Singing like songbirds, the men in black told them what they knew, which wasn't much, they didn't know anything more other than they needed to capture Alyson, by any means necessary, and bring her back to the designated location.
She was to be treated as dangerous, but under no circumstances could the men kill or wound her, incapacitate her as need be, but she was to be brought back to the lab in one piece.
Their employers weren't fond of telling them everything, so they only knew as much as Paul did.
From there, Paul forced them to tell him where the lab is, but watched as the men in black did something with their mouths.
An audible click was heard, before his angel eyes, the men in black squirmed in their restraints as cyanide overtook them in seconds.
Watching in horror, Taylor held Alyson close as they see the men die in agony as the cyanide coursed through their bodies.
Reduced to violent twitches, Paul's stunned at the sight before he ushered the women to hurry with him, that they can do no more for them, now.
"Why… why would they do that?" Alyson couldn't understand why the men would commit suicide in such grisly fashion and Paul frowns as he informed her that these were men who took a vow and died for it.
That said, he's even more interested in the lab, now that the men were forced to expose its existence.
What would take hours to reach the mountains would only take minutes, the beauty of having the TARDIS, and it afforded them enough time to solve this burning mystery, since the lab wouldn't suspect anything wrong, yet.
"What if they capture me?" Alyson worried about the people in the lab getting their wishes, but Paul comforted her as he said that he and Taylor would never let that happen.
She has the right to know what they want with her and if they refuse, well, Alyson knows the rest.
This time, they'll be sure to prevent the same thing that happened with the men in black.
Appearing somewhere deep within the mountains, the TARDIS hid among the unmarked containers as the door opens, the three walked out into the bitter cold, the light a sickly colour, and the silence deafening.
There's no one walking among the containers except them, this was a storage area, and clearly, they don't expect anyone to come from here often, that they're able to walk among the containers freely, their eyes watchful of movement and cameras.
Going towards a container, Taylor's emerald eyes see faint warning labels on the side, before quickly moving away as she wandered with the two while trying to get their bearings in the storage area.
Given the secrecy, Paul suspected that there were hidden openings where the containers were transported in from, probably from the opposite side of the mountains.
"I don't understand, how could this be here, and no one know about it?" Alyson questioned the probability of the public not becoming suspicious with trucks seemingly disappearing and reappearing.
Harkening back to his childhood, Paul educated Alyson about the secret military bases that dotted the world over, hidden in plain sight, so that no one would know they were there unless they went out of their way looking for it.
The same can be said about the lab that kidnapped Alyson, it used something innocuous like the mountains as its base, and the bonus, the mountains being protected, would make it improbable for someone to accidentally stumble upon it.
Should that happen, well, it would be foolish to dispose of them, as it would cause a search, so Paul believed they worked under the guise of a military base.
Easy to intimidate someone if they think they're talking to military officers.
And even if they say something afterwards, the lab knows the military wouldn't confirm or deny.
"Won't that make them curious?" Taylor brings up as she joined his side in the lift.
If the military hears how a person is captured by what they claimed were military officers, even if the military denied it, they would still seek answers.
They wouldn't take kindly to impersonators, either, or while Paul confirmed that anyone caught acting like military officials would result in dire consequences for most people, he also stated that it was also in the military's interest making sure anything with potential stays under their umbrella.
Eying him, Alyson sums, "So… they know about the lab?"
"Potentially. My grandfather always said that it's common for most people working in the military not to know what the other branches are doing at a given time. They're known for their secrets, not fond of sharing them with each other, most of all," Paul explained to her while the lift pushed them up to one of the floors.
Upon arriving, Paul stepped out first, his angel eyes slowly moved as he counted the cameras on every corner, the TARDIS helped tamper with them, thus allowing the trio to move along the sterile corridor.
It smelled strongly of cleaning solutions that it made the trio cover their noses and mouths while making their way around the sterile corridors, everything quiet, and nobody walking among the corridors.
No soldiers patrolling, either.
"Do you remember where you escaped from?" Paul turns his head as he asks Alyson where she came out from when escaping the lab.
Rubbing the side of her head as she concentrated her thoughts, Alyson struggled before telling him that she couldn't remember, that all she wanted was to escape, and didn't pay any attention to her surroundings until she smelled fresh air.
Understandable, but Paul hoped that she would remember anything that would be useful for them as they maneuvered around the corridors while watching for any soldiers or scientists.
Taylor stopped near one of the locked doors, when Paul and Alyson joined her, she swore to them she heard something moving around behind.
Upon opening it, Paul moved ahead as the women followed behind, his angel eyes moved around what looked like a cell block.
Cold and sterile like the corridors outside, they walked through the cell block.
Taylor stops near one of the cells as she saw a figure huddled in the corner.
"Hello?" Taylor called out to it.
Standing beside her, Paul watches as the figure turned its head towards Taylor, before standing up and shuffling towards the bars.
Alyson clutched Taylor's forearm as she sees what initially looked like an ape but looked and walked like a man wearing a science coat.
"Who are you?" Alyson heard the ape speak to them.
Eying the ape, Paul answers he is the Doctor and he wanted answers regarding what was going on in the lab.
Scoffing at him, the ape bitterly answers, "You and everyone else. I tried warning them, but they were too boneheaded to listen!"
He stops when he notices Alyson and there's a disheartened look on his face as the ape pointed at her.
"This one, right here, is why I tried warning them!" decried the ape as he bitterly shook his head.
When asked, the ape gave his name, Arliss, he was one of the researchers for a project where they were testing methods in creating super soldiers.
Genome sequencing and editing DNA strands to try and create humans that were stronger, more intelligent, capable of doing things that didn't require conscience.
Moreover, they aged quicker than normal humans, thus it would take less time to put boots on the ground, get then antiquated with combat within weeks of gestation to birth.
There were attempts at simply creating adult super soldiers, but they kept running into problems, that their experiments would age too quickly or their heightened intelligence wouldn't catch up quick enough for them to be useful in combat.
Akin to infant minds in adult bodies.
"When I came here, they told me it was to cure cancer, I had no idea they would go this far!" Arliss bitterly told the three he was initially assigned to the lab in hopes of creating the long-waited cure for cancer, but it was only after six months Arliss learnt the lab's true intentions.
By then, Arliss wasn't able to escape the lab, they'd already arrested and imprisoned him since they knew what would happen if people learnt the truth.
As part of the security ensuring this never came to pass, Arliss was experimented on, hence his appearance as an ape.
Pointing at Alyson, Arliss explains that she was part of the experiment.
"They gloated as they told me how they created the perfect soldier, Eve, they called it," Arliss tells Paul.
