[To JohnDoes: The fact I even gave Bardock a power level number in a DBS timeframe a few chapters back means he's definitely in trouble right now XD Poor guy. Another thing I wanna touch on is that yeah, some parts will flow almost the same as canon, but others, I assure you, will greatly deviate. Such is the nature of interfering with a timeline! And thank you, I will try my best to make it all knit together nicely, and make it believable most of all. Though I will reiterate that this is still one of my first fanfics ever!]
Chapter 12: Welcome to Earth
The trio of Saiyans finally left the ship, the kids whooping for joy as they stepped foot on dry orange soil. Bardock and the kids were immediately spotted by Tien, Chiaotzu, Yamcha, Krillin and Videl, who sensed Bardock's unknown yet somewhat familiar high ki signature, as he'd forgotten to keep it in check after only recently learning how to control it thanks to the kids. Speaking of…
"Goten! Trunks!" Krillin cheered.
Tien studied the new visitor. 'Another Saiyan in that armour like Vegeta's… If he's anything like him, then he'll learn the hard way that we won't let him harm the Earth. That hair, though… it's just like Goku's… That can't mean he's related to him, can it?'
Tien confronted the stranger sternly and asked, "Who are you? Where have the kids been?"
Goten responded enthusiastically, "This is Grandpa Bardock! He's my dad's dad! AlsowewereonNewNamekcausetheDragonBallsbroughtustheretofight-"
"Whoa, whoa, slow down, Goten!" Yamcha exclaimed with his arms out forwards.
Krillin yelled disbelievingly, "Did you say he's Goku's father?!"
Yamcha spoke up again, "Can you tell us a little slower?"
Goten nodded and smiled. "Oh, sure thing! So, the other Dragon Balls on New Namek brought me and Trunks there to help Grandpa fight this alien guy called Cooler! And guess what! He was Frieza's brother!" Everyone was slack-jawed in shock at the info. Krillin exclaimed a bit fearfully, "Frieza had a brother?! Where was he all this time?!"
Bardock finally spoke up, "From what one of his subordinates told us, Cooler's remaining forces are extremely far away from our side of the universe. He didn't seek revenge, apparently because he didn't care about his family. Seems he just liked ruling his portion of the galaxy."
Chiaotzu noticed Bardock had a Saiyan tail, and asked, "Um, Bardock? You're a Saiyan, soooo… you aren't interested in… taking over the planet or anything, right?"
Bardock gave Chiaotzu an unimpressed look. "I suppose you think I'm like that dunderhead Nappa who came here? Well look, pal, I'm not here to attack your planet. I don't want to be similar in my actions to that bastard Frieza anymore. Besides, I know what's been going on here. The kids told me pretty much everything. I suppose that even if I wanted to attack your planet, I wouldn't have a chance in hell."
Videl spoke up with an incredulous tone, "Wait - You know everything?" She turned to the kids. "You trust him, you two?"
Trunks responded with his hands behind his head, "Yeah, he's cool. He wanted to meet his family here and stuff." Trunks realised something. "Oh wait! You're technically part of Bardock's family, aren't you? Since you're married to Gohan!"
Bardock focused on her. "You're his wife? Your name's Vedal Saturn, right?"
Videl responded with a fiery tone, "It's Videl Satan! Technically Videl Son (or Son Videl) now. Don't forget it, alright?" she huffed.
Bardock thought to himself, 'And that's why he chose her, of course. She's feisty, alright.' He asked, "So where's Gohan now?"
Krillin explained, "Ah, well, he should be on New Namek right now, actually…"
The three travellers exclaimed in surprise, "What?!"
Krillin elaborated, "Well, you see, when we couldn't find Trunks and Goten, we wanted to use the Namekian Dragon Balls since it was the fastest way to bring them back home. The Earth ones aren't ready for another few mon- Wait, how much do you know…?" Krillin was nervous about how much info on the Dragon Balls he should be spilling.
Bardock responded, "Everything, remember? Besides, you just said way too much for me to not understand." Krillin looked away sheepishly.
"So… when will Gohan be back? Did anyone go with him?" Trunks asked.
"Oh yeah, Piccolo and your mom went there too, Trunks. Don't worry, they'll be back in a couple weeks!" Krillin explained.
Tien and Chiaotzu looked at everyone for a moment before Tien declared, "Well, as long as you don't cause any kind of unwanted trouble, then you're welcome here Bardock. I think Chiaotzu and I should head back to our dojo. We'll see you all around. And by the way, Bardock, my name is Tien Shinhan."
Everyone except Bardock waved as they flew off.
Yamcha still regarded the tail with a wince. "Hey, uh, you know that Great Ape thing Saiyans can do? Uh… can you, like, never do it on Earth at all, please?"
Bardock responded with a slight eyebrow raise, "Guess you guys have seen a fair share of its power, haven't you? Hmph, rest assured, I won't be turning into a Great Ape here any time soon. I have a better transformation than that one now, one I can actually control well."
Yamcha sighed in relief, but then he and the others realised what that implied.
"Wait!" Krillin exclaimed, "By something better, you mean… you can turn into a Super Saiyan?!"
Bardock responded with a smirk, "Yeah. I discovered it while on Planet Plant fighting Chilled, who was one of Frieza's race. Basically, one of the reasons why I'm here is because there are other Super Saiyans I can fight - and I wanna fight 'em all. Which reminds me," He looked at the kids. "We didn't fight each other on the ship, so I'd like to go a few rounds with you two, now we're here."
Trunks looked surprised, then confident. "Oh! You wanna fight right now? Alright! I'll take you on!"
Goten piped up, "I wanna fight too!"
Videl sighed, "Looks like fighting really is in every Saiyan's blood… Don't you want to meet the others? Can't you fight later?"
Bardock answered, "Lady, I've been stuck on that ship of mine for a couple weeks. When a Saiyan needs to properly stretch his legs, he really needs to. And don't interfere, unless you're interested in fighting against Super Saiyans."
And so he turned to the kids. The three of them smirked in anticipation of a fun bout. "Come on, brats, I'm not gonna stand here all day!" Bardock yelled.
Nobody called them brats and got away with it… except Vegeta!
Trunks and Goten waited for Bardock to attack first, going on the defensive, to gauge his fighting skill. It became evident to the kids as the fight progressed that Bardock didn't have as many techniques as they did. However, he had a knack for catching them off-guard with his rough and unpredictable fighting style. Bardock's flashy spin-kicks sure were something - They were gonna steal those.
Despite Bardock's efforts, Trunks taunted him, as the eldest Saiyan struggled to defend against the power of not only their combined attacks, but their separate attacks as well. "Hey, c'mon! Where's that punch supposed to be going? Hup! Aaand, that kick was way too slow!"
Bardock looked visibly ticked off by the fighting critique the kid was spouting during a fight he was trying so hard to win. 'This sassy child…'
"Got some mouth on you, kid. Get it from your father?" he shot back as he kneed Trunks straight in the belly.
"Oof! Nice hit… Guess I gotta be more careful around you!"
"You can do that by not wasting your breath. It's well placed tactics that win battles, not just strength," Bardock advised, and Bardock's fight against the two continued.
Bardock later on turned Super Saiyan, and the fight became twice as fast and intense. At one point, Goten decked Bardock in the cheek, with Bardock's aura flashing gold with a hint of blue once more, as his head recoiled from the power of the blow. During this time, he got a small flash of something in his mind…
—
A figure with blood red eyes and blue skin stood on a cliff. Then there was a comment from a gruff-sounding person.
"I can't… turn Super Saiyan…"
—
Bardock snapped out of it and reengaged the two instantly. Everyone had failed to spot the blue flash when Goten had hit him.
Bardock eventually conceded to the two kids who had turned Super Saiyan just like him. They were much more skilled in the form thanks to their extensive training from their teachers, which was one of the many reasons why Bardock had lost the bout.
"Huff… not bad…" Bardock mumbled.
Trunks complimented him with a chuckle, "Hey, you're not bad yourself Bardock, considering that's only the third time you've battled someone as a Super Saiyan!"
Goten added, "Yeah! That was really cool, Grandpa! Thanks for the match. Hey, I'm hungry. Can we go eat now, please?"
The onlookers Yamcha, Krillin and Videl sweatdropped at the kid's sudden desire to eat.
Videl said, "Why not, you guys? How about I let Chichi know you're coming? She'll be delighted to see you both again, and… to meet you, Bardock, I'm sure! She and I can cook up some tasty stuff for us all! Oh, Krillin, Yamcha, would you guys like to join us?"
Krillin and Yamcha exchanged glances, and Yamcha replied, "Well, uh, I'm afraid I was… in the middle of something important! So I won't be able to come with you guys, sorry! I'll catch up with you guys again sometime! See ya!" …And off he flew.
Krillin looked apprehensive. "I, um, need to get back to Marron and Eighteen… You know, tell them whose ki that was and all that! I'll see you all some other time!"
He waved and also flew off, leaving the four by themselves in the rocky wasteland.
"Alright then," Videl muttered. She turned to Bardock. "Well, it'll be more food for us! You coming?"
Bardock responded, inclining his head her way, "Sure, let's see Kakarot's wife - "Chichi", right? I'm interested to see what kind of food Earth's got."
"I'm sure you won't be disappointed!" Videl replied with a beaming face.
And so the four of them flew towards the Son household. Along the way, Goten gave a little info about his family and where he lived.
"We have a farm where we grow vegetables! Dad works in the fields when he isn't training. Mom looks after the house and cooks all our food, and it's always delicious!" He made constant gestures with his hands in excitement. "And we go fishing by the river and the fish we catch are huge! My brother lives with Videl in their mansion in Satan City but he also has a house right next to us that he lives in sometimes!"
Bardock's expression was neutral, but nevertheless, he was intrigued by the kind of life his family lived here. This was the life his powerhouse of a son had lived ever since he was sent here, and it had allowed him to grow as strong as the gods themselves. It was worth investigating.
Trunks said, "Yeah, yeah, your place is pretty nice, Goten, but where I live, we have everything we need! Like a massive kitchen, lots of rooms, the gravity chamber for me and Dad, and lots of cool tech too!"
Goten pouted. "Hmmm, can I try that gravity chamber again sometime, Trunks?"
Trunks responded, "Since Dad's away, I guess you can. Oh, we're here!"
The four descended outside a quaint little abode surrounded by lush grass and trees.
"Hmph. Quiet here," Bardock commented.
"Yep. It's certainly a peaceful place. Well, time for us to meet her, I suppose," Videl said.
