Rise of the Reaper part 17:The Wretched & The Lost part 2

After four hours of looking for the right area, they arrive at the location at about four in the afternoon. Jada looked at the sheet, then at their surroundings. "Well, this looks like the place guys," Jada said, "just stay close and don't do anything stupid." As they look around, they see people with weird-looking chest plates walking around. "I wonder what those chest plates are used for?" Reaper said, nudging Tulos on his arm as he pointed at the people inconspicuously. Tulos looked in the direction where Reaper was pointing and shrugged. "Beats me dude," Tulos said as he stood by Jada. Then, an older-looking man approached the three. "Welcome, young ones to the Slums," the man said, looking at them curiously, "I see that your buff friend is admiring the spectres that the combatants are adorning. Would you three be interested in this comradery?" Jada pinched the bridge of her nose. "I'm sorry, but who the fuck are you?" she said, a little annoyed. "Ah yes, I forgot to introduce myself," the man said with a chuckle, "I am known by the name of Overkill." Jada was standing there, her eyes wide. "Oh, so you're Overkill eh?" Jada said, "Someone we met in a bar pointed us in your direction...oh, and yes we're interested in this "comradery" you speak of." Overkill started gazing up and down the three people standing before him. "Are you three guardians?" he asked the trio. Jada, Reaper, and Tulos all shook their heads no. "We're just civilians looking for some action and something competitive if you can offer it to us in all honesty," Tulos said with Reaper nodding in agreement. Overkill just laughed a hearty laugh. "Looking for something on a competitive level eh?" he said, "well, you three came to the right place indeed." Reaper smirked. "Yeah, that appears to be the case," Jada said, "so, when can we be hooked up with the spectors that you give such high praise to?" Overkill chuckled a little. "Good things come to those who wait, my dear," Overkill said to Jada, "why don't you and your two male friends look around the place and I'll see to it that you each get hooked up with spectres, how about that?" Overkill reached out his hand, wanting Jada to shake his hand. "Can you give us a minute?" Jada said, holding up a finger before turning around to Reaper and Tulos. Overkill's hand returned to his side. "Of course my dear," he said, "take your time." Jada, Reaper, and Tulos huddled together so Overkill couldn't hear them and spoke softly. "This may actually work out for us," Jada said. "I honestly don't know Jada," Reaper said, "it sounds like he's wanting us to take his offer, like this sounds like a trap nonetheless." Tulos nodded in agreement. "He does have a valid point Jada," Tulos said, "but at the end of it all, you're the one leading this mission so whatever you decide to do, I'm pretty sure we'll follow you." Jada sighed. "Look, regardless of what choice we make, we watch each other's back, no matter what," she said, "besides I'm pretty sure you two will more than likely be fighting with me providing overwatch." That made Reaper have a confused look on his face. "Wait, why are you on Overwatch?" Reaper asked Jada. Jada glared at Reaper. "Well Reaper, would you be able to conjure a bow made of Void light?" She asked him with a hint of venom in her voice, to which Reaper remained quiet, "I thought so. Anyways, you and Tulos are better suited to deal damage to our opponents, right? It would only seem fit for me to provide support." Reaper hung his head in defeat. "You're absolutely right Jada," he said sadly, "only thing is, knowing me I'd probably go into the fight, guns blazing and throwing caution to the wind. Although you are right about Tulos and myself being able to take some hits and deal some damage in return, there's no doubt about that." Tulos nodded in agreement. "Yeah I totally agree with your assessment Reaper," Tulos said, "but we still gotta get armor and weapons since we came here practically naked." Jada scoffed at that comment. "Well we came here without weapons or armor to basically blend in with our surroundings," Jada commented, "besides we don't want to keep Overkill waiting for long so we need to come to a decision. Do we take his deal?" Tulos nodded sternly. Reaper sighed in defeat. "We might as well take his offer," Reaper said, "no use arguing about it." Jada smiled with glee. "Glad we're all in agreement," she said with a smile before turning around to face Overkill again, extending her hand, "We're in Overkill." They shook hands. "Just so you guys know, you can bet on matches," Overkill said, "it makes the matches more intense, if you want to imply that." Reaper hums in amusement. "So you're saying we could make a killin' off of the matches if we bet on the correct team, am I correct in assuming that?" Reaper inquired. Overkill strokes his goatee as he thinks about Reaper's words. "Yes, if you put it that way you can indeed "make a killin'" off of the matches," Overkill said as he used air quotes. Jada and Tulos both facepalmed at that comment. "Is all you think about is glimmer Reaper?" Jada asked Reaper as he shrugged. "What? I can't help it," Reaper said in protest, "I want to make money, not waste it!" Overkill laughed at that comment. "If you want to make bets, I'll send you to our bookkeeper who is in charge of the bets here in the Slums," Overkill said, gesturing to the trio to follow him. Overkill leads the trio to a man that Jada recognized almost immediately. "Oh, hello again Killswitch," Jada said as she smiled and winked at Killswitch, making him laugh. "Well hello again my dear," Killswitch said, happy to see Jada specifically. Jada blushes slightly while Reaper and Tulos groan in disgust, "I would assume you all want to make a bet?" The three give a confused look. "How would we go around making these bets?" Reaper asks Killswitch curiously. Killswitch laughs. "Oh, my friends, in order to make these bets, you have to know the rules of this gig first," Killswitch says to the three, "First things first, there are two teams of three: two in the arena itself while the third is providing overwatch and support. Second, the person providing overwatch has three lifeline abilities, which can be used to strengthen, speed up, heal, whatever is needed at the time. Also, the two in the arena get only ONE life, after that the person who's left on the opposing team MUST enter the match, otherwise the spectre will stop your addition, any natural ability you have is enhanced tenfold, but it will tire you out if you; think of it like a battery metaphorically speaking, the more energy you use, the more tired you get. Are you guys following me so far?" The trio nods intensely. "Good, let's keep it that way," Killswitch said, "now I will show you the teams that are competing in a few minutes and you can bet accordingly." Killswitch then whips out a book with a very thick spine and flips open to a blank page. "Now, we have a battle of the sexes coming up," Killswitch says with glee as he reveals the teams which consists of three men on one side and three women on the other, "and the odds are in favor of the men, but we have seen upsets here in the dome-" "Hold the phone," Jada said, shaking her head, "the dome?" Killswitch laughs. "Yes, the dome," he said, "it's the name of the arena because it's ironically shaped like a dome. Now, do we have any bets?" Jada laughed lightly. "Can you give us a minute Killswitch?" she asked him, to which he nodded; they huddled up once again, "okay guys, this'll give us a chance to see the spectres in action, so I say let's make a bet and see if we can earn something and if not we move on, yeah?" Tulos and Reaper nod in agreement. The trio break the huddle as Jada turns around to face Killswitch. "We'll put fifteen hundred glimmer on the men and the same amount on the women," Jada said as she handed him three thousand glimmer, "so regardless of who wins, we still profit." Killswitch erupts in laughter at Jada's statement regarding the bet. "A very interesting bet indeed," Killswitch said before waving them off, "now, move along there are more people that I need to be taking bets from. Oh, and enjoy the show!" The trio make their way to the dome, expecting to see one hell of a fight but who knows the carnage that will ensue inside, for a slaughter awaits those who participate.
