. As Naruto sealed the two into his wrist without anyone noticing them.
"So what gate are we going to have to wait at?" Ino questions as she finishes braiding Usagi's hair as Usagi moves to braid Ino's hair.
"They said we are to be at Gate 50. By the sounds of it we are three gates away from Team 7." Naruto told them with a cheeky smirk.
"They we'll have to make sure they don't cross our path. As I don't want to deal with an entitled duck ass and banshee." Usagi said as she finished braiding Ino's hair. As it was something they began doing before missions. As it made it easier that no one can grab a handful of their hair when it's loose.
Sasuke and Sakura look over at their silent teammate, who seemed lost in his own thoughts. Sasuke's eyes narrowed slightly, wondering what was going through Shino's mind. 'If I didn't need him and this banshee loser, I would do this exam on my own.' He thought to himself.
Naruto, Ino, Shikamaru, and Usagi stood in front of Gate 50, their eyes fixed on the timer above. The numbers seemed to crawl at an agonizingly slow pace, each second stretching into eternity as the countdown to the exam start ticked closer. The atmosphere was thick with a mixture of anticipation and tension.
Ino shifted her weight from one foot to the other, her fingers drumming nervously against her kunai pouch. "I hate waiting," she muttered under her breath, her eyes never leaving the timer.
"Patience, Ino," Shikamaru said in his usual laid-back tone, though his eyes betrayed a keen focus. "It's all part of the plan. We need to stay composed."
Usagi nodded, her eyes sharp and vigilant. "Besides, the real challenge starts once that timer hits zero."
Naruto's smirk widened; his excitement barely contained. "Just think of it as calm before the storm. Once this starts, we'll show them what Team 10 is truly capable of."
As the final seconds ticked down, they all took a deep breath, readying themselves for the task ahead. The moment the timer reached zero, the gates creaked open, and the real test began.
Without a second thought, Team 10 dashed into the Forest of Death. The dense canopy swallowed them whole, casting eerie shadows and distorting the faint light that managed to penetrate through the thick foliage. The air was thick with the scent of earth and the distant rustle of hidden creatures.
Naruto took the lead, his senses heightened and his movements swift. Ino stayed close, her eyes scanning their surroundings, ready to relay any valuable information through her sensory abilities. Shikamaru, always the strategist, kept to the rear, his mind already mapping potential routes and escape plans. Usagi casts her eyes towards every shadow, as well to any movement that could indicate an enemy or one of the creatures that call the Forest of Death their home.
The forest was silent save for their synchronized footsteps and the occasional snap of a twig. The tension was palpable, each member of Team 10 was acutely aware that danger could strike at any moment. They moved with purpose, their training and camaraderie guiding them through the labyrinthine wilderness.
As they advanced deeper into the forest, the oppressive atmosphere seemed to close in around them. Ino's breath quickened, but she maintained her focus. "Remember, we need to find the scrolls and avoid unnecessary conflict," she reminded them in a hushed tone.
Naruto nodded, his determination unwavering. "Right. Let's stick to the plan and watch each other's backs."
The group pressed on, their senses on high alert. Every rustle, every shadow, could potentially be an adversary. The Forest of Death lived up to its name, but Team 10 was ready, their resolve steeled for whatever lay ahead.
Meanwhile, in another part of the Forest of Death, Sasuke, Sakura, and Shino were making their way through the dense undergrowth, their senses equally heightened and their movements cautious. Each step was calculated, every sound analyzed for potential threats. They believed themselves to be a formidable team, with only two member of the team bringing their own unique skills to the table.
Sasuke led the trio, his Sharingan activated and scanning the surroundings with precision. Sakura followed closely, thinking to herself that Sasuke will protect her. Shino, with his unparalleled control over insects, provided a layer of surveillance and protection that was invaluable in such treacherous terrain.
Suddenly, without warning, the air around them began to swirl violently. A powerful tornado-like wind erupted, its sheer force catching the team off guard. The winds whipped through the forest with a deafening roar, uprooting trees and sending debris flying in every direction. Each teammate was blasted apart from the others, the force of the wind too strong to resist.
"Sasuke!" Sakura shouted, her voice barely audible over the howling wind as she was thrown into the air, her body spinning uncontrollably before crashing through the underbrush.
Sasuke grit his teeth, his grip tightening on a branch as he struggled to fight against the gale, but it was futile. The wind tore him away, sending him hurtling in a different direction.
Shino remained silent, his insects buzzing frantically around him in a desperate attempt to shield him from the onslaught. The wind, however, was relentless, scattering him far from his teammates.
As the wind finally subsided, the forest fell into an eerie silence once more. Each member of the team found themselves alone, disoriented and separated by the violent storm. The exam had taken an unexpected turn, and now, they had to rely on their skills and determination to regroup and continue their quest.
Sasuke picked himself up, his eyes narrowing as he assessed his surroundings, scowling. "I now need to find those losers," he muttered to himself, anger flaring in his eyes. Sakura, not far away, has only one thought running through her mind, to find her Sasuke-kun. Shino, ever calm and collected, began to send out his insects to locate his comrades.
The Forest of Death had thrown yet another challenge their way, but Sasuke, Sakura, and Shino were undeterred. They would reunite, and together, they would face whatever dangers lay ahead.
The figure concealed in the shadows allowed a sinister smile to curl his lips. Orochimaru, the legendary Sannin, watched with predatory interest as the young ninjas struggled to regroup. His golden, slit-pupiled eyes gleamed with a malevolent curiosity.
"This is my chance to see what Sasuke is made of," he mused, his voice barely more than a whisper. The snakes coiled around his arms seemed to respond, their tongues flicking out as if tasting the air for fear.
Orochimaru's plan was unfolding perfectly. The chaos he had unleashed was intended to fracture their unity, to sow seeds of doubt and fear. He relished the thought of separating them from each other, to only watching their resolve waver in the face of his orchestrated trials.
Moving silently, Orochimaru glided through the dense underbrush, his movements eerily smooth and serpentine. The shadows seemed to embrace him, cloaking his presence from any prying eyes. His predatory gaze was fixed on one target: Sasuke Uchiha.
"This is it," he murmured, a wicked anticipation lacing his words. "Sasuke will become mine and mine alone."
He maneuvered through the forest with an uncanny ease, following the faint sounds and subtle disturbances left by the young ninja. Orochimaru's senses were honed to perfection, his every step calculated and precise. He relished the thought of capturing Sasuke, of molding the boy's exceptional talent to serve his own dark ambitions.
As he approached the glade where Sasuke had landed, Orochimaru's smile widened. The boy was vulnerable, still disoriented from the storm's violent assault. There would be no escape, no intervention from his teammates. This was the moment Orochimaru had been waiting for.
With a swift, silent motion, Orochimaru emerged from the shadows, his serpentine eyes locking onto Sasuke's determined form. "Your strength, your potential... it will all be mine," he whispered, his voice a venomous promise.
Sasuke sensed the presence behind him and turned, his Sharingan flaring to life. But Orochimaru was faster, his movements a blur as he closed the distance, his sinister intent clear.
The Forest of Death had set the stage for their confrontation, and now, only one would emerge victorious.
Orochimaru knew he would be the one emerging victoriously in the little match up. Sasuke will fall here today and embrace the gift he is so generously going to bestow on him today. The Forest of Death, with its oppressive darkness and whispering trees, seemed to conspire with him, amplifying his confidence.
With a flick of his wrist, the snakes around his arms slithered forward, their bodies undulating with lethal grace. Orochimaru's eyes glinted with a chilling certainty—he had seen many battles, and this would be no different. The young Uchiha had promise, but he was still green, still susceptible to the allure of power that Orochimaru wielded like a master artisan.
"Sasuke," he called out, his voice both a taunt and an invitation, "today, you will understand what true power feels like."
Sasuke, with his Sharingan blazing, stood his ground, his breaths coming in controlled, deliberate rhythm. He was ready to fight, ready to defend himself against the menace that was Orochimaru. But deep within, a seed of doubt had been planted—one that Orochimaru intended to nurture and exploit.
The battle began in an explosion of movement, both combatants darting in and out of shadows, their attacks swift and brutal. Orochimaru's strikes were precise, each one aimed to test Sasuke's limits, to push him further into the brink of desperation. And with each parry and counter, the elder ninja could feel the boy's resistance waning, his resolve cracking.
"You are strong, Sasuke," Orochimaru hissed, his voice caress of mock approval, "but strength alone will not save you."
With a final, decisive maneuver, Orochimaru wrapped his serpentine form around Sasuke, immobilizing him. The boy struggled, his eyes wide with a mixture of fear and defiance, but it was futile. Orochimaru's grip was unyielding, his power overwhelming.
"Accept it," Orochimaru whispered, his breath hot against Sasuke's ear, "accept the gift I offer, and you will achieve greatness beyond your wildest dreams."
Sasuke's struggle ceased, his body tense and trembling. The promise of power, the allure of vengeance…it was all too enticing. Orochimaru watched with satisfaction as the young ninja's eyes flickered with uncertainty, knowing that the seed he had planted was beginning to take root.
In that moment, amidst the silent trees of the Forest of Death, Orochimaru knew he had won. Sasuke would fall, not in body, but in spirit, and from his defeat, a new, darker alliance would be forged.
Orochimaru's golden eyes glimmer as they meet Sasuke's cold onyx eyes. "Now, Sasuke-kun. Allow me to bestow you my little gift. Without second thought Orochimaru bite down on Sasuke's neck.
A silent scream escapes his lips as his body goes limp, the snakes only holding him up. Orochimaru chuckles darkly, his voice resonating with malevolent satisfaction.
"That's it, Sasuke," he murmured, his tone dripping with triumph. "Embrace the darkness, and it will embrace you in return."
As Sasuke's vision began to blur, the pain intertwining with the intoxicating promise of power, a new chapter in his life unfurled—a chapter written in shadows and blood.
Ino and Usagi's heads snap up as they felt a chakra that doesn't feel right to them. It is way too powerful for those within the Forest of Death. "Naruto….." Ino softly spoke up, making her team stop in their tracks. Quietly stopping upon one of the large branches they had landed upon, Naruto nods his head for Ino to go on as Shikamaru and Usagi watch silently. "Something doesn't feel right. There is a chakra within this forest that isn't Genin level. It's even higher than Jonin," she told him.
Naruto's eyes narrowed, his usually bright demeanor darkening with concern. "Do you think it's Orochimaru?" he asked, his voice barely whisper.
Ino nodded. "It has to be. No one else could have such formidable chakra."
A chill passed through the group as they processed this information. Orochimaru, the man who had terrorized their village with his experiments and random kidnappings, was somewhere close. The realization sent a surge of adrenaline through their veins, sharpening their senses and heightening their awareness.
"We need to find Sasuke," Naruto declared with determination. "If Orochimaru is here, he might be after him."
With a silent agreement, the team moved swiftly through the treetops, their movements synchronized and stealthy. The forest seemed to close in around them, each shadow a potential threat, each rustle of leaves a harbinger of danger. As they neared the source of the overwhelming chakra, the air grew heavy with malice and anticipation.
Finally, they reached a clearing, and there, amidst the twisted roots and ancient trees, they saw him—Orochimaru, with Sasuke collapsed at his feet. The sight made Naruto's blood boil with rage, but he forced himself to stay calm, knowing that any reckless action could cost them dearly.
"We need a plan," Shikamaru whispered, his keen mind already working through possible strategies. "We can't take him head-on. We need to be smart about this."
Naruto nodded, his resolve hardening. "Whatever it takes, we have to save Sasuke."
As they prepared to confront one of the most dangerous enemies they had ever faced, the weight of their exam settled over them. This battle was not just about rescuing a comrade; it was a test of their strength, their unity, and their will to protect those they cared about. And in the heart of the Forest of Death, their true mettle would be revealed.
Plan in mind, Naruto nodded his head to Shikamaru. As he goes through the necessary signs for his Shadow Possessions Jutsu. The inky black shadow moves through the forest floor over the overgrown roots, towards its target.
Orochimaru marveled at his gift that he had left upon Sasuke's neck. The cursed mark pulsated with sinister energy, a testament to his dark prowess. Just as Orochimaru relished in his handiwork, he felt an unfamiliar sensation creeping through his body. His limbs grew heavy, and a cold realization dawned upon him—he couldn't move. The more he struggled, the harder it became to even twitch a finger.
"What is this?" Orochimaru hissed, his eyes darting around, searching for the source of this paralysis. The answer soon became clear as he spotted the shadow linking him to the boy with the cunning eyes—Shikamaru.
Naruto, seeing Orochimaru's moment of weakness, felt his heart race with a mix of hope and urgency. This was their chance.
"Now!" Shikamaru urged, his voice strained from the effort of maintaining his jutsu.
With a fierce battle cry, Naruto and his team launched into action, ready to save Sasuke and end Orochimaru's reign of terror for the last time.
A sword appeared from the seal on Naruto's right wrist, sliding into his hand as if it naturally belonged there. Its blade gleamed with a fierce light, reflecting Naruto's unyielding determination. With a swift, practiced motion, he pointed the sword at Orochimaru, his eyes blazing with resolve.
I'm leaving off here.
