Chapter 12: The Ultimate Sacrifice

Things weren't any better when the next morning arrived. Bob sat at the table, staring at the empty plate in front of him. Helen prepared breakfast, but honestly none of them was really hungry. They had other things in mind. They waited for Dash to join them for some time before Helen decided to go check on him. She slowly knocked on the door and opened it, seeing Dash crying in Violet's bed with his eyes closed.

"Dash… Honey…" she said before sitting down next to him, pulling him in for a hug.

"Everything will be okay, Dash. I'm sure we will rescue her."

She held her son close to her to make sure he can calm down. But for Dash… it wasn't the same. His mother has always been very good in making him feel better, but she was nowhere close to Violet. He just didn't know it before they went into the motel. He also didn't know that them bonding as siblings would make their relationship skyrocket the way it did. Since he was feeling down, Violet was always by his side, comforting him, giving him everything he needed. And the way she did it was impressive. She knew exactly how to help her brother even though he never told her the reason why he was feeling horrible.

"Mom, I miss Violet." Dash sobbed into his mother's shoulder.

"I know, Dash. We all do…" She answered with sad eyes before continuing

"Come eat a bite, maybe it will help you feel a little better."

Dash looked at her with teary eyes and shook his head.

"No. I want to stay here. I'm not hungry."

With a small sigh, Helen gave her son a kiss on his forehead and went out of the room. Before closing the door, she looked back at him with a worrying face.

"If you need anything, come to me or your father, okay? We're always here for you." She assured.

Dash lay down on his sister's bed again.

"I know mom. Thanks. I just want Violet back…"

Back in the dining area, Helen sat down next to Bob and sighed.

"Dash was crying the whole night. He even slept in Violet's bed. He misses her so much…"

Saying this made her tear up. As she tried to hold them back she added

"And I miss her too. We must find a way to bring her back as fast as we can! She's all alone!"

Bob tried to comfort her and held her close to himself. Then, an idea came to him.

"Honey. We can't defeat Uriel with our powers. But maybe he is willing to give Violet back if we can offer him something he wants. Everything is better than leaving Violet with him."

Helen nodded before they discussed what to do.

Dash was still crying. He managed to stop for a few seconds every now and then, but every time he thought of Violet, the tears started falling again. These were the worst days of his life. The whole day was full of crying and hurting memories. He fell asleep several times, but the second he woke up, reality made itself known and hurt him all over again. When he finally found the strength to get out of bed, he grabbed his laptop and watched some videos to be able to silence his thoughts for a little. But whatever he watched, he couldn't stop thinking about the events of last night. He still tried, but he didn't find the strength to get out of the room. He moved his laptop over to Violet's bed, as he wanted to somewhat feel close to her, as silly as it may sound. After a few minutes, he paused the video he was currently watching and sighed.

"Hey Violet… I hope you're well. And I hope it's okay that I stay in your bed." He started crying again. "I miss you so much. Every hug, every word, every smile. I never told you how much it all means to me until recently. To have you as a sister is the biggest luck I could have ever asked for. And I'm beyond grateful for that. You're the best. I love you so much." He whispered with his eyes closed.

After a few more seconds, he wiped some tears away before continuing

"But even if we never went into this motel and things would have stayed as they were between us before… I would love you the absolute same. You leave a hole inside me that cannot be filled with anything else. And it's the place at the center of my heart… I still remember us fighting a lot. And since we got here, I have laughed a lot when thinking about our fights. I wouldn't mind fighting if you were back. I just want you here again. By my side."

He then closed his eyes for a minute before hitting the play button again, making the video continue.

It was almost dark outside when Bob and Helen got into their super suits. They wanted to go find Uriel. Before leaving, they knocked on their children's door and opened it shortly after, only to see Dash still lying inside Violet's bed, watching videos on his laptop. Helen walked over to him and sat down on the bed.

"Dash… have you been in bed the whole day?"

He simply nodded at her.

"Why are you in your super suits?" He then asked.

"We're going to see if we can find a way to track Uriel." Bob answered.

Dash was looking at his father before his gaze fell onto the bed, he was lying in before asking

"Do you think we can safe Violet?"

Helen then gave him a hug.

"We will safe her. But promise me one thing, Dash. Stay here. We don't want him to get you, too. We will bring Violet back, honey."

Dash was way too weak to go out. Helen knew this. That's one reason why she asked him to stay in the motel. Dash was agreeing without hesitation. He didn't feel like going out anyway. He would find a way into another dimension for Violet if he needed to, but Uriel already showed them he was stronger. As long as Dash didn't know how to defeat him, he couldn't rescue her. Helen gave him another kiss on the forehead and Bob hugged him before they left and Dash continued watching videos and crying from time to time.

The two supers walked out of the motel and down the street.

"Where do we go?" Helen asked as they started running.

"To our old home." Bob answered her.

It didn't take them long to reach the ruins that were left of their old house. It was a calm night. Nothing was making any sounds, except for some cars driving by, the people inside waving at them as they were well known to the public. Mr Incredible then went over to the ruins while looking around, seemingly looking for some clues. Elastigirl joined him. When they didn't find anything after a while, The two heroes became a little worried. How would they be able to find Uriel? Was there even a way to find him? An idea came to Bob's mind as he screamed into the dark of the night

"Uriel! We want to talk to you! Come out!"

Nothing. The next few seconds went by in a hurry, even though they felt like hours for the two heroes. The frustration grew stronger and stronger.

"He's not here…" Bob whispered loud enough for his wife to hear him as his sad gaze was fixed on the ground.

"Honey…" Helen said, walking over to him when suddenly, she noticed fog around them.

"He's here!"

The fog flew to the street and faded away, making Uriel appear on the other side of the street, looking at them.

"Uriel!" Mr. Incredible was stepping forward, stopping on the sidewalk, keeping the street between him and the villain. The anger in his face quickly changed to sadness.

"Please tell me our daughter is alright." He then begged in a defeated tone.

Through his mask, Uriel was looking at the desperate hero for a few seconds.

"Your daughter is alright. And it will stay like that." He answered.

This is when Helen walked over to her husband and looked at the enemy across the street.

"Please let Violet go, Uriel. Take me instead. But please… let her go." She offered.

Bob faced his wife with sad eyes.

"No honey…"

He turned to Uriel again.

"Please take me instead." He begged.

Uriel sighed before answering them.

"The energy your daughter has is incredible. I'm afraid if I let her go, I will need both of you."

The two heroes looked at each other before nodding and hugging.

"You can have us. But please. Promise to let Violet go." Helen asked as a few tears started rolling down her cheeks.

"You have my word." Uriel promised.

Suddenly, fog appeared in the middle of the street, revealing Violet inside it. She was looking around, spotting the ruins of her old home and her parents standing in front of it. Then, the fog that covered her faded away from her, changing into two separate clouds that flew toward her parents, covering them. Violet quickly realized what was happening, as she ran to them.

"MOM! DAD!" She screamed.

"You're safe, Vi!" Bob said as he smiled at his daughter.

"Go home and help Dash, honey. He needs you." Helen told her.

They then disappeared into the darkness, leaving Violet alone on the sidewalk. As she turned around, she caught sight of Uriel, already making his way back into the fog.

"Uriel!" She shouted at him. "Bring them back immediately!"

With a deep sigh, Uriel turned around again and looked at Violet.

"I gave my word to let you go. Your parents made the ultimate sacrifice for you. Don't waste it. Your brother needs you more than anything in the world." He explained calmly.

Violet who was furious and full of hatred, suddenly wore a confused look.

"What do you mean?"

Uriel lifted his arm and an illusion appeared in front of her. It was… their room in the motel. Dash was lying down in her bed, crying uncontrollably.

"Your brother is suffering. Your parents sacrificed themselves for you. Make something out of it, Violet." He said before turning around and walking into the fog. Just before he disappeared, he continued

"If you want to fight to get your parents back, I expect you and your brother here tomorrow night. I will be waiting."

With this he disappeared into the darkness.

"Dash!" Violet's eyes widened before running off in the direction of the motel.

"I'm on my way!"
