Since the morning when Viney was late with Amityʼs painkillers, Luz took that as her personal mission to ensure her fiancée's well-being. It had just been a day, but everything seemed long forgotten. The hurt woman was just glad to wake up in the human's embrace the following morning and fall asleep in the evening.
Luz knew juggling helping Amity and her school work would be challenging, but she was determined. If it came to worst, she had already made up her mind that she would put her studies on hold. Her fiancée's health was of the utmost importance to her, and everything else looked bleak.
Just like her life with no Amity in it.
"No way you did that," The witch giggled when Luz finished telling her about her day.
"You really doubt me, Blight?" The human teased, "You should know me better by now. I trained Puddles to sneakily bite people I donʼt like back in High School," She added, and they both laughed.
"Alright, alright," Amity giggled.
Despite still being in pain, the witch enjoyed the time when she could just talk to Luz. They were about to start another topic when Danielle entered the room with the food tray. Amity faced her mother, her ears slanted, and she smiled widely in appreciation.
"I hope you guys are hungry," The woman greeted them with a content smile.
Danielle eyed Amity and was relieved to see the young witch so relaxed again. The witch looked so much better despite the pain that kept her on edge most of the time, and her nails lengthened whenever she was not sleeping in Luz's embrace.
"Oh, shit," Luz exclaimed, "Iʼm so sorry, Dani. I didn't see the time," She admitted, and the older woman smiled at her.
"It's okay, Cariño. I'm just happy you made Amity laugh," She added, and the witch's ears slanted in shame. Amity still could not get used to being important to someone, "I've got Kraken soup for you, Mija, and empanadas for you, Luz," Danielle explained.
The young stomachs growled loudly, and the doctor smiled at the women's embarrassed expressions. The older human retrieved a small table and placed it above the witchʼs hips, respecting the Heiress's desire to be self-sufficient.
"Oh, yes! Empanadas!" Luz exclaimed, retrieving a plate. She paused with a mouth wide open when she realized Amity was smiling at her.
"Go ahead. I might need a while, so don't wait up," The witch said, watching her fiancée dig in with the fervor of a slitherbeast while her mother set up her small table.
"There you go, Cariño," Danielle smiled, pulling close a stool to sit beside her daughter.
"Thank you, Mamá," Amity whispered, giving the older woman a look of gratitude that melted Danielle's heart.
"No need to thank me, Mija," The doctor whispered, blushing slightly. She was still getting used to the idea of having an adoptive, grown-up daughter, "Eat up," She added, and the witch complied.
"Fucking Titan," Luz huffed under her breath, munching her food like a starved beast, "Iʼm sorry," She mumbled with her mouth full when she noticed how the other women stared at her, "I haven't eaten empanadas since the day before…" She paused, suddenly saddening, making Amity and Danielle share a worried look, realizing Luz had not eaten this meal since Camila's death.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know…" The older woman whispered.
"Oh, donʼt apologize, Dani," Luz smiled warmly through her heartbreak, "I love them. You really cook just as good as Mamá," She explained and continued her meal.
"Well, she taught me," The doctor admitted sheepishly, tucking a strand of curly hair behind her ear, "Iʼm glad you like it. All things considered," She added.
It took Danielle another moment to realize that Amity was slowly eating her soup. The witch had to stabilize her hold by holding her wrist with the other hand, but she was determined to feed herself. Luz and Danielle knew better than to offer help unless the Heiress specifically asked for it.
"Dammit!" Amity suddenly hissed, letting the spoon rest in the bowl, getting the humans' attention. She wiggled her fingers and grabbed the spoon again, "Fuck," She groaned, and the cutlery fell onto the small table.
Luz and Danielle exchanged another knowing look, unsure how to proceed. Amity tried to grab the spoon once again, but her body was uncooperative. Her ears slanted in shame, and her fiancée noticed tears gathering in her eyes.
"Baby, do you…?" Luz hesitated.
Amity looked away and sniffed slightly. The pointy ears twitched nervously, and the lavender head nodded. The witch did not expect to feel a sudden warmth on her hand. She faced the humans and realized Danielle held her hand, smiling warmly.
"It's okay, Cariño," The doctor whispered, "You don't have to be strong all the time. Let me help," She added. Once Amity did not object, she retrieved the spoon and a soup-filled bowl, "We all know how difficult it is to ignore our pride…" She continued as the witch accepted the help, "But don't forget you are not alone," She added, and she was glad Amity allowed her to feed her.
"Not anymore, anyway," A sudden, feminine voice echoed in the room, startling everyone.
Amity swallowed the last spoonful hard, glad she did not choke. The green-haired Healer entered the room, smiling warmly. Luz and Danielle exchanged looks, knowing how Emira dreaded the moment she had to visit her younger sister.
"Em…" Amity gasped. Her golden eyes filled with tears of joy, "Titan, it's so good to see you," She added, and the Healer could not help herself. She approached her sister quickly and pulled her into a warm embrace.
"Amity, I'm so sorry," Emira whispered into a hug, "I didn't mean to avoid you…"
"Shut up, dumbass," Amity giggled, "Iʼm just glad you're here," She added, and the sisters continued the embrace.
"How do you feel?" Emira asked once they parted. She cupped the starved face, looking intensely at the new marking, "Titan, I'm sorry we couldn't fix you better," She bit her lip anxiously.
Amity removed her sister's hands from her face, flushed with self-consciousness. The Healer sat on the armrest of Luz's armchair. The three women looked at the Heiress, who still could not believe she was lucky enough to have people care for her.
"I'm good, Em," Amity replied, resting her head on the pillow and ignoring her self-consciousness for now, "I mean, I don't know if you ask as a Healer or a sister?" She added, smiling widely and showing off her fangs. Emira giggled, realizing that her sister had a valid point.
"As both, I guess. Viney told me about the painkiller incident," The Healer paused, and her expression faded, "Please don't be angry with her. She didn't sleep for three days, and the Healing Coven was questioning her half of the night about the attack on you…"
"Em," Amity interrupted, "You don't have to explain," She smiled at her sister, "You guys run the biggest Clinic in the Boiling Isles. Just last year, it was only the two of you and a few Nurses," She pointed out. Luz thought back to their first visits when the corridors were mostly empty, "It was an accident," She continued, "Besides," The Heiress smiled teasingly, "Now I have the best Volunteer in Bonesborough to look after me," She added, and Luz snorted at that. Emira looked at her sister dumbfoundedly.
"So you really remember everything?" The Healer could not believe it.
"Everything, Em," Amity winked at her sister, who suddenly blushed fervently.
"Ohhhhhh, I gotta know," Luz grinned widely, loving the Healer's embarrassed expression.
"Nothing to know!" Emira stood up as if something burned her, "Shut up!" She looked at Amityʼs teasing grin, "I have a Clinic to run!" She excused herself and practically ran out of the room, leaving two shocked humans and one giggling sister behind.
"I walked in on her and Viney when I was younger," Amity explained, and the humans joined her laughter, "I guess not everyone's as happy as you that I unblocked all of my memories," She added, closing her eyes, and releasing a long, relaxing exhale.
"Amity?" Luz asked worriedly, seeing her fiancée's expression fading.
"Just tired…" Amity explained weakly. She was dead asleep before she could say anything else.
"It's okay, Luz," Danielle tried to calm her ward, "She had just begun to eat. Her body's working overtime to digest and regain health," She explained, and Luz nodded.
They watched Amity sleep for a moment longer before Danielle decided it was time to clean up after dinner. Luz used this moment to study for her classes tomorrow, refusing to leave the witchʼs side any longer than necessary.
Another day had passed. Willow could not avoid her friend anymore. Hunter took hold of his girlfriend's hand reassuringly, smiled at her, and helped as much as possible. They walked into the Clinic together, taking advantage of the day when Luz was stuck in classes.
"I'll wait in the Gym," Hunter said. He pecked the crown of Willow's head, and his girlfriend nodded reluctantly.
"Thanks, Hunter," She replied, letting go of his hand.
Willow gulped when she reached Amity's room. Her ears slanted, and she did not know what to tell her friend. A delicate chuckle from behind the closed door made the short witch finally enter.
Willow pushed the door, entering the room, and she was shocked to find Amity and Danielle laughing at something. The bedridden witch's expression faded into a look filled with longing when she noticed her best friend.
"Willow," Amity whispered, smiling softly, "Took you long enough," She teased, smirking at Willow.
"I'll let you two talk," Danielle said when she noticed how scared Willow looked.
"Please rest, Mamá," Amity pleaded, shocking the other witch with how she addressed the older woman, "Luz will be here in a few hours, and you need to live your life, too," She added, smiling warmly at the doctor.
"Alright, alright. But I'll be back in the morning, Cariño," Danielle agreed.
She leaned toward the hurt body, hugged her daughter, and pecked the lavender temple before approaching the threshold. The doctor turned around, facing the hurt witch, and her expression saddened.
"Caw me if you need me," Danielle said when she stopped by the door, hesitant to leave.
"Say hi to Eda from me," Amity replied with a smirk.
Danielle left without any further comment, fighting her blush away. The Heiress cackled, and Willow could not believe what she was witnessing. Despite being in pain, Amity acted optimistically.
"She looks like her old self," The short witch thought in disbelief.
"Are you gonna stand there all day, gawking at me?" Amityʼs question pulled her friend from her stupor.
"S-sorry…" Willow replied, reluctantly sitting in the wide armchair, "I haven't seen you in a while and…" She looked away, trying to disguise her tears, "You look different," She added.
Amity noticed her friend's expression. The slanted ears, nervous gaze averting her eyes, fidgeting with her hands. The thick brows tied on the pale face as she tried to understand what was happening.
"Come on, Willow," Amity broke the unbearable silence, "Talk to me. You've been avoiding this visit for so long… What's going on?" She asked.
Amity's voice was filled with so much worry that her friend could not ignore her pleas anymore. Willow looked back at the hurt witch, took a deep breath, and decided to be honest.
"Listen, Amity…" The green eyes connected with the golden ones, "There's something I need to tell you…"
"Is it about your mission?" Amity asked, and her friend stiffened in fear, "Don't worry. Luz didn't tell me anything. She warned me that it was the reason you had… Trouble visiting me," She explained, and the other woman scoffed.
"Luz has a talent for putting things mildly," Willow chuckled nervously, "But it's true," She admitted.
"Then talk to me," Amity proposed with a smile, "It's not like I'm going anywhere," She added, grinning widely.
"Well…" Willow exhaled heavily, "I need to tell you of the day I killed you," She added.
Amity froze for a moment. She was prepared to hear a lot but did not expect that. Willow talked. She was hesitant initially, but the shorter witch's speech increased in speed with each passing moment. Soon, she was throwing up word vomit, pacing across the room, feeling relieved to tell her secret finally.
"And I couldn't…" Willow froze in the middle of the room, "Whenever I looked at you, barely moving, stuck in bed, I… I…" The green eyes filled up with tears.
Amity winced in discomfort, and despite her nerves screaming at her to rest, she slowly stood up. The pale body wobbled, but the Heiress forced her legs to move. Willow froze, not knowing what was happening. Before she could have asked, her stiff body was pulled into a heartwarming embrace.
"It's okay, Will," Amity whispered, clenching her fists on the back of her friend's yellow jacket, "Iʼm sorry you had to go through with it, but I understand why you avoided me," She added.
Willow hesitantly returned the hug but was still too confused to function. THE Amity Blight was hugging her. A lot has happened since they started talking again last year, but hugging was not one of them.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to abandon you," Willow whispered. She returned the hug with the full force.
"It's okay," Amity repeated.
Suddenly, the Heiress's hug turned more into holding for dear life. Willow noticed how her friend was losing her strength. It did not take long for the taller witch to be looked at from above.
"Wow, Blight!" Willow exclaimed worriedly, "Are you okay?" She asked, realizing her friend was barely standing.
"I…" Amity gasped, "I haven't left the bed since I was attacked," She explained, and her legs buckled underneath.
"Dang it, Blight," Willow whispered. She grabbed her friend in a bride-like embrace and helped her to bed, "Youʼre lucky I don't have some weak nerd arms," She relaxed when she heard Amity giggle at the comment.
"Don't let Luz hear you say that," The hurt witch whispered, grinning weakly, "I happen to love her weak nerd arms," She added, relaxing when she felt the mattress underneath her body, "But dang, you got strong," She said with awe. Willow scoffed, shaking her head in disbelief.
"You need to get strong too, Ami," Willow offered a smile, sitting back in the armchair, "I know your life was shit, and the last year was the apogee of it, but good things are waiting ahead," She added.
"Yeah," Amity smiled, closing her eyes. She tried to relax, pushing her discomfort aside, "I know… If all goes well, I may be cleared for the Healing Spell tonight," She added.
"What do you mean?" Willow asked, not understanding what her friend had in mind.
"Viney could not heal me entirely after the attack because of my strained bile sac. I was too weak to go through the Healing Spell," Amity explained, opening her eyes and smiling weakly at her friend, "Between us, I think she was too scared of me dying again," She added, and her faux optimism had faded.
"So how did that end?" Willows asked hesitantly, afraid she was crossing a boundary.
"Well," Amity sighed, sitting in bed again, "She healed my lung as much as it was safe for her to do so. It's not bleeding anymore, but the breathing is not easy," She explained, "On top of that, I was in no shape to fix the ribs the knife went through," She added and suddenly looked aside, her expression saddening, "I was lucky I survived, wasn't I?" She asked, looking back at Willow.
"From where I stood," The shorter witch said, "It looked like you were done for," Willow admitted and was shocked to hear Amity scoff.
"Thank Titan for Danielle, huh?" The Heiress asked, hiding behind humor.
"Yeah… Thank Titan for your mother to keep you safe," Willow teased.
"Shut up…" Amity muttered, embarrassed of her feelings, "Is that weird I consider her my mother? Like the real one? It feels weird but so right at the same time…"
"Amity," Willow interrupted, snapping her friend from her pit of self-doubt, "It's weird that you're doubting your feelings," She said, "You have been unconscious for the past month or so, so you don't know that Danielle was here with you all the time. She was with you when Odalia's spell hit you, when you were recovering, when you died, and when you were brought back," She explained, and Amity looked at her warmly.
"It does feel right," The hurt witch agreed, closing her eyes, smiling contently.
Amity's ears relaxed, and her expression faded. It did not take long for Willow to understand that her friend fell asleep, exhausted from their emotionally draining interaction. The shorter witch corrected her glasses, slouched a little, and watched the sleeping woman until Luz returned from the Academy.
Another day passed until Viney and Emira were certain Amity would be strong enough to go through the Healing Spell without endangering her body. They decided to prepare the Operating Room in the afternoon to ensure Luz would be present.
"How do you feel?" The human asked, hovering above her fiancée. Ghost sat on Luz's shoulder, meowing worriedly.
"Anxious to get out of here," Amity smiled mischievously.
Viney stopped the gurney before entering the OR, and she nodded at her sister-in-law. The hurt witch grabbed her fiancée's hand. The pointy ears slanted anxiously. Suddenly, Danielle approached them, and Amity smiled at her mother.
"I'll be right here, Baby," Luz whispered reassuringly, slightly squeezing the pale hand.
"I'll make sure she won't get in trouble," Danielle said.
"Thank you, Mamá," Amity whispered before looking back at Luz, "I'll be right back. I'm in good hands," She said, trying to feign confidence. Then she smiled at her Palisman, "Take care of them, girl," She received a tiny meow of agreement.
"Time to go, Mittens," Emira approached her sister.
"Let's do it," Amity agreed, exhaling nervously.
Viney pushed the gurney into the room. The golden eyes watched her fiancée disappear in the distance and soon behind the closed door. Amity did not realize she was being moved to the Operating Table until she saw she had been turned into a more vertical position.
"I see you have changed some procedures," The hurt woman noted, "No more family members during the Healing Spell?" She asked with a smirk.
"Yeah, the Healing Coven got onto us," Viney admitted, chuckling bitterly, "We were to either follow the rules or close the Clinic," She explained, preparing her patient.
"Ouch, that's rough," Amity noted, "Is that why Emira is so stressed all the time?" She asked worriedly, and the brunette nodded.
"Sheʼs still getting the hang of running this place. She'll get better," Viney said before she looked at her sister-in-law, "Ready?"
"As I'll ever be," Amity replied with a smile.
"Okay," Viney exhaled nervously, "I will apply the spell to your lung. Let me know if you feel any strain in your bile sac…"
"Viney, relax," Amity smiled, "Youʼre a great Healer. Stop doubting yourself," She said, "But it may be wise to restrain my wrists. I wouldn't want to scratch you accidentally," She added, and Viney smiled.
"Thanks," The Healer said, strapping her patient to the table, "Now, try to relax," She added, drawing a bright blue spell circle.
"Shit," Amity hissed when she felt the spell enter her chest, "Hah! That's gonna hurt," She chuckled grimly before wincing in discomfort.
The lengthened nails scratched the Operating Table, and Amity whimpered in pain. Her chest expanded painfully, and Viney frowned in concentration. Her green eyes were overtaken by the cyan light of the Healing Spell as she incrementally increased the power she put into it.
The Healer concentrated on Amity's lung. Slowly, bronchitis by bronchitis, she repaired what she could not heal before. Viney tried to ignore how her sister-in-law whimpered, groaned, and grunted in discomfort, slightly arching her back.
Amity's breathing increased. It was getting more challenging to metabolize the oxygen. She could feel the dull pounding in the center of her chest. The witch could not understand what was happening, but something was wrong.
"Vi…" Amity gasped, struggling to breathe. She pulled on her restraints and arched her back, "Viney," She tried to speak a little louder.
"I know, Amity," The Healer replied, "It's uncomfortable, but you're still safe," She informed her, "Just breathe," She added.
"H-hurts," Amity whimpered. Her voice quivered.
"I know," Viney affirmed but did not stop the spell, "Should I continue?" She asked worriedly.
"Y-yeah," Amity huffed with strain in her voice, "Ignore me…" She chuckled through pain, "I really want to be better finally," She explained, and the Healer nodded in understanding.
"Very well," Viney agreed and tied her brows in concentration.
Amity grunted, clenching her eyes and breathing heavily. She could have sworn that she felt how her lung was reconstructed, making her huffing and whimpering easier. Viney changed the spell, adjusting it to the tissue she was about to repair, and her sister-in-law yelled in agony, arching her back, tugging against the restraints.
"This is going to be a long night…" Viney thought, glancing at her patient.
Danielle pulled Luz to the waiting room, which was not too far from the OR. The young brunette was restless. She tried to sit and wait but ended up pacing the room and irritating other people. After an hour or so, Emira came over to check in on them.
"Do you want to eat something?" The Healer asked worriedly, watching Luz fidget nervously.
"I'm not hungry," The young human replied, staring blankly at the floor.
Danielle shared a look with Emira. They knew it was not easy for either of them, but the young human was on the brink of going crazy with worry.
"Shut up," Luz whispered under her breath.
"Are they worried, too?" Danielle understood that the Owl Demon must have constantly chatted with her ward.
Luz nodded nervously. Emira sighed and suddenly smirked. She hoped the idea of distracting her future sister-in-law would work.
"So…" The Healer smiled wickedly, "I noticed no goodbye kiss, huh?" She leaned on the younger human teasingly.
Luz suddenly stopped fidgeting and looked away, tying her brows.
"Um…" She hesitated, and the other women realized it was not an easy topic. "She's still getting used to the touch," Luz said, looking back at Emira. Iʼm not gonna push her, you know," she added. The look in her eyes was challenging.
"Luz, Cariño," Danielle interrupted, "No one suggested that you would push her," She explained.
"I was just teasing, sorry," Emira looked away, "I hoped to distract you…"
"Well, it worked!" Luz exclaimed with frustration, "Iʼm sorry," She sighed heavily, calming herself down.
"I know it cannot be easy," Emira saddened too, "Not being able to hold the person you care so much about must be excruciating," She added.
"Remember that you are both safe now," Danielle added, smiling warmly. Luz nodded in understanding, fighting her tears away, "Youʼre at the end of the tunnel, but healing takes time," She added.
"Exactly," Emira agreed, smiling knowingly at the doctor, "Once Amity is healed and her pain is manageable, she can be released to her studio," She explained, and Luz nodded. She had conflicted feelings about that prospect.
"We wanted to talk about this with you after the operation, um, Healing Spell," Danielle said, "But it would seem you can use a distraction. Eda and I talked with Viney and Em…" Luz looked up dumbfoundedly.
"If Amity would be okay with that," Emira said with a smile, getting the young brunette's attention, "We wouldn't mind having another person to live with," She added.
Luz froze, and her mouth fell open. She was not entirely sure if she had heard Emira right. The hazel-brown eyes were immobile, confused by her emotions. She wanted to say something but ended up closing and opening her mouth like a fish.
"You were supposed to distract her, not break her," Eda snorted at her daughter, joining the other women in the waiting area, "Kid?" She touched Luz's shoulder.
"Huh?" The hazel-brown eyes roamed the pale face, "Ohhhhhh," Luz suddenly smirked, "You want the place for the two of you, huh?" She teased, and both Eda and Danielle blushed fervently.
"Do not!" Eda exclaimed.
"Do too," Luz giggled.
Emira snorted at their antics. She was glad her plan worked. For a moment or so, Luz forgot about Amity's situation. That was until Viney came into the waiting area. She looked pale and exhausted but smiled when she noticed everyone looking at her.
"Sheʼs gonna be fine. We're just taking a short break," Viney said softly before looking up at Luz, "I finished repairing her lung, and we're still ahead of repairing her ribs. She asked me to let you know that everything's okay…"
"I thought the OR was covered with witches' wool," Luz asked in shock. She was surprised that Emira and Viney snorted at her.
"She doesn't need to feel your Bond to know how nervous you are," Emira said, and her wife nodded in confirmation.
"Try to relax. It's gonna be a few more hours before we're done," The Healer explained, and everyone nodded, not saying another word.
Viney returned to the OR, where her patient was waiting for her. Amity was already exhausted, breathing heavily and covered in cold sweat, but she was too determined to give up. The golden eyes blinked rapidly.
"Are you sure you want to continue tonight?" Viney asked worriedly.
"Bring it," Amity replied with a smirk, breathing heavily.
"Titan, I forgot how stubborn you are," The Healer rolled her eyes with a small smile. She then drew a blue spell circle, "Here we go," She added, continuing to heal.
Viney finished the Healing Spell right before dawn. Amity fell asleep the moment she was finally cleared to relax. The Healer was shocked to see her patient hold up until the end. As she pushed the gurney out of the OR, she noticed Luz sleeping on the floor. The human leaned on the wall, her head lolling to the side and her legs sprawling to the sides.
"I guess everyone else left," Viney thought.
She stopped the gurney and approached the sleeping woman. She knelt beside her and noticed Luz's brow twitching as she mumbled something in her sleep. The witch smiled before touching the tan shoulder.
"Luz?" Viney shook the human a little. The hazel-brown eyes shot open immediately, roaming the witch's face.
"Viney?" Luz straightened herself and winced in discomfort, "Whatʼs wrong? Where's Amity?" She asked urgently, and the Healer smiled warmly.
"Everything's alright," Viney assured her friend, "We just finished. She's gonna be alright but probably gonna sleep for a couple of days," She explained, smiling tiredly.
"Can I…?" Luz hesitated.
"Of course, come on," Viney offered a hand, helping the human to her feet.
Luz limped toward her fiancée. Ghost appeared on her shoulder, and they looked worriedly at the sleeping witch. Amity was breathing calmly and sleeping soundly. She looked exhausted. Shadows underlined her eyes, worsening the grim image of her starved face.
"Titan, she made it..." Luz thought with relief.
"Do you want to help me take her to bed?" Viney asked, dragging the human out of her thoughts.
"Sure," Luz replied, forcing herself to look away from her fiancée, grabbing the side of the gurney, "How's her bile sac regeneration?" She asked worriedly.
"Slowly but steady," Viney replied, "Now that she's eating again and her other injuries are gone, I'm sure the regeneration will increase," She added, and Luz felt slightly relieved.
They made it to Amity's room, and the human opened the quilt while Viney cast a levitation spell to move the sleeping witch to her bed. Luz covered the pale body, tucking her fiancée in. She brushed the lavender hair away from the pale face, and the pink lips released a small whimper.
"Are you going home?" Viney asked, and Luz snorted.
"As if," The human took her place in the armchair in front of Amityʼs bed, "I'll go home when she will," She added, and Viney chuckled.
"I get it," The Healer helped tuck Luz under a blanket, "I'll bring you something to eat in a few hours," She added and left the room, hurrying to the living quarters.
"Oh, I'm gonna sleep for days," Viney thought, crawling into her marital bed and pulling Emira in a tight embrace.
"How's she?" The green-haired woman mumbled, grabbing her wife's arm in support.
"Good. Sleeping. I need sleep, too," Viney murmured.
Emira scoffed and turned around. She pulled her wife into a caring embrace and waited for the brunette to fall asleep before leaving the bed to start her day. She was restless, knowing how much paperwork awaited her, but it was a good distraction from worrying about her sister.
Time passed excruciatingly slowly. Luz woke up every few hours, checked in on Amity, changed her IV, and tried to sleep some more. Danielle, Eda, Willow, Viney, and Emira took turns trying to force the human to eat something. To say that she was difficult was an understatement.
It was another day after the Healing Spell. Day and night lost all meaning to Luz. She felt as if she was trapped in a space with no time continuum. Suddenly, the doors to Amity's room creaked open, and the human felt a familiar feathery body circle around her, applying comforting pressure.
"Hooty," Luz whispered weakly, returning the hug, "I missed you, buddy," She whispered, and the demon trilled quietly.
"How's she doing?" Luz did not notice Lilith enter. She wore a Porta-Hooty on her back. The human smiled when she saw the witch wearing a plain dress and a semi-long tunic, "Iʼm sorry I didn't come sooner," The red-headed woman whispered, slowly approaching the sleeping witch, "Titan," She gasped, covering her lips.
"Sheʼll be fine, Auntie L.," Luz stood up and laid her head on the bony shoulder.
"Sheʼs so thin…" Lilith gasped, "And her…" She frowned when she saw the scar on the porcelain-like pale face, "What happened to her?!" She turned to the side. The green eyes met the hazel-brown, and Luz sighed.
"Boscha attacked her when she and Willow were rescuing me from the Catacombs," Luz explained, "The worst part?" She asked, getting Lilith's attention, "Iʼm not sure she knows about it," She explained, and her aunt's ears slanted.
"Titan," Lilith gasped, looking back at her former protegé.
"Sheʼs strong and not alone anymore," Luz whispered, mustering a hopeful tone, "We'll get through it," She added.
The human felt a strong hug on her shoulders, and she smirked, appreciating the support. They watched Amity sleep together until Hooty started getting Lilith's attention. The red-headed woman smiled.
"Oh, thank you, Hootsifer," The witch whispered, "Eda asked me to pass you these PB sandwiches. Are you not eating again?" She teased.
"Yeah… Too stressed," Luz admitted, gratefully accepting the food.
"Well, you need strength, too," The witch pointed out, "She's safe now, but she will need your support in coming to terms with everything that happened," She explained, and Luz fell silent.
"I didn't even see it that way," The human admitted, looking aside shamefully. She limped back to the armchair and plopped down, "I was so focused on her safety that I forgot about the aftermath…" Luz said, "Thank you for pointing that out," She smiled at her aunt, "And the food. I'll try to take better care of myself. For her sake," The human vowed.
"I'd prefer you do it for yourself, but it's a start," The witch smiled, and Hooty offered another hug, "I do my best to come more often. Especially now that I'm no longer a Coven Head," Lilith smiled.
"Thank you both," Luz replied, smiling with gratitude.
"Eat up and rest before she wakes up. Let us know when we can visit," Lilith added with a small smile, bidding her niece farewell and leaving her alone with her thoughts.
Luz was grateful for the visit. She needed to hear someone say out loud that Amity would need her support. Sometimes, she cursed herself for being so oblivious, but she was glad to have people who helped her realize her errors before it was too late.
Feeling motivated by the support Luz received from everyone, who was just as worried about Amity as she was, the human prepared a plan for when her fiancée would wake up. Time passed slowly, but the day finally arrived.
Twitch.
Amity's ears moved for the first time in a couple of days.
"Mmm…" The witch murmured, tying her brows in discomfort before relaxing again.
Luz got to her feet and hovered above the bed. She feared the moment Amity would finally wake up, but she could not pretend she was not relieved. Helping the witch regain her full health would not be easy, but the human could not be more proud to be trusted with the task.
"Mmm…" Amity tried again. Her nails dug deep into the mattress, worrying Luz.
"Amity, Baby. It's Luz," The human whispered, "Are you in pain?" She asked, but the witch did not reply.
Tap.
Luz did not see the slight twitch of the pale, hurt fingers.
Tap.
A delicate scratching caught the human's attention. She realized the bony digits were scratching the mattress. Luz observed the hand and noticed a pattern. She touched the finger, stopped it, and noted that the pattern scratched the bedsheet.
YES
Luz's eyes widened in understanding. Her fiancée was trying to talk to her, letting her know about the state of her mind.
"Hold on, Amity," The human whispered in panic, feeling the pain rising in her body, "I'll get you meds," She added and ran out of the room.
Luz ran toward the Nurses' Station and opened the medicine cabinet without asking the Main Nurse for permission. She readied the dose when she was suddenly stopped by a tall demoness who shoved her aside.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" The horned woman asked, letting out a furious growl.
"Get off!" Luz roared, pushing her hand aside, "Amity's awake!" She added, protecting the medicine while the Nurse froze.
"She's alive?" She whispered.
Luz did not like how the nurse said it as if she had hoped for another outcome. The human used the moment of her shock to move away and return to her fiancée's room to administer the medicine.
"I'm back, Baby. Easy," Luz whispered the moment she approached the bed, "I'm gonna squeeze your arm now," She added, applying the elastic band to the pale handI'm injecting the pain meds now," She informed, inserting the needle into the porcelain-like pale skin, "There you go," She added as she pushed the piston, allowing the medicine to enter the witch's bloodstream.
"Luz?" Emira surprised the human, entering the room, "I was told you stole the medicine…" She paused when she noticed Amity's pained frown, "Forget I said anything," She whispered, quickly approaching the bed, "It's okay, Sis. You're safe," The Healer whispered.
Emira extended her hand to caress the lavender hair but stopped, recalling how Danielle told her it could be painful to the overstimulated witch. Instead, she grabbed the side of the bed and looked at Luz.
"Thank you for breaking the rules," Emira whispered, "Next time, don't let anyone catch you and inform me afterward," She added with a heavy sigh.
"The Healing Coven is that bad, huh?" Luz tried to joke, but her future sister-in-law nodded, her expression serious and stern.
"Inform me about the progress. I need to get back to my duties," Emira whispered, leaving a moment later.
Luz was left alone in the dimly lit room with Amity and her thoughts. The witch whimpered and mewled as the medicine slowly began to work. The human worried, thinking her fiancée should feel better after the Healing Spell.
"Could it be that her bile sac is still hurting that much?" Luz thought, making a mental note to ask Viney about it later.
The human sat on the armrest of the armchair, impatiently watching Amity. She did not realize how disturbing it must have been until she noticed the eyelids delicately separate. The witch's ear twitched, brows furrowed, and relaxed with every jolt of electricity that ran through her body.
"Ami…" Luz gasped under her breath and returned to her feet, hovering above the hurt woman.
"H-h-hurts…" The witch gasped.
The golden eyes roamed the room from underneath the half-closed eyelids. Her breathing was sharp and shallow. Luz tried not to panic, knowing all too well that the first minutes after waking up were full of pain and confusion.
"I know, Baby. Try to calm down. I know it hurts," Luz cooed, "I don't know what to do, but I'm here Amity," She added, trying to hide her panic.
The pale hand shook as if looking for something. The human grabbed it, and the witch squeezed it to the best of her ability. The pink lips cracked a small smile, and the hurt chest expanded rapidly in a slight chuckle.
"Youʼre… Doing great," Amity gasped hoarsely, making Luz snort nervously.
"Sorry, but the roles were usually reversed," The human giggled, hiding her nerves in faux confidence.
"Oh?" Amity wiggled her eyebrow, "Is the best Volunteer in Bonesborough out of her depth," She teased, wincing in pain the moment she did, "Ah, fuck," She arched her back in discomfort, forcing herself not to break Luz's hand comforting her.
"I thought you'd feel better…" The human said worriedly.
"My lung is better," Amity gasped heavily, "But my bile sac is shit," She explained, chuckling grimly, her left hand grabbing her chest.
"Viney told me that the regeneration rate should increase now that your lung is better and you're eating again," Luz said reassuringly, "Whatever you need, let me know…" She added, not knowing what else to do.
The tan hand found its way to the pale cheek and caressed it delicately. The human had no idea what she was doing, but it seemed to help. Amity started purring, her nails partially retracted, and she fell asleep within minutes. Luz exhaled heavily and sat back in the armchair, afraid she would not be good enough to help her fiancée bounce back this time.
The next time Amity woke up, she realized it must have been the middle of the night. She cracked her eyes open and roamed the room. Luz was sleeping in the armchair, covered with a fluffy blanket. The witch smiled slightly, grateful for having the woman in her life. She then looked aside and noticed a glass of water on her nightstand.
"It must be Luz's…" The witch thought when she realized how parched she was.
Amity frowned in discomfort and tried to push herself up to sit. It did not do her much good when the pain erupted in her chest and traveled down to her limbs. Her nails lengthened painfully, making her hiss, and she fell back to the pillows with a growl.
"Shit," The witch thought in resignation.
She looked at Luz and decided against trying to wake up the human. She needed her sleep. Amity recomposed herself, pushing her pain to the back of her mind, and decided she needed to rest, too. She closed her eyes and tried to relax.
"Oh, this is ridiculous," Amity thought, opening her eyes with frustration, "I slept for days, and now I can't get a shut eye? Titan!" She gritted her teeth in disbelief.
The witch lay in bed for hours, patiently waiting for her fiancée to wake up. She listened to calm and regular breathing and enjoyed the chance to experience it again. The darkness was slowly being chased away as the new day began.
Nurses started their rounds, and footsteps echoed in the corridor. Amity looked at her IV and was sure someone would soon come in to change her bag. The food trolleys echoed, marking breakfast time and making Luz stir in her sleep.
The human let out a delicate, sleepy groan, and she wiped her eyes before stretching her body. She looked around the room, slowly realizing she slept through the night. Luz got up and approached Amity's bed.
The witch smiled, noting how sleepy the human was, not realizing the other woman was already awake. Luz's movements seemed automatic as she changed the IV bag and added the pain medication to the drip. She looked down at the supposedly sleeping woman only once she was done.
"Amity?" Luz asked in surprise, "Why aren't you sleeping?" She asked worriedly, extending her hand to caress the pale cheek.
"C-couldn…" The witch choked.
"Hold on," Luz poured a glass of water and helped her fiancée drink.
"Thank you…" Amity gasped with relief, "I needed that," She added as Luz helped her back to bed, "I couldn't sleep…" She answered the question.
"You should've woken me up," Luz said sheepishly, feeling bad that she did not realize the hurt woman was awake for hours.
"You need sleep too, dumbass," Amity teased with a slight smirk, "When was the last time you've eaten?" She asked, and the human averted her gaze in shame, "Yeah, I thought so," She concluded.
"I'm sorry, I was too worried to eat," Luz whispered sheepishly. She was relieved to see the witch crack a smile.
"You can stop worrying now," Amity whispered softly, "Iʼm safe. You're safe. I just need to get through the regeneration, and everything will be as awesome as my caring girlfriend," She explained in a surprisingly mocking way that made Luz snort in amusement.
"Fiancée…" The human corrected her.
"Even better," Amity smiled widely, "Though I see no ring on my finger," She joked, making Luz relax.
"Oh, you'll get it back, Princess," The human teased, pulling the stool to sit next to Amity, "Once you're out, I'd be honored to return it to you," She added, and the witch grinned at Luz.
"You know how to motivate a woman to get better," Amity giggled.
Luz grabbed her fiancée's hand and caressed it delicately. The witch let out a delicate grunt of discomfort but returned the affection. Oh, how she missed holding the warm, tan hand in hers. Just as she was about to say that out loud, a delicate knock at the door caught her attention.
"Good morning, Luzita," Danielle said softly, entering the room and pushing the food trolley. Suddenly, she froze mid-step when she noticed golden eyes looking back at her, "Cariño, you're awake," She gasped in shock. The golden eyes immediately filled with tears, seeing relief on the human face.
"Mamá," Amity gasped with a quivering voice.
Luz moved aside, making space next to the witch. Danielle forgot about the food trolley. She immediately approached her daughter and pulled her into a rib-crushing hug. No one knew if Amity whimpered in pain or relief, but everyone was sure she was glad she had her mother in her life when she started purring weakly.
"I was so worried," Danielle whispered, pulling slightly away to look at the hurt woman. Amity smiled, and she let her tears escape, "Don't you ever scare me like that," She added, wiping the pale cheeks and brushing the hair away.
"I'll do my best, I promise," Amity sniffed. Danielle chuckled at that.
"Your best is more than enough, Bebé," The doctor replied, smiling at the woman, "Let me get you some breakfast," She added, delicately helping Amity to bed.
Luz could not believe how heartwarming it was to see her fiancée so relaxed and trusting toward the older woman. She could not believe it was all happening because of one food poisoning.
"What are you smiling at?" Amityʼs voice pulled the human out of her stupor.
"I'm just so glad to see you happy finally," Luz admitted, sitting back close to her fiancée, taking hold of her hand.
"Just wait until I get back to my feet," Amity teased, earning a wholehearted chuckle from the human.
"I'm looking forward to that," Luz admitted, feeling the worry lift off her shoulders.
Danielle returned with food quickly. Emira and Viney followed the older woman, and after expressing their gratitude for keeping the young woman safe, they shared a meal. Amity roamed the people around her, unspeakably grateful to have them in her life.
The next few days passed quickly. Everyone was so happy that Amity was getting back on her feet that Luz had to ask people to leave her fiancée alone so she could rest.
Willow was a pleasant interruption, and Skara was not an unpleasant guest. Gus and Albert surprised everyone with their presence. Vee wanted to thank the Heiress for sparing her. With Hunter and Lilith on top of that, Amity was overwhelmed by everyone.
If Luz could not care for her fiancée, having school grades to maintain, Danielle took her newfound motherhood a tad too seriously when it came to Amity's well-being. Eda found it amusing but was not about to tell her girlfriend to stop as long as everyone was safe.
Everyone could agree on one thing. Amity never had a wider smile but when Luz returned from her other duties to tell her all about the day she just had. Usually, everyone took her arrival as their sign to leave before dinner. Danielle, Eda, Emira, and Viney always tried to join the women for the meal, but this day was different.
Luz returned from the Academy, and everyone left the two women alone. The young brunette plopped into the armchair and looked at the witch who sat in bed, drinking tea. Amity eyed her fiancée with a delicate smirk, waiting for the human to get along with her ritual.
"In three… Two… One…" The witch knew her future wife all too well.
"Let me get refreshed a little, and we'll eat," Luz said, and Amity smiled widely.
"Bad day?" The witch asked, watching the human stand up.
"Not bad," Luz said, lowering herself and kissing the pale forehead. The pointy ears fluttered. The witch was still having trouble accepting more intimate touch despite craving it, "Just tiring," She added, caressing the pale cheek and reveling in a quiet purr that left Amity's throat.
"You have to tell me all about it," The witch whispered with a smile, "And I have to tell you about the workout Willow came up with today," She added.
"Oh, yeah?" Luz smirked, "I can vouch for the effects. You'll be up and running in no time," She added, and they shared a small giggle.
Without any further comment, Luz headed to the adjoining bathroom, leaving her fiancée alone. Amity let down an empty cup on her nightstand and relaxed, waiting patiently for the human to finish before they could enjoy their evening.
The golden eyes closed, and Amity tried to relax and regain some strength. She let out a long exhale and smiled delicately, appreciating all the people in her life. She did not expect anyone to enter her room, so the delicate footsteps surprised her. The witch opened her eyes and noticed a familiar face.
"You…?" A large hand muffled the pink lips, "Mmm!" Amity tried to scream
The witch tried to fight, but she was taken by surprise when she looked into the eyes of the witch who stabbed her just a few days ago. She barely could comprehend what was happening. Her hands barely scratched the arms holding her when a wide needle entered her neck.
"Shh, shh, shh," The attacker hushed, "It's gonna take a moment, and you'll be alright. This time, it's nothing personal, Miss Blight," He continued, emptying the syringe into the Heiress's bloodstream.
"Mmm!" Amity tried to fight but started feeling strange.
"Luz! Please! Get out of the fucking shower!" She yelled internally, hoping her fiancée would hear her thoughts.
"Amity?" The voice from inside the bathroom called, startling the intruder.
"Mmm…" Amity started losing strength. Her hands fell back limply onto the bed.
The Heiress started losing hope when the bathroom door opened with a thud. Luz, dressed in a bathrobe, was still wet, indicating she did not waste time getting to Amity.
"YOU!" The human roared in fury.
Her eyes immediately turned black-gold, and her hands transformed when she noticed the witch who stabbed the love of her life. The attacker dropped the syringe and ran for their dear life.
"Amity!" Luz gasped in a distorted voice, appearing by her fiancée's side in a bright gold flash.
"H-hot…" The witch gasped, feeling the boiling sensation enter her veins, "A-ah!" She exclaimed, arching her back and kicking her legs.
"Somebody call Viney!" Luz hollered, hoping the Nurses would hear her roar before facing her fiancée, "Amity, how… I mean…" She paused momentarily, "If you can, tell me how I can help," She added and froze when the witch stiffened in her bed.
"H-hurts… The golden eyes let out a waterfall of tears while the pointy ears slanted.
"Luz?" Viney's voice startled the human, "Whatʼs…?" She paused when she noticed her sister-in-law.
"She was attacked!" The human gasped in panic, "I just took a shower…" Luz blamed herself, "I shouldn't have left her…" She added.
"Easy," Viney placed her hand on the human's shoulder, "Not your fault," She added.
"AAAAA!" Amity roared so animalistically that the Healer froze.
The hurt witch felt her heart rate increase. Her bile sac was uncomfortably squeezed while she could feel the strangest sensations. Amity could have sworn she heard the heartbeats around her. The smells were so thick and heavy that they were practically visible to her.
"Titan, what's wrong with her?" Luz gasped when she noticed Amity's hair ruffle like on a wildcat, her nails lengthened and dug into the mattress, "Viney!" She called the Healer, demanding answers.
In the meantime, Amity was trying to comprehend what was happening to her body. Her senses picked up on everything, blinding and deafening her, while Luz's distraught expression was the last thing she could have focused on.
The wet, curly hair, hazel-brown eyes, and white-gold fang resonated strongly in the witch's memory, reminding her of love and belonging as her body tried to digest the poison she had been given.
"Get me that syringe," Viney instructed, "I need to know what she was given…" A roar interrupted her explanation.
"Amity…" Luz gasped when she noticed her fiancée's feral look.
"Try to hold her," Viney instructed, and she drew a spell circle. A small golden orb illuminated the pale face, and they noticed the pupils rapidly shrinking, "Shit," The Healer hissed when she realized the round dots had lengthened, turning into tall, black slits.
"Viney, what's…?" Luz wanted to ask, but she was distracted by Amity's growl.
The human hesitated momentarily, and it was enough for the hurt woman to break free. Amity pushed her fiancée back and reached her feet before Viney could do anything, scaring the other women.
The younger witch breathed heavily, snarling and wobbling on her feet. She pulled her hair, trying to filter all sensations, but it was all too much. Suddenly, she paused, looked up toward the door, and sniffed.
"Amity?" Luz asked hesitantly, feeling the strangest urge to hunt.
The vertical pupils dilated in the golden eyes when the witch inhaled deeply. She smirked slightly in an image of a maniacally satisfied hunter. Viney tried to approach her sister-in-law, but before she could cast a sleeping spell, Amity darted out of her room.
"Amity, wait!" Luz called out, but her fiancée was too fast.
Amity got a whiff of the smell that surrounded the person who attacked her. She was unsure what was happening to her, but she was confident of one thing: she was not about to let this person roam free and endanger her family.
The bright light on the corridor blinded her, making it difficult for her to walk in a straight line, but Amity focused on her sense of smell. She heard someone calling for her, but she could not stop. An urge to hunt and protect was stronger.
"Everybody, stay away from her!" Luz called, following her fiancée.
People looked in shock at the human running across the corridor in nothing but a bathrobe, calling for the Heiress in the kindest words anyone had heard while following the feral witch who scared the life out of everyone else.
"Come on, Amor! That's not what I meant about being up and running," Luz gasped when Amity suddenly stopped.
The witchʼs posture lowered. Her lengthened nails prepared for an attack while she kept sniffing the air. Suddenly, she froze. Luz did not see a wide, maniacal grin that entered the pale face. Amity turned to the side and smashed the door to the supply room to pieces.
"Amity!" Luz exclaimed, shocked by the raw strength the witch presented.
The witch entered the dark room with rows of shelves containing medicine, spare bed sheets, pajamas, and other necessary Clinic supplies. Suddenly, Amity stopped sniffing and froze. A low growl erupted from her throat, and Luz was sure the hurt woman started purring.
The human heard a strange gasp, and Amity faced the source. The pale hands grabbed the shelf and threw it aside with a force that made it break to pieces. Luz noticed a trembling, cowering figure that gasped in fear when they saw the feral witch.
"Please, no!" Amity's attacker gasped and ran toward the door.
Luz recognized the witch who attacked her fiancée, but she was unable to stop him as he rushed by her. Amity quickly followed, leaping forward onto her hands before returning to her feet, growling ferally, grinning widely, and enjoying the hunt.
"Ami, wait!" Luz yelled behind her fiancée.
Amity passed the Nurses' Station and jumped at the witch, who tried to run for his dear life. The feral witch chuckled, and she turned her victim to his back. She raised her hand and dug her long primal nails into the rapidly expanding chest.
"Amity! No!" Luz hollered, finally catching up with her fiancée, "Stop!" She added, grabbing the pale hands forcefully and dragging the woman away from the bleeding witch to let the Healers work.
The growl mixed with a hiss that Amity released was so animalistic and primal that Luz could not ignore the worried hoot in her head. The human turned her fiancée to face her, and she gulped heavily, seeing how the pointy ears slanted aggressively and the long fangs were presented in an animalistic snarl.
"Amity, calm down. Everything's gonna be okay…" Luz cooed supportively. She looked into the golden eyes while she held the pale hands securely, "Look at me, Baby," She added, noticing how the golden eyes roamed her face frantically. The vertical pupils made the human worry for her fiancée.
"I…" Amity parted her lips, and she tried to speak.
Luz noticed Danielle approaching them with a small syringe in her hand. She tightened her hold on the witch's hands and pulled her closer as the human doctor snuck in with the medicine.
"Ah!" Amity gasped, her feral expression fading.
"Shh, you're gonna be okay, Cariño," Danielle cooed, removing the syringe from her daughterʼs backside, delicately massaging the injection point before pulling her pajama bottoms up to their rightful place.
"I…" Amity gasped in pain and shock. The pink lips parted, and the golden eyes roamed the tan face before her.
"It's okay, Amor," Luz whispered, letting go of the pale wrists that immediately landed on her collarbones, "Youʼre safe," She held her fiancée close.
"H-help…" Amity gasped.
The witch's bony fingers dug into the tan body, careful not to hurt the warm human with her nails. Luz could feel how the thin body trembled, and she watched the golden eyes worriedly. The vertical pupils made her uneasy, but she felt relieved when she noticed they had started shrinking.
"A-ah!" Amity gasped. Her hands grabbed her head while Luz continued to hold her securely.
"I'm not going anywhere," The human reaffirmed.
She watched her fiancée struggle in her arms. It felt like an eternity, but the pupils finally regained their natural shape just in time for the golden eyes to roll up. The weak body slacked in Luz's hold.
"Woah, I gotcha," The human reassured, lifting the witch in a bride-like embrace, "It's over, Baby," She whispered, looking at the limp body in her arms.
"Luz, over here," Danielle got her ward's attention, pulling the free gurney toward them.
Luz forced her gaze away from her fiancée and took in her surroundings. Viney and another Healer were patching up Amity's attacker. Patients and Nurses were frightened, while Danielle stared at her daughter worriedly.
"Kid, you okay?" Eda's voice dragged Luz out of her stupor.
"M-mom?" The human asked dumbfoundedly, "What are you doing here?"
"Emira called me," Eda explained, approaching her daughter. Her expression hardened, seeing the unconscious Heiress in Luz's hold, "I called the Coven Scouts," She pointed to the soldiers entering the floor, "Hey, Spikes," She addressed the Healer, "Are they okay to arrest them?" She asked, having difficulty controlling her anger.
"Yeah," Viney got to her feet before she faced the Scouts, "Make sure they never approach my family again, or so help me Titan, I promise to break the Everlasting Oath!" She threatened.
Luz's lips parted in shock. She had never seen Viney so angry. She was fuming. Her jaw was clenched, her neck aorta pulsated rapidly, and her fists balled her robe as the Healer tried to control herself.
"Easy, Spikes," Eda approached Viney, separating her from the Scouts, "Let's take care of Boots, okay?" She proposed, guiding the brunette witch toward the gurney.
"Luz, you can let go," Danielle touched her ward's arm, startling the young woman, "She's safe now," She added, smiling warmly.
"Let's make sure she stays that way," Viney added, anger lingering in her voice.
Luz hesitantly released Amity, placing her gently on the gurney. The hurt witch whimpered in pain. Her pointy ears twitched while her breathing hitched. The human could not believe what had happened or why. The desire for vengeance was great, but she knew it was senseless. She needed to care for her fiancée now, which she did.
Amity felt her entire body ache. Her ears twitched, and she frowned in discomfort. The strange metallic taste in her mouth made her nauseous. Her breathing hitched, and she released a pained whimper. The bony fingers dug into the mattress while her chest shook with helpless sobs.
"Amity?" A soft voice whispered, but the witch could not reply.
Amity could not move or speak. She did not understand what was happening. She tried to move and face the person, but it was a bad idea. The moment she turned her head, the nausea increased drastically, triggering stomach cramps and diaphragm spasms.
"It's okay. Let me help you," The witch felt warm hands pull her up, helping her sit.
"Shit, that's pathetic…" Amity thought, feeling the drool escape her lips.
"Shh, it's okay," The person cooed, "Youʼre safe. Let it out. It's side effects from the drug," They added. Amity retched, losing control of her body.
The witch felt a bucket on her lap. She could not grab it, but she knew she could let go. A cold sweat beaded on her forehead as she finally released her stomach's contents. Her hair ruffled a little, and she let another load into the bucket. Warm hands caressed the witch's back in soothing circles.
"Can you hear me, Cariño?" Danielle asked, and the lavender head nodded slightly, "Viney found the antidote to the drug that person gave you, but the side effects are pretty nasty…" Another violent load made the human pause. She controlled the bucket contents, and once she was sure Amity was done, she helped her daughter back to bed, "Easy now. Luz told me you would be hurt and sore for some time now. We'll get you something to help with that once the nausea passes," She added. She was relieved to see the witch nod.
"Wh-where…?" Amity tried to ask, but her throat was sore.
"Here, have some water," Danielle helped the witch take a few sips before she wiped the sweat and drool off the pale face, "Youʼre back in your studio. Luz is working with Eda on placing protection spells on the living quarters to keep you safe…"
"Are they…?" The golden eyes finally cracked open, "Did I hurt them?" She asked in a quivering voice. Danielle smiled warmly at her daughter.
"Not as much as everybody wanted them to be hurt," The human replied with a slight smirk.
"I'm not… That kind of person…" Amity gasped with struggle, wincing in discomfort.
"I know that. It's not your fault," Danielle whispered soothingly, "They are back in prison, and I'm sure they won't be let out anytime soon," She said, trying to calm the witch down, "Try to rest now. We'll talk later," She added before taking the bucket to clean it in the adjoining bathroom.
Amity listened to the steps echoing through the room. She heard the water running and could have sworn something clicked in her mind. No one ever cared for her this way. She recalled what Willow told her. Danielle was always there. Despite meeting the woman barely six months ago, the human was there for her like Odalia never was.
"Amity, are you okay?" Danielle returned from the bathroom and found the hurt woman sobbing shakily.
Amity slightly shook her head and cracked her eyes open. Her cheeks immediately flooded with a waterfall of tears. Danielle placed the bucket on the floor, sat by her daughter's side, and took hold of the pale hand.
"Cariño, did I do something wrong?" The human asked, worried about the witch.
"N-no…" Amityʼs voice shook, "No one cared for me… L-like that…" She said between sobs.
"Ay, Mija," Danielle whispered, understanding what was happening, "Come here," She pulled the young woman up and embraced the crying witch, "Iʼm sorry you had to go through life alone," She whispered, caressing the fluffy lavender mane, holding the sob-shaken back, "Iʼm here now, Mija," She added and felt weak hold on her back.
Amity ignored the burning pain in her limbs. She needed to embrace her mother. The witch grabbed the womanʼs shirt and balled it in her fists while letting her forehead rest on the tan shoulder. The delicate, soothing caresses on the lavender hair helped her calm down. It did not take long before Amity was asleep in Danielle's embrace.
"Sleep, Cariño," The woman whispered, helping her daughter back to the pillow.
"I'm not going anywhere…" She thought as she cleaned the pale face before sitting in the wide armchair from where she watched the woman sleep.
The studio doors opened quietly, and Danielle noticed Ghost enter the room with Luz in tow. The doctor smiled at her ward. The Palisman hopped onto her lap, and they both watched Amity sleep. The younger woman sat on the small footrest and could not tear her eyes away.
"How's she?" Luz whispered, afraid to wake up her fiancée.
"Hurt, confused, nauseous… But safe," Danielle replied. Her voice was still heavy with emotions.
"And how are you?" Luz looked at her guardian worriedly.
"Confused…" She admitted, "I don't know why I feel so responsible for her. Luz, I want her to be safe and happy," She added, looking up at the younger brunette.
"She needs time, Dani…" A sudden movement interrupted Luz's thought.
"N-no…" Amity whimpered, and Luz felt the overwhelming sensations coursing through her fiancée's body.
Danielle noticed that the witch's starved stomach began to cramp. She quickly approached the bed, grabbed the bucket, and helped Amity. She assisted her daughter through the experience while Luz held back her lavender hair.
"Youʼre safe, Amity," Danielle whispered, caressing the tense back.
The witch slowly moved her hands to hold the bucket herself and struggled for a few more minutes. Her slanted ears trembled with exhaustion. She retched several more times, but her stomach was empty.
"I'm gonna bring an IV," Luz whispered. The pale hand left the bucket to hold onto the woman she loved, "Youʼre dehydrated, Baby. I'll be right back," She explained, and Amity nodded, reluctantly letting go.
"Let me help you down, Cariño," Danielle offered, and the witch cooperated.
Amity heard Luz leave her studio. She tried to control her sensations, but she panicked at the thought of another session to release her empty stomach. Suddenly, she felt a wet cloth on her face and opened her golden eyes. Her pink lips twitched in a sad attempt to smile when she noticed Danielle's caring expression.
Amity wanted to try and say something, but Luz returned with the equipment before she gathered her strength. She hopped every other step, ignoring her limp, hurrying to her fiancée's right side, where she placed the IV stand.
"Let's get you hydrated," The younger human whispered. Luz glanced at Danielle, but the older woman nodded at her to continue, "Iʼm going to attach the catheter now," She warned the witch. The doctor was proud to see how swiftly the needle found the correct vein.
"Mmm…" Amity winced in discomfort, but she did not move away.
"Very good, Luzita," Danielle said proudly, "Now keep the drip at one hundred drops per minute. We have no time for a slow drip," She explained, and her ward nodded, "Dang, you're natural," She added proudly.
"Mmm…" Amity whimpered.
Two women looked at the witch worriedly, and Luz ran to her backpack. Danielle soothed the lavender hair again while her ward rummaged her belongings until she found the thermometer.
"Amity, I need to take your temperature," Luz whispered, presenting the object in her hand.
"Just give it back," The witch tried to joke, cracking a weak smile.
Danielle snorted. Luz rolled her eyes but smiled nonetheless. Amity's expression faded, but her fiancée could still feel the warm feeling in her chest: gratitude for being surrounded by the people she loved.
"Youʼre slightly feverish but nothing too dangerous," Luz informed, and the witch nodded.
"What…?" Amity tried to speak, "What was that?"
"The poison?" Luz asked, raising her brow.
"Mmm…" The witch confirmed with a nod.
"Um…" The younger human hesitated, sharing a look with her guardian.
"Tell me," Amity turned serious.
"It was a potion giving the opposite results to my elixirs," Luz explained. Amity widened her eyes and tried to sit up. Danielle noticed that attempt and helped her daughter to get another pillow, "Viney guessed it based on your reactions, but she confirmed it with Morton while you were sleeping," She explained.
"What…?" Amity groaned in discomfort, "What did they do to me? It felt… Strange… Like I wasn't in control," She explained to the best of her ability. Luz glanced worriedly at Danielle again before sighing heavily.
"You know that my potions help me connect with Beasty," Amity nodded in confirmation, "What they gave you, the Primus Potion, strengthened your connection with your primal genes, bringing out the true Wild Witch," Luz explained, carefully observing the witch.
"I…" Amity hesitated, trying to remember as much as she could, "I felt the urge to hunt them down… To protect you…" She gasped, wincing in discomfort, "There were so many smells… So strong I could see them… Each had a different color," She paused, lifting her hand to inspect it. The Heiress's fingertips were covered in bloody scabs, but her nails were finally retracted, "I couldn't stop myself…"
"Amity, it's okay," Luz whispered, "I know you feel like shit now…"
"Thatʼs what…?" Amity gulped heavily, "Is that what you go through every time?" She asked in disbelief, and Danielle understood the gravity of this realization.
"I got used to it," Luz tried to brush it off, looking aside sheepishly, "Please, don't make a big deal out of it…"
"I'm in no condition… To argue with you…" Amity admitted, smirking slightly.
"Well, that's a first," Luz teased, earning a small smile from the witch.
"I promise you'll feel better soon, Amity," The human reassured, "Try to relax while I take care…"
"Don't leave me…" Amityʼs breathing hitched, and her hand grabbed Luz's weakly in panic.
"Baby, I'm just gonna grab some stuff from the Owl House so I can stay with you longer," The human explained.
"Sheʼll also walk me home," Danielle added, hoping this would calm the witch.
"Let Ghost accompany you," Amity pleaded weakly.
"You've got yourself a deal, Blight," Luz said mischievously, planting a small kiss on the pale forehead, "You won't even notice while I'm gone," She added.
"I wee…" Amity slurred, trying to oppose, but her eyes rolled up.
"Not with the pain meds I gave you," Luz added in a whisper, straightening up.
She watched her fiancée fall into a medicine-induced slumber. Danielle tucked the witch in, and they shared a look, silently agreeing to leave. They informed Viney of their plan and walked to the Owl House with Ghost perching on Luz's shoulder.
The next few days passed in bliss. Willow gladly helped Amity with her Physical Therapy, giving Luz space to study. The lavender-haired witch became more independent daily, allowing her fiancée to support her as little as possible. They spent evenings cuddling together, playing Hexes Hold'em, or watching movies on the crystal ball.
Luz cherished those moments, still not believing that her fiancée was back. While Amity was still getting used to the touch, she craved the warmth of the human body. The witch used any reason to lean into the embrace, too shy to admit she needed it.
It brings us to a calm, late afternoon a few days after releasing Amity to her studio. The witch exited the bathroom, refreshed after PT with Willow, precisely when Luz returned from the Academy. The witch smiled widely, seeing her fiancée regain her human form after flying in through the balcony door.
"Welcome home," Amity greeted the human.
Luz could not help but grin at that. She was ready to scoop the witch and swirl around, but she stopped herself, recalling she had just cleaned Puddles. Amity giggled when she noticed her fiancée's struggle to control her urges.
"Give me a moment to freshen up, and I'll be right with you," Luz said, barely controlling her happiness.
"Don't keep me waiting," Amity teased with a smirk.
Luz sneaked into the bathroom while the witch slowly approached her desk by the window. She was still moving slowly, aching with every step, but her progress was adamant. Her bile sac was regenerating, and the lack of magic in her bloodstream was agonizing.
When Luz exited the bathroom, drying her hair with a towel, she smiled when she noticed the witch was studying the material she had missed during her time in the Clinic. She quietly approached Amity and hovered above the lavender head.
"Maybe you should take a break?" The human proposed.
"I want to return to the Academy as soon as possible, so I need to catch up," Amity replied.
"I missed your Little Miss Perfect attitude," Luz teased, earning a glare. A wide, teasing smile entered the tan face, and the golden eyes rolled in annoyance.
"Well, you better get used to it," Amity got to her feet, her eyes boring into the hazel-brown ones challengingly. Luz stepped back and gulped nervously, "Human…" She teased, pointing the finger at the moist shirt, obscuring the tan braless chest.
"Is that so? Princess?" Luz retorted, trying to win the overconfident staring match the witch started.
"Yeah," Amity confirmed, losing her stern facade, smirking slightly, and taking another step forward.
"Yeah?" Luz continued but stepped back, gulping at the intensity of the witch's gaze, feeling her need. The golden eyes glanced at the full lips.
"Yea-... Shit!" Amity hissed, losing balance, distracted by the other woman.
"Amity!" Luz called, grabbing the pale shoulders and helping her fiancée stand, "Are you okay?" She asked worriedly. The entire teasing facade was gone. The witch roamed her face, lingering on her lips, "Talk to me," She added.
"S-sorry," Amity smiled sheepishly, "I got distracted," She straightened herself up and cupped the tan face. Luz noticed how the golden eyes rushed between her lips and her eyes, making her smirk.
"Is there something you'd like?" Luz asked, feeling a boost of confidence. The pale thumb soothed the area under the luscious, full lower lip, "Amity?" She asked, and the witch forced her eyes away from her fiancée's lips.
"I…" Amity hesitated. She placed her left hand on Luz's collarbone, biting down her lower lip, and the human tightened her hold on the witchʼs waist, "I know I'm taking too long…"
"No," Luz interrupted immediately, "Youʼre taking as long as you need, and I'm not going anywhere," She reassured. The pointy ears slanted in appreciation, and the witch threw herself into a loving embrace.
"Titan, I don't deserve you," Amity gasped, hiding her right hand between wet curls while Luz returned the embrace.
"You deserve the world, Amity," The human whispered, hiding her nose in the crook of the pale neck.
They remained in the embrace for what seemed like a welcome eternity. Amity was the first one to pull away. Her ear brushed against the scarred cheek as she did, making it flutter. She gasped and swallowed hard when she noticed wide pupils in the hazel-brown orbs. The pink lips parted slightly.
"Amity…" Luz whispered but could feel her fiancée's emotions, "There's no rush…"
"I know," Amity replied.
The witch slowly leaned forward. Luz lowered herself, reciprocating the sentiment, but was not about to be the one to close the gap. She knew how difficult it was for Amity to make this step all over again. Their lips were barely an inch away. The golden eyes glanced into the brown ones, where there was nothing but love and affection.
Finally, after weeks of waiting and supportive patience, the moment arrived. Their lips brushed slightly, indicating hesitation. Amity gasped, and her ears twitched. The pale hands tightened their hold on the warm body, and their lips were finally fully connected.
"Mmm," Luz could not stop her reaction, loving the feeling of the only lips she would ever want to kiss.
At first, Amity kissed the human chastely, stiffening at the sensation. It all felt so new and foreign that it scared the witch. The warm hand moved down the pale waist, and suddenly, everything felt more like home. The pink lips parted, letting out a delicate whimper, and the chastity of the affection disappeared.
The kiss became more fervent and needy. Luz tried to resist her urge to take control and throw her fiancée onto the bed, reminding herself how big a step it was for the witch. Amity parted her lips and pulled the human closer, granting heated, open-mouth kisses.
The pointy ears fluttered excitedly, and the magical heart skipped a beat when they suddenly paused, their lips slightly parted. Amity dared to open her eyes and hesitantly looked up, meeting the warm, hazel-brown pleading gaze. The witch fought her fear and dared to lick the seam of the human's lips.
Luz shuddered under the touch, barely holding onto the remnants of her self-control. Amity shut her eyes again as she sensed the warm tongue brushing against hers. A sudden, loud, high-pitched moan escaped her lips, and the pale hands pulled the human impossibly closer.
The two women stumbled, wobbling on their feet, until Amity rested her hips on her desk while Luz flushed their bodies together, searching for the closeness she was robbed of in the past weeks. The witch demanded it as well, pulling the tan body impossibly closer.
"Mmm…" Amity moaned as their tongues continued the assault, fighting for dominance, "Luz," She gasped when she spread her legs slightly, feeling the remains of her control and dignity slipping away.
"We should stop," Luz said, trying to be the voice of reason, but she was defenseless with how the witch kept kissing and pulling her closer.
"I know," Amity agreed, but she did not stop.
The witch continued to kiss her fiancée with a passion equal to the neediness resulting from the weeks of neglect. The pale hand left the curly hair and pulled the human's hips closer. Luz smirked, understanding the message. The human could practically feel the ache between Amity's legs.
"Amity, Baby," Luz moaned, offering her thigh to the witch, "We really—ah!" She gasped when she felt the fangs on her neck, "We should stop," She urged but could not stop herself when she felt the sensual sucks and nibbles on her collarbone.
"I feel fine, Luz," Amity reassured, knowing that her fiancée had Viney's warning in mind.
"No excessive workouts! You're still in recovery. You know what I mean!" Viney winked, flustering the young couple the day they started living together, "Not until I'm sure your bile sac is ready, that is…" She added an explanation.
"I donʼt want to stop," Amity mumbled, boldly pulling the human so close the tan thigh ended between her legs, making contact with her core, "Ah! Fuck, yes!" The witch cried in pleasure as her eyes rolled up and back arched.
"Not so shy anymore," Luz teased, pushing her leg forward, reveling in the image before her.
"I'm sorry," Amity replied, immediately feeling shame for being so crude, searching for pleasure like an animal in heat, almost stopping her hips.
"Don't," Luz said, pulling back and grabbing the witch's hips, "Never apologize for feeling good," She explained with a warm expression, "If you're ready, let me help you feel good," She added. Amity roamed her face in disbelief.
"It's not weird that I like to…" Amity could not finish the question when she felt the human's thigh sneak in between her legs, her clit being stimulated perfectly, "Ah, fuck!" She gasped, tightening her hold on her fiancée.
"I love it, Amity," Luz reaffirmed, lowering herself, whispering to the pointy ear, "It's such a turn-on to see you want me so bad you can't even wait to take off your clothes," She added. The golden eyes shot open in shock, the pupils almost fully dilated, "I can barely control myself when you use me for your pleasure," The pale hips started moving more boldly, aroused by the words, "Thatʼs it," The human encouraged her, hazel-brown eyes slowly turning into pitch-black ones. Amity's movements fastened again, and her pink lips let out airy, high-pitched moans.
"Titan, Luz!" Amity moaned, throwing her head back, "I need you. Please, Luz," She released a ramble of words.
"I'm right here, Baby," The human whispered raspily, kissing the scarred neck, applying slightly more pressure between the pale legs, "Does this feel good?"
"Ah! Yes! Luz!" Amity howled in pleasure, "So good!" She opened her eyes and looked into the black-gold ones.
She felt how she ruined her pants, drenching them with her juices as she searched for relief. The pale digits pulled the human impossibly closer, loving how connected they felt. A familiar, dense sensation started to emerge in her abdomen. The chase was on as she felt her orgasm approaching.
"Don't stop," Amity begged hoarsely, staring intensely into her fiancée's eyes, "Please, Luz, please," Desperation guided her, making her ignore everything but her pleasure, "Yes, yes, yes, ah!" She was delirious.
Luz could feel her fiancée's pleasure rising. The jolts of electricity emerging from the Bond mark sent delicate, tingling sensations that incrementally increased in force. The human could not look away from the wide-open golden eyes, lost in how the pupils reacted to every wave of pleasure. That was until she noticed something else.
"Amity," Luz gasped worriedly, her expression fading.
The witch did not stop. She did not hear the worry in her fiancée's voice. She was too close to the relief. Amity clenched her fists on the tan shoulders, her jaw dropped when her lips released uncontrollable, wanton moans, applying more force on the human's leg.
"L-Luz, Luz, yes, oh!" Amity could not control herself, quivering as ecstasy rose, snarling fangs in blinding pleasure.
Luz watched the witch worriedly, feeling the orgasmic sensation start to bring something new. The human's eyes focused on the golden ones, and her brows tied in concentration. Her excitement disappeared.
"Oh, no… She needs to stop," Luz thought, realizing the wide pupils began to lose their blackness.
"Amity, st-..." The human was too late.
"AAAAAHHH!" Amity roared in pain.
The witch stopped her hips immediately when a delicate fuchsia glow appeared in the golden eyes. The pale hands let go of Luz, grabbing her head and chest. Amity would have fallen to the floor without the strong, tan hands keeping her secure.
"I gotcha, I gotcha," Luz reassured, pulling the trembling witch into a bride-like embrace.
"N-no…" Amity cried out, breathing heavily.
"I know, Baby. I feel it, too," The human reassured, carrying her fiancée to bed, "I'm sorry," She added, gently placing Amity on the mattress.
The witch trembled. Cold sweat beaded her forehead, and her eyes rolled around the room. Her hands kept tugging at her shirt, and she felt the painful pressure in her chest. Whatever pleasure she had felt seconds ago was gone, leaving her with agonizing frustration.
KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK!
"Amity?" A sudden voice came from the other side of the door, "I heard screaming. Are you okay?" Luz recognized Emira and paled down a tone. A set of another three knocks followed, "Amity!?"
"N-not… Em…" Amity gasped, looking at Luz beggingly. The human nodded in understanding and approached the door.
"Heyyyy, Em," Luz cracked the door open and smiled faux-innocently, "Would you mind asking Viney to come over?" She asked, chuckling nervously.
Emira looked at the human's face. She felt something was wrong and wanted to act. The Healer was about to ask more questions or argue when she noticed delicate bruises forming on the tan neck.
"Yeah," Emira snorted, shaking her head in disbelief, "I'll get her for you," She added, smirking knowingly.
"Thanks…" Luz replied shamefully.
"Idiot, idiot, idiot!" Amity scolded herself.
The witch was angry with herself, more frustrated than before, and hurting again. Everything because she could not wait any longer. Amity hated herself then, and her intrusive thoughts did not help.
"Amity, stop that," Luz said sternly, dragging the witch out of her thoughts, "I can feel that you know?" She explained just in time for Viney to enter the room confidently.
"Just so you know, I won the bet with your sister," The Healer joked, approaching the bed. She noticed a blush creep onto the human's face, "Now, let me examine you," She became serious and drew a spell circle. The pale hand patted the mattress as if looking for something to hold.
"I'm here, Amity," Luz reassured, grabbing her fiancée's hand.
"Huh…" Viney muttered, moving the spell across Amityʼs body, "Interesting," She added when she applied the spell to the witchʼs heart.
The young couple shared a worried look while the Healer worked. Amity felt the pain slowly dissipate. Her breathing became calmer and more regular, and her hold on Luz's hand stopped being so desperate, but she still appreciated the support.
"Curiouser and curiouser," Viney muttered.
"Would you mind telling us what's happening?" Luz said with a tinge of irritation in her voice.
The Healer dropped the spell and sat in the armchair. Amity let go of Luz's hand and sat against her pillows, getting more comfortable and listening to her sister-in-law. The human helped her before they both focused on the brunette witch.
"I checked your bile sac regeneration yesterday," Viney stated the obvious. Amity hummed with a slight nod, "It's so weird because today it looks much stronger," She explained, hardly containing her smile.
"Huh?" Amity let out a confused squeal.
"I'm not encouraging you to do…" Viney rolled her hand, looking for the best words to describe her thoughts, "Whatever you were doing a moment ago," She said, and the younger women blushed fervently, "But it looks like using magic helps you regenerate it," She concluded.
"So it's like a muscle?" Luz asked with curiosity.
"It would seem so," Viney agreed before facing Amity, "You must understand, there was no recorded case of dying of emptying a bile sac and being revived," She said with un-Viney-like seriousness, "We're all on uncharted waters here. I'm just saying what I see," She added.
"So, what do you suggest?" Amity asked hoarsely.
"Try using magic," Viney said, smiling softly, "Start with something small. A Light Spell, for example…" She paused momentarily, "I know you want to be intimate, but this matter is delicate. Try to keep your hands to yourself. I hate to see you hurt," She concluded, slowly getting up.
"Did I hurt my bile sac?" Amity asked worriedly, grabbing her chest.
"Um, no," Viney admitted, "What you felt was a strain on your heart, but you were not endangered," She explained. Suddenly, her expression hardened, "Don't let that encourage you!" She warned, and Luz giggled at that.
"Thanks, Viney," The human smiled, "For being here…"
"Don't thank me, Luz," The Healer smirked, "Iʼm gonna tease you relentlessly about it," She added, making women blush again, "Speechless? Good! I was too," She giggled, "Now, try to rest," She approached the door, "I will try not to tell Emira about everything right away," She said, grinning at her sister-in-law.
"Greatly appreciated," Amity replied with a weak smile.
Viney left, and Luz shared a look with her fiancée. They looked at each other sheepishly until they shared a small giggle. It took Amity a few more minutes to regain her partial mobility. She cleaned herself, changed into fresh pajamas, and spent the rest of the evening at a safe distance from Luz, trying to ignore her frustration and desire as they watched movies together.
