It's 2025 - f*ck it. Elite Force Season 2. After rewatching the franchise, this is - in my semi-expert opinion - where I believe the showrunners were going with Elite Force following 'The Attack'. 1 Chapter is 1 episode, 20-minute sitcom style, just as the style of the show; written in screenplay format. Ep 20 is up now: Mr Davenport is stressed - and why is there a cat in the lab?

15. Episode 15: Rising Star

ELITE FORCE: Season 2 Episode 15

"Rising Star"

River and Raven's threat is rising against the Elite Force, and in a final effort to track down their hiding place, Bree and Chase find themselves encountering more than one old enemy. Meanwhile, Skylar has been keeping a Mighty secret from Kaz and Oliver, and when a certain Hospital Chief of Staff makes an appearance, they realise he may just hold the key.

FADE IN.

SCENE ONE.
INT. MISSION COMMAND - DAY.
(Clad in mission suits, BREE, CHASE, SKYLAR, KAZ and OLIVER enter through the tunnels. DOUGLAS, ROMAN and RIKER are waiting for them inside; DOUGLAS is typing at the cyberdesk, and ROMAN and RIKER look at the team with hopeful expressions. All five look worn out: SKYLAR stretches, OLIVER sighs. CHASE runs a hand through his hair, and BREE leans against the cyberdesk. KAZ, who has a piece of paper in his hand, scrunches it up and tosses it across the room).

KAZ
What a waste. Complete waste of time!

DOUGLAS
Well, you all seem in good spirits. (Mumbling bitterly) How was your day, Douglas? Get up to much? Oh, no, just waited for five moody teenagers to come home with two supervillains. Regular Wednesday.

RIKER
Did you find anything?

BREE
(Rolling her eyes, sarcastic)
Yeah, this is what we look like when we've won.

KAZ
That was the last location on Rodissius' list. Skylar and Bree's entire time travel mission was completely wasted - we've got nothing.

SKYLAR
(Forcing a serious expression)
Yup. Wasted. Because nothing else of note happened when we time travelled at all.

RIKER
You mean, you have nothing?

CHASE
I'm sorry, you two. We checked everywhere on that list, and there were no signs that River and Raven had been at any of them.

OLIVER
Well, there were signs of life at Location Number 8, but that just turned out to be a little family of mice. Though I'm sure they would happily take you into their family in return for a piece of cheese! You know, if we can't find your siblings.

(BREE elbows OLIVER).

BREE
What he means is: this just means we have to look in another direction. Maybe it's worth speaking to Rodissius himself, he might know where they've gone.

(SKYLAR's phone dings with a text message).

DOUGLAS
(Skeptical)
Is that a good idea, going to visit Mighty Max?

CHASE
Do you have a better idea?

(SKYLAR's phone dings twice in quick succession).

KAZ
Maybe use the time machine to go back to Mighty Med again? Horace might have known something about Rodissius - he used to be a superhero; they used to be friends.

(SKYLAR's phone dings again).

KAZ
(Irritated)
And could you please put that on silent? All I heard the whole mission was "ding" "ding" "ding" - who's texting you? All your friends are in the same room as you!

SKYLAR
(Suspiciously)
No one. (Pause) But, like… hypothetically, how beneficial would it be if we could ask Horace?

OLIVER
What use is a hypothetical? He's gone.

(SKYLAR's phone dings).

SKYLAR
(Tightly)
Uh-huh.

CHASE
(Narrowing his eyes)
Skylar… who's texting you?

SKYLAR
Just my… (lying) Mom.

BREE
(Folding her arms, pacing forwards)
Really? A non-sentient ball of larva not only has a phone plan, but also opposable thumbs with enough dexterity to send a text?

SKYLAR
(Smiling fakely)
That's Caldera! Woo, I'm an alien freak, you know me! Anyway!

(SKYLAR's phone suddenly begins to buzz, someone clearly calling her. There's a moment of silence, everyone looking down at SKYLAR's phone for a second as she tightly grabs it to her chest).

SKYLAR
My phone's broken?

BREE
Get her!

(All at once, SKYLAR superspeeds to the hyperlift, but BREE superspeeds too. She blocks her exit, and OLIVER and KAZ grab an arm each).

SKYLAR
(Yelling)
Guys, come on! We can work something out!

(CHASE uses his magnetism app to pull SKYLAR's phone towards his hand).

ROMAN
This feels uncalled for…

DOUGLAS
Just fade into the background or they'll come for you too.

(The call drops, and the buzzing ends).

SKYLAR
See! Look now you made me miss a call.

CHASE
(Shocked, having seen the caller ID, and turning the phone around to face them).
Yeah… a call from Horace Diaz.

(There is a beat of stunned silence).

KAZ
(Mouth open)
Horace?

OLIVER
(Shocked)
Diaz?!

BREE
(Connecting the dots)
Wait… when we time travelled, did you… do what I think you did?

CHASE
You have something you want to tell us, Skylar?

(SKYLAR pauses, looking between her four friends, and then back to ROMAN and RIKER).

SKYLAR
(Smiling sweetly)
Nope. Bye!

(SKYLAR superspeeds to CHASE, grabs her phone back, and superspeeds away into the tunnels. Once she has gone, KAZ and OLIVER, completely stunned and desperate for answers, look at each other in a stoic beat, and then all of a sudden their limbs flail, and they chase after SKYLAR, disappearing after her into the tunnels).

DOUGLAS
(To ROMAN and RIKER)
Told you - better to just not get involved.

ROLL TITLES.

SCENE TWO.
INT. MIGHTY-MAX HIGH SECURITY PRISON - HALLWAY - DAY.
(BREE and CHASE pace down the hall, still in their mission suits. Both have determined expressions).

CHASE
I don't like this. Are you sure leaving Roman and Riker in Mission Command was a good idea?

BREE
Chase, you're overthinking it. You're the one who got us to trust them in the first place! And, besides, Douglas is there with them, so they're not going to try anything.

CHASE
(Sighing)
You're right… Let's just get some information from Rodissius, and go home. Straight in, straight out.

BREE
(Rolling her eyes)
Wow, you've had your abilities back five seconds and you're already so bossy.

CHASE
(Glaring)
It runs in the family. (BREE and CHASE reach a stop outside an interrogation room).

BREE
(Focused)
Alright, the guards said we have fifteen minutes to try and get some answers.

(CHASE puts his hand on the handle, stopping BREE from walking straight in there).

CHASE
Are you sure you're good? I mean, this is Rodissius. We haven't seen him since - you know - Puppet Bree.

BREE
(Folding her arms stubbornly)
I'm fine. Are you? This is your first time facing a villain since you got your abilities back.

CHASE
I mean it, Bree. You've been acting weird these last couple weeks.

BREE
(Scoffs)
What? No I haven't.

CHASE
You have. You've been all distant and on your phone all the time, if I didn't know any better I'd say you were seeing someone, but I haven't seen you leave the house without Skylar or Kaz in weeks.

(BREE quickly recovers).

BREE
Well, I'm glad you know better. Now stop distracting me and come on.

(BREE heads into the room; CHASE rolls his eyes).

CHASE
(Muttering)
And I'm the bossy one.

(CHASE follows her inside).

SCENE THREE
EXT. PENTHOUSE - KITCHEN - DAY.
(OLIVER and KAZ, mid-chase after SKYLAR, all run into the kitchen. SKYLAR dodges KAZ and OLIVER around the kitchen island, faking left, faking right. But then KAZ lunges and steals her phone. He pulls the top off the blender and, with a manic look in his eye, drops the phone in. He motions to press the "on" button. SKYLAR looks desperate and holds her hand out in panic. She yells before he can press anything).

SKYLAR
Okay, okay! I'll tell you! Stop the madness!

KAZ
This isn't a joke, Skylar. Horace is dead, how is he calling you?

SKYLAR
(Reluctantly)
He's… not dead. That's how.

OLIVER & KAZ
What?!

SKYLAR
(Hushed)
Keep your voices down!

OLIVER
Skylar! You can't just drop a huge truth-bomb on us and expect us not to react! How in the world is - (SKYLAR superspeeds to OLIVER and holds her hand clamped over his mouth; he attempts to finish speaking) mmfce mmlive?

SKYLAR
(Urgently, quiet)
Be quiet! River and Raven could be listening, we have no idea where they are, and if they find out that Horace and Alan made it out of Mighty Med -

OLIVER
(Muffled still, but snapping)
Mmlan?!

(SKYLAR lets go of OLIVER's mouth, and looks desperately at OLIVER and KAZ. She snatches her phone back, and keeps her voice low).

SKYLAR
Yes. When Bree and I went back in time, Horace caught us. He'd figured it out, that Bree and I were from a different time, and I never told him what was going to happen, just like we agreed, in order to protect the timeline! But I… I might have given him the date of the explosion, and told him and Alan to get out. I never told him why but, clearly, he trusted me enough to listen.

KAZ
Where are they now?

SKYLAR
They're in hiding. He texts me off a burner phone, calls me sometimes, but he gets really excited whenever he leaves a house because Centium City has a lot of bridges and -

SKYLAR, KAZ & OLIVER
(Reciting)
Horace loves bridges.

OLIVER
Well… that's incredible, Skylar! Why didn't you tell us?

SKYLAR
I wanted to, but I've been waiting for something to happen. You know, like, one of those "drastic consequences of time travel" things that Chase was talking about? Besides, I was worried that saying it out loud wouldn't be safe. Horace was, like, the number one target for Rodissius' revenge, and with us working so closely with Roman and Riker, I thought the secret was safer with just me.

OLIVER
(Beginning to understand)
So that's why you couldn't admit to it in Mission Command.

SKYLAR
Roman and Riker were right there! And they're still downstairs so just, be quiet, okay! We might trust them now, and sure, we have them round for dinner, but when it comes to Horace, to Mighty Med - even though it was River and Raven who actually blew it up - we just don't know what they're capable of. We have to keep it a secret. Okay?

(KAZ and OLIVER look at each other, and then back at SKYLAR, nodding).

KAZ
I want to see him.

SKYLAR
(Sighing)
Guys, I don't know -

OLIVER
Kaz is right, Skylar. Like we said downstairs, Horace has treated Rodissius and his family a hundred times, and he's a superhero! He knows shapeshifters. If there's any way we can get some information, then Horace is it.

KAZ
Yeah, and besides, if you said there's no consequences, how much can it hurt to visit him?

(SKYLAR hesitates, thinking. She wants to see HORACE as well, clearly, but her fear, and her loyalty, is restricting her. But OLIVER and KAZ make puppy-eyes; OLIVER holds his hands together, praying, and KAZ shamelessly guilt-trips by making the shape of a heart with his fingers, pouting his lip).

SKYLAR
Alright! But just… grab on, okay? I'm not saying where he is out loud, I'll just superspeed us straight there.

(KAZ grabs SKYLAR's shoulder, and OLIVER wraps his hands around SKYLAR's arm. In a determined blur, SKYLAR superspeeds the trio out of the penthouse altogether, leaving the room empty).

SCENE FOUR.
INT. MIGHTY-MAX HIGH SECURITY PRISON - HALLWAY - DAY.
(CHASE and BREE exit the interrogation room and into the hallway again, looking worse-for-wear and tired after their conversation with RODISSIUS. CHASE sighs).

BREE
What a waste of an afternoon.

CHASE
What did you expect? He's not exactly the Elite Force's number one fan.

BREE
Well, he was, like, obsessed with me. I was hoping he'd just, you know, give me the answer if I asked nicely and (she tosses her hair behind her shoulder) flashed my charming smile.

CHASE
(Deadpan)
And when were you going to get one of those?

(BREE glares).

BREE
Ha-ha. Whatever, genius. I'll go sign us out.

(BREE turns and exits down the corridor, leaving CHASE alone for a moment. He checks his smart-watch, but is only left to his own devices for a few seconds, when he starts to hear a voice).

WOMAN'S VOICE
Chase?

(CHASE turns his head down a darker corridor of Mighty Max, where he is sure he has misheard something).

WOMAN'S VOICE
Chase…

CHASE
(Confused)
Bree?

(CHASE wanders further down the corridor, following the sound. He rounds a corner, and finds himself face-to-face with a cell. Lasers shine as bars of the cell, separating it from the hallway, and when CHASE stands, he realises who is inside. He pales, and freezes, staring, as out of the shadows, standing right up to the bars, is REECE. She is dressed in a prison jumpsuit, and she smiles).

REECE
Hi, Chase…

CHASE
(Shocked)
Reece?

REECE
Don't look so surprised to see me - you put me here. (Speaking sweetly) How are you?

CHASE
(Tightly)
Fine.

REECE
I need your help. Chase, I need you to know, it wasn't my fault that I did what I did. I never wanted to hurt you, my father made me.

CHASE
He did?

REECE
Come on, why would I betray someone like you? Tell me you believe me. If you help me, get me out of here… (She sends him a warm, genuine smile) We can be together, Chase.

CHASE
(Blinks, stunned)
Uh…

(Suddenly BREE runs in, skidding to a halt beside CHASE. She glares at REECE and grabs CHASE's arm. CHASE, however, just looks at REECE).

BREE
(Firmly)
Chase, let's go.

REECE
Please, Chase, I need you to believe me.

BREE
(Angrily glaring at her)
What you need is to rot in prison. (She tugs CHASE's arm, firmer this time) Chase - now.

(BREE turns to go with CHASE, but REECE calls after them).

REECE
Just think about it, okay? I'll be waiting for you.

BREE
(Calling over her shoulder)
Why don't you bother someone who doesn't mind catching something, you evil pig.

(BREE and CHASE round a corner, out of sight of REECE, where BREE finally lets go of CHASE's arm. She looks him up and down).

BREE
You okay?

CHASE
(Quietly)
Yeah… thanks.

BREE
Forget her, Chase.

(CHASE nods, absently, clearly deep at thought as BREE pauses, wanting to say something, but not prying. She lightly taps his arm).

BREE
Come on, we've got work to do. You're not going to let me boss you around all day, are you?

CHASE
(Smirks)
In your dreams, Bree.

BREE
Good. Let's get out of here.

(CHASE grabs BREE's arm and she superspeeds them both home, a protective arm around his shoulder).

SCENE FIVE.
INT. APARTMENT BUILDING - HALLWAY - DAY.
(SKYLAR, OLIVER and KAZ come to a stop from their superspeed, and stand outside the front door to an apartment. OLIVER grimaces like he's swallowed something foul).

OLIVER
Ah, I think I swallowed a fly.

SKYLAR
Well I told you to keep your mouth shut. You're such a back-seat superspeeder.

(SKYLAR knocks on the front door).

SKYLAR
Remember, guys, Horace has been hiding here for months. He hasn't been able to do the one thing he loves - healing people - since the explosion, so more than likely, he's going to be a little depressed.

(Suddenly the door swings swiftly open, and who is stood in the doorway but HORACE DIAZ himself. He has grown out his beard, but stands with a grin. He is wearing an apron with bright flowers plastered all over it, and is holding a mixing bowl of batter).

HORACE
(Grinning)
Skylar! And Kaz and Oliver! What a nice surprise, I've never been happier!

(SKYLAR, OLIVER and KAZ stare at him for a moment, in stunned silence, their mouths a little agape at the opposite to what they were expecting).

SKYLAR
Or, he's… possessed, I guess.

SCENE SIX.
INT. HORACE'S APARTMENT - LIVING ROOM - DAY.
(HORACE's apartment is bright, cheerful, with a spacious living room and a kitchenette off to the side. A corridor spans into the rest of the house, but it's light and airy, and fresh flowers add spots of colour in various vases dotted around the room. OLIVER, SKYLAR and KAZ stand shocked in the centre, looking around with surprise. HORACE, wearing colourful oven gloves, brings out a tray of cookies from the oven and places them on the counter).

HORACE
Please, sit down! Make yourself at home.

OLIVER
It's really good to see you, Horace! You have no idea.

HORACE
Oh, yes, you three are, um… (he clicks his fingers, trying to remember something) what is it you three are doing now, again?

KAZ
(Slowly, obviously)
Part of the Elite Force? Avenging Mighty Med? You know… the hospital you used to run?

HORACE
(Remembering joyfully)
Oh, yes, that's right! I knew it was something to do with wearing blue. (Chuckles) For some reason I had it in my head you guys were sailors. (He offers a plate) Cookie?

(KAZ gleefully takes one).

SKYLAR
Horace, we need to ask you something. It's about Rodissius.

HORACE
Oh, now, now, no shop talk before I've offered you a drink. This really is excellent timing, I've just squeezed a fresh batch of oranges.

(HORACE goes to the fridge as SKYLAR and OLIVER give each other a skeptical look. KAZ munches on his cookie).

OLIVER
Is this… what you do all day? Bake cookies, juice oranges?

HORACE
(Scoffing as though he has missed something obvious)
No! (Pause, opens the freezer) I also make sorbet!

SKYLAR
Horace, it's really dangerous for us to be here. We really need -

HORACE
(Holds up a finger)
Ah, ah, ah! What you need is to try the cookies.

KAZ
(Mouthful)
He's right, Skylar, there's macadamia nuts in these!

SKYLAR
But -

(HORACE shoves a cookie into SKYLAR's mouth, stopping her from talking. She is surprised, recoiling for a second).

SKYLAR
(Blinking in surprise)
Oh wow, these are good!

HORACE
Told you.

OLIVER
(Urgently)
Look, Horace, we've been fighting this family of shapeshifters, and we're -

HORACE
(Sighs)
Whatever it is, I'm sure you'll figure it out.

OLIVER
Huh?

HORACE
(Smiling casually, chuckling lightly)
I don't deal with that anymore. Mighty Med was destroyed. The hospital that was supposed to heal superheroes was the one thing that killed them! (He laughs) So, I figured, what's the point? My whole career was for nothing! So I quit.

(A stunned pause; KAZ taps SKYLAR's shoulder).

KAZ
Hey, there's that consequence you were talking about.

SKYLAR
(Hissing)
I'm well aware!

HORACE
(Happily)
Juice anyone?

SCENE SEVEN.
INT. MISSION COMMAND - DAY.
(The hyperlift flashes, and the doors open. BREE and CHASE pace out into Mission Command, looking around for people. But when they find that it's completely empty, they look a little surprised).

BREE
Where is everyone?

CHASE
I don't know - Roman and Riker must have gone home.

(CHASE taps the cyberdesk and pulls up a hologram map of the world, suspended between BREE and CHASE over the cyberdesk. Various "X"s have been marked off all across continents, and the siblings stare at it, deep in thought).

CHASE
Everywhere on the list that you and Skylar got from Mighty Med has come up with nothing, so we're looking for a needle in a haystack. All we know is that they're -

BREE
(Hands on her hips)
Do you want to talk about Reece whilst it's just us?

CHASE
(Firmly)
No, I do not. I'm fine. What I was going to say is that Rodissius told us nothing, so -

BREE
Seriously, Chase, we can take a break if you need to.

CHASE
Okay, either you stop interrupting me whilst I strategise, or I use my override app to get you to tell me whatever that secret is you're hiding. Got it?

(BREE rolls her eyes).

BREE
Wow… (under her breath) Someone's turning into Mr Davenport…

CHASE
I heard that.

BREE
(Smiling sweetly)
You were meant to.

CHASE
(Tiredly)
Can we please just focus?

BREE
Stop freaking out, you're overthinking it.

CHASE
I'm not freaking out. The whole point is that they could be anywhere!

BREE
Come on, they're just hiding from their brothers! They want to fight Roman and Riker, so they'll be somewhere obvious. Like when Adam used to wait right next to his pranks so he could watch you suffer.

CHASE
It's not that simple, Bree! They're thinking strategically, they're training their younger siblings and they're waiting to be attacked, so they'll need to be somewhere hidden, with equipment for treating injuries, maybe, and that no one would even want to go near.

BREE
But we've checked all their known hide-outs.

CHASE
Then they'll be somewhere else that their family knows really well. These are supervillains, not Adam. It's not like they're just hiding out at the scene of the crime.

(As soon as the words leave his mouth, BREE and CHASE look at each other, realisation forming).

CHASE
Unless… They are at the scene of the crime.

BREE
But isn't that way too obvious? It's -

CHASE
I know, but with the -

BREE
(Realising)
Oh, of course, and with the -

CHASE
Definitely!

(A silence as they think, and CHASE zooms in on Pensylvannia on the hologram map. BREE nods, determined).

CHASE & BREE
Mighty Med.

(With newfound purpose, they grab their gear and head out towards the tunnels).

SCENE EIGHT.
INT. HORACE'S APARTMENT - DAY.
(SKYLAR, KAZ and OLIVER are sitting in a cosy row on HORACE's small couch, all with matching teacups. They're staring at HORACE as he hums to himself and moves around the kitchen, all three of them with unsure, slightly fearful expressions).

KAZ
(Through his teeth, quietly)
So… he's officially snapped.

SKYLAR
(Nodding)
No sudden movements.

OLIVER
(Hushed)
Okay, so what do we do? We need to get him to talk about Rodissius, otherwise we don't have a chance of getting the upper hand over River and Raven.

(HORACE turns around to smile at them, and SKYLAR, KAZ and OLIVER make a big show of grinning and waving. HORACE turns his back to them again and all three slump. KAZ gets his phone out and focuses on that rather than SKYLAR, OLIVER or HORACE).

SKYLAR
We play along. We can coax it out of him eventually. He's probably just lonely and is glad of the company.

OLIVER
We're in the middle of a shapeshifting war! We don't have time for "company". (He notices KAZ on his phone). Kaz, are you seriously texting at a time like this?

KAZ
Just updating Bree on the situation - she and Chase had no luck at Mighty Max this morning.

OLIVER
(Sighs)
Great, so the Muffin Man over here is our only hope.

SKYLAR
To be fair… he's bakes cookies, not muffins.

OLIVER
These are the consequences of your time-travel actions, Skylar! Just… (he gestures blindly) fix this!

(SKYLAR sighs, then stands).

SKYLAR
Okay… fine, fine. I'll try. (She clears her throat). Hey, Horace?

HORACE
Yes, Skylar my dear?

SKYLAR
Did you know… I got my powers back? Isn't that great?

HORACE
(Happily)
I knew you could do it. You just needed to not be around me, because I ruin everyone and everything, and now look at you, thriving.

(HORACE turns to the fridge and OLIVER and KAZ make a frantic "vamp" gesture to SKYLAR; she tries again, stepping forwards with new gusto).

SKYLAR
What? No! Horace, you're very useful. In fact, you could prove to us that you're useful and tell us -

HORACE
(Knowingly)
Ah, tell you my hummus recipe?

KAZ
Or your defeating shapeshifters recipe?

(OLIVER elbows KAZ).

HORACE
(Sighs)
You know what, you're right. I shouldn't be here.

KAZ
I am? (Grinning) Well, would you look at that.

HORACE
I should be out enjoying the sunshine, not talking about silly, unnecessary things like superheroes or saving the world. The Duncan Bridge just opened a new footpath, we should all go!

(HORACE, with a fresh sigh, bustles happily towards the door. OLIVER and SKYLAR glare at KAZ).

KAZ
(Defeated)
Yeah, okay, I spoke too soon.

SCENE NINE.
INT. MIGHTY MED RUINS - DAY.
(The previously lively Mighty Med Hospital is now a state of destroyed ruin. Walls stand half-built, black burn marks streak across everything, and piles of rubble of broken desks, beds, screens, and other junk all lay smashed. It's relatively dark, and quiet footsteps are the only sound. BREE and CHASE walk across rubble, BREE's arms are out for balance as she tiptoes across an unstable surface and lands on the ground. She extends a hand and helps CHASE down, who lands next to her).

CHASE
I can't believe this is Mighty Med.

BREE
Yeah. I'm glad Skylar, Kaz and Oliver aren't here to see this. (BREE uses her flashlight hands, panning the beam over rubble).

CHASE
Be careful, the structure is probably unstable. Stay close, so I can use my forcefield again if -

BREE
(Crossed arms)
How about you be careful and you stay close, and then I can superspeed us out?

CHASE
(Through gritted teeth)
I told you, I'm fine.

BREE
Yeah, you were the picture of normal talking to your ex through the bars of her prison cell earlier.

CHASE
Funny.

BREE
I wasn't trying to be. You've not had your abilities back that long, Chase -

CHASE
Enough already with the abilities! I'm getting really sick of you treating me like I'm some rookie -

(BREE stiffens, having heard something).

BREE
Wait, Chase. Shush.

CHASE
No! I won't shush, Bree. This entire mission, you've been condescending, rude, secretive -

BREE
No, Chase, shut up!

CHASE
Seriously, it's like you don't even trust me -

BREE
(Urgently)
I'm serious, be quiet! I heard something.

(CHASE quietens, and they both listen out. There's silence for a moment, and then a banging sound, repetitive, hollow, like someone hitting metal).

BREE
There! Did you hear that?

CHASE
(Nods)
I'll use my bionic hearing.

(CHASE tucks his hair behind his ear, his bionic hearing clicking to life as BREE and CHASE stand perfectly still. The sound tunnels, directly towards a pile of rubble to their right. CHASE snaps to turn towards it).

CHASE
(Pointing)
There!

(BREE runs to the pile of rubble he's pointing to, closely followed by CHASE.

BREE
Okay, help me dig.

(CHASE stands up straight, politely, with a false smile)

CHASE
(Bitterly)
Or maybe I can't be trusted to dig? I have only had my abilities back a short while.

BREE
I heard that, Chase.

CHASE
(Mocking her earlier words)
You were meant to.

(BREE glares at him, but instead of fighting back, just sighs, pushing away the last of debris. Her hands hit something, and there's a thud).

BREE
Wait, I've got something.

(BREE brushes dirt away to find a handle in the ground. She makes more space, and it reveals itself to be a whole trapdoor hatch. BREE's jaw sinks open).

BREE
An underground hatch? Did we know this was here?

CHASE
It isn't on any of the blueprints in my internal hard-drive. (CHASE tugs at the handle, and it opens easily, revealing darkness below). And that opened far too easily for something that's been untouched for months.

(BREE and CHASE look at each other, and then stare apprehensively into the darkness below).

BREE
Where do you think it leads?

CHASE
Only one way to find out. (Sarcastically) If, of course, the Great Bree Davenport thinks her measly brother is up for the challenge.

BREE
(Glaring)
You want to know what I think, Chasey?

CHASE
"Chasey"? You take that back -

BREE
I'll take back your face -

(They square up to each other, but before anything can happen, a sound, louder now, comes from inside the hatch. It's the same, metallic banging. The sound stops BREE and CHASE's fight in its track, and both snap their heads to face the tunnel).

BREE
(Sighing, worried)
We have to go down there, don't we?

CHASE
(Resigned)
Well, historically, we do love a good basement.

MIDWAY BREAK

SCENE TEN.
INT. MIGHTY MED - UNDERGROUND TUNNEL - DAY.
(The tunnels are dark and narrow, and eerily silent. BREE and CHASE pace slowly through them, their eyes darting everywhere. BREE has a palm open, shining a beam of purple light ahead of them using her flashlight hands ability. Suddenly, the metallic banging starts up again).

CHASE
This way!

BREE
There is only one way. That's the way we're already going!

(CHASE ignores her, and BREE and CHASE, upping their pace, run further into the darkness).

SCENE ELEVEN.
INT. MIGHTY MED - UNDERGROUND TUNNEL - DAY.
(BREE and CHASE come to a dead end, stopping against a metal door, wedged into the stonework of the tunnel. BREE pans her flashlight hands around).

BREE
(Breathless)
It doesn't go any further.

(The metallic banging is louder, clearly the other side of the door. CHASE presses a finger to his temple and his bionic eye whirs to life; he scans over the door).

CHASE
It's locked, but I could probably pick it with my molecular kinesis.

(The banging stops, and a voice calls out).

VOICE (O/S)
Hello? Is someone there?

(BREE and CHASE look at each other, panicked).

VOICE (O/S)
What's that purple light?

(CHASE darts his hand to cover BREE's flashlight hand; she pulls away, disgusted).

BREE
(Hissing)
Ew! Are you holding my hand?

CHASE
I'm covering your flashlights, you moron!

VOICE (O/S)
Who's there?

(Footsteps begin to pace loudly, closer towards the door. BREE and CHASE stumble back in panic).

BREE
Someone's coming!

CHASE
(Urgently)
Bree, get behind me.

BREE
(Scoffs)
Why, because girls can't fight as well as guys?

CHASE
No! Because I have a forcefield and you don't.

BREE
Oh… (BREE steps back) yeah, okay, proceed.

(We focus on the door, as it swings open, and comes to a flat stop against the wall, and a tall, menacing looking man in his mid-twenties stalks out into the tunnel. He is dressed in all black, has a scar on his face, and is followed by a woman who looks strikingly similar, with straight, black hair, and a matching snarl - RIVER and RAVEN).

RIVER
Who's there? Show yourself!

(RIVER and RAVEN look around, but by the time we see the rest of the tunnels, they are completely empty. BREE and CHASE are completely gone, and RIVER turns to his sister).

RIVER
There was someone here, Raven - we should go check the hatch.

RAVEN
Roman and Riker?

RIVER
(Looks around)
Not yet. (He beckons RAVEN, and they walk off together, away down the tunnels). This way.

RAVEN
(Muttering)
There's only one way! It's the same direction we were going in.

(The door, which was wide open and against the wall, now swings slowly shut again. CHASE is holding into the door hooks, hanging off it by his hands as the door closes. BREE steps out from the corner, disabling her invisibility app. BREE and CHASE meet where RIVER and RAVEN had stood seconds before).

BREE
That was close.

CHASE
(Breathing)
Way close.

(A pause, and they look off after RIVER and RAVEN with serious focus, neither saying anything. Then CHASE snaps upright with a smile, gesturing beyond the door).

CHASE
(Casually)
Creepy room?

BREE
(Enthusiastic)
Creepy room!

(BREE and CHASE continue on exploring further into the tunnels).

SCENE TWELVE.
EXT. CENTIUM CITY - BRIDGE OVER THE RIVER - DAY.
(SKYLAR, KAZ, and OLIVER look bored, as they stand next to HORACE at the edge of the Duncan Bridge, overlooking the river. HORACE is in his element, leaning on the railing, watching out with glee).

HORACE
What a time to be alive! Right, guys?

(SKYLAR, KAZ and OLIVER all look at each other, having a silent argument, elbowing and pushing each other to be the one to say something. Eventually, SKYLAR and KAZ gang up on OLIVER and push him so harshly forwards, he collides into HORACE. OLIVER stumbles, glaring at SKYLAR and KAZ before turning back to HORACE).

OLIVER
Okay, Horace, look. I know you're struggling not being at Mighty Med, and you're feeling guilty, and I know things have been hard since… everything.

HORACE
That's not a very happy way to start a conversation, Oliver.

OLIVER
No, but it's the truth. Plus, since your whole wedding day disaster…

HORACE
Ah, yes, (traumatised) the centre-pieces were entirely the wrong colour.

OLIVER
(Obviously)
And my mother turned into a supervillian, and made you use up your superpowers to save her life, then ultimately dumped you.

HORACE
(Sighs)
Yeah, that sucked too.

KAZ
What Oliver is trying to say - without bringing up all your failures, which frankly is just poor form - is that we need you. Rodissius' children are building a force so evil, we've been warned by other supervillains, and we have no idea what to do.

HORACE
Rodissius' children?

SKYLAR
Yeah. Originally we thought Roman and Riker were the worst of it, but turns out River and Raven are so much worse.

HORACE
Well, are they using the Tridecagram? As long as they haven't completed that, you're safe.

(SKYLAR, KAZ and OLIVER all look at each other, confused).

SKYLAR
What's a Tridecagram?

SCENE THIRTEEN.
INT. MIGHTY MED - UNDERGROUND TUNNELS - CAVERN - DAY.
(The room beyond the door is a tall cavern, stone walls rising up in a dome above them. BREE and CHASE's steps echo through the space, BREE using her flashlight hand to pan a beam of light through the space).

BREE
Woah… so what was that banging sound? The room's empty?

(CHASE spots a hammer on the ground, on the opposite side of room. It's lying on the ground, next to a metal sheet that has been bolted into a ground).

CHASE
Look - there.

(BREE looks, but then tries to step forwards to get a closer look. Her foot hits the ground, and the dirt underneath her boot lights up gold).

BREE
(Yelling, jumping back)
Ah! What is that?

(The gold fades to nothing as soon as BREE lifts her foot up again, but it leaves a faded line in the dirt, that CHASE realises, if he follows the direction, it continues. He crouches like a detective, running his finger along the ground, and as he follows it with his gaze, it spans the area of the whole room).

CHASE
Look at the whole floor, the whole picture. It's one shape.

(CHASE and BREE see, now with the light of BREE's flashlight hands, that the entire floor has the shape of a large star. It has way more points than a regular star, and CHASE counts them, each point reaching a different part of the wall).

CHASE
Thirteen points.

BREE
For thirteen kids?

CHASE
Interesting fact, do you know what a thirteen-point star is called?

BREE
A "my-brother-will-be-single-forever-elogram"?

CHASE
(Defensively)
Well, I don't see anyone lining up to date you either, Bree.

BREE
(Distractingly)
Mmm-hmm. So, what's a thirteen-point star called then, Chase?

CHASE
A tridecagram. (He grabs BREE's wrist and points her flashlight hand at the closest point to them) Look - every point has one of those metal sheets at it, it's like a… label of some kind.

(BREE stoops to take a closer look, noticing that at the edge of each of the thirteen points of the tridecogram, sure enough, there is a metal sheet. She reads the one closest to her to see what it says, and it's one word: "Roman").

BREE
This one says Roman.

(CHASE points to the next one along).

CHASE
That one's Riker.

(BREE scans her gaze across the room).

BREE
They all have one: River, Raven, Reece… Raine, Rosie. Even Remy.

(BREE and CHASE look at each other, concern etching into their faces).

CHASE
What are they planning?

SCENE FOURTEEN.
INT. PENTHOUSE - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT.
(OLIVER, KAZ and BREE are sitting on the sofa, chatting, as SKYLAR enters the penthouse through the front door, with pizza boxes stacked in her arms).

SKYLAR
I got pizza!

KAZ
Yay, I'm starving!

OLIVER
Someone going to get Chase?

BREE
I got it.

BREE (V/O)
Pineapple, barnyard, kangaroo. Pizza's here, deadweight.

(SKYLAR sets the pizzas down on the counter, sitting on the couch next to OLIVER and biting into a slice as their hands intertwine. KAZ sees their hands and looks at BREE, who smiles back, nudging him).

(The hyperlift doors slide open, and CHASE enters, looking concerned).

CHASE
Have any of you seen Douglas?

BREE
Not since this morning, why?

CHASE
He's not answering his phone, that's all. I don't know, after today, the Tridecagram, I just have a funny feeling.

SKYLAR
His battery probably died, or he rewired it to make a robot, you know what he's like.

CHASE
(Nodding, sighing)
Unfortunately, I do.

(He grabs a slice of pizza from the box and plops down next to BREE).

SKYLAR
I'm sorry I didn't tell everyone about Horace right away. I just wanted to protect him, but we're a team, and I should have been honest. I'm sorry.

BREE
It's okay, we all make mistakes. And I don't think anyone blames you.

OLIVER
(Shrugs)
Besides, you're incapable of making mistakes, Skylar, we've been over this - you're perfect.

(SKYLAR chuckles).

KAZ
(Nostalgically)
It was good to see him today, though, wasn't it?

SKYLAR
Why? To get his cookie recipe?

OLIVER
(Laughing)
Honestly, Kaz…

(OLIVER, KAZ and SKYLAR descend into light-hearted teasing, and whilst they're occupied, BREE nudges CHASE to grab his attention, speaking quietly).

BREE
And, hey, since we're talking "sorry"s… I didn't mean to make it seem like I don't trust you in the field.

CHASE
I get why, but really, I am fine, Bree.

BREE
I know. It's just… this whole thing with the Tridecagram, and Rodissius. It's gearing up to something big, we can all feel it, and I'm just… I know you're capable, Chase, and I do trust you. I just worry about you.

(There's a pause, where CHASE's face softens at BREE's confession, and he looks like he's about to reciprocate. She smiles apologetically, and he opens his mouth as though to speak. But then he slumps lazily back on the couch, taking a huge bite of pizza).

CHASE
Lame.

(BREE rolls her eyes but chuckles, nudging him with a little more force as he laughs, successfully having annoyed his sister).

SCENE FIFTEEN.
INT. MIGHTY MED - UNDERGROUND TUNNELS - CAVERN - NIGHT.
(Everything is quiet. Inside the cavern, eleven figures stand at attention, each standing just off from a point of the Tridecagram that spans the size of the floor. RIVER and RAVEN stand at neighbouring points, and they turn to their left where, at two more points of the circle, stand none other than the familiar faces of ROMAN and RIKER. RIVER smirks).

RIVER
Welcome back to our gathering of siblings.

ROMAN
It's good to be back.

(ROMAN steps forwards onto his point, and spreading out from his feet, just like before, a line of gold travels into the centre. RIKER does the same, and his point lights up gold too).

RIKER
The Elite Force fully believe we're on their side, trying to track you down. They've let their guards down, let us into their home, their command centre. You're right, leaving the superheroes alone was just the distraction they needed to strike when they least expect it.

RIVER
Excellent… (RIVER steps onto his point, and the golden light travels through the Tridecagram).

RAVEN
Father will be proud indeed. (RAVEN follows the motion; now four points line up).

RIVER
(To the room)
Step forwards, all of you.

(The remaining seven siblings step forwards onto their points, all of them obediently quiet and dressed in black, spanning in ages from late teens to five years old. Golden light now travels from eleven out of thirteen points to the middle, and only two remain in darkness).

RIVER
And now for our special guest, and I believe she's right on time.

(The door to the cavern creaks open again, and a familiar face struts in, revealed to be a smugly grinning REECE. Now out of her prison jumpsuit, she is comfortable in her black clothes, and she looks over her siblings).

REECE
Brothers, sisters… it's good to be back.

RAVEN
They took the bait?

REECE
Just as I suspected.

ROMAN
Once the Elite Force left us with their snivelling little uncle, it wasn't that difficult for us to force one of Mr Davenport's cyber-cloaks onto him. Mighty Max doesn't even know Reece is gone.

REECE
And the best part is, I'm so untrustworthy, such an evil villain, that no one will believe him when Douglas cries for help from a jail cell. He'll spend the rest of his sorry life disguised as me behind bars, and I… (She steps onto her own point, golden light branching to the middle) am a free woman.

RIVER
The Tridecagram is useless without thirteen of us, and Raine is nowhere to be found.

REECE
Oh, leave them. Raine can be replaced. We can come up with other arrangements.

RAVEN
How? We need a thirteenth family member, or the Tridecagram cannot complete, and we won't have the power we need.

ROMAN
And we've already tried forcing the Davenport girl on our side, the Elite Force will expect that.

REECE
(Tutting)
Ye of little faith, my family… I'll get us a thirteenth. (She grins) I'm back.

SCENE SIXTEEN.
INT. MIGHTY MAX PRISON - REECE'S CELL - NIGHT.
("REECE" - or, the person enforceably disguised as REECE - is dishevelled, her hair a mess, crouched by the bars of her cell in a prison jumpsuit. Her hands are bound together so she cannot reach her neck, where the small, silver patch of a cybercloak is hidden under her hair).

DOUGLAS (DISGUISED AS REECE)
(Screaming)
Help! Someone help me! Get me out of here! You've got the wrong guy! Help me!

(But no one comes…).
