32 Weeks

It was a hot day in late July Laura was getting ready for her baby shower. She had a cute light blue dress on along with a blue headband as her weave gave her shoulder length hair with a few braids, and cute cream colored flats on. Because at thirty-two weeks, if she there was a time she didn't need to wear heals she was not going to wear them. Her feet would have been swollen and hurting by end of the day. Of course she didn't mind Steve's amazing foot rubs but today was a day just to relax and have fun with all her favorite girls. Her new friend, Heather, was coming as she and Laura were becoming close since Steve and Heather's fiance, Kevin wee friends. Then the Urkel clan of Aunt Oona, Aunt Muriel, and Aunt Julie, along with Myrtle were all showing up. Aunt Rachel flew in a week before. Of course Richie came along but he was hanging out with the guys today. Then there were a few friends from high school Laura reconnected with and some of her sorority sisters she never lost touch with. Then her boss Wendy Parks and few other lawyers, paralegals, and legal assistants Laura as close to also were invited. Also quite a bit of women from the Polka community were going to be there. And of course Harriette and Maxine were hosting the baby shower.

In some small hope she had wish Roberta would be there but Steve was no longer on speaking terms with his parents. Which broke Laura's heart because Steve was down and upset, even lost a bit of his confidence in himself, for weeks. But of course Laura was there for him and finally convinced him to see a therapist. In the end Steve was happy he did because his confidence back.

As Laura was putting the final touches of her makeup on, Steve walked in wearing a green laced up shirt, and brown breeches . He also wore a brown buttoned up sleevles vest and laced up boots. "Wow! I sure did marry the most beautiful woman!" He could not help but display is goofy smile.

Laura turned around to see and rolled her eyes with a smile. "Thanks Babes... Now I can see you going to the renaissance fair now I see you in this cstume with Kevin. Kinda reminds me when we did the Romeo and Juliet. But how did you convince my dad, Eddie, 3J, and Richie to come also?" She kept staring at his outfit.

He came up behind her as she was sitting in her vanity chair and wrapped his arms around her shoulders. "I begged until they caved... plus I told them there was going to be jousting tournaments and sword fighting. I'm just excited to taste some of the aged cheese."

Laura smiled as she nodded and shrugged her shoulders. "Well you can't go wrong there. I'm gonna love seeing Eddie dressed up. It's gonna be hilarious, plus he owes you so I'm gald you are gonna have a fun guys day." She smiled even bigger as Steve kissed her cheek and his hands moved to her pregnant belly.

"Thank you my lovley lady, and I know I'm going to have a blast. But I can not wait to come home to see you and see what you and our little prince got today. I'm just getting more excited because he'll be here in exactly eight weeks. Our dream of becoming parents is coming closer and closer." Steve then leaned in a little more over and kissed her lips firmly but with passion and love.

"Mmmm... Steve Urkel if ya gonna kiss me like that I'm not going to make to the baby shower and you'll miss all the fun at the renaissance." Laura was half teasing him and yet half serious because well they just found a new position in bed that was comfortable enough for her and enjoyable for both of them.

"Tonight my Sweetums, tonight..." He teased back wiggling his eyebrows as he flirted with his wife as he began to kiss her neck.

A little while later, the baby shower was in full swing. There was a table full of good food for a brunch and then there was a table of food just specifically for the Urkel side of the family. Myrtle won the competitive baby games of course. Then there was coloring pages for everyone to color to make a homemade alphabet book. Of course there were pages that incorporated Steve, A was for accordion, B for bugs, C for cheese, I for inventions, and S for Science. Someone even incorporated Laura, as L is for Lawyer. Laura was pretty sure her boss and co-workers made that page. Then as the day was dwindling down Laura began to open gifts. She knew which ones were from the Urkel side of the family because they were interesting and definitely unusual. They even brought a painted portrait from Uncle Cecil that he sneezed paint onto. Of course there were tons of cute gifts also. Heather got her a onsie that Laura loved, which said, 'My dad is a genius, just look at my mom.' Berta and Helga from the polka community gifted Laura with a few baby Lederhosen outfits. At the end Myrtle gave Laura a gift and a letter from Roberta that Herb had no clue she did this. Laura was not sure what to do, but took it anyways and would let Steve read the letter before opening Roberta's gift.

Laura arrived at her apartment after leaving the polka hall as she rented it out for the baby shower. Her mom, Max, Rachel, and Heather helped her all bring the stuff in. She put Roberta's note and gift on her bed and would wait for Steve to get home. "So what do you think your lovely mother-in-law has to say?" Max asked as everyone knew their situation woth Steve's parents, as they began to baby stuff away.

"If I'm being truly honest, I have no clue. She is not exactly my favorite person. I'm just worried how Steve is going to react." Laura sighed as she was folding new outfits for her unborn son as she was sitting in her glider.

"Well Laura, just let Steve know your dad and I are here for him." Harriette pipped in knowing all those years of heartbreak from his own parents always made her have a soft spot for Steve Urkel. He deserved so much more but was happy she was the mother he needed when his own did not show him the love he needed.

"He knows that Mom, and he is happy to have you guys, Steve is very grateful. I am too. If they just knew the man he has come into maybe they would change but I think Steve is really done with them. And I am too if I am being honest. They disrespected me and our baby, sonthat bridge is burnt to the ground. I will let him decide of he reads that letter or not and if accepts Roberta's gift." Laura was honest and wish things were easier with Steve's parents.

Rachel and Heather nudged each other seeing Laura wanted to change the subject. So Rachel picked up an outfit. "Anyways look how cute this little gentleman's outfit is. The little navy blue newsboys hat, plus the suspenders and bowtie. Get rid of the hat and your son is already a mini Steve Urkel..." They all laughed as Laura could only think how their son would look like more. She always thought Steve was cute unique way. But after he started to improving himself into Steve Utkel the man, he became very sexy. Probably even more once he holds their son for the first time and is seen as the daddy of their baby.

Once everything was put away and the girls left except Heather as Kevin drove Steve and the rest of the guys to the renascence fair. Heather and Laura were just enjoying themselves in the living just chatting away about life and having some laughs, when finally their men walked theough the door. Steve and Kevin talked about how one guy flew in the aire off his horse after being jost. And how Carl, Eddie, 3J, and Richie were all surprised as they all had a good time.

After Heather and Kevin left, Laura suggested for her and Steve go for a walk. "But my spunky ladybug, aren't you tired from a long day." He asked as he was already sitting beside her, holding her in his arms.

"Yeah, but not too tired. Plus I have missed our Saturday evening walks. Doesn't has to be a long walk just nice evening around our neighborhood with my husband." Laura said with a smile as she leaned in and kissed him on the cheek.

"Say no more Sweetums. If its a walk you want its walk we shall take." Steve helped her sit up a little bit as he got off the sofa and then held out his hand. Laura took it as he helped her get up.

They took the elevator down to the lobby from their fourth floor apartment and headed outdoors. It was a warm evening as it was still daylight out but not too uncomfortable. They took a short walk as they ended up at the park only two blocks away from their home. They found a bench and relaxed for awhile. Steve put his arm around Laura's shoulder as she laid her head on his. "You know next summer we will probably be at this park a lot pushing our little boy on the baby swing." Steve smiled as he was looking forward to this future with his wife and baby.

"Life sure is going to be different. In a good way of course." Laura stated as she brought her head back up to meet Steve's face. "Hey, I have something to tell ya. I'm leaving it up to you because I feel like its not my place." Her lips were then pursed and held a slight frown.

Steve felt his jaw tense as he could feel something was about to be said that he was not sure to hear. But gave her a nervous smile as his eyes crinkled. "What is it Laura Lee?"

"Before the baby shower was over Myrtle came up to me and handed me a small gift and an envelope. Its from Roberta. Now look I didn't open the gift or read the letter since it was addressed to you. Myrtle even told me Herb had no clue that your mom even sent a gift or even wrote you. Steve if you want to read the letter and want me to open the gift we will, if not we will just send them back to Myrtle before she leaves tomorrow. It's your decision Babes, you know I have your back mno matter what you choose." She then squeezed his hand and looked at him with her free hand on his cheek.

Steve knew he was right. He did not want to hear what came out of his wife. He also knew she had to tell him. His heart felt like it was beating a hundred miles a minute and his brain was going through a million sceneries at once. Finally Steve looked back at his wife and was sure he knew what to say. "I'll read the letter but then I will make the decision if we should open the gift. I am just to curious what she has to say. But the letter and gift will go straight to the trash if she says anything disrespecting you and or our child."

"Okay." Laura gave a simple response back and leaned in and gave her husband a small light kiss on the lips. Steve smiled as he sighed into her kiss. He never how she could do it but her little loving gestures always made things a little bit better.
