Standing in awe as Arliss revealed how the lab created a super soldier after suffering from multiple failures, he went on to describe how they wanted to study their success story, produce more like Eve, but she managed to escape from the lab shortly before they could do it.
With her now a grown adult woman, she is now at the late stages before fully progressing into a super soldier of the lab's dreams.
Seeing Alyson standing there, Arliss questioned why she came back after tasting the freedom she was selfishly denied, and Alyson insisted that she wanted to keep the lab from hurting her parents.
"Parents?" Arliss was taken aback when hearing how Alyson had been adopted by a childless couple, only for him to frown as he looked at her.
He weakly gestured as he asked Alyson if she knew where she "came" from and watched as Alyson thoughtfully pondered before answering that she knew nothing of her "birth."
Pacing around the cell block, Arliss told her, "You were tank bred. They spliced you from different favorable DNA strands they carefully sourced. To tell the truth, if you did a blood test, you wouldn't get a conclusive answer just whom you're related."
Not that it was advisable with hidden flags prepped to set off when Alyson did get her blood tested.
Hearing the answer, Alyson chewed on her bottom lip as she took in what Alriss told her, how she was tank bred, she didn't have a natural mother or father, not even a genetic tree, and she asks, "What'll happen to me?"
Having already grown to an adult woman within a short span of time, she worried what will befall her, Arliss frowns as he stopped in his spot, before warning her that because she escaped before the lab could study her properly, they may not know for certain if she's the super soldier of their dreams.
Curious, Paul inquiries, "And if she's not?"
The frown still on his face, Arliss warns of the probability that Alyson develops issues resulting from the malformed DNA that wasn't caught by the lab.
Psychosis, paranoia, name it, if there's defects in the mutated genome, Alyson will soon succumb to them.
Which shouldn't be shocking, considering how the lab fused foreign DNA together to get better results.
... Though, there is another possibility.
"What possibility is that?" Taylor eyes him with curiosity in her emerald eyes as she sees Arliss turning his head towards her with a knowing look in his walnut eyes.
He couldn't tell her anything more, he instead urges them to hurry away from the holding cells, the scientists might get suspicious and send guards to check on him.
Before they fled, Arliss gave them an idea where to start looking for more answers.
Watching them run out of the door, Arliss hung his head low in shame as he gone over to his spot in the corner of the cell.
What started with him wanting to cure cancer had turned into him into someone straight out of a science fiction, now he's forced to reckon with the truth of what the lab done.
And the price they will pay dearly for the knowledge that bestowed them the ability to create Alyson.
Following Arliss's directions, the three hurried through the corridors, as they did, they started noticing the scientists emerging from different areas of the lab, that they ducked multiple times into disused storage rooms while working their way into the deeper parts of the lab.
Stopping in another room, Alyson started smelling something familiar to her, something that resonated negative memories in her, as she warned the couple that the woman who claimed that she was her biological mother was somewhere nearby.
"I don't know how…" Alyson murmured as she couldn't understand how she smelled the woman despite being nowhere near her, beginning to panic that she's not as perfect as the lab thought her, before Taylor encouraged her not to panic.
Smiling, Taylor assures her that it will be fine, her and Paul won't let anything happen.
"She may be our only shot in learning what else they been doing down here," Paul mentioned the possibility of learning more about the lab through the woman who lied about being Alyson's biological mother.
If she was a researcher, then it'd be as easy as forcing her into turning over everything she did under the lab to them, and if there were any more like Alyson that she may not be aware of existing.
Knowing well not to believe it'll be easy; Paul was certain that they could find their answers.
Antsy, Alyson fidgeted while worrying what'll happen to her, only for Paul to urge her not to lose focus, if there was anything wrong, then this researcher is her best bet.
Avoiding the guards that were taken to their positions, having arrived from the deeper parts, Paul opted to use a trick that his grandfather used with limited success.
With his pocket watch, Paul shrouded him and the women in a non-detectable force field, allowing them to easily bypass areas since the guards can't see them, provided they're careful not to accidentally get too close.
Following her heightened sense of smell, Alyson tracked the woman who claimed her from the house, the smell unmistakable, and it led her towards a closed door.
In her mind, she's desperate to find the answers that torment her so, prevent these people from hurting her parents to spite her, and stop them from creating someone else like her, if they hadn't already.
Paul tried to stop her, but she'd already forced her way into the room, where she sees steel tables lined with everything scientific apparatus known to man, machines stacked to the ceiling, prattling noises coming from them as they attentively monitored everything going on in the room.
Slowly, her eyes moved around as Paul and Taylor moved their way through the open doorway, curiosity in their eyes as they didn't see anyone in the lab.
Taking a deep breath, Alyson focused on the woman's scent, she was here, but briefly, and she left somewhere else.
She stayed in this area for a while, going up to the computers and looking at the screens, Alyson could see that she was working on charting the genomes that produced Alyson.
"Let's get on, before someone gets curious!" Paul whispers to Alyson as he urged her to follow them out before someone gets curious as to why the door opened on its own.
Nodding, Alyson frowns as she follows him and Taylor.
There's a sudden change in the atmosphere that Alyson instantly homed in as she nervously looked around with Paul and Taylor looking at her with confusion.
Turning her head towards them, Alyson gestures as she asked, "Do you not feel that?"
Shaking his head, Paul answered that he didn't feel whatever it is Alyson's feeling, neither did Taylor.
Her eyes darting, Alyson swore that something had changed, and she started smelling blood.
"Blood?" Taylor's shocked as Alyson confirmed that she could smell blood coming from somewhere, fresh, and human.
Warily, Paul asks where it's coming from, and Alyson pointed down the corridor where the scientists would be coming from.
Her emerald eyes searching, Taylor noticed the guards had all disappeared, too.
"What could've happened… we were in that room for only a minute!" Taylor sucked air through her teeth as she glanced at Paul for guidance as he struggled to understand the change himself.
He suggested that because of Alyson's escape that as protocols in place where everyone who knew of the project was getting… erased as he colourfully worded it, causing worry as Alyson panicked that it'll make them want to kill her parents even more.
She stopped when she smelled something else amid the faint traces of blood that caught her attention.
Human… but not… odd…
"What's wrong?" Paul gestured before Alyson answered that there's someone else here with them.
